I DO NOT OWN THE SELECTION SERIES. SHOUTOUT TO TAMSYZ AND PIXARGIRL FOR CREATING THESE CHARACTERS.
Havana, Province of Dominica. Kingdom of Illèa. The same day.
Jane Topswell was in a place where she felt comfortable: the college Chemistry lab. Everyone else in her class was either in their dorms or the cafeteria or in one of the several lounge areas across campus; basically anywhere a television set could be found. Every student within the appropriate age range has filled out an application for Crown Princess Sybil's selection and they were desperate to see if they got picked.
Surprising to everyone who really knew her, Jane was also among the possible choices to represent Dominica in the selection. The only issue was that Jane had no choice in the matter. Her father had practically forced her to fill out the application, regardless of whether she wanted to or not. He wanted to see her rise in station to prevent her from ending up a slutty girl as her sister. All she could do was study her chemicals and pray that someone else would be chosen. Dominica had thousands of men and women in the required age range, surely someone else would be chosen over her. She detested the idea of same sex relationships, even though she had been in her fair share of them.
Unbeknownst to Jane, her dream of escape came crashing down as her phone rang. She looked to see who it was and when she realized that it was her father. It could only mean that she was now trapped in a royal cage.
"Hola Dad." Jane said wistfully.
"Congratulations on being chosen to represent our province, mija." Senor Topswell spoke with pride through the phone. "Now that you have a chance, you have to try and win that dyke over."
"I know dad." Jane insisted as she had no choice but to listen.
"She likes athletic pursuits, so be sure to offer yourself as a companion to her for these excersions. Show her how fit you are." Her father continued. "Also. call Princess Sybil your Highness and your Majesty at all times. Don't be casual, just make her like you; but Don't be too intimate. It might give people ideas on alternative relationships."
"Yes sir" Jane said to all of his demands, while trying not to sound too sarcastic. That would just get him angry.
"Thank you Jane, you're a very good girl and you know how important this is to our family." Jane merely voiced compliance as she could do little else.
Spokane, Province of Belcourt. Kingdom of Illèa. The same day.
Selene Moore had her nose dug deep into a political science textbook, as she so often did. While everyone else had their ears glued to the tv, she was trying to cram for a political science final that she had the next day. Meanwhile, her room mate Leah, was doing like everyone else their age: watching the announcement.
"Come on Selene, the announcement is going to begin any moment, you don't want to miss it!" Leah insisted.
"I'm almost done Leah, I just need to finish this chapter and then I'll watch." Selene insisted as the Illèan national anthem began to play in the tv and Crown Princess Sybil was shown, sitting on a couch in a Violet colored gown.
"God, she is gorgeous." Leah swooned.
"My fellow Illèans, I was so glad to receive all of your applications and after careful review, I have narrowed it down to thirty five candidates." Sybil said as she began to read off the list, starting with Atlin.
"Come on Selene!" Leah whined.
"1 more moment!" The poli-eco major from Belcourt demanded, her nose still in the book. Eventually, Sybil reached her province.
"From the province of Belcourt, Selene Annabell Moore." Sybil recited as Leah was shocked not only by her roommate getting selected, but that she had seemingly missed it.
"Selene!" Leah exclaimed as she pounced on her roommate. "The princess just said your name, you're in the selection!"
"Are you serious?" Selene asked with a shocked smile as she couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"I swear to God, you got picked!" Leah insisted as she hugged her roommate tight, excited that her room mate was a selected. Meanwhile, Selene was pleased that now she would have a platform to advocate for political change like she wanted.
