Finnick saw the situation was going nowhere as Katniss continued to freak out over Peeta so he quickly shoved her out of the way and immediately put his mouth to Peeta's, blowing air into his lungs before starting chest compressions. At first glance Katnisss thought he was going to hurt Peeta and she was quick grabbing her bow and reaching for an arrow from her quiver. Luce's instincts also took over as she raised a dagger at the girl just as quick, ready for any threatening moves.

It was quite the standoff for a minute until Katniss realized what was happening and she threw her bow back down. Luce watched her closely before doing the same and lowering her knife. Katniss gave an apologetic look before hurrying back to Peeta's side.

"Come on Peeta, come on!" Finnick said as he listened to the boys chest before continuing compressions on him, Katniss begging him to wake up. Luce could only watch, fearing the sound of a canon any second to declare his death.

That's when they heard the sharp intake of breath and looked to see him finally breathing again, his chest moving up and down as proof. Luce couldn't help but smile in relief and felt thankful that he was ok. Although she wasn't too friendly with them in the beginning, he had always been nothing but nice to her since the moment he introduced himself to her in the training room.

He had muttered something she couldn't quite hear but figured it must have been some sort of joke as Katniss let out a small laugh before leaning down and kissing him. Luce looked away to give them a private moment, feeling it would be awkward if she were to watch.

Making sure everyone was alright again, they all got to their feet and slowly began to walk once more. Being extra cautious to avoid an accident like that again, Katniss had picked up some rocks and used them to throw alongside them. Marking where the barrier was every few feet as they watched the rocks bounce off the invisible wall.

After an hour or so of traveling she ran out of rocks and decided on a different idea. "Hang on.." She said before walking toward a tree and climbing upward. They all watched her as she disappeared into the top of the tree. During that time Finnick made a quick circle around them to check for any signs of others as Peeta leaned against the tree Katniss had climbed. It didn't take long before Katniss was making her way back down.

"It's a forcefield, a dome. We're at the edge of the arena." She explained running a hand through her hair before giving a look to everyone, "I couldn't find any signs of fresh water."

At the mention of water Luce licked her dry lips and realized how thirsty she had suddenly become. Everyone was silent as they took their own time to think.

Finnick was the first to break the silence, "It's going to get dark soon, we'll be safe with our backs protected. Let's set up camp, take turns sleeping. I can take the first watch."

Luce was quick to nod in agreement but frowned when she saw Katniss smile in a not so friendly way, "Not a chance." she said.

"Honey, that thing I did back there for Peeta.." Finnick began explaining, "It was called saving his life. If I wanted to kill either of you I would have done it by now. Luce would have done it the moment we got on the beach."

Katniss glanced to Luce to see the girl considering it a moment before shrugging in agreement. She learned quick from her first games that if there's any chance to take out the unsuspecting victim, then to do it in the first given moment and save the trouble of having to do it later on.

Finnick picked up his trident and walked off, causing Luce to hurry after him and giving one final look back at the two lovers. As she reached him she put a hand to his shoulder and gave it a squeeze to get him to look at her. When he did she tilted her head slightly and gave him a look that meant "be nice." He only sighed and sat down against a fallen log, Luce sitting next to him as she watched him.

"I'm sorry, but it's not my fault they don't trust us still. I mean what does it take to get her to understand that we are actually trying to help."

All Luce could respond with was a shrug before leaning against him and taking the short moment to relax. Within ten minutes she had fallen asleep, Finnick slowly and gently maneuvered himself in a way so that she was instead laying against the log in a more comfortable way before he got up and walked over to Katniss. He noticed she had taken the first watch as Peeta was a few feet away getting his own rest.

"How is he?" He asked watching the sleeping boy. He had to admit he was a bit surprised that he was still alive after the shock he took earlier. And being the one who helped save him made him feel good, that in an arena of death he was able to give life.

