A/N: Man, it's been a HOT minute since I updated this story! You all thought I forgot or abandoned it, huh? Nope, I've just had a lot on my plate, from spiritual life, social life, and personal responsibilities. But here we are once again I appreciate your patience! Now let's make this chapter worth the wait. I'm not even going to spoil anything, let's get to it!
(Normal pov— Germany)
Stoick the Vast disembarked from his longship and set foot on dry land, after months of planning and preparations and after days at sea, finally, they had arrived at the Kingdom of Corona. Many tribes and kingdoms had come to participate in this raid, even some of Berk's piercest enemies, because of this, Stoick was left uneasy, however, Queen Una assured him that should any of Berk's enemies step out of line, whether they leave forces large enough to sack Berk, then she would unleash the full might of her armies down on them. As a sign of good faith, Queen Una left behind some of her finest warriors as a peacekeeping force to ensure Berk and those who weren't warriors were protected.
Now, the Chief of Berk wrapped the thick fur cloak around his hulking frame to keep the winds at bay as well as the spray of the sea while he was deep in thought. Ever since his people had bonded with dragons, Stoick had regretted how he treated the opinions and ideologies of his wife, Valka, and how he had his son, Hiccup, branded as a fugitive and could be killed by any Viking without consequence.
But now that Vikings had come to bond with dragons, Stoick wished he could have his wife and son by his side and leave their mark on Midgard as a family.
Sighing heavily, Stoick looked over his shoulder to see many of his fellow Hooligans offloading supplies from their ship and the ships that were making their landing, among them was his heir, Astrid Hofferson. Despite her supposed disinterest in his son, Stoick had seen how Astrid's eyes sparkled with adoration, wonder, and awe that his son had become the most famous Viking in their world over the last five years. He couldn't blame her, this was Hiccup, his disappointment of a son who had eclipsed all Vikings in his lifetime in five years. Despite the hardship and difficulties he had to raise Hiccup by himself, Stoick felt pride that his son had become a man on his own and forged his own path. He wondered what kind of man Hiccup had become over the last five years, Stoick snorted softly and knew that his son needed to be strong and ruthless to survive this cruel world, his mind conjured up images of his son being a cold, heartless person. But the traders, merchants, and foreigners who had stopped by Berk to sell their wares had told tales of how Hiccup would often save people from ruthless raiders and warlords.
"Odin's beard, I feel as though I've got icicles growing on my balls! In all seriousness, I never thought we Vikings would be away from our homelands into the great beyond and be raiders once again,"
Chuckling softly Stoick turned to a grinning Gobber, who too was wrapped in thick furs while scratching his chin softly with his hook. "None of us thought we would be doing this again, old friend," the Chief of Berk then exhaled heavily. "But here we are, sailing across the sea in the pursuit of fame and glory."
"You disapprove, do you?"
"We're Vikings, it's an occupational hazard," Stoick deadpanned. "No, my thoughts are focused on my family, Gobber."
"Ah," shifting uncomfortably, Gobber knew this was a sensitive topic, he then asked in a low voice. "Do you, uh, want to talk about it?"
Turning to the blacksmith, Stoick gave him a soft smile. "I just... I know I can be senseless and stubborn—"
"That's an understatement," Gobber's murmured statement caused Stoick to glare at him, but the blacksmith smiled. "Sorry, please, continue."
Rolling his eyes, Stoick continued. "I just wish that I stopped and tried to understand why Valka and Hiccup are so different," the Chief of Berk continued looking to the horizon. "None of us would like to admit it, but my family is the reason we Vikings now ride dragons. For Thor's sake, they might just very well be the reason we may secure a great victory during this raid!" Running his tongue along his chapped lips, Stoick then turned back to Gobber. "When the time for battle does come, I wish for us to send emissaries to find Hiccup and bring him into the fold."
"Stoick—"
"With his keen mind and prowess as a warrior and his Night Fury, we can conquer far and wide!"
"He's a skogarmaor, Stoick," Gobber once again stated, pity in his tone. "No man here will want to fight alongside an outlaw. And even if Hiccup sided with us, it would be short-lived; he's the most famous Viking of our lifetime, and men who kill him to secure their own reputation and claim his Night Fury as their own." The old blacksmith sighed heavily and placed his hand on Stoick's shoulder. "I want him by our side too, Stoick. That boy and I shared a deep bond, and his banishment from Berk is a loss I haven't fully recovered from."
