Man, I did not expect you all to actually enjoy the last chapter! I primarily wrote it because I got some inspiration based on some anime and other Fanfictions and thought I should try writing it down. Turns out, I am either a pretty good writer or the DanMachi Fandom is in need of new stories… I'm leaning towards the latter though.
This chapter came out a lot quicker than what I usually do, but the creativity was still there. Don't expect another one until I release another chapter for my first story. Also, super stooked about the reviews! I enjoy seeing what I need fixed or issues some people have. While I may not fix all of them, it helps with future chapters. So, let's answer some of the reviews.
The-Anti-Akuma- Yea, I realized it was pretty wordy, but it was somewhat needed. I wanted a fleshed-out backstory to make it so future chapters could flow easier. Also, this chapter is probably the same, since it's still the background for the character. Hopefully, it is a bit easier
Frankieu- I really appreciate the review man! I'm glad you liked it and hopefully, it continues to be interesting!
MidnightAmbush- Sorry to say man, but if you don't like SI you probably shouldn't read the story. The SI will eventually turn into an OC as the story progresses since the character will act more based on what has happened in the story rather than what I would do. I didn't want to write the character as Bell because I already like his story and I wanted my character to work with Bell's character rather than creating a completely different version of Bell based on how I would perceive the situation. Bell will be introduced so don't worry about that. Hopefully, you can stomach the SI and see the story I want to create!
So with the reviews out of the way, let's get into the story! Also, the story will have time skips in this chapter since I didn't want to go into too much detail on the life of the character. I will highlight important parts in their life and skip the non-important. There will be a time where the time skips will stop, but that will probably be when he is near Orario
When the blue aura finally encompassed my whole being, I could no longer move, as if something was compressing my body on all sides. Every time I would try to move, my body failed to respond, and on the off chance that my limbs did comply, they would act halfheartedly, with little to no results coming from their action. Each time that it felt like I was making any progress, the constricting feeling would return twofold, leaving me in the same position as I was before. All in all, it was quite a terrifying and annoying experience, especially since I had no idea what was going on. After some time, the bluish aura began to dissipate, and in its place was the utter blackness of the abyss.
'Just great! I go from one colored place to the next, with each becoming worse than the one before! Just let me finally get to a multicolored area already!'
When the blue aura finally dissipated, my movement became a bit more functioning, with me able to move around a lot easier but still making very little progress in the grand scheme of things. Before I could begin cursing Steve and the other Gods for putting me in such a strange predicament, a small white light began to shine in front of me. I was slightly surprised by the suddenness of the light, but as I continued to gaze at the illumination, the light grew larger and larger as time passed. Oddly enough, although the light was now shining into the area, it did not seem to illuminate my surroundings, which was puzzling and disconcerting, as I still did not know where I was. Seeing as there was nothing else for me to do or gain in this place, I tried to move towards the light.
As I tried to make my feudal attempt towards the light, a thought raced across my mind. 'Maybe I actually died and the whole Steve thing was a figment of my imagination as I died. Maybe I am going into the afterlife since I'm following the light in the tunnel. Fuck, that sounds depressing! Well, I won't know till I get there right? Might as well see before I psyche myself out.'
As I tried making my way towards the light, the constricting feeling began to slightly tighten around me. The feeling would go away after a few seconds, but as the feeling went away, I would be a little bit closer to light. After a while, as I finally reached the beginning of the light, I took a closer look at the illumination. Sounds could be heard coming from the light, while the sounds were muffled, most of the sounds seemed to be mostly feminine in nature. With that observation, I suddenly realized where I was, and what was currently happening to me. 'Holy shit! I am being born! As the realization came to me, the light suddenly stretched outwards, swallowing me in the glow, and then I started screaming!
