This was a fun chapter to write! and can I say that I just love Sophie? I think you all will love her too; also, just a heads up: I updated last chapter after my lovely beta did wonders for it. Thank you, Ash!

Theo was having a rough time. He couldn't remember much about his life before, but he felt like he should remember something about it. It had been a week since he had been in this strange town, and he had a feeling he wasn't supposed to be here.

The only thing he remembered for certain was his name, but he wasn't sure it was his real name. There were other names that swam in his mind with no faces to accompany them, but he had a feeling Theodore was his name.

Sophie was practically an angel who had been sent his way. She had never met him before, but she had still offered him a hot meal, and Theo hadn't the will in him to deny: he was starving and she seemed nice enough, so he had taken the risk.

Sitting in Sophie's kitchen, Theo smiled. The kitchen had an open design, with white cabinets and yellow walls; it seemed like a place where you'd find people laughing over a cup of tea and scones. The table in front of him was prepared for three people.

"I wonder if she was expecting someone before she invited me," he murmured, before he heard the sounds of footsteps coming towards the kitchen. "Oh, hello there."

"I hope I didn't make you wait long," Sophie said, smiling softly at him. "I just went to invite over a friend."

Theo turned to the woman still standing at the door. She had brown hair that curled around her face and stopped at her shoulders, freckles scattered on her nose. And she had the most kissable lips Theo had ever seen—or maybe it was because he didn't remember anyone from his earlier life. But it was her eyes that attracted him.

Big brown eyes that were looking straight at him as if she knew him…but it wasn't possible. Not that Theo could know for certain.

"Mia, I want you to meet Theo," Sophie said, motioning for the woman, Mia, to enter the kitchen. "Theo, this is my good friend and neighbour, Mia Harris."

"Hello," Theo said in a friendly tone of voice, or so he hoped. The woman continued to just stare at him. It was beginning to creep him out.

"Mia?" Sophie prompted her as she sat down next to Theo.

"Oh, hi! Sorry—hi, nice to meet you, Theo," Mia said, approaching the table and pulling out the other chair. It screeched noisily against the hardwood floors, and a stray image of a harsh-looking man flashed in his mind but disappeared in less than a millisecond. Mia cautiously sat down beside Sophie.

"It's nice to meet you too," Theo mumbled, feeling as if something was wrong, but he couldn't pinpoint what.

"Aren't we a lovely bunch? Let's eat, dearies," Sophie said and put two slices of pie on the plate in front of Theo. "Eat up, you look like you need some meat on your bones."

Theo chuckled, liking this side of Sophie. He wasn't going to disagree with the blonde woman; he really needed to eat. He had been in the town for about a week and he was famished.

Mia kept throwing glances at him throughout the meal, but she never said anything. She just looked at him, frowned and went back to her food. Theo thought it was weird, but he didn't want to say anything and upset his host Sophie.

"Thanks for inviting me to tea, Sophie. I don't know when I last ate a proper meal," Theo said when he had finished everything she had piled on his plate.

"Oh, I was just happy to feed someone else for a change." Sophie smirked in Mia's direction, who scowled at her. "Are you sure you don't want anything else?"

"I can't honestly eat anything more." Theo smiled and started to stand up, but Sophie put her hand on his arm, stopping his progress. "Sorry?"

"Don't mind me for being so forward, but…do you have a place to stay?" Sophie gave him a concerned look. "I'm worried about you being on your own, no memory of anything."

Theo felt himself blushing; he didn't want any more attention than he had already received.

"Ahn…I'm getting by," Theo replied, not wanting to tell them how he'd been sleeping on the street for the past week, seeing as he didn't have anything on him except for a weird piece of wood that he thinks is a stick, but don't have the heart to throw away.

There were some golden coins that he tried giving them to shopkeepers but they turned him away, thinking he's gone mad and is probably a thief. Theo decided to keep it for the foreseeable future.

"You know…I have an empty room, and it gets so lonely here on my own." Sophie gave him her best puppy-dog eyes. Theo could feel Mia's eyes on him. "I would feel better if someone was staying there."

"But…you don't know me! How can you offer me a room?" Theo knew he should be thankful, but he felt like he needed to avert Sophie somehow.

"Yes, Sophie, how can you?" Mia said, putting so much emphasis on Sophie's name that a shiver ran down his spine.

Sophie dismissed their concerns with a wave of her hand. "I just have a feeling about Theo here. My offer still stands. What do you say?"

Theo knew he should accept but still took the invitation with a grain of salt. Realising he didn't have much going on for him at the moment and he couldn't deny these types of invitations, he smiled.

"I think I will accept your offer, only if I could do something in return? I'll do your chores or housework for you, thought I might have to learn how because I don't remember anything." Theo was a little ashamed of saying it, but he had to tell her the truth.

Sophie beamed at him. "Mia can help you! She's amazing at that."

"I think it's a deal then," Theo said, smiling. It seemed like something good was finally happening to him.