"Yet another mistake I made," Stoick growled in regret. "I was blinded by tradition and didn't fully understand Hiccup's diversity and the genius of Vikings flying into battle on the backs of dragons."
"What's done is done, old friend. All we can do now is hope that Hiccup chooses not to stand in our way," Gobber then spoke grimly. "The last thing we need is for the two of you to meet face-to-face on the field of battle."
Grunting in agreement, Stoick looked back to the horizon and briefly dwelled on the prospect of facing his own son in battle. In the past, it would be laughable, but now it was no laughing matter; Hiccup was a battle-hardened warrior, bounty hunter, and mercenary, one that has defeated many warriors throughout the world.
"If it's the will of the gods, then so be it," Stoick's words caused Gobber to look at him as though he had grown a second head. "All I want is to make amends with my son, Gobber, that's why I came here. To stand before the man that Hiccup has become an attempt to make things right." Closing his eyes for but a moment, Stoick concluded softly. "And should Hiccup forgive me, forgive us, that would be more precious than gold or silver to me."
Humming softly, Gobber patted the chief's back. "Well, a man can dream, eh?" Stoick gave the blacksmith a look that said "that's not funny," causing Gobber to give him a sheepish grin. "Sorry. Bad choice of words." Stoick merely chuckled and nudged an elbow into Gobber's gut. Turning to Astrid and the other young riders, Gobber frowned before turning back to Stoick. "I'd keep a tight leash around that lot, especially Snotlout. After all, they did make his life miserable when he was a wee lad."
"Yes, I'm aware of that, Gobber. Even if some of them didn't participate in physically abusing him, standing by and doing nothing can leave a more serious wound," Stoick sighed heavily before turning to his newly chosen heir and her companions as they were offloading crates of food and weapons. "Astrid! You and others come here." Not needing to be told twice, the young Vikings stood before their chief and gave him their full attention. "This raid is the first the Viking people have conducted in centuries, although we have the element of surprise on our side as well as the advantage of flying dragons, our presence here will not remain secret for long. That's why we must look to Hiccup as a valuable piece on the game board."
"Pfft! We don't need him, uncle!" Snotlout exclaimed. "Why would we?"
Rolling his eyes, Fishlegs stated facts. "Because from what we've heard over the years, Hiccup knows these lands inside and out and he has a Night Fury!" Snotlout was about to remark, but Fishlegs cut him off. "If he's willing to forgive us, he could help this raid end without a great loss of life and we'll leave these lands with ships full of treasure."
"Thank you, Fishlegs," Stoick then continued. "Once the rest of our allies and... "acquaintances" land, Queen Una will summon the chiefs and the leaders of the respective Viking peoples gathered here and discuss our first plan of action. Once that happens, Astrid, I want you to take the riders and scout the land and see if you can find out anything about Hiccup's location or if he's even here."
"Consider it done," she then tilted her head in curiosity. "And... if he's here, what do you want us to do?"
"Do nothing. For now, I want to know if Hiccup is here. If he is here, follow him and see if he has made a home for himself here in these lands," Stoick then looked at the vast forest that was before them and continued. "Return to me, when you see any sign of him."
"You can count on us, Chief!" Tuffnut exclaimed.
"Yeah, we'll stick onto Hiccup like leeches and we won't let go until we've drained everything we need to know," Ruffnut added.
Astrid quickly spoke up. "We'll see this done, Chief," turning to her companions, Astrid barked out. "Let's go!" They each mounted their dragons and were soon in the air.
"If Hiccup finds out they're here, then he'll know we're here too," Gobber shrugged. "If he comes here to threaten us, what then?"
Turning to his old friend, Stoick remarked softly. "We talk and try to persuade him to join us," he then went to help his fellow Vikings offload supplies.
Gobber scoffed softly at Stoick's words as if it would simply persuade Berk's former heir to forget his life of peace and the happiness he's found and join those who made him miserable, and unloved, and cast him aside. "What could possibly go wrong?" The blacksmith murmured sarcastically before he too went to help his fellow Vikings set up their war camp.
(Bondsman Guild)
"Hey! Break it up, or you'll no longer be taking jobs here!"
Linus Hackl and his men were breaking up a bar brawl, and several bounty hunters who were after the same bounty began to fight viscously. Before blood should be spilled, the fight ended, Linus' threat of ending their employment at the Bondsman Guild got the bickering bounty hunters in line. Huffing in annoyance, Linus poured himself a cup of ale while his guards escorted the troublemakers out of his establishment. His business had made him a rich man, however, those who wanted to take up bounties were young, arrogant, and inexperienced; resulting in valuable clients seeking other bounty hunter guilds to employ more experienced hunters.
