It was only a couple days later that Avens cars battery died on her. The library was only open until 2pm on Saturday, and her being the only one scheduled to work that weekend, the parking lot was deserted. She didn't live very far, and could have walked home, but she needed to stop at the grocery store, and she did not want to pack her bags home. Sighing to herself, she closed her eyes, and rested her head on the steering wheel, trying to come up with a plan. The only two options she could come up with were wait here, and hope a good samaritan would stop and give her a jump; however long that would take. Or she could call Teller- Morrow, and ask for someone to come out. But, that would probably cost her at least $60 she didn't wanna spend. Weighing the options to herself, she jumped, and let out a small shriek when she heard two quick knocks on her window.
Her blue eyes widen when they met the dark coal ones of Happy Lowman, standing by her driver side door. His black, and chrome bike parked beside her car. She must have been too wrapped up in her car trouble that she didn't hear him pull up beside her. He motions for her to get out of the car, which she did, almost tripping on her two left feet, but caught herself before the face planted.
Straitening up, she ran a hand down her soft cotton white dress before clasping her hands together. "Hi Happy, uh if you've come to get some more books, the library just closed. We uh, won't be back opened until Monday."
Happy stared back at her for a solid minute, she counted in her head, before he nodded once. Aven rocked back on her red Chucks, "Well, um if thats all, I gotta go call the auto shop to see if anyone can come give me a jump."
Aven was halfway turned to her car, going for her purse to get her cell phone.
"Cars dead?"
She froze for a few seconds, and then turned back to him. "Yeah, I don't know what happened, it was fine this morning when I got here. Didn't leave any lights on when I got out. It just, uhh, won't start. And now I gotta call TM, and wait for someone to come out, and hope it's not too long, because I'm wanting to stop at the grocery store, before I go home, and have dinner done before my show comes on. I really don't wanna miss this episode, it seriously sucks ass to have to wait for a re-run. Oh, and I am planning on making some chocolate cookies to eat with my ice cream. " She finished a little breathless and felt her cheeks heat when she realized she just word vomited on him all her plans for the evening to him.
Aven looked down, and started to nervously play with the golden rings on her fingers. Shaking her head at herself, she looked back up at Happy giving him a small smile, "Anyways..." She started to turn again to reach for her phone.
"Pop the hood"
"What?" She shrieked a little.
Happy stared back at her for a few seconds, before walking toward the front of her car. "Uh okay then."
Who would have thought Happy Lowman would be my good samaritan?
Quickly reaching down, she pressed the button, and heard the hood pop. She walked around to the front of her car, propping her hands to her hips. Happy was already faced down, checking some wires that were connected to her battery. She took the opportunity to look him over without his cold stare back at her. To her he was definitely hot, a little rough around the edges, but that made his appeal better. She never did like the pretty boys. His long arms that were wrapped in ink, muscles that told her he workout, and knowing what she knew about the Sons, she could tell he could for sure hold his own in a fight. The snake tattoo on his head made her wonder what it would look like between her legs. He had a big knife attached to his hip, combined with kutte, he had bad boy written all over him.
Lost in her musings she almost missed it when he said "Wires were a little loose. If the battery isn't drained, it should start right up."
"Really? Are you kidding me, thats all it was?"
Happy nodded back at her, and Aven rushed back around the car, and getting in, turning the keys. It started right up. Aven jumped out of her seat, pumped her hands in the air letting out a loud "YAY!" right as Happy slammed her hood down. "Thank you, thank you so much!"
She watched as Happys lips pulled up in a smirk, and as quickly as he did it, it was gone.
"How can I repay you?" She asked him, "I could give you an extra week on your books? No, I might get in trouble for that... Uh hmm, let me think." She mumbled to herself.
Happy had walked over to stand in front of her, and when she looked up at him, still thinking what she could do for him, he shook his head no.
"What? You don't want me to pay you back? Happy no, I have too! Who knows how long I would have sat out here, waiting on a tow truck or someone else to stop. And all it was was some loose wires, you seriously save me! My night is back on track now that you fixed it for me. Oh, that's it! I can fix you dinner, I always make too much for myself anyways, and this way you'll be helping me out again by not letting food go to waste. That always bugs me, you know, cause theres people all over who don't have anything to eat, and when I end up scrapping wasted food into the trash I get a little teary eyed. You know, now that I think about it, I could probably take it to a shelter or something.."
"Alright woman!" Happy interrupted her. "Just breath, okay?"
Aven was stunned, realizing she was just rambling on again. Slightly embarrassed she ducked her head down. "Sorry, I uh do that, and don't realize once I get started sometimes. Uh, you don't have to come, I just uhh." Aven almost jerked out of her skin when she felt two of Happys fingers under her chin, making her look at him.
"Whatca making chica habladora?" Happy rasped, a light smirk back on his face.
His fingers still under her chin, Avens face pinched, "Did you just call me chatty?"
"It's better than babbler mouth?"
Aven didn't know if she should be offended or not. He was right of course, when she got going sometimes, she could keep talking until she ran out of breath, and then realize who she was talking to had zoned out on her. And she could tell from the smirk Happy wasn't being a total dick about it, he just struck her as the blunt type.
Nothing wrong with that, definitely refreshing.
"Right, well uh, I'm making chicken, and rice with bell peppers. It's not nothing fancy or whatever, I just got a craving for it earlier. But, again if you don't wanna come, it's cool. I can find another way to repay you, you just might need to give me a little time to think of something."
Half praying he would take her offer, and the half not, because she's just now realizing that she just invited a man to her home. Happy wasn't a total stranger, in the sense she just met him right this very moment, but other than him being a Son, and liking horror fiction, she knew absolutely nothing about him. But something small in her gut told her that he wouldn't hurt her, and her Mamaw always told her to listen to her guts.
"I like chicken." Happy replied.
Make that three things I know about him now.
"Okay... uh can I get your number, that way I can texted you my address, and be able to tell you when to come over?" Aven pulled her phone out of her pocket, and handed him it over to him, and watched as he put his number in before handing it back to her. She felt a slight grin come over her when she saved his number under is name, with a smiley face next to it. "So, I guess I'll see you later?"
Happy gave her a quick nod, and took a step back as Aven got back into her car. She watched as he stood there, watching her back out. Pulling out of the small parking lot, she looked into her review mirror, and watched as he leaned back against his bike seat, and lit up a cigarette.
Shaking her head to herself, Aven let out a laugh.
Girl, what have you just got yourself into?