-Day 1
As I screamed, half in disgust and half in horror, I felt the cool air grace my skin, causing me to blindly move around in search of some kind of warmth. After a few moments of fidgeting around as I tried in vain to reorientate myself, a sudden and sharp pain shot through my tiny body, causing me to scream and fidget even more than before. Just as I was about to open my eyes to see what was happening around me, something was wrapped around me, stopping my limbs from flailing around. Although the sudden influx of sensations to being born was slowing down my cognitive abilities, my subconscious was able to recognize the foreign wrappings as a blanket for new infants. With that realization, I calmed down enough so that I was no longer screaming or fidgeting. Although I still was unable to see at the moment, I could feel myself being moved around, most likely being moved by a midwife, or something similar. With my screaming now gone, I could now hear the sounds around me, but couldn't understand a damn thing being said! It was slightly disconcerting not being able to understand those around me, but the tones of voices coming from the people around me were that of excitement and happiness, which drastically reduced my discomfort.
Finally having enough of the lack of sight, I opened my eyes, and while it took a few seconds for me to properly see, I could finally see what was happening around me. It was slightly hard to focus, but I was able to make out three people, or who I thought were people. Two of them were in front of me, one lying down in a bed, while the other was holding the hang of the one in the bed. 'My new mom and dad… that's going to take a lot to get used to. Luckily I have some time.' The last person was the one holding me, a beautiful young woman with the blackest hair I had ever seen, almost as if I was looking into the abyss once again. Most of her hair was swept back behind her, but a few strands few lose as she looked down at me. If I could talk, she would leave me speechless at her beauty, for the women holding me had to be a goddess, for no one could look that perfect. The other features that were just as captivating as her hair were her golden eyes, and her darkly hued lips that surrounded a currently beaming smile. She tried talking to me, but it was still gibberish to my ears. I tried in vain to talk back, but all that came out gurgles and moans. The woman only seemed to laugh at my response before she gently handed me to my new parents.
As I continued to look at the goddess, curiosity growing in my mind at which goddess she could possibly be, many names coming to my mind but nothing I could prove without hearing her name. Just as I narrowed down the list to a handful of deities, some also being male Gods from my universe, the Goddess said a few unknown words to my parents before she wrapped all three of us in a group hug. Both my parents seemed sad at her words before they hugged the deity back and said similar words back to her. The Goddess let us go, and gave all of us a big smile and a wave before she quickly left the room, leaving me alone with my new family.
With the goddess gone, my attention was then drawn to my parents, both of whom were looking at the door with sadness as I observed them. I first looked at my father, as I could see more of him without having to move around too much. He had shortish black hair that almost reached his shoulders. It had a messy look to it that I wasn't sure was because of the stressful event of his wife going through labor or was just the way the hairstyle worked, but either way, it worked for him. On the side of his head, half-hidden by his hair were two long, pointy ears that definitely screamed elf. 'Looks like Steve pulled through with the elf request!' After that sudden thought, I went back to observing the rest of him. He had large brown eyes that reminded me of milk chocolate, and when he looked at me, I could only see love and happiness in them. He had a straight nose, free of any bumps or curves which seemed to fit his face very well. Mixed all those previous traits with his somewhat chiseled jawline and square shin, made him look like your stereotypical handsome elf. The only difference from the usual elf that I was accustomed to, was the small beard patch he had on his chin. 'I guess elves in this world can grow facial hair. Glad to know that I have the option I guess. But now that I think about it, I don't think I saw many male elves in the anime, only females! Hmm, I guess an anime about a boy wanting a harem wouldn't include a lot of men… Still odd if you ask me.'