"He's ok I think. Just dehydrated like the rest of us." Katniss responded never taking her eyes off of his sleeping form. Finnick then watched her instead, seeing how much she really did care for him at times. He couldn't help but admire that in the end some of her feelings for him were true. That it wasn't a complete act for the people and cameras. If Annie were here, he knew he'd still be doing everything he could to keep her safe from harm, just like with Luce.

"How's Luce?" Katniss asked in response which caught him off guard.

He then looked the opposite way at the other team member sleeping and couldn't help but smile. "She's strong, she'll be alright."

Katniss was going to ask more but was interrupted by the sound of music playing and the sky being lit up with a projection of the tributes that have been killed so far. Luce was startled awake, and after realizing what was going on she stretched, stood and found her way next to Finnick as they all watched. Peeta watching from where he was lying. As they watched, Luce couldn't help but feel sad for the few that were gone.

"Eight.." Katniss said to no-one in particular. Just a matter of fact.

As Luce moved to go back to her spot she stopped, hearing something off in the distance. Without looking she tapped Finnick and pointed to her ear, to get him to listen. He paused doing as he was told and listened as the noise grew louder. This time the others hearing it as well.

It didn't take long for them to look up and see that it was a small container attached to a parachute, floating its way down toward them. Once it touched the ground Katniss was quick to it and opened it. The rest right behind her, watching to see what it was.

"Drink up.." She said reading the note out loud that had been included, before setting it down and picking up the small object inside.

"What is it?" Finnick asked staring at it.

Katniss told them it was from Haymitch before connecting the dots in her head. "I think it's a spiel."

She took the small object and walked over to a tree, using a large enough rock nearby she carefully hammered it into the tree and waited a moment. Luce felt confused as nothing happened. She was ready to walk away, thinking on why Haymitch would send something they couldn't use, when suddenly water started to stream out of it.

They all smiled and laughed, Katniss and Peeta taking the first turn of dipping their heads underneath and drinking from the falling water. Then Finnick, who took a drink before dipping his head down and wetting his whole head. Luce was last and laughed as the cool liquid slid down her throat, instantly giving relief.

Once they were all refreshed, they chose their own spots a few feet away from each other and decided to try and get some real rest. But just as everyone laid down and started to close their eyes, they were wide again as what sounded like a gong was being repeatedly struck. They all looked around to try and find the source of the noise, but had no luck.

"I counted twelve." Katniss said, Luce nodding in agreement as she too had kept count.

"Midnight?" Finnick suggested.

"Or the number of Districts." Katniss countered in thought.

Suddenly in the distance a bolt of lightning lit up the sky and struck down, hitting a giant tree. It struck multiple times and left them all confused as to what it could mean. They waited a few more minutes to see if anything else was going to happen, and when all seemed quiet again, they laid back down and closed their eyes one final time.

No one could be sure how long they were asleep for, hours or minutes. But it seemed to be the only sleep they would get as they were all woken by a cry of pain. All sitting up as fast as they could thinking they were being attacked by another tribute.

But once their eyes adjusted to the darkness and they looked closer they noticed Katniss hunched over in pain.

"Run!" Katniss yelled as she struggled to get up herself. "Run the fog is poison!" She shouted again and without needing to be told a third time they were all up and running in the opposite direction, down the hill as fast as they could.

Luce ran the best she could while trying to avoid bushes and vines in her path. Finnick in front of her yelling at her to keep going and not to stop. Peeta was just a bit further ahead of them cutting a path the best he could for everyone.

The cursed fog now seemed to be chasing after them, as well as gaining some speed as it continued to roll through and was now coming in from the opposite side. Surrounding their backside giving them the only direction of forward. Katniss tripped causing Peeta to run back for her and help her up, the fog barely touching his skin as he cried out in pain, blisters appearing where his skin was exposed.

