Swift Heart's Scare by Wyldclaw

Plot: Here is the second chapter of the Blending of Two Worlds crossover. This chapter is set in the Forest of Feelings in Carelot. I don't own any characters asides from Wyld Heart Wolf and the name of the river that runs through the Forest of Feelings-Rainbow River). this takes place about fifteen - twenty years after the second movie (the one with Noble Heart and True Heart). Loyal/Proud hints. italics are thoughts. includes a bit of violence and blood. Please read and review! On with the story.

It was a beautiful spring day in the Forest of Feeling and since it was such a nice day out, Swift Heart and Loyal Heart were going to have a picnic at the bank next to the Rainbow River after they met up with Proud Heart Cat, another one of the Cousins-and Loyal Heart's longtime crush..

"Come on Loyal Heart. I'll toss you a Frisbee when we get to the picnic spot." Swift Heart Rabbit, a Care Bear Cousin, called to Loyal Heart Dog as she waited for him on the top of a hill, picnic basket in her front paws and a blanket over her shoulders. Swift Heart was a light blue rabbit with a winged heart for her tummy symbol whereas Loyal Heart had a heart shaped medal as his tummy symbol

He looked around nervously as if afraid someone would sneak up on him. "D-Does my fur look okay, Swift? Do I have anything in it? I'm not the least bit nervous about h-having l-lunch with Proud Heart. Not whatsoever. Um.. Would you consider this a date? I mean ." The blue dog asked her as he caught up with her at the top of the little hill where she was waiting for him.

She rolled her eyes and sighed. "Loyal, you'll be fine . She went on a caring Mission but when she's done she's going to meet us here. if you have feelings for Proud Heart , why don't you just tell her?" she asked him as he caught up to her and they continued walking towards Rainbow River.

His face blushed strawberry red for a few seconds "I-I get all tongue tied when I try to talk to her about it. it's like I know what I want to say but the words won't come out. She's so beautiful and kind . I guess I'm scared, Swifty" He admitted

"Loyal Heart, love is nothing to be scared about. You just have to embrace it and hope for the best. Oh great I'm starting to sound like love-a-lot." she told him as they walked along the bank for a bit before finding a beautiful spot about five-six feet from the river. "Why are you scared? You've taken on Noheart, and others, you shouldn't let a thing like that scare you. " She ended as she took the heart dotted blanket from her shoulder and spread it out onto the ground. She then put the picnic basket on one end of the blanket, so it would stay flat .

"Just .. nervous i guess.."

"You'll be fine . it's natural to be nervous before something big like this. "

They both sat down at the edge of the blanket . Loyal Heart sighed. " I know Swift.. but .. what if.. what if she doesn't like me in that way? I mean I'm a dog and she's a cat. she's all neat and clean and beautiful and has a beautiful singing voice and I … usually have dirt all over my fur. I like playing with the guys and snoozing with the calmer members of the Family . I can't really sing too well ."

"You know what they say .. opposites attract. Maybe your differences are what attracts you to her. I'm sure it will be fine, everyone knows how much you like her . you've liked her ever since we were cubs," She paused , not adding that Proud Heart did like him. " I think that Proud Heart would think that you're brave by telling her your feelings. You're Loyal Heart dog. You =run charging into fights against villains just as much as Brave Heart but you also provided companionship to a person in great need . You're a exceptionally true-blue friend. "

Loyal Heart blushed . " You're right Swifty . I talked to Noble Heart about it and he told me basically the same thing. He said it doesn't matter what we look like on the outside but if the person loves us for who we are on the inside. He and True Heart are different species but that doesn't stop them from being loving mates and the founders of our Family. "

"He knows what he's talking about and he's full of wonderfull wisdom too. Remember that time that I lost the Obstacle Course Race 'cause I was so over confident ?"

He nodded at the memory. Beastly had entered himself in the race through a loophole and gotten rid of all the other participants apart from Lotsa Heart Elephant and Swift Heart in order to win the race. She was so sure that she'd win that she got overconfident and got stuck on a tree not too far from the finish line. Luckily Lotsa Heart won the race and he'd become King of Care-a-Lot for a day. If he hadn't won, who knew what sort of awful things Beastly would have done as King of Care-a lot.

"He told me afterwards that it was a good thing I lost the race because it gave Lotsa a chance to be in the spotlight . . As for a method to keep your nerves away when you're talking to Proud Heart, just pretend you're talking toWish , Harmony, Funshine or any of us other girls when you're speaking to her since you don't have any trouble chatting to us."

