Chapter 2-A new group

Shane's P.O.V

Shane opened the door to the cabin and stumbled in. He fell on his knees and slowly stood up. He walked to the closet and grabbed a shirt. He tied the shirt around the stab wound on his stomach. He fell back against the wall and breathed heavily. "I hope it's slow." Shane looked up and saw Otis staring at him. "I saved you, and you left me to die out there."

"I had to save Carl," Shane says weakly.

"We could have done that together!" Otis shouts at him. "You shot me because you were scared! You made my wife into a widow! You deserve to die!"

"I'm sorry," Shane says. "I'm sorry," He says before he passes out.

The present

Shane let go of Octavia and hugged Clarke, Theo, and Oliver. After you looked at Blake, "You gonna give me a hug?" Shane asks Blake, who smiles and runs up to him. Shane hugs her.

"I thought you were dead," Blakei says.

"I promised you I'd always come back," Shane says before he kisses her head. Shane lets her go and looks at Rick's group.

"You said you were alone," Glenn says.

"I lied. They could have been listening or put something in there. I wasn't risking my family," Shane tells him.

"Who are they?" Rick asks.

"They saved me after the farm," Shane says.

"They saved Judith and me, Rick," Tyreese says, making Rick look at him. "One of them had his hands around Judith's neck. She killed him," Tyreese tells him as he looks at Octavia.

"Who are they?" Rick asks Shane.

"This is Octavia. She's my wife. This is her brother, Oliver. Her sister Clarke, our friend Theo, and Octavia's daughter, Blake," Shane says. "We'll leave if you want," Shane tells him.

"Give us a minute," Rick says, and Shane nods as the group moves away.

Rick's P.O.V

Rick looked at the group. "What do we do?" Rick asks.

"He tried to kill you a year ago, killed Otis and Randall," Maggie says.

"He could have attacked us when we got in. He didn't. Just by looking at him, you can tell he isn't the same man from the farm. We've all changed a lot since the farm, and Tyreese said his people saved him and Judith. I think we should give them a chance," Glenn says.

"We could use the people," Daryl says. "We don't know if any of those assholes survived that fire. If they coming looking, we should be prepared to fight back. We could use every man we could get."

"Is anybody against them coming with us?" Rick asks them, and nobody says anything. "Alright," Rick says as he walks over to Shane, who is talking quietly. "Shane," Shane looks at him. "If you want, you can come with us."

Shane looks at Octavia, who nods. "Thank you, Rick."

"We got some supplies nearby," Clarke says. "Some food and ammo, we can grab it."

"Alright," Rick says as they start to walk away from Terminus.

Shane's P.O.V

Shane opened his eyes and looked around. Otis was gone. He tried to stand but found he was too weak. "She's not yours." Shane looks around. "You don't deserve to be a father." Shane looked at Lori as she walked up to him and bent down. "I wish you had died in King County."

"I saved you and Carl," Shane says.

"You did, but it should have been Rick. You should have been the one who was shot. You should have been in that bed!" She shouts at him.

"I love you, Lori," Shane says.

"Then why did you attack me in the CDC?" Lori asks.

"I was trying to show you."

"You had nothing to show me! Rick did the right thing in that field. This baby will be better off with you dead, so you should make sure you aren't around to put it in danger," Lori growls as she looks down at Shane's gun that was lying beside him. "Do it. Save your child from the monster you are." Shane grabs the gun.

Carl's P.O.V

Carl walked into the back of the group with Shane. Shane watched Judith as Tyreese held her. "She isn't yours," Carl says, making Shane look at her. "She may be yours by blood, but she isn't your daughter."

"I just wanna be there for her, Carl," Shane tells her.

"You can be, just not as her father. You didn't raise her, Shane. You haven't been there for her. Dad has been; he raised her, and he is her father. You're not her father, is that understood?" Carl asks Shane, who smirks.

"Alright, Carl," Shane says. "Any other terms, kid?" Shane asks as he turns to look at him.

"No more of your mocha man bullshit that you showed on the farm. My Dad is the leader, and Daryl and Glenn are his right-hand men. We all make the decisions, not one person. If I see any sign of you trying to take over, I'll kill you myself," Carl growls.

"Have you ever killed anybody, Carl?" Shane asks Carl.

"I've killed a couple of people," Carl says.

"I'm sorry you had to do that," Shane says. "What happened to Beth? I haven't seen her or heard anything about her."

"I heard Daryl and Maggie talking in the train car. He said she was taken, we're going to find her, and when we do, we're gonna need your people."

"You'll have them," Shane says.

Rick's P.O.V

Rick walked up front with Clarke. They had grabbed the stash and were now walking down the road. "How did you meet Shane?" Rick asks her.

"Some people took our daughter. When we got her back, Shane was with her. He was taking care of her, and she wouldn't leave without him, so we brought him with us, and he became one of us, married my sister about two months ago," Clarke tells him. "He talked about you a lot. How you wanted to find you and make up for what he did."

"He's different, I can tell," Rick says.