Finnick and Luce continued to run ahead as Katniss and Peeta tried to keep up. Finnick reached back for Luce's hand to try and help her stay ahead of him while glancing back to make sure that the others were doing ok. But when he grabbed for her hand she lost her balance and let out a short scream as she fell and felt a sting on the side of her face. Stumbling to get up Finnick turned back to her, let out a cry of his own from the fog, as he hoisted her over his shoulder and started to run as fast as he could with the extra weight.

Luce looked up to him and from what she could see was horror of big blisters covering his neck and side of his face. She could only wonder if she looked the same, the growing pain in her cheek confirming it so.

Everyone was finally able to catch up to each other and while slightly ahead took a moment. All were breathing heavily as they tried to think of how they were going to get out of this. Katniss looked down to Peeta who was now covered in blisters. Each movement causing him some type of pain.

"I can't carry him." Katniss pleaded as the fog continued to descend upon them. Finnick cursed before gently setting Luce down and confirming that she was ok to run on her own. She was already nodding to him by the time her feet were touching the ground.

Finnick grabbed Peeta, wrapped an arm around his shoulder while Katniss grabbed the other side, and together they were once again moving. Luce right beside them to help navigate through the dark, but what she didn't see was the sudden drop and it was too late to warn them as they all fell down another steep hill.

Luce landed on her side with a groan of pain. Too tired to keep going. So giving in to her fate she closed her eyes and waited for the fog to consume her, mentally apologizing to Finnick. But as the seconds went by she realized that she didn't feel any agonizing death. No cannons.

Lifting her head slowly she looked to see that they fog was only a few feet from them, but was pushing itself up against what seemed like an invisible wall, keeping it from going any further. She let a small smile grace her lips as she flopped back down and focused on slowing her breathing and dealing with the pain in her neck and cheek. If only she could go back to sleep and dream it all away.

She could hear Katniss cry out again and wondered if the fog had gotten through the magic barrier and was coming back to finish the job. But hearing no other sounds of demise she allowed herself to stay where she was.

"The water.." Katniss gasped out. "The water helps."

Peeling her eyes open she saw Peeta crawl his way over to Katniss where she seemed to be in a small pool of water. Hearing them splash around in it and their sighs of relief from it she tried her best to sit up and follow. Peeta was quick to her side to help while Katniss went to help Finnick, and together they were pulled into the water. Luce let out a raspy whine as the water touched her burnt skin, but as quick as the painful feeling came it was gone. The pain easing as the blisters were washed away.

Finnick on the other hand thrashed as Katniss helped clean the blisters off of him, yelping out from the pain. Luce sat up feeling much better and nodded to Peeta that she was ok, washing herself off now to prove her point. She gave her body one last full dip in the cool water before moving over to help with Finnick. He could only give a short 'thank you' as he tried to get his breath back, his strength slowly returning.

They all took a moment to collect themselves and come back from the near death experience they all had. Luce would never have guessed that toxic fog would be on her list of threats. Eventually Peeta was the first to move as he started gathering all of their things, while everyone else stayed in the water a bit longer. Luce brought her knees to her chest as she wondered what other dangerous elements could be out there waiting for them.

Katniss noticed her behavior and tried to start a conversation to help. "Hey, you okay?"

Luce only shrugged as she looked around, wondering what part of the jungle they were now in. As she looked upward she instantly froze, staying as still as possible. As slow as she could she tapped both Finnick and Katniss on their shoulders. Looking back at her they were confused a moment before following her line of sight and seeing what was happening.

Katniss moved inch by inch until she standing, drawing an arrow as she gripped her bow. Finnick followed right behind her, fists balled up and ready while Luce gripped her daggers and was looking for an exit route. Judging by the current numbers any direction wouldn't be an easy task.

"Peeta." Katniss said quietly, watching the boy turn around to look at her questioningly.

"Walk over here..Slowly." She told him making him only more confused as to why they were all frozen and ready to fight. Seeing their attention focused elsewhere he quickly turned to see what they were staring at and came face to face with a monkey roaring mere inches in front of him.