Loyal Heart sighed as they both got up. "I see what you mean, ' I'll make an effort."

She patted him on the back. " that's the spirit. Don't worry loyal you'll do great"

He closed his eyes and held out one of his front paws as the symbol on his stomach glowed white for a few seconds. A small beam of light appeared from the symbol and formed into a small Frisbee with his symbol on it in his paw. He opened his eyes as the light from his stomach vanished. He held it out to her who took it in one paw. "Can you throw it so I can stop being so nervous when she comes? But try not to throw it too far."

"Okay here's the windup. " she got the arm holding the disc into a throwing position ' and the pitch" she threw the Frisbee as hard as she could into the air. Both Cousins watched as it flew into the Forest. Then Loyal dashed after it, leaving a cloud of dust and cloud fluff behind him.

'If he ran that fast during the annual race he'd beat everyone' . As the dust settled she heard a Cloud mobile honk at her so she looked up and saw Proud Heart Cat looking down at her from thirty five feet above . "How'd it go?"

"Purrrrr-fectly well. " she replied. "I take it that blue blur was Loyal ."

"Yup" Swift heart responded. "You might want to find him before he forgets that we are having lunch today, since he has his Frisbee. He went into the forest. "

The cat cousin giggled, she had a bit of a crush on the blue dog herself . She gave Swift Heart the paws up sign and then her cloud car flew out of sight and disappeared into the forest

The rabbit sighed happily as she lay back on the ground with her front paws behind her head, a light breeze ruffling her fur. It seemed like nothing could go wrong today. It was a wonderful day, Loyal Heart was finally going to confess his feelings for Proud heart to her. later she, Grams Bear and True Heart were going to help Tugs, Hugs, and the Wyld Heart Wolf , learn and practice their Calls, and in the case of Wyld Heart ,his Stare,

Swift Heart laid back on the blanket and thought of the progress the young silver-white wolf Cousin had made since arriving . The family had found the poor wolf being abused and tortured in a lab so he was still skittish around big crowds . The people who had tortured him had been using him as a test subject for all sorts of this . His right eye had a scar running through it and his left front paw was a stump. He had been nervous when he first arrived and was slowly coming out of his shell. It didn't help that he had slpit personalities. Despite his past he remained upbeat

She closed her eyes and took another big sigh. A few minutes later she heard a dry whisper call her name "Swift heart… swift heart. Swift heart"

her ears perked up . " huh." she opened her eyes, stood up from the blanket and looked around, here ears twitching.. Something was calling her name so she walked over to the bank of the river a few feet away and saw the strangest sight.

She jumped as she looked over at the other side of the River (and it was an adequate sized distance between the two banks). For there on the other side was a blood-red horse like being with two claws in the front that was pawing the earth and two in the back, pale red eyes, large bat like wings, a long tail that split at the end into two sharp tips. . Evilness oozed from it and she shivered, suddenly cold. What kind of creature is that ' her heart pounding. "Wh-what are you and how did-did you get here?" She asked the strange creature, trying to sound braver than she felt.. "And how-how do y-you know my name?"

"who I am, well that," It waved a claw .."is none of your concern. I'm surprised that you don't recognize who I am", the creature backed up, spread its wings and jumped over the river to the bank she was on. She quickly jumped out of the way before the creature landed where she had been standing a few seconds ago. It glared at her as if it had intended to crush her into the clouds. The monster lashed its tail and claws at the rabbit , who missed the monster's tail but its front claws scratched her sides. Lines of crimson blood appeared - she winced in pain.

"How would I know what this thing is if I've never seen it before?"She muttered as she evaded the creature's tail with her speed. Gathering up her energy, She charged up her Call but the monster had vanished into thin air. she willed her Call to stop charging. " I guess it left" she said.

" Wrong !" She looked up and was barely able to dodge out of the way as she dodged it with all her might She saw one claw coming at her and quickly jumped but didn't see the second claw behind her until it struck. She yelped as it gave her a decent sized slash on her legs, which slowed her down.

She stopped to catch her breath but she didn't realize it was behind her until she saw both claws snake around her whole body. They're lioke elastic claws .. she though was hoisted into the air until she was face to face with the monster's dark blood colored eyes. She felt its claws digging into her fur, and saw lines of blood run down her fur

"Do you remember now?" the monster growled in her face.

"N-no." She shook her head fearfully.

