(After "The Change in the Game')

A/N: I posted chapter 11 last Thursday, but Fanfiction was acting up and didn't let anyone know about it. Please read that chapter before you read this one.

I don't own Bones.

Oooooooooooooooooo

For whatever reason, Cam noticed that the partners seemed to be friendlier towards each other again and she felt a sense of relief. Whatever issues they seemed to have had with each other seemed to be resolved and she was grateful their team was still intact. Maybe her little talk with Booth had helped but she wasn't about to ask him. The man hated people to meddle in his private life and that was a fact.

Cam wasn't the only one to notice the change. Angela had come by the Lab for a visit, to show off her baby son and she'd found Brennan in one of the examination rooms working on one of the unknown sets of remains. "Sweetie, can I talk to you? . . .um, Jack told me he's noticed that you and Booth seem to be getting along better now. I'm glad. I was beginning to worry about you two. He said you'd been excessively polite to each other since the funeral and he was worried that your partnership was in trouble."

Annoyed, Brennan placed the femur down on the table and turned to face her friend. "I do not understand why Hodgins and Cam thought that Booth and I were having partner issues. We have behaved in a professional manner which is what we're supposed to do."

"Yeah, you guys have your own way of behaving professionally." Angela shook her head. "After Vincent's funeral Jack said you two stopped touching each other and your bickering stopped . . . well, almost . . . Anyway, he said he's noticed lately you're both acting more like your old selves . . . that you still don't argue as much as you used to, but . . . still, it's better than that polite façade you two were giving off."

Confused, Brennan sighed. "When Booth and I became a monogamous couple, we didn't want to have our working partnership damaged by the FBI. Our plan was to act professionally like we always do so that the FBI wouldn't have a reason to break up our partnership. When we started our personal relationship, my contract with the FBI was going to expire in three months and we felt that if we behaved like we normally do, that we could work together until I could add some things into my new contract."

"Honey, I'm glad you're in a monogamous relationship. I really am. You should have told me that by the way, but . . . anyway, you two have not been behaving like you normally do and everyone noticed. It worried everyone. Believe me."

Puzzled, Brennan wanted an explanation. "Why does Hodgins think we weren't behaving normally? Touching not touching? Not bickering? We have touched each other occasionally, but it's not like we're making out over dead bodies . . . Deputy Director Bishop would never approve of that kind of behavior and neither would Booth. Nor I, for that matter. I believe in proper decorum when I am working. That has never changed."

"Honey, you two have been touching each other for years. On the arm, the hand, on the back . . . HR might have considered it inappropriate if Dr. Goodman or Cam had ever complained . . . or you, but no one complained and we know it's a form of communication for you two. It's okay. It's never got out of hand, just quiet gestures. It's sweet . . . really and when you stopped it was after the funeral and Jack thought . . . well, he thought maybe you blamed Booth for Vincent's death." She held up her hand. "No, I know you don't but it looked like you did to Jack."

Not sure what to say, Brennan finally nodded her head. "We were acting professionally to delay everyone from noticing our relationship change . . . Booth is very annoyed and so am I. It would be best if everyone minded their own business and left us alone. What we do and don't do shouldn't matter to anyone but ourselves."

Michael Vincent chose that moment to wake up and cry. Angela grimaced and shook her head. "He probably needs a diaper change. I'm going to go take care of that . . . Sweetie, I'm glad you and Booth have finally got together and I'm relieved you two aren't having issues. Really. I'm happy for you . . . Oh, I won't talk to Jack about it. You two take your time and tell us when you're ready."

"Thank you." Once Angela was gone, Brennan sighed and turned back to the remains she'd been examining. "I do not understand what we did wrong. I really don't."

Sitting in the Founding Fathers, Booth was waiting for his partner to show up for their celebratory drink. Another case was closed and a nice glass of wine to celebrate was in order . . . or maybe some Scotch. He'd decide once Brennan showed up. Checking his watch, he noticed she was running late, but he put it down to her need to finish up a report before she left the Lab.