"Help!" They hear something shout. Rick looks towards the woods. Shane runs into the woods first, followed by Octavia.

"Follow them," Rick says as they run into the woods. Shane gets there first and stabs a walker in the head as Octavia shoots one with her bow, and Rick stabs one with his knife. Daryl shoots another with his crossbow, and Theo kills the last one with his sword. They all look up at the man sitting on the rock.

"You can come down," Rick says, and the man comes down. He looks at the walkers, bends over, and pukes.

"Sorry," He says. "I'm Father Gabriel,"

"Rick Grimes," Rick says.

"Do you have a camp?" Gabriel asks.

"No, do you?" Rick asks.

"I have a church," Gabriel says. "I can take you too to it."

"Do you have any weapons on you?" Rick asks.

"Does it look like I have any weapons?" Gabriel asks.

"We don't give two short and curlies what it looks like," Abraham says.

"I have no weapons of any kind. The word of god is the only protection I need," Gabriel says after Rick searches him.

"Sure didn't look like it," Daryl says.

"I called for help. Help came," Gabriel tells them. "Do you have any food?"

"Yeah," Octavia says as she hands him two cans of beans.

"How many walkers have you killed?" Rick asks.

"None," Gabriel answers.

"How many people have you killed?" Rick asks.

"None," Gabriel answers.

"Why?"

"Because the lord abhors violence."

"What have you done? We've all done something," Rick says.

"I'm a sinner. I sin almost every day. But those sins I confess to god, not strangers," Gabriel says.

"You said you have a church," Rick says.

"I do," Gabriel says. "I'll take you there."

"Go," Rick says, and Gabriel nods as he starts to walk.

Shane's P.O.V

Shane held the gun to his head. "What the hell are you doing?" Shane looks at Rick as he walks up to him. "I didn't leave you alive so you could kill yourself," Rick says as he bends down. "You're the one who told me that if I wanted to live if I wanted to survive, I gotta fight. I did fight, Shane. Now it's your turn. You fight," Rick says as he hits his shoulder. "You gotta fight, Shane. Fight, survive, find yourself again, find redemption, and find me. Make up for your past, Shane. Now fight, get up and fight, Shane!" Rick shouts before Shane passes out again.

The present

Daryl's P.O.V

Daryl sat in the church making arrows. Rick had taken Clarke, Bob, Sasha, Abraham, Theo, Gabriel, and Michonne to find food while Glenn was searching the town with Maggie and Tara. Shane walked up to Daryl and sat down. "You're different that you were on the farm," Shane says.

"So are you," Daryl says as he puts his knife away. "I knew you weren't telling the truth that night. I just didn't put the pieces together until after I found Randall, and by then, I hoped that you had come to your senses."

"I didn't. It's probably for the best, though. If I didn't, I would have never met Octavia or Blake," Shane says.

"How did you survive?" Daryl asks. "You patch yourself up, or did they?"

"Neither. I was taken," Shane says.

Shane slowly opened his eyes and looked around. "I gotta fight," Shane says as he grabs his gun and stands up. He slowly walks outside and sees the sun as he starts to walk through the woods. He walked for about an hour before he reached the road. As he stepped on the road, he was hit by a car, and his world went black.

Present

Daryl looks at Shane. "Taken by who?" Daryl asks.

"A group of cops, they take people out there, claim they saved their lives, and then makes them work for them. It's where I met Blake."

"What did they drive?" Daryl asks.

"In the city, cop cars," Shane says. "The ones on the road, they drive whatever they can. Their cars have crosses on the back."

"They took Beth," Daryl says, making Shane look at him.

"What?" Shane asks.

"Beth and I got out of the prison together. We found a funeral home, and we got attacked by walkers. I sent Beth outside, and when I came out, they loaded her in the car and were driving away. I chased them all night, but I couldn't catch them. Do you know where they are?"

"Yeah, I know where they are."

Rick's P.O.V

The group walked back into the church and saw Daryl and Shane standing at the front with a map. "What's going on?" Rick asks.

"Shane knows where Beth is," Daryl tells him.

"What?" Maggie asks. "How?"

"They took me after Rick stabbed me," Rick says as Octavia walks in with a piece of paper.

"This is the map we took off the officer we killed," Octavia says as she sets it down in front of Shane and Daryl.

"Where is she?" Maggie asks Shane.

"Grady Memorial hospital."

"She's in Atlanta?" Rick growls.

"Yeah. We're gonna get her," Daryl says.

Shane opened his eyes and looked around the room he was in. "What the hell?" Shane asked as he put his hand on his stomach and felt his wound. He moved the blanket and saw that his wound was cleaned and there were stitches. Shane slowly stands up and, grabs the I.V. stand, and walks over to the window. "Son of a bitch," Shane says as he looks at the city of Atlanta.

Thanks for reading. The next couple of chapters is going to show Shane's journey during the last year of his life. In the next chapter, the group makes a plan, and some leave for Atlanta while the others deal with Garth and his people. Also I am looking for a beta reader for this story if anybody is interested. More characters will get some scenes in the next chapter.
