"Ugh! I keep getting blamed for the things I do!" Daisy exclaimed in a huff as she collapsed onto the common room couch next to Fitz.
Fitz hit the pause button on the controller for the video game that he was playing, and looked over at the inhuman who was now all sprawled out in the spot that his wife had priorly been sitting in up until she had got up to go make tea for both of them a few minutes earlier.
"In trouble with Coulson again?" he asked, reaching over and scratching the top of Daisy's head much like one would a cat.
Daisy purred and nudged her head against his hand much like a cat would, before grousing, "It's so stupid. Make one little, tiny error and you're benched 'until you learn when you should and shouldn't use your powers, and how strongly'. Like we haven't all made mistakes here and there. I mean, you cut half my neck off and were back in the field in just a couple days."
"And just how big of a building did you bring down?" came a conversational English female voice walking into the room. As Simmons handed her husband a cup of tea, Daisy a beer, and kept the second cup of tea for herself, she continued on, "And when Fitz removed your inhibitor, the only reason he was out in a couple days against your direct orders was because I committed treason against you as the acting Director by breaking him out."
"Oh, yeah — you traitors," Daisy smirked back at where Simmons had sat down in the armchair to the side of the couch. "And it was just a small barn that was falling in anyway, would have practically done the same thing on its own in the next ten years."
"Daisy, Daisy, Daisy," Simmons sighed with a shake of her head. "What are we going to do with you?"
"I can think of one thing that would absolutely positively definitely make me think twice before I did any such thing again, probably," Daisy said very seriously as she spun onto her back and laid her head in Fitz's lap, keeping her eyes on Simmons as best she could the whole time.
But Simmons had far too much experience distinguishing between Daisy's 'mission and Director of Shield in Coulson's stead' seriousness and her 'I'm about to say something incredibly ridiculous and Daisy-like' seriousness, and this was definitely the latter.
So as Fitz resumed stroking the inhuman's long, flowing locks of brunette hair with blue streaks through it again, Simmons asked warily, "And what exactly would that be?"
"Snog me."
Simmons rolled her eyes at the inhuman, but Fitz nodded along seriously saying, "She's right, Jemma, that definitely would make her think twice before bringing down any more buildings," making Simmons roll her eyes a second time, at her husband this time.
"Yeah, cause she wants to be snogged," she retorted. "We need a punishment that will make her not bring down any more buildings, not encourage her to crack the planet in half."
"Then make that my punishment for not using my powers correctly," Daisy replied. "I don't get snogged if I do something bad."
"That would require you regularly getting snogged in the first place to have it removed," Simmons answered with a pointed look.
Fitz and Daisy looked down and up at each other respectively and shrugged in unison, before both looking over at Simmons and shrugging again.
"Works for me," Daisy said.
Now, for most married couples and their best friend this would have been a ridiculous suggestion, a joke, but for FitzSimmons and Daisy it wasn't. Because while FitzSimmons had merely been dating, during the times when Daisy wasn't off doing her own thing by herself having left the team for a while yet again, they had included Daisy with them in the physical side of the relationship to distract her from Lincoln's sacrifice and her own time under Hive's spell, and then to welcome her back to the team and show her that they at least completely forgave her for running off yet again. But then the future had happened, and FitzSimmons had gone and got engaged on their own, and after they had got back FitzSimmons had gone ahead and got married while there was a free moment of the world not ending and a forest deep underground, and then Fitz had chopped Daisy's neck off shortly after that, so with all that combined with FitzSimmons actually being married and not simply dating anymore, they had never resumed their throuple or even talked about it again, FitzSimmons too busy being married to each other to think of it much, and Daisy not wanting to intrude upon FitzSimmons' perfect marriage with her hot mess.
Most of which was running through Simmons' mind as she thoughtfully answered Daisy (and Fitz by extension), "Well, we did used to play with you. But honestly, I don't think that's going to stop you from getting in trouble — it never used to."
