A/N: It's good to hear from you guys again xD
"So," Ted said, as the awkward silence stretched on. Andromeda glanced at him expectantly, waiting for him to say something.
"Err…" Liv, on the other hand, merely raised an eyebrow, knowing he didn't actually have anything to say.
"Seventh year huh, can you believe we made it?"
Andromeda opened her mouth like she was going to say something, but before she could Liv said, "I can't believe you made it."
Andromeda closed her mouth, frowning. She glanced at Olivia, and then at Ted, as if unsure of how to react.
Ted Sighed.
The ride here had not been this awkward. Olivia had made fun of him the whole time, of course, but he'd thrown it right back at her. As soon as Andromeda got in the car it changed. At first, Andromeda had a million questions. How did the automobile work? What did all the buttons do? What did all the numbers mean?
She'd been asking what happened if the automobile ran out of gasoline when Liv interrupted, "Would you stop calling it an automobile? It's called a truck."
She hadn't mean it to sound harsh, Liv was just blunt, but Andromeda reacted like she'd been slapped.
"A… a truck?" she repeated, like she'd never heard the word before.
"Yeah. This thing were in? That's what's it called." This time she sounded a little harsh.
"Liv," Ted started, but she interrupted.
"What? I'm from a pureblood family too, and even I knew that."
"Pureblood means something very differently to my family than it means to your family," Andromeda replied coldly. Ted was used to her chilliness whenever she talked about her family, so it didn't bother him. Liv was a different story.
"Of course, I forgot. Because the Blacks are so much better than everyone else." She shook her head in a I-can't-believe-this-person-is-real kind of way.
Ted didn't miss the angry look that crossed over Andromeda's features. It was one he was all too familiar with, since he was usually at the receiving end. Which meant he knew what was coming next.
"Guys, enough," he said. He wasn't even sure that would work, but it did. It didn't stop them from glaring at each other, hence them all being thrust into the uncomfortable silence.
It reminded Ted of when he and Andromeda first started hanging out, when they'd had no idea what to say to each other. He'd thought they were passed that, but apparently not. It had to be Liv. If it was just the two of them, he was sure they could talk for hours. He hoped.
"So… who do you think is going to be head girl?" he asked.
Without missing a beat, they both said, in perfect unison, "Teresa." Then they glanced at each other in surprise.
Ted smiled a little. Maybe there was hope for his best friend and best girl after all. "Really? You think so?"
"Of course," Olivia said. "She literally cares about everyone, even the snakes."
She shot a look at Andromeda as she said this, waiting for a reaction, but Andromeda only nodded. "Exactly."
Ted wasn't sure why, but he expected Andromeda to be a little less enthusiastic about Teresa. After all, they'd broken up over her, and Ted had dated her for a minute during said break-up, but he wasn't exactly going to press her on it. Not with Olivia in the car.
"Head boy?" he asked. They were a little less sure of their answers this time. Olivia eventually said, "Edgar Bones," their fellow Hufflepuff, while Andromeda said, "Gideon Prewett," a Gryffindor 7th year.
"You don't think he'll choose a Slytherin?" Liv asked, eyebrow raised.
"I hope not," Andromeda said darkly. "Nott practically worshiped Rodolphus."
That thought once again plunged them into an awkward silence, though for a much different reason.
Ted cleared his throat. "We're here."
Andromeda's head whipped up. She'd really pulled into herself when they mentioned Rodolphus, but her whole demeanor brightened as she glanced around the farm. He smirked as he remembered the first time she'd seen it. Well, the second time, since the first time they'd been to busy running from her psycho family to really enjoy it. She'd spent almost an hour just taking it all in. If they weren't careful, she'd do it again.
Thankfully, his mum chose that moment to peak her head out the window. "Perfect, you're just in time for dinner."
Ted slipped out of the truck and then offered his hand to Andromeda as he helped her down. His hand slid around her waist for longer than he needed too, but that was all he dared do with both his mum and Liv watching.
His mum took in Andromeda's appearance as they approached the door, and Ted felt himself flush. The moment he and Liv had seen Andromeda on the platform, Liv's eyes went wide and she snorted,"What is she wearing?"