"Taking the edge off, eh?"
Looking up at his head guard, Linus snorted after taking a drink. "Aside from Haddock and a handful of others who keep my business afloat, this place attracts children pretending to be men," setting his cup down, he looked to the patrons and those in his employ. "The Bondsman Guild is the best establishment here in Corona, and if any more of these jesters take up bounties and can't get the job done, then those who pay for the bounty will pay someone else and look for hunters who are far more suitable and capable." Shaking his head, Linus groaned loudly. "Mark my words, Brutus, so long as Haddock is in my employ, clients who are ripe with coin will come here, seeking to employ that boy."
"Well, he never has failed a job,"
"My point exactly. Yes, we have had our fair share of bounty hunters and mercenaries that help this place afloat, but Haddock... hehe, oh, that boy has made this place shine brighter than the sun," Linus finished the rest of his ale before scoffing at the other hunters in his establishment. "I swear, these fools will be the end of me.
The doors open and all eyes turn to see Hiccup Haddock III and his Night Fury entering the establishment. By their side is the lost princess of Corona, Rapunzel, who is wearing gilded armor made of Gronckle Iron over her now white Dirndl dress that stops around her thighs, she wears dark pink leather pants and black boots with fur laced around them. Bluster was by Rapunzel's side, and the Singetail hissed at any bounty hunter eyeing her rider.
"Ah! Now here's a bounty hunter of professionalism and class!" Linus's boisterous praise caused the other bounty hunters to sneer and glare heatedly at the former heir of Berk. "Welcome back, my friend," turning to Rapunzel, he then gave Hiccup a curious look. "And who might your pretty friend be?"
Turning to his goddess of a girlfriend, Hiccup looked back to Linus and spoke in a bored tone. "She's Corona's lost princess," the establishment erupted in hushed whispers and murmurs, the bounty on her head was the highest throughout all of Europe, and anyone who delivered that bounty would be set for life. Hiccup then gestured to the unconscious form of Gothel who was chained on top of Bluster. "Corona's rulers get their daughter back and the fiend who kidnapped her as a babe. I completed the job. And now I'm here to tell you that I no longer wish to work for you."
A tense silence filled the air, Linus could feel his heart skip a beat as his best money maker was no longer going to make him rich. Chuckling in disbelief, Linus couldn't believe what he was hearing. The Dragon Rider, was no longer working for him? Surely the boy was in a state of delirium and didn't truly mean what he was saying, surely.
If he wasn't...
"You doubt me?"
"Of course I do," Linus let out an amused snort. "From the moment you and your dragon came through my doors, you were always eager to find the next bounty. And here you are, deciding that your time working for me is at an end." Chuckling, he then reached for Hiccup, but Toothless growled lowly in warning, causing Linus to retract his hand. Seeing the boy's stern, stoic face, Linus realized that Hiccup wasn't playing around.
Narrowing his eyes at the man before him, Hiccup spoke in a low tone. "You speak as though I'm your slave," taking a step forward, the young bounty hunter didn't flinch when Brutus and Linus' guards stood by their benefactor. "Are you implying that I'm your slave, Linus?"
"No—"
"Good, because I'm not your slave, I never was and I never will be," pointing a finger in his face, Hiccup continued. "Being a bounty hunter and mercenary was all a means to an end; after I make enough coin, I can then return home and settle down, perhaps find a woman to start a family of my own and live in peace, and I've made enough wealth to live comfortably, plus the reward I'll gain from delivering the lost princess back to her parents and the woman who kidnapped her will make me set for life." Noting the jealousy and distaste from the other patrons and bounty hunters gathered, Hiccup smirked. "I wish I could say it was a pleasure working with most of you, but it never is. Instead of sitting there and glaring at me, I suggest you help Linus keep this place in business." Placing a hand on Rapunzel's back, he silently urged her to follow him, before the couple and their dragons could leave, however, they were stopped by several bounty hunters.
"Hiccup?"
Glaring at the hunters in front of them, Hiccup placed a hand on top of Inferno. "If you value your lives, step aside—"
"Or what, Dragon Rider?" One of the hunters standing in his way challenged. "If you haven't noticed, you, the girl, and your filthy reptiles are outnumbered." Many of the hunters and mercenaries who were seated suddenly rose and had weapons drawn. Both Toothless and Bluster snarled menacingly while preparing to incinerate anyone who dared to attack.