"Hi, I noticed you're alone . . . I'm alone and I was wondering if you'd like to share a bottle of wine." The woman was petite, attractive, well dressed and exuded confidence.

"Thanks, but I'm waiting for someone." Booth glanced at his watch again and hoped Brennan would show up soon. This was the second time someone had tried to pick him up. He knew he was a good looking guy and he was used to women taking an interest in him, but he was starting to get annoyed. The last thing he needed was Brennan witnessing someone hitting on him.

Not discouraged, Trisha felt that if his date was going to allow him to sit in bars by himself then he was fair game. "How about just one glass of wine while we wait for whoever you're waiting for. It's Friday night and I'd like the company."

"Look . . ." Booth was interrupted by Brennan who had just walked up behind the lady standing next to his table.

"Since I am here, Booth doesn't need your company." Brennan was annoyed and glared at the younger woman.

Feeling a little vulnerable, Trisha decided that the handsome man was too much trouble. "Got it."

Once the stranger was gone, Brennan leaned over, kissed Booth then sat down. "Clearly I should have got here sooner."

Amused, Booth tried not to smile. "Well, it's Friday night and some people can't stand to be alone. I did tell her I was waiting for someone." Waving his hand, one of the servers moved over to their table. "Two glasses of wine . . . Oh, wait . . . one glass of wine, red . . . and Bones? What do you want?"

"I would like a club soda with a twist of lime." Brennan found it very annoying that she could no longer drink alcohol.

The server gone, Booth leaned over and placed his hand over Brennan's hand. "You know we don't have to come here for a celebratory drink. We can get coffee or a milkshake from the diner until you've had your baby."

She didn't want Booth to change their tradition because she was pregnant. "No, you deserve a glass of beer or wine. I can drink a non-alcoholic beverage. I don't want to change what we do just because I'm pregnant."

"Okay, got it."

Unknown to the partners, Daisy was sitting in the booth behind Brennan and Booth and had overheard their conversation while she waited for a friend of hers to show up. Placing her hand over her mouth, she desperately tried to keep from making a noise while the partners talked. Trapped, she glanced around the room and noticed that if she left her booth and walked near the other booths, she could use the back exit and leave the bar without Brennan or Booth seeing her. Once she was outside, she hurried around the building through the alley and stood in front of the entrance waiting for her friend. Excited and afraid, Daisy wasn't sure what she was going to do. She was dying to tell someone about Dr. Brennan, but who could she tell? She didn't want to make Dr. Brennan angry, but hiding a pregnancy was ludicrous. It's not like she could hide her pregnancy. She'd be noticeable fairly soon and then they'd all know so why would it be wrong if she told someone. Maybe someone away from the Lab.

"Yes, that will do . . . I'm going to burst if I don't tell someone." She noticed the odd looks from the couple standing near the entrance and she realized she was talking out loud. Smiling at the couple, Daisy shrugged her shoulders. "Nerves."

Just out of curiosity, Angela checked on the Temperance Brennan fan sites occasionally to see what the fans were saying about her friend. They usually talked about books already released, upcoming books and the cases in the books. They also argued about the relationship between Andy and Kathy which Angela found amusing. Much to her surprise, when she checked them that morning, she found her fans were in an uproar about Brennan and her pregnancy. Some were saying it wasn't true and others were saying it was and they were arguing about it.

"Pregnant?" Puzzled, Angela knew she needed to talk to her friend right away. If this bit of news was true, then Brennan needed to talk to her publicist right away and have her announce it. Of course, if she wasn't pregnant then her publicist needed to stop the rumors.

Her fans were in an uproar and it was only a matter of time before the press started to come calling. "If she is pregnant then how did her fans find out? I smell a rat." Whoever had broken the news was going to be in big trouble if Brennan and Booth found out who it was. "I just need to make sure they know it wasn't me or Jack. We didn't know . . . This had better be true or Brennan is going to be so angry . . . who am I kidding. The shit is about to hit the fan, true or not."