It then dropped her onto the ground leering. " you don't remember me as you were just a cub at the time and never saw . I heard True Heart call you by your name and then I saw you leave with those camp brats who ran away . Remember me now ? "

. Her heart ran like a cheetah in her throat- she knew who this creature was. But how is it possible? If it was really him-. she shuddered. . "No, it can't be. "

"oh it is.. " The monster snapped one of it' s front claws and became a mass of red fog with dark red eyes. The blue rabbit felt paralyzed as the fog then changed into a young boy with flaming red hair and red eyes with red pants and a red jacket. Atop his red hair, there was a red and white hat. "Boo."

'D-d-Darkheart " she tripped over her words . " I thought we deafted you .. we- we..."

" you thought me defeated . oh no rabbit. I'm back with lots more tricks" he grinned

She was taken aback, of course but she knew what she had to do. ' I have to let Noble heart know' she began to inch towards the picnic basket, where her Care Bear heart phone or Heartphone was inside. Everyone was given a , which was a heart shaped cell phone- with a small video screen in case True Heart or Noble Heart needed to get in touch with them for an emergency or if they were on a Mission.

Darkheart snapped his fingers once and before she could get closer to the basket, a mess of thorny vines came out of the ground. The vines wrapped around her body tightly and lifted her up until she was eye to eye with the shapeshifter. The non-thorny parts covered her mouth just as she was about to yell for help, like a gag. She tried to move her body but every time she moved, the vines scraped into her skin and fur, causing streams of bright red blood to trickle out down her pale blue fur

" Silly rabbit" he laughed. " you can't escape. The more you fight back the more it will hurt you." the demon smiled as the rabbit tried to wriggle free but no success. He was watching her with amusement as if it were his idea of entertainment "Look at you all scared and helpless without anyone to save you"

If I could only send out a Call, they'd know I was in trouble. she tried to loosen the vines trapping her. No such luck .Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a small opening within the vines a few inches away that Darkheart didn't notice. 'If I could somehow get it through that opening...'she thought as she began to inch her way to the opening without the demon noticing, blood pouring out down her fur onto the ground where the thorns scratched her.

"Now, listen up" he whispered as his eyes flashed. "I want you to tell you family that I'm back and much stronger than ever. Don't you dare tell True Heart that I saw her when she was helping those brats" he growled and snapped his fingers for a second time and a small, blood red diamond-shaped see-through ruby fragment appeared in the air next to the squirming rabbit, whose eyes went wide with horror.

It was one of the shards he trapped her and the other family member (aside from Noble Heart and True Heart) in for a short time. She shuddered remembering the penetrating coldness and darkness inside. "If you spill them my little secret,, you'll be the very first one to be tortured . Understand?" he glared at her, the vine covering over her mouth sliding away a bit in to order for her to answer the demon's question...

Now she was close enough to the tiny opening to send for help. "C-C-Care B-b-bear Call" she cried. She then let out a low growl as her tummy symbol glowed white and out of it came a thin beam of white light with blue music notes. It escaped into the sky, where it exploded like a small firecracker.

"HELP -"she began to yell but the shape shifter's eyes flashed again. The non-thorny vine came back up over Swift Heart's mouth and at the same time more barbed vines came out of nowhere and snaked themselves around her small body, especially her stomach, the thorns digging deep into her skin and blood spilled out. The vines twisted and tightened like this until she couldn't even budge and the white light that was coming from her tummy symbol was forced back and disappeared. 'I can't break through. He's too strong

as if he read her thoughts, the demon laughed as he snapped his fingers for a third time and the crystal shard disappeared into the air. "Silly rabbit tricks are for humans. Do you think that will help you now? I told you, I'm much stronger now." He smiled cruelly . "In fact, why don't I just take you with me now?"

She faintly heard Proud Heart and Loyal Heart's voices in the distance growing louder. I have to stall him' She tried to say ' You know you won't get away with this' through the vine gagging her but he just laughed.

"I already have, . By the time your family gets here it'll be too late then t one less bothersome care Bear to worry about. " She shuddered, then looked at Darkheart and her eyes went wide with horror . Reading her facial expression, the shapeshifter continued "I'll take you since you have seen me . you then become my valuable hostage . I'll torture you and utterly destroy your spirit first. Then your family will want to come and save you. Take a good look around 'because you won't see this ev-" he stopped mid sentence he had heard the two care bear cousins voices and judging from the sound they were a few feet away. Swift Heart silently thanked the Great Wishing Star and the wind which had carried their voices ." Rats "

he snapped his fingers yet again. the vines binding the rabbit disappeared into the ground, dropping .her to the ground. He changed back into the red fog. "Don't think you've seen the last of me, Swift Heart. I'll be back. I promise the next time we meet , you're mine there won't be anyone around to save your fur. I won't forget my promise ." He hissed in a low voice. she blinked a few times and he was gone right as Proud Heart and Loyal Heart came out of the forest.