"I like those odds," Hiccup smirked.
Chuckling, the bounty hunter before Hiccup nodded. "That arrogance," drawing a sword strapped behind their back, the hunter inspected the edge of his blade before eyeing Hiccup with a smirk of his own. "I wonder if you would still show off that arrogance without the aid of your dragon." Those that stood by the door moved closer to Hiccup, the Viking held a hand out when Toothless snarled menacingly.
"I don't need my dragon to kill you, or the fools who follow you,"
Getting right in Hiccup's face, the hunter standing in front of the door spoke what his fellow compatriots were thinking. "No wonder all the jobs that would help us hone our skills are all gone. You've taken them all, and the bounties you've collected have made you a rich bugger," eyeing Rapunzel, the hunter then looked back at Hiccup with sneered lips. "Now you're going to collect the biggest bounty in the whole of Europe? No. You won't be claiming that reward." Exclaims of agreement filled the air and many more of the ignorant and foolish bounty hunters who were not entirely enlightened on what Hiccup was capable of surrounded him, Rapunzel, and their dragons.
"Hey, if you're going to fight, take it outside, will you!" Linus barked out.
Hiccup smirked before sizing up the hunter standing in his way. "I'd rather not kill anyone of you, but if you're stupid enough to put me to the test, it'll be the last thing you ever do in your pathetic life." Pressing Inferno against the hunter's chest, Hiccup leaned in and seethed. "Move. Aside." His chilling words caused the hunters to share a look, and to Hiccup's surprise, they complied, moving aside. Pushing the hunters away, Hiccup and Rapunzel walked out of the establishment while their dragons scared off anyone attempting to plunge a knife in their rider's backs.
Rapunzel suddenly gasped in horror. "Hiccup!" She shoved him violently to the side just as an axe whirled between the two of them but would've struck Hiccup in the back. Roaring in outrage, Toothless fired a plasma blast at that hunter's chest, killing them instantly. The rest of the establishment roared as they sought to overwhelm the couple and their dragons. Only a handful of men surrounded Rapunzel, believing she would be little to no threat, however, that was far from the truth. The hunters surrounding her were suddenly lifted off of the ground by golden tresses, like tendrils belonging to a deep sea leviathan. Grunting in concentration, Rapunzel smacked the bounty hunters around like a child playing with their toys. She would then use these men like a knight would when wielding a flail, battering those rushing her or trying to sneak up on Hiccup while he was busy fighting.
"What devilry is this?!"
"How is she doing that?"
"Forget that, she's a girl, take her!"
Whirling around, Rapunzel used one of her ensnared attackers as a body shield when a mercenary tried to bash the back of her head with a shield. Bluster swooped in to bite that merc in the side before hurling them at another aggressor. Now on her hind legs, Bluster unleashed a wave of fire from her underbelly, burning alive many before she turned to see archers raising bows at her head. Snarling, the Singetail released a blast of fire at the ground, sending the archers flying. Flapping her wings violently to knock the approaching hunters off of their feet, Bluster soon took to the sky and flew over them while releasing another torrent of fire from her underbelly, the hunters experiencing Bluster's wrath wailed out in agony as they burned.
Hiccup and Toothless were dealing with the majority of the establishment's hunters and mercenaries, anyone who had a score to settle, those who were consumed by petty jealousy, or those who simply wanted to take out the most famous warrior for hire in Europe. By no means were these two strangers to having to deal with those who wanted to put them to the test, but this was different, not only did these fools want to kill him, but they also planned on taking Rapunzel from him, the woman he had opened his heart to and fell in love with.
He refused to die to these scum just so that they could balm their pride.
Whirling Inferno over his head, Hiccup brought his blade down, splitting an opponent's head in half. Ducking underneath an axe, the young Viking landed a precise kick to his next attacker's leg, breaking it. Toothless wrapped his jaws around that attacker's throat, the hunter screaming in agony as the Night Fury's teeth pierced flesh and bone until the dragon flung him aside before moving in the blink of an eye to knock away several attackers and then firing a plasma bolt at the feet of over a dozen hunters with weapons in hand, sending them all flying.
