Element of Surprise
Part 11: Home Invasion
"Feeling better?" asked Samantha as she ran her hands down her hubby's legs and arms. "I can't get rid of all the bruising, and neither should I. You don't want to totally rely on me for your healing. It might make you reckless." Samantha placed her forehead against her husband's.
"Yeah," Tim said. "I'm feeling much better."
"Good, because I want to propose we go out somewhere, take a break from the children and just spend time alone, just the two of us."
"That sounds really nice," Tim replied. "I haven't had a night off in a long time. The rest of the gang can take care of things." Tim got up from the bed and got dressed.
"Good," Samantha replied. "Since we're in agreement, I'll tell Alfred what we're planning."
Samantha left the bedroom and went to inform Alfred their plans. Several minutes later, Tim and Samantha were saying goodbye to their children in the nursery.
"We'll be back later," Samantha told their sons.
"Be good for Alfred," Tim added.
The boys looked up at their parents, yawned, and closed their eyes.
"They are all tuckered out," Tim mused.
Samantha and Tim said goodbye to Sasha. Dick was still sleep, having exhausted himself.
"You have a good time," Sasha stated. "You both deserve it."
"I shall take care of the little ones," Alfred said. "And I will inform Master Bruce and Master Jason when they return from their patrol, if you decide to stay in the city for the night."
"Thanks, Alfred," Tim replied. The idea of taking an overnight away sounded really appealing. The Wayne penthouse at the top of the Wayne Foundation would be a nice change of pace.
Still unaware that anything was amiss, Samantha and Tim exited the Manor for a night on the town. Once they were gone, three men leapt down into the Wayne back yard, carrying duffle bags. The three men entered the house through a back door leading out to the garden. When they hear a noise, the three men quickly hid in the laundry room. Washing machines and driers masked the sound as they waited for the noise to pass. Unfortunately, they could hear footsteps coming closer. The three men waited in the dark for the door to open.
"Oh my!"
A fist comes flying at Alfred and then a small canister is dropped at his feet, emitting a gas. The three men exit the laundry room heading through the Manor after their quarry. The three men quickly checked every room for more occupants, tossing a canister every now and then to make sure no one was in that room. They moved their way upstairs, splitting off at the top to check both wings of the house.
Upstairs Dick turned in his sleep, restless, as dreams of something terrible was about to happen. He wasn't aware that someone had tossed a canister into his room. Gas quickly filled the room. Dick's sleep deepened and he never woke up.
Sasha was working on the photo album. She brushed her fingers along an old picture of her and Jason and thought about her days as a crime fighter. A noise caught her attention.
"Jason?"
Sasha stepped out of the bedroom, turned craft space and something was tossed at her feet. It burst open and gas poured out.
'No . . . . *cough*cough*cough.*
Sasha collapsed onto the floor, her body half in and half out of the room, as if she was about to exit the space.
Those responsible headed to the one room they had been waiting to enter. One of the three took another canister and opened it. That person opened the door and let the gas enter the room. They didn't want to use too much, but they didn't want the younglings crying out, even though everyone in the house that was in the house had been incapacitated. Within moments, the intruders were gone with their prize.
