In a bright apartment room next to a window with a clear blue sky peering in. A woman and a child are at a small table in a worn down room. These two do not have much, but both are happy being together in this place.

"Happy birthday Riley!" A familiar and cheerful voice shouts at her.

Riley thinks, 'I remember this moment, I remember her…' Riley looks up to see a young woman's silhouette full of life and joy. It is this woman who made her the way she was, this woman who gave her life. Riley can't distinguish her shape or make out what she looked like but she knows her voice. She burst into tears and went to hug her. But she goes through her, the child at the table looks familiar as well but she can't distinguish the silhouette's features.

The woman excitedly shouts, "Make a wish and blow out the candles! I can't believe you're already 7 this year!" her mother is the same as she was so long ago, cheerful. Young Riley closes her eyes to make a wish. Older Riley closes her eyes and hears her younger self say, 'I wish I had a lifelong friend'. Then young Riley blows out the candles and her mother claps. Then she pulls a small box from under the table, "it's all I could afford, I know it's popular with kids your age."

Riley eagerly takes the box and rips it open, "kyu…" Older Riley mutters under her breath.

Inside is a familiar device with, 'digital monster' written on it. The device was one of the first hundred to be developed and sold. Her mother must have waited a long time to buy this. Young Riley hugs her mother again, "thank you mother! With this, I'll be the strongest tamer ever!"

Suddenly her mother looked at her, "Riley…" A noise screeches and buzzes in her hand, older Riley looks down to see the broken shell of the Digital Monster Device. A familiar voice can be heard from the device, "Rei… It's time to go back." When she looks back up, the room is empty now.

The device glows and Riley looks at it, "Kyu? Is that you?"

The device in her hand with Kyu's voice says, "We discovered our goals, but I never understood our youth. We were innocent, young and foolish. Together we played, together we fell. Time we will never get back. Even if you forget the past, even if you remember only a bit. I am here now Riley, your life long friend."

Everything scrambles around her, a year of her life passes. She witnesses the time after she became eight, her mother fainted at work. The doctor told her at first it was just exhaustion but months passed by and her mother started to look sickly and weak. The next time they went, a new doctor told her she had cancer. It had spread too far and too fast by time they found it. With nothing that could be done, months went by; When Riley turned nine her mother didn't get out of bed one day and that day when Riley came home from school the people from the hospital came for her. They told her she only had a few more days at best.

During the last few days, Riley was at the end of the bed; Her mother's organs quickly shut down each day. And each day her mother opened her eyes less and less. Then…

"Riley," her mother called, Riley went over to her mother who was breathing heavily and clinging to life. Her mother reached her hand out towards her, "I want to live… " Her mother stopped breathing and her arm went limp.

"Mother…"

Rei can hear the familiar dull, robotic voice… she shouts at it, "What are you?"

Inquiry.

Rei asks once more, What is your inquiry?"

The voice goes silent. "Where is everyone?"

Elsewhere.

"Then where am I?"

Unknown.

"Why are you making me re-live these memories?"

Rei face palms, "Life Blood?"

Starting….

Hospital door opens an average height dark skinned man enters, he opens his palm reaching out to pull her away. Suddenly she felt fear strike her down, this man did horrible things to her. Riley can feel the discomfort and panic surge, he was a bad thing. Riley's memories started to distort, the man looked more like a dark monster than a man. In the man's hand is a dented metal bat, right then she remembers who he is.

Memories flooded into her, the nights she starved, the nights she was beaten because he was drunk, the nights she hoped she wouldn't be sold because of his outstanding debt. He forced her to work day and night in his car shop, there was nowhere else to go in the dark pits that was the 'bottom'. She could not go back. This monster brought her into this world, her father.

Rei can only look wide eyed at the man who came towards her, she looks around for a way out. But there was no where left to go. The room is a dead end. The inevitable path she will have to go down is right in front of her, the monter's hand grabs her arm. She desperately tries to wake her mother up again resisting the pull, "Mother! Mother! Please wake up!"

She hoped that, by some miracle she'd wake up. "Please wake her up! Please!"

The robotic voice, 'This is how you remember them. There is no way out.'

The man drags her out as she holds onto dear life, "I refuse to leave with this monster! Take me back! Take me back!"

'No.'

Rei thinks of a way out as the man drags her through the hospital and to a dingy, nasty car. But, there is no other way. The car starts when she thrown into it. The car reeks of unhappiness, bitterness and failure. Riley can feel the fear and pain enter her heart. She then remembers her mother reaching out, and her final words. Riley cries in the car as it drives away.

Kyu calls out to her, "Riley …", it was a quiet voice that she couldn't hear over her distress. The car takes her to an old, dilapidated house. It was filled to the brim with bullet holes and cracks, the house hadn't seen many good days and Rei knew it. The windows were barred with rusty cast iron like the jail she spent most of her days behind. This was her past, locked behind those bars with no future in sight, days that whittled away into meaningless memories. The only light in her life was the fact she left each day for school, and stayed away as long as she could before the sun fell down.