Seizing the man who tested him in the establishment by the throat, Hiccup ran him through with Inferno. The sounds of the hunter's agonizing cries and the sizzling of flesh being seared filled Hiccup's ears as he then grabbed the hunter by the back of his head and murmured in his ear. "You shouldn't have tested me," he then spilled the hunter's guts open, groaning loudly in disgust as blood and innards soaked his boots. The remaining hunters stopped when Hiccup turned to them and gestured to their dead, mutilated companions. "Anyone else?" These overeager bounty hunters were left speechless after witnessing Hiccup and Toothless kill their own effortlessly, and they knew that if they continued to provoke the deadly duo, their deaths would be... spectacular.
"Fine, you want the girl, take her," another low-life scoffed. "It's not worth my life trying to best someone of your prowess."
"Smart man," Hiccup narrowed his eyes at the others. "You want to make your fortunes? Earn it! Otherwise, I suggest you boys return to your mother's and stop playing like men who know how to kill." Some took a step forward, but Toothless stood on his hind legs, his wings spread, and unleashed a menacing roar, scaring them off.
"Hiccup?"
Turning around to Rapunzel, the Viking placed a hand on the back of his girlfriend's nape and caressed her flawless skin softly. "I'm fine," he reassured her. Eyeing her from head to toe, he chuckled softly. "I guess the same goes for you. Granted, Bluster did most of the heavy lifting for you." Extending a hand, Hiccup smiled when the Singetail pressed her snot into his palm before nuzzling into Rapunzel's side. Caressing her dragon's head, the blond beauty looked back at her boyfriend and gasped softly as he leaned in to whisper against her ear. "Are you ready to go home?" She nodded and mounted Bluster, waiting for Hiccup.
Before the Viking forgot, he reached for Gothel, who was unconscious and stashed in a nearby horse trough. "Wouldn't want you to miss your well-earned execution, now would we?" After placing his girlfriend's kidnapper on Toothless' back, he then mounted up. Hiccup looked to Linus whose face was etched in horror at the sight of so many hunters and mercenaries dead, burned to an unrecognizable crisp, or mutilated. "Sorry about the mess," Hiccup said in a bored tone before turning to Rapunzel and nodding at her. The couple soon took to the sky, off to meet with Corona's rulers.
A hooded bounty hunter who had witnessed the fight watched as the couple flew off before turning to an acquaintance. "Looks like you were right. That Viking does have my mother," the hooded hunter turned to Ripper who had a smug grin on his face. "He's going to collect the reward for my mother's death, isn't he?"
"What do you think?"
Removing their hood, the bounty hunter was a beautiful young woman with short ebony hair, and piercing green eyes and she was wearing gleaming grey armor with gold and crimson outlines, dark brown leggings, and black leather boots. A dagger was tucked in one of her boots and a sword was strapped to her hip, along with a purse that held coin.
"I think I'll ruin Haddock's day and get my mother back,"
Snorting, Ripper gestured to the mutilated corpses of the bounty hunters he and Toothless had dealt with. "I hold no love for Haddock, but I admire his... savagery in a fight," he then snickered. "You don't stand a chance against him, Cassandra."
Glaring at her unpleasant companion, the ebony-haired bounty hunter summoned her own dragon, Moondust, whose species was a Dreamwing, one of the dragons that had been killed off years ago because of the power they had to grant wishes. Now the last of her kind, Moondust harbored a great distaste towards humans, however, Cassandra was not like other humans, hence the reason she had bonded with her. Once the dragon was by Cassandra's side, the young woman mounted her dragon's back and prepared to take off, only to be stopped when Ripper cleared his throat.
"You're really going after Haddock alone?"
"Flynn Rider and the Stabington Brothers are in the royal city. After their humiliating run-in with Haddock and the lost princess in Constantinople, they'll be eager to prove themselves," Cassandra then gave the deranged bounty hunter a sweet smile. "There. I'm not alone." Her smile was gone and was replaced with a stern look as she urged Moondust to take to the sky.
Shaking his head, Ripper took his leave and was ready to look for another job. Who knows, maybe he would get lucky and secure a job that would involve killing Hiccup Haddock.
(Corona Palace)
King Frederic and Queen Arianna were in their throne room, concluding business with one of their trade partners and discussing fair prices for securing more food after the winter months. With spring now upon them, their citizens were in need of more provisions, as were their food stores. Thankfully, Corona's rulers were able to secure a fair price to have their stores stacked high with grain and other provisions to provide for the people of their kingdom, peasant or otherwise.