"Ehh, no, probably not," Daisy replied with an indifferent shrug. "But then it's at least your problem by association as well."
"Pretty sure you destroying buildings and splitting the earth in half is entirely on you," Simmons said with yet another roll of her eyes — they were going to get stuck that way if these two didn't stop saying such ridiculous things soon. Maybe that's really why they had never brought the American back into their relationship, for Simmons' eye health — no, just as friends she still had to roll her eyes at the other woman way too often to be healthy.
"Hey, now — Fitz died so that last one wouldn't happen," Daisy said.
"Yeah, yeah, don't remind me," Fitz said. "But getting back on topic, why don't we bring Daisy back in? She's single, we're the same amount of couple as we were back when we had her around, and so it probably won't stop her from Daisying, but that's no reason not to bring it all back just for its own sake, separate from any quaking catastrophes."
"Did you just use my name as verb?" Daisy asked in disbelief. "I love it!"
Simmons meanwhile was ignoring the inhuman very hard so that she wouldn't roll her eyes at her yet again, and answered her husband with her own question of, "But what kind of relationship are we talking about here? Back then we at least said that it was just physical, fun or distraction or good for Daisy and something new and exciting and different for us. And that was good for then, what worked well for all of us at the time. But now you and I are married, Fitz, so I'm not sure 'plaything' is right anymore. But I don't know how serious you're looking for, Daisy. I'm certainly not saying no to this — now that it's been brought up again I'd actually like it to happen again, you were fun to have, Daisy — but I want it to be right for now if we do it."
"You're saying proper girlfriend, with the same purpose as any normal couple, as you and I were the whole time even if we were pretty much predestined by twelve years of best friendship and lab partnership and the fact we were already going to spend the rest of our lives together and retire to a Perthshire cottage you saw as a girl on holiday once before we realized we were head over heels in love with each other," Fitz replied, highly experienced in understanding what his wife was actually saying, or also saying beyond what she actually said out loud. Looking down at Daisy still lying with her head in his lap where he was still running his fingers through her hair and lightly scratching her scalp, he asked her, "What are your thoughts? This is more about you than us right now."
"You really want me? As a possible wife one day?" Daisy asked in slight disbelief as she looked back up at Fitz, though she was really talking to both of them. "I mean, it's one thing to make out with and have sex with your best friend for fun because she brings in a lot of energy and humor when she's not being a complete drama queen, but I'm still me, the girl who's left you and the team at large twice already, and locked you in a cell. Are you really willing to put up with that forever?"
"You're already our best friend for life, and we're the ones who have always dealt with whatever new issues you were going through at the moment," Simmons replied. " 'Putting up' with you is our other job description besides running the lab and being field agents beside you. But seriously, you're ours, Daisy. Our headache sometimes, true, but your our headache and we would never have it any other way. So yes, we really are willing to put up with you forever."
"Then sure," Daisy shrugged. "You know my life before you two — Miles, Ward, and then Lincoln. You're the only two who have haven't betrayed me or died on me and not come back. You two could do a lot better than me — you already are, you have each other — but I couldn't do any better than you two. So yeah, I'll properly date you and try not to screw everything up, just screw everything."
"Fitz will certainly help you with that," Simmons said. "But welcome back into our little family, Daisy Johnson. And no, we're not covering for you with Coulson for bringing down a building earlier today, nor will we try to talk him into letting you back into the field before he lets you especially since it will probably still only be a day or two since you're too good at your job, nor will we take you with us on any mission that we get sent on between now and then. Now Fitz, you may kiss the girlfriend."
Daisy quickly stuck her tongue out at Simmons for still refusing to cover for her, before wrapping one arm around Fitz's neck to help pull herself up to him and him down to her, as Fitz used his hand that had been stroking her hair to pull her head up to him as he leaned down as best he could, their lips meeting in the middle in their first kiss in a couple of years, and their first ever as a proper throuple.