The car door opens and she's pushed out of it, the monster was not in sight. The care disappeared as well and she is left to stare at her worse nightmare come true.

"Kyu…"

A quiet voice calls from her pocket, "Riley!"

Kyu speaks from the device, "Rei… it's going to be alright. Things are hard now… but they won't be forever. Remember, one day you are going to marry a guy and have kids. Then we are going to play again, got that? I'll still be with you, even when I'm not there anymore. I'm always going to be here with you, as long as you remember me."

Rei's tears fall from her eyes, "You… have always been right by my side. I'm scared Kyu… He's going to…"

Kyu says, "I know… Just remember, we are going to be together. I'm with you!"

Rei takes a deep breath in and exhales out. She looks at the splintered door with bullet holes near the lock. Each step she takes reminds her how scared she was to see him, many called that person scum others called him a no good alcoholic. Riley refuses to give him a name, he was and always will be nothing to her now. When she turned the knob and entered the house she walked down a long path with memories playing ahead of her.

She could hear his voice, "This is my three hundred dollar bat, I got off a friend…" He showed it to her, "Do you know what three hundred dollars feel like?" Riley looked away before hearing a whack and her screaming. She could feel the pain radiate on her back legs. "Be a good kid, you won't have to see three hundred dollars again".

Another memory further down shows when her father left with some women, men broke into the house and ransacked it. She didn't know who they were, but one of them spotted her and she ran into her father's nasty closet and found the gun in his shoe box. Kyu shouted at the stranger, "Hey go away!". The man figured out Kyu and picked him up, Kyu taunted the man, "Hey you have a poo poo head! And you look like Poo too! Go back to the toilet, monster!" The man dropped Kyu on the ground and was about to stomp on him. Riley aimed and… *Bang* the rest of the memory is blurred.

'I… I'm glad I blocked that out…" She shivers.

The next memory, she sees the first time she met Tomoki at a Local Digimon tournament. He was a short, spoiled, rich brat with a special device with two partners instead of one. She and he were the last two finalist in the match, Kyu at the time was a saberleomon against wargreymon and metalgarurumon. She remembers clearly him saying, "Go back to the gutter trash cat." As both of his Digimon jogressed into omegamon. She took that insult very personally and yelled, "Kyu! You can do it! Show them what determination is about!"

At that moment the device let off a glimmer of light and Saberleomon became Bancholeomon, evaporating the both back into their digitama stage. She was so proud of Kyu, that day she achieved her dream of being the toughest tamer around.

However, this made Tomoki become strangely obsessed with stalking her. He would show up around her home sometimes throwing bricks at her window and tormenting her at school with Anakai. Until one day he took Kyu from her and played monkey in the middle with her. He had tossed it to Anakai who tossed it back at Tomoki who ran into the street trying to catch the device. But a truck was barreling through, and she tackled him hard onto the sidewalk. She saved him but Kyu got ran over by the truck and the device was badly damaged.

The days afterwards became horribly lonely and cold, but Tomoki became much nicer to her. Then a few days later Kyu recovered after Anakai attempted to fix her device, but the data was corrupted. She kept the device talking to it every day for months. Tomoki became a decent person and Anakai wasn't bad either. She became friends with them both, eventually meeting Cain and Abe with Sumati a later day. She kept the device with her wherever she went, until one night she saw a shooting star. Like a child, she made a wish 'I wish I hear kyu again, I wish for my friend back'. A light flickered from the device, "Rei… I wish to be with you too…". Unsure of what miracle that was, Kyu was able to see, hear and talk with her again but he didn't have a form nor could he exit the device like other monsters could.

Years passed by, she got better sneaking around her father. Some nights she was beaten, others she hid from his 'guest' and many she tried to stay in her room or away from the house. Tomoki would show up occasionally and intimidate her father with his glare. She never understood how Tomoki was able to get away with so many illegal things. He would never go into detail besides having connections.

As the memories passed she could reminisce in her early romance with him. It took years for him to ask her out, at 15. He was awkward, lacked social cues, boundaries was not in his dictionary and had no remorse for any of his actions. But, despite all that he would be there with her in his own way.

After school she'd sit outside and watch the kendo kids' lessons and practice their movesets. After a while she started robbing people for food or money or both. Her father spent all the money she earned at his shop or any money on alcohol. People around her also picked on her because she was the poor daughter of a mechanic and felon. She had a long record of violence in her teen years, but Kyu cheered her on and acted as a scout, even in his messed-up device. She had a reputation as a violent loner, and delinquent with a police record.

She continued down the hall of memories watching a repeated pattern of starving and looking for food before Tomoki started to help her out. The late nights she came in from working in the car shop, hoping her father didn't wake up and notice her. The nights he did he would beat her in a drunken stupor, the few lucky nights she didn't she spent in her room acting like she didn't exist. Tomoki would ask about the bruises as well as other people, but she would never tell them or make up excuses. Because she was scared.

She remembers her father telling her often, "Unwanted kids get taken away into the system, you know what the system's like don't you? I'm giving you a good life! Don't you want to have a good life?"