"Swift Heart! Swifty are you okay" Loyal heart's voice seemed far away and her surroindings blurred together as the color drained from her face., Whether from the shock of seeing their supposed-defeated foe back, the torture he put her though or her injuries .. she felt as weak asa newborn kit and she fainted right as they reached her . . The last thing on her mind was ' I thought we turned him good

...

"Swift Heart!" Proud Heart came over to the rabbit's limp form. "She's fainted and bleeding , how did she get all these cuts on her fur?"

"I d-dunno. She didn't have them beforehand, something must have attacked her we came here as fast as we could when we saw her Call in the air" Loyal heart told the cat. "Something or someone tried to hurt her. Proud Heart" he turned to her. "We can't panic."

She nodded. "That wouldn't be good because what if whatever attacked her comes back to finish the job? We need to get her to Take Care right away."

"Right. But we can't leave her like this"

" no we can't. If only we could reach noble heart..."

It hit them both at the same time. "her Heartphone!" They both said at the same time, blushing for a few minutes.

"Uh, you do it, Proud Heart", Loyal Heart said, noticing two star buddies around the fainted rabbit, tapping her fur with their arms and looking concerned that she was not responding. "I'm going to talk to the little star buddies and see if they can help us"

The cat nodded and as the blue dog went over to the star buddies were, she got her own Heartphone out of a little pouch she carried around her waist and turned it on. She dialed Noble Heart's number and waited for it to connect. The face of the kind co-founder of the Care Bear Family appeared on the screen.

"Hello Proud-"

She cut right to the chase. "Noble Heart. Swift Heart's fainted in the Forest of Feelings, near the Rainbow River ." She told him

He looked shocked . "What happened?"

"We- th-that is to say Loyal Heart and i- don't know. We were going to have lunch with her- - and we were talking in the forest and saw her Call in the air. We got here and she had all these bleeding cuts on her body and she was paler than norman "

" Someone will be there shortly, Proud Heart." He told her. "You and Loyal Heart stay calm, Noble Heart out".

The screen went blank. Proud Heart put her Heartphone away and noticed that there was only one star buddy now. She went over to Loyal Heart who was sitting next to the star buddy, who was looking really sad, and sat down next to them. She looked over at him.

"The other star buddy went to help them find our location." He explained. "So we just wait."

Proud Heart nodded, trying not to look at her injured friend. "Yeah.."

Loyal Heart knew they needed a distraction to keep their minds occupied . He thought about what Swift Heart had told him and brought all his courage up . " Um Proud Heart?" He asked after a few minutes.

"Hmm?"

"I wanna ask you something. " He took a deep breath. " We've been best friends since Noble Heart and True Heart first rescued us right? " She nodded. The blue dog could feel his face redden as he stumbled over his words "Even th-though you're a cat and I'm a d-dog and t-t-total opposites, we seem to find each other company's welcoming. We're really good friends but what i-if we uh. we…" He trailed off. and looked down at his paws .

Proud Heart smiled and blushed herself. She had an idea of what he was trying to say-for she had a crush on him herself. " We became more that just purr-fectly best friends and started dating ?" He looked up at her words. "That's that you were trying to ask me , right Loyal?" She finished.

He nodded. "Y-Yeah.. Sorry if i muffed it up . I .. just get so tongue- tied wh-when I try to get the courage to ask. I was trying to use the advice Swift Heart gave me . She's really good at this stuff. " He gazed briefly at his friend's unconscious form for a few seconds-Proud Heart followed it. He then turned back his eyes back to her. "I mean would you want to date me?"

Proud Heart giggled. " Here's my purr-fect answer to that. " She kissed him on both sides of his cheeks and then on the lips for a minute or two .

Loyal Heart felt like he was in a daze- he felt both lighter than a Cloudmobile and like a big surge of electricity was running through his body at the sensation.

When their lips parted all he could say was, " Wow.. just wow. Uh Great response. " He sighed . " I wish Swift could have seen that .."

They both looked down at the injured blue rabbit as they heard a Cloudmobile coming closer. There was only one thought on both their minds: who or what did this to her?

Author's notes: Don't you just love ending a chapter on cliffhanger ? That's a joke- I know no one really likes reading them. Fear not the next part is coming soon. Don't worry Swift Heart fans; she'll be okay. She's very vital to the plot - I wouldn't dream of killing off one of the big characters . Well I kind of did that for my two parter but everything turned out good in the end.