Suddenly, the doors opened, revealing one of the palace guards, noting that their guard was breathless, both rulers urged him to regain himself before delivering whatever he had to say. Once the guard had caught his breath, he informed both rulers that the bounty hunter, Hiccup Haddock, and his Night Fury had returned, and by their side was a beautiful young woman with long, golden hair and dazzling green eyes. Both rulers bolted out of the throne room and raced to the palace balcony that overlooked their kingdom.
Once outside, the rulers of Corona saw the young hunter they had hired and a striking young woman by his side. When they made their presence known to the young couple, Rapunzel stepped forward and stopped still as her true mother approached. Arianna recalled the beautiful babe she once held, and tears threatened to stream down her face as that same babe was now a strong young woman. Throwing her arms around her daughter, Arianna sobbed in joy, Rapunzel did as well and she eagerly returned her mother's embrace. Peering up at her father with tear-stained eyes, Rapunzel could see both relief and joy in Frederic's eyes and face as he wrapped his arms around his daughter as well.
Hiccup smiled at the sight, Toothless cocked his head while letting out a cheerful croon. These noble rulers had lost their only child because of Gothel's greed and desire to remain young and healthy, even if it meant hurting others. Seeing Rapunzel being showered with love from her parents made Hiccup's heart swell, he himself never had such affection, all he knew was pain and suffering. But in a way, all that he had been through had led him here, and Hiccup was glad.
Eventually, both of Corona's rulers turned to Hiccup, who kept a respectful distance and allowed them to share this joyous reunion with their daughter. Frederic then approached and placed his hands on the Viking's shoulders. "I did not dare believe it when I heard the news from our guard. But you found our daughter and the fiend who took her from us," giving the young man a smile, Frederic then gave him a firm nod. "Name your price, Hiccup Haddock, anything you desire, and it will be yours. You have my word."
"Anything?"
"Anything. You need only speak it."
Turning to Rapunzel, the young Viking saw her looking at him with a curious gaze, wondering what he would want as his reward for returning her back to her true parents and her home. In the past, Hiccup would've simply taken the reward of coin for his services, but the time he spent with Rapunzel made Hiccup realize that he wanted her and no other woman. Yes, she was a princess and he was... a banished wanderer and former heir to barbarians, but Hiccup had grown very fond of Rapunzel, and he wasn't ready to let her go.
"Sir, the time I spent with your daughter has been nothing short of amazing. When I look at her, I see the purity of mankind, and I'm not ready to part from her radiant light," licking his lips, Hiccup spoke his desires. "With your permission, sir, I wish to be with your daughter. You have my word that I will see her cared for and that she's capable of defending herself from those who would attempt to wrest her from your loving embrace."
Frederic's eyes widened in surprise, he certainly wasn't expecting this. Arianna too seemed genuinely surprised by the young man's words. Rapunzel, however, was beaming, and her smile made Hiccup's stomach flip excitedly, but he also gave her a hopeful look, hoping that his feelings weren't one-sided, even though he knew otherwise.
"Are your feelings reciprocal, Rapunzel?" Arianna wondered. "Do you want this man to be your husband?"
Approaching Hiccup, the princess took his hands in her own and turned back to her parents with a smile. "Yes. I want to spend my life with Hiccup," giving both rulers a hopeful look, Rapunzel added. "Give him a chance, once you get to know him, you'll find out that he's an incredible man."
Both Frederic and Arianna were well aware that Hiccup was branded as an outlaw in Norway all because he bonded with a dragon, and they heard of the cruelty he suffered from his own people all because of his diversity. This black sheep to the Viking people had brought their daughter home and brought the kidnapper to face punishment for abducting the princess. Because of Hiccup Haddock, the current rulers of Corona would see their bloodline thrive and their kingdom prosper. The king had made up his mind, however, he turned to his wife. Arianna only smiled, giving Frederic a nod, silently telling him to make their daughter happy by taking Hiccup into their home and making him their son.
"Hiccup Haddock III, because you have made our family whole once again, I name you a Son of Corona," smiling, Frederic continued. "I give you my blessing to wed my daughter. You are now a part of our family."
Squealing in euphoria, Rapunzel wrapped her arms around Hiccup. Chuckling, the Viking returned her embrace, resting his chin on top of Rapunzel's head. Even though he didn't show his immense joy outwardly, he was crying out inwardly; finally, he had found someone who loved him for who he was and being welcomed into the arms of his woman's parents as their son.
For the first time in a very long time, Hiccup felt he was at peace.