After I finished making my observation about my father, I then looked to my mother who was silently smiling down at me as we made eye contact. While she was not as beautiful as the Goddess before, she was still beautiful, even with the disheveled and slightly sweaty look from childbirth. She had long grey hair the color of ash that traveled down her face and back in small waves. She had a small turned-up nose, that matched her small mouth. As I continued to observe her, she began to speak, and speak she did. Gibberish was coming out of her mouth faster than I could even try to comprehend if it was English! I don't know if it was because of the birth or if she was just a talkative person, but she seemed to always have something to say as I continued to gaze at her. She had a pointed jawline, with high cheekbones and a shallow face that would make any women cry in jealousy. But the most eye-catching feature about her was her eyes. They were well proportioned to the rest of her face, but the color and her long lashes were what made her eyes so lovely. Her eyes were a dark violet color, which I would find very improbable if I wasn't now in the world of an anime where magic and oddities were commonplace. Hell, Bell was pretty much an albino, and no one looked at him strangely! But as I gazed at both my parents, I began to think.
'Honestly, as awful as it sounds, both of my parents are pretty attractive, hopefully, I take after them in the looks department! Even if I barely look like them, I would still look pretty better than a lot of people on Earth! If so, I will have to give a small prayer of thanks to Steve for that!'
Just as I finished my thought, my mother brought me in front of her face and started speaking. None of her words were recognizable, except for three words that seem to go slightly against the language.
"Asura Illusio Larethian"
'Huh, I guess that's my new name…Not bad!'
-Day 60 (2 Months)
I'll be totally honest, reliving life as a baby is honestly one of the worst experiences imaginable! It has only been around sixty days and I am already nearing a breaking point! First of all, breastfeeding is extremely uncomfortable! I know that I need to do it for my body's sake, but my brain is telling me that it is wrong, especially since it's supposed to be from my mother, with who I have yet to create any close bonds yet. I am just counting down the days when solid food becomes available, even if baby food tastes terrible. Second, going to the bathroom is another uncomfortable and very embarrassing situation, that I barely want to discuss! Just know that it is disgusting, and it is the only time that I ever cry so that I can get it over with as quickly as possible. Thirdly, the life of a baby is completely fucking boring! There is nothing that an infant can do that can be remotely entertaining. The only interesting thing that happens is when my mother takes me outside with her when she needs to do errands, and most of the time I'm so bundled up I can barely see anything! God, I just can't wait till I can crawl, and eventually walk. The only, and I mean only good thing about this entire situation is that I am beginning to learn more about the languages. While I can't say anything in Elvish, for obvious reasons, I am getting better at understanding certain words. So far, I've only learned a few simple words from parents, words such as food, bathroom, sleep, mom, dad, and other words usually spoken to babies.
Not only have I picked up some of the languages, but I have also learned more about my new parents. For starters, my mother's name is Aurora Velte Larethian, while my father's name is Rilifane Thelandira Illusio. I found it strange that they did share the same last name, but it was something to ask about at a later date. I also learned that both my parents were well respected in the village. Every villager, be it a guest in our household or someone on the streets, would give my parents, and in some cases, myself, a kind and somewhat respectful greeting. I wondered if it had to do with their positions in the village, with my mother being a healer of some sort, while my father was one of the main hunters of the village. Or because we were the only elves in the village. But, similar to my other growing list of questions, they would have to wait until I could eventually communicate to them to find the answers.
Speaking of communication looks like I have to go to the bathroom soon… Gods, I hate being a baby.
-Day 120 (5 Months)
Well, after about 5 months, give or take a few days, I now know how to crawl! God, it sounds pathetic when I say it out loud, but it's probably the best thing that's happened to me in this new life so far! I am no longer stuck in the same position for hours on end! I can now travel!
Well, travel around the house, but it's a start! Especially since it means that I'm that much closer to walking! Although I have been around the house, with the help of my parents, being able to go to specific places on my own feels great. On another positive note, I am now getting the hang of talking! Elvish, or what I believe to be Elvish, is a somewhat difficult language to speak out loud. While it is difficult to speak, it is much easier to understand when spoken to, with the number of known words continuing to grow as the days go by. Especially if my parents continue to teach me as well as they are now.
