A/N: Welcome to this week's edition of "Starting a New Chapter". Today, we're getting a neat upgrade from an old pal at the mausoleum. What kinda mishaps await us there? Stay tuned!

(Liam's P.O.V)

We finally left that infuriating Die House behind us as we headed to the old Mausoleum.

It was a pretty interesting sight to see; it reminds me of old ruins you'd see in movies or a haunted area. The building was very old and there were tons of visible cracks all over. I could smell a dusty scent from inside and felt a cold air chill my spine.

I looked and Lex was interested in the stain-glass windows that surrounded the place. It appeared to have images of a chalice and…a butterfly?

"Wow, isn't this place beautiful…?" Lexie marveled, looking around her.

"Yeah, it sure is." I smiled. "Say, do you see that image of a butterfly on the stained glass window?"

"Yeah, that's what I'm looking at right now…kinda random if you ask me." She shrugged.

"That's interesting. Never seen anything like that before." Cuphead mentioned.

"Well, butterflies are symbolic for transformation and positive change." Charlie commented. "I should know, I am one."

"Very true." I smiled. "Okay, let's see what's inside."

We spread out looking for clues when I curiously looked at an urn in the middle of the room. This definitely felt like something out of Indiana Jones…oh, fun fact, I know my last name is Jones, but my mum used to call me her little Indy Jones, since I would be exploring ideas and places.

That, and I really don't like snakes. Don't take me to Snake Island. I will die.

"Okay, so that must be it." I stated. "Wonder what's inside…"

"What, an urn?" Lexie asked. "I dunno man, it might be someone's ashes or something."

Just then as we got closer, we heard a faint "Help! Help! Let me out!"

Lexie looked surprised as she uttered, "Okayyy, that's definitely not someone's ashes."

"Let's see if we can free her!" Charlie proclaimed.

Before we could open it, suddenly Mugman screamed. "GHOSTS!"

We looked and sure enough, several pink ghosts began to float towards us.

"Yikes!" I shouted.

Lexie ran to me and we bolted for cover, but she didn't look as scared as when she saw Dice.

Lexie must have noticed me looking kinda surprised, she arched an eyebrow, "What?"

"Oh, it's nothing. You don't seem as terrified of the ghosts." I mentioned.

Lexie shrugged as she responded, "I mean, I did have to deal with the literal Devil, who's technically a spirit creature himself. I'm kinda not phased at this point."

"That's true." I nodded. "But, I'm glad you're doing really well. I know this is a bit crazy, trust me I'm still trying to wrap my mind around this whole thing, but you're doing a really great job."

Lexie gave me a warm smile as she hugged me. "You're doing great yourself, just by being there. I'm sorry you guys got dragged into this, but you'll get somewhat used to it with time. Heck, I'm still not used to some things."

"Hey, not all the superheroes in the universe would be prepared for their first adventure." I claimed. "I'm pretty sure Mario and Link were nervous doing this and had to think through a lot to understand what's happening. It's not everyday someone is rescuing a princess or saving the kingdom of Hyrule."

"Very true."

Just when we were having another "lost in time" moment, Cuphead called to us "Uh, Lex, Liam. We got them."

"Oh uh…right."

We got up and walked to the urn. Well, it was empty now, and out of it, a bright light. It flew around the room for a second before it transformed into a figure.

"Whoaa…" Charlie marveled.

What appeared to us was an anthropomorphic chalice with a gold coloring and a blue body. And she was wearing a ton of makeup, but it looked like Lexie recognized her.

"Chalice…?" She uttered in slight confusion.

"Wait, you've met her already?" I asked.

"Yeah, she was one of the ones that helped Josh and the others before the Devil could marry Audie. Erm, long story, don't wanna get into it."

"Gotcha." I winked.

After a quick smile, Lexie turned to the figure, "Is that you, Chalice?"

"Oh my stars! Lexie! So good to see ya!" Chalice beamed.