Ted had told her to keep her thoughts to herself, but he hadn't been able to give his mom the same warning.
"Well," she said as Andromeda approached. "Aren't you something."
Andromeda frowned, glancing at her dress. "I was inspired by Audrey Hepburn," she said tentatively. "From My Fair Lady."
His mum raised her eyebrows. Andromeda's answer caught her off-guard. He wasn't sure what his mum was going to say next, so he said, "Just like our favorite actress. Isn't that nice, mum?" He gave her pointed look. She seemed unappreciative of his coercion, but she managed a smile that didn't look forced.
"Of course. Perhaps you should change before dinner. Wouldn't want you getting gravy all over that dress."
Andromeda nodded, then said tentatively, "it's good to see you again."
His mother smiled briefly, but didn't respond as she ushered them inside. Ted Didn't miss the way Andromeda's shoulders fell as she followed them inside.
"You've almost got it," Andromeda said, fighting back a smile, while Ted made a face at her. They'd been halfway upstairs, before Liv reminded them they'd left Meda's trunk in the truck. It had taken considerable effort to get the trunk indoors, but once they had, Ted had offered to do the locomotor charm, wanting to show off.
He'd underestimated how difficult it would be to get the ginormous trunk through his house full of breakable objects. Granted, the one vase he'd knocked over Andromeda had repaired in a jiffy, but that didn't stop his mother from giving him a sour look.
Finally, mercifully, they made it inside his bedroom. With a quick glance behind him, he shut the door.
Now that they were alone, Andromeda seemed to relax a little. She was glancing around his room with an impressed expression. He'd cleaned it in preparation for her arrival, with a little help from Liv, of course.
"You look really beautiful," Ted said, watching her. His mother and Liv may have found her dress to be too much, but Ted saw the gesture for what it was.
Meda turned back to him, smiling. "You'd say that no matter how I look."
"That's because you look good no matter how you… look." Even by his standards that line was cheesy. You'd think with all the practice he'd had charming Andromeda, he'd be good at by now. Apparently not.
Andromeda, however, only chuckled, moving closer to him. Ted followed suit, leaning down to kiss her.
Their kiss at the train station had been to brief, but Ted intended to take full advantage of the moment alone. He wrapped his hands around her waist while she wrapped her hands around his neck, pulling their bodies closer together.
"Ted!" his mother called from downstairs. "Come help me set the table."
Ted groaned and reluctantly pulled away. He knew what his mother was doing, but he also knew there was nothing he could do about it.
"Is it just me or was it easier to find time together when we were a secret?"
Andromeda smiled sadly. "It's not just you."
"Ted!" His mum called again.
And he called back, "Coming, mother!" Then he turned back to Andromeda.
"To be continued," he promised, then he gave her another quick peck on the lips before easing his way out the door. The last thing he saw was her soft smile before he shut the door.
Both his mum and Liv looked up the moment he got downstairs.
"Did Andromeda need help changing out of her dress?" Liv asked. Ted's mum shot him a look, like she actually believed this.
"We were just talking," Ted said. That wasn't the truth, but it was close enough. He also shot Liv a glare, but that didn't wipe the smirk off her face.
"You know they really do that, don't you? Have someone else change their clothes for them?"
He didn't particularly know that, but he also didn't care, but Liv seemed to think he should.
"Because you're such an expert."
"I heard Zabini bragging about it once. Bragging. And if the Zabinis do that, you can bet the Blacks do too."
Ted glanced at his mother. She wasn't participating in the conversation, but she was shaking her head, like having someone else dress you was such a great crime.
That, more than anything, set Ted on edge. "She's not exactly a Black, anymore, is she?"
Liv laughed humorlessly. "More than you might realize. Did you see that dress?"
His mother laughed, unable to contain herself. Before Ted could defend Meda, not that he was quite sure how, she appeared in the entry way.
He wasn't sure how much she'd heard, but based on her epression –enough. She wore a basic black robe, apparently haven given up on muggle clothes.
At least his mother and Liv had the decency to look ashamed.
"Well," his mother said after the uncomfortable silence stretched on, "let's eat, shall well?"