Often, my parents will point to a specific object around the house and repeat its name a few times to me before pointing to a new object and starting the process all over again. I think they understand that I am not an average baby, as their teaching method seems to be a bit more advanced for a five-month-old baby. Or it could be that elf babies can comprehend more than a human counterpart, but id like to think that it's the former of the two ideas. During these "lessons", they would often switch to another language, as it was distinctly different than Elvish. I would guess that they were using Common, or whatever it is called in this world. The Common language is a lot easier to pick up and understand, as it seems to have a similar language structure to English. Thank the Gods for that! So while Common was spoken less in our house in comparison to Elvish, I was able to understand it fairly quickly. Although my vocabulary was limited, at the pace I am setting now, I should be able to speak both languages fairly well in the coming years.
But besides learning more on the language side of things, let's get back to the current task at hand, crawling! Our house was two stories tall, with the bedrooms on the top floor while the rest of the living space is on the main floor. At the moment, I am stuck to a specific floor, seeing as the stairs are an obstacle that I cannot overcome at the moment. Most of the time I find myself on the main floor of the household, exploring most of the floors on the ground floor. During my exploration, I was able to learn more about our family and our house.
Our home isn't anything special in comparison to the rest of the village, with most of the houses being the same size and structure as ours. The furniture is fairly basic, with most of the furniture being made of simple dark wood that is most likely gathered from the surrounding forest. The lights in the house are made of small magic stones that easily light the whole house. Surprisingly, the kitchen and bathroom were somewhat modernized, with the bathroom having a toilet, a small bathtub, and a sink; and the kitchen has a fridge, stove, and another sink. I am guessing that magic is the cause of the modernization since I highly doubt they have the technology for those appliances. Other than the furniture, the house was somewhat spartan, with very few decorations around the house. The only decoration on display is small plants, hunting trophies, small weapons, and a lot of books. All in all, it was a nice, simple house that I thought was quite charming.
Villagers would sometimes come over and visit with my parents, and my parents would always treat them with smiles and kindness. It was interesting to see the relationships that my parents had with the rest of the villagers. The main reason that I found it interesting was because of the lack of strong relationships between elves and humans in the anime. While some elves got along with people of other races, like Ryuu and Riveria, there wasn't a whole lot of intermingling between Elves and the other races of the world. My parents would even shake hands and hug other villagers, which from what I remember from the anime is a big no-no for elves! It was just another question I would have to find out at a later date. Gods, the questions never seem to end!
-Day 240 (8 Months)
Three more months have passed by and three new things have occurred! First, winter has finally approached, with the first signs of snow arriving a few weeks ago. It seems that the DanMachi universe has similar seasonal patterns to that of Earth. Although it seems like the winters are a lot less harsh than what I was used to, it has still become a lot colder from the previous season, but not enough to make the cold unbearable. Luckily, our home has a fireplace, so our home stays fairly warm throughout the day. Sometimes, all three of us will lay by the fireplace at night, and slowly fall asleep in each other's embrace, only waking up when the fire finally splutters out. Times like those are the moments when I truly embrace this new life of mine, and the new connections I am making.
The second new development is my ability to talk, rather than saying gibberish! The new acquisition of teeth was a big help in that factor. My parents were very surprised at how early I had begun speaking but were so overjoyed at my ability to talk that they didn't seem to mind that I was ahead of most babies by a few months. With my new ability to talk, both my parents began to teach me at a much faster pace, understanding that I could learn at a faster pace. They started teaching more words, some of them harder than others. Although it was difficult learning two languages at the same time, I was happy to be kept busy.
Thirdly, I could now walk! Not very well, but I could make it from one room of the house to another, and only fall once or twice! In my book, that is a grand accomplishment! On the downside, my legs felt like jello as I walked, almost like I didn't have full control of them yet. Also, if I walked for too long my muscles in my legs would ache, causing me to sit down for a while before I could do it again. I know I am walking earlier than most babies but fuck I didn't think it would be this difficult! I just want this baby thing to be over already.