Then she gasped as she added "Wait, you're the new Scribbler?! Oh my gosh! That's awesome! Oh, I'm so glad she chose ya!"

"It's so good to see you too, Chal!" Lexie beamed, before frowning again, "How come you're in your spirit form? Didn't you have a mortal body?"

"Well, I do, but the magic around me doesn't allow me to change like you saw before." She explained. "I was looking for a way to become a mortal permanently and that's when I was trapped here."

"Oh, I see." Lexie nodded. "Well, we were told about the magical properties here so we just happened to be in the area."

"You thought right!" She beamed. "I can hook y'all up with some power-packing abilities that'll make any baddies run with their tails between their legs."

Lexie smirked as she asked, "Even King Dice?"

"Oh, I'm sure you can give that blockhead a run for his money." She giggled. "It should wipe that stupid smirk off his stupid face."

"If Lexie doesn't teach him a lesson, I'll be more than glad to give it to the bloke." I added, banging my knuckles a bit.

"Hmmm, say, I think I have a little something for you two." Chalice mentioned. "I know you're here as the scribbler and all, but you need to defend yourselves, especially against King Dice."

"And the Devil too." Mugman gulped. Cuphead rubbed his arms to comfort him, but I could still see the fear and worry on his face.

Poor guy. Hate to see him scared like that, especially against the literal Devil.

"Hey Mugs, it'll be okay." Lexie soothed, rubbing Mugman's back. "This story's happened before, and you guys beat him. You did it once, you can do it again."

He gave a weak smile and then replied "Thanks, Miss Lexie."

"Don't mention it." Lexie smiled.

I had to admit, I love the motherly affection Lexie gives the boys. She kinda reminds me how she interacts with Matt, my little brother. He never had a mother or a father growing up and honestly, I think Lexie shows him that motherly love he needs. She spoils him rotten, takes him to movies, and carnivals, and even played 5 hours of Mario Kart.

I wish I was lying about that last part.

"Liam?" I heard Lexie ask. "You okay?"

"Huh? Oh, yeah. I'm good." I replied. "I just, uh, lost my train of thought."

"Eh it happens." Lexie shrugged.

With a flick of her wrist, Chalice summoned a bright light that practically engulfed all four of us.

I gotta say, I felt kinda tingly and weird all over my body. But yet stronger. I looked across from me and I noticed the boys floating while their straws were floating around them.

Ah cartoon logic, where would we be without it?

After a bit, the tingling feeling stopped and the light vanished, brining us back to the inside of the Mausoleum.

Now here comes the million dollar question; how do I activate the super?

"I found this magic right at this spot…well, before I got caught by the ghosts. It just granted y'all special abilities."

"Sweet! This should help us a lot in battle!" Cuphead beamed.

"But, howddya activate it?" Lexie asked.

"Well, y'all remember that tingling feeling you felt before?" Chalice asked.

"Yeah?" Cuphead replied inquisitively.

"Well, it ain't gonna come super quick, but once you guys get into a rhythm, you'll feel it again and once you got that chance, use it for a powerful attack."

Oh, so in other words, build enough power to activate a special move like in Street Fighters.

Cool!

"Awesome! Any chance we know what these abilities are?" Lexie asked.

"It can depend, but I don't think I know what they are." She shrugged.

"Ah okay. Fair deal. " Lexie nodded before she sighed. "Well, we better get going. We got a deadline to meet. Thanks, Chalice!"

"No prob, girl!" Chalice giggled. "Kick that demonic freak into the next millennium."

"Oh trust me, we will. I'm about ready to punch Dumb and The Big Dumber into next week for all the crap they've pulled." Lexie announced, cracking her knuckles. " He nodded.

After bidding her farewell, we headed out of the Mausoleum and after going through the Die-house again, minus King Dice, we proceeded to the second Isel.

Who knows what adventures await for us there?

A/N: So looks like we got some magic! But what kind of abilities did we get? Only time will tell. In the meantime, stay tuned as we cross into the wacky Isle 2 in the next chapter of "Starting a New Chapter"!