-Day 365 (1 Year)
It has now been a whole year since I first arrived in the DanMachi universe and I've got to say, things are slowly looking up for me! Crawling has become non-existent as I am now able to walk normally, with little to no breaks. I am also able to walk around the whole house, bottom and top floor with no problems. And lastly, I have now been allowed to go outside into our yard on my own! Although the yard is fairly small in comparison to some of the others in the village, it does provide me enough room to exercise and enjoy the outside. Surrounding the yard is a small stone wall that reaches about three feet in height, giving me the ability to observe the rest of the village more in a safe environment since I'm still considered barely more than a baby. On the upside of still being a child, people tend to overlook you unless they are looking for you. I spend hours just observing the villagers or reading one of the practice books in reading that my parents gave to me, without so much as a glance in my direction! Even my parents have begun to give me more time to myself, seeing as I am very, very mature for my age. Since being here, almost every waking minute is spent with my family, so it's nice to finally get some time to myself.
During the time I watch the village, and the occasional visits with my parents, I have learned a lot about our village. For starters, our village's name is Alera, and around a hundred different people live here. Alera primarily focuses on agriculture and hunting to get by, with much of the overstock being sold to traveling merchants or neighboring towns. Our chief export is potatoes, tomatoes, and wild animal furs. Our closest neighbor is a town called Karuna, a merchant town that buys most of our goods. The forest that borders our village is called Ashenia Forest and has many amazing creatures in it, monsters too! We are also somewhat near Orario, around a 12-day journey in good conditions. When I heard that, I had looked to the horizon in each direction, trying in vain to see the tower of Babel, but to no avail. Maybe one day my family and I can visit it! It would be nice to learn more about the city before I eventually decided to go there. Especially since I don't have a whole lot of knowledge about the city before the main story with Bell.
Besides those interesting locations, the village was fairly normal. The population of the village most mostly humans, with the exception of our family and a few others. There is a male Dwarf blacksmith named Oghren, who has a bit of an alcoholic problem but is kind to everyone in the village. Next is a female dog woman, or Chienthrope named Alice. She is one of the farmers in the village and is very shy, but a very hard worker. There is also an old male Pallum that goes by the name Welby. He is the main shopkeeper in town, and he highly values good work ethics. So much so, that he gives discounts to those that work hard in the village. Lastly, is us, the three elves of the village! Surprisingly, racism is non-existent in the village, even with the majority being human. There also didn't seem to be a whole lot of racism in the anime as well, but I had thought that had to deal with Orario being an adventure city, so it didn't matter what race you were. Good to know that most of the world doesn't care what you are or who your parents were. Another surprise was the kindness that each villager gave me in our first introductions. Many would shake my hand with a large smile as they slowly introduced themselves and what they did in the village. Many were shocked by maturity and ability to talk fairly coherently, but after the initial shock, they would congratulate me and my parents before they would tell me a little about themselves. It was hard to remember every person, but I was getting better as I met them more often.
So, that about covers my first ever year in the DanMachi universe! Most of it was awful if I am being honest with myself, but every moment that didn't involve my total ineptitude was amazing and I can't wait to experience the rest that this world has to offer! Hopefully, It won't take too long!
So, how was it! Hopefully, it wasn't too jumpy with all the time skips, but I don't think anyone wants to read the whole life of a baby as they grow up. The next chapter will be more interesting as there probably won't be such an info dump like this chapter. Most likely will be a couple more chapters before he gets to Orario, so buckle up.
So, I will sometimes ask questions at the end to see if they are good ideas for the story, so if they are or aren't let me know.
The only question I have is, Are his powers alright? I don't want to make him OP but I want him to be on the same level as Bell, which is really hard since he levels up so fucking fast! Most of his skills will be Utility, I.E. the gamer skill, but is that enough? Let me know! Thanks!
As always, review or pm anything you think I should know. If you have a fun idea for the story, message me and maybe I can work it into the story… If it fits! Thanks, guys, see you soon!