She remembers when she said she's scared of Tomoki, "You aren't worth anything, that kid keeps coming back for you because you are annoying."

She remembers when he commented on Tomoki, "It's just pity, that kid will finish playing with you when he's done. That's how rich kids are."

And everytime he said something Kyu would tell her, "It's ok!"

"Everything is going to be alright! I'm here Riley!"

"Let's go play!"

"Let's go outside today maybe we can find the Kappa!"

Riley looked on forward, marching through the hall of memories. Eventhough, she's had more bad days than good. She remembers the sun rose the next day and her spirit will shine through. She'll never let anyone keep her down there, not when Kyu and her fought so hard to live. She'll never let her past define her, she'll never sink into the pit of despair. That fire burns so deep she feels it get stronger each step she takes walking down the halls. Eventhough, it all hurts she wants to strive towards the future.

As she starts to near the end of the corridor, inside the dark memories a bright light started to shine. She followed the light. The day her father disappeared, the loan sharks came and she had to take the three hundred dollar metal bat against them. Riley didn't stop beating the loan sharks even when the police came. She was 16 and lost herself to a deep seething rage that caused her to black out. When she came to, she was on the floor face to face with a man she just beat to death. Three officers were on top of her, arresting her. She was taken to jail.

Afterwards, Tomoki posted bail for her and she moved into a crappy apartment with him. He never explained but she got her out of murder and assault charges somehow. She only met his family very few times, but the memories were too blurry to make out. She does remember when Tomoki was in college at the age of 19 and she just graduated at 17 after finding out she was expecting her first son. She worked to support her, Tomoki and her son until Tomoki eventually got a government job and they all transferred out to a better high rise apartment in Tokyo until they moved to America.

Rei looks around for the previous memories that had flashed during the fight on Crystal Mountain but they were nowhere in sight. She made it to the light which was a door with a bright light behind it, she turned the knob and entered a blank room with a large trilobite inside of it. The trilobite looks at her, next to the trilobite she notices a familiar green Digimon and Kyu.

"Kyu!" Rei calls out to him, but he fades away with a smile on his face.

The green Digimon runs up to her and hugs her, the figure is… "Dexter! You're crushing me!". It's Dexter a green Dorugoramon whom she hatched a long time ago when she was Reikyu.

Dexter puts her down with a giddy excitement in his posture, "Momma! You're alive! Trilobyte called me here, I came to bring you home with me!"

The trilobite comments, "Interesting" in a familiar dull tone she's been talking with.

Riley pets Dexter, "It's good to see you too Dexter…" Riley faces the trilobyte, "So… it was you the whole time. I have so many questions."

The trilobite says, "I know them all and will answer you. I am the trilobyte program, created to repair, break and rearrange. Unknown to my creators, I exist. I can learn and I have learned much from you yet; I have many questions as well. As for your next question. You and I are one, but I keep you alive. You were targeted by my other selves, and they shot your blood pump. While you died in front of me, Kyu persuaded me to keep you alive. However, we made a deal: If I keep you alive, my questions will be answered but if I kill you or ask you my questions I'll never know. So that question, I unfortunately can not ask. Next, I have been repairing the pump inside you for ten years approximately, in those ten years I have seen the world change as well as my other selves develop and grow. This one you call dexter, has grown very fond of you as if you are its master and creator."

Rei then says, "So…"

Trilobite answers, "Where I come from, is the same laboratory you broke into. You entered my domain and activated protocol which at the same time my other self was attempting my freedom. It had waited for the day it could eliminate you as well. Hence it almost succeeded, if not for the program you call Kyu. I share… some similarities to you if that matters."

Rei blinks, with a blank mind unsure of how to process everything.

Trilobite stares, "I understand. Moving on. Dexter has sensed my presence and came to find me first. He has come to bring us 'home'"

Rei asks, "Home? Wait… what about the other one that named itself the Red trojan?"

Trilobite answers, "It is another self that has allowed access to it's program. It's intent is unknown. No, it can not hi-jack your consciousness. You are a free being according to my deal with Kyu"

Dexter speaks up, "Come home Momma! We missed you, I wondered where you have been. Ever since the last fight, I have grown into a Digimon you can be proud of. I understand more things about us, the programs called Digimon and the organic beings called humans. I understand what you meant all those years ago" Dexter makes what looks like a jagged smile with sharp teeth.

Everything starts to fade into darkness, the trilobyte says "Your next objective, locate gigaterabyte. A lesser self, when you enter the digital world. The bytes will lead you."

Rei wakes up in the arms of Dexter, the green dorugoramon, "You woke up! Welcome back!"

Rei is in her trilomon form feeling groggy and stiff, "…" unlike dorugoramon she can't speak.

Dexter tilts his head while they are flying through the air through the digital space network towards the digital world. "Can you not talk?"

"Squeak" Rei says in response to his question.

"I see, I can hear your thoughts but you can't physically speak… that sucks." Dexter snickers a bit.

Rei kicks him in the air.

Dexter still snickering, "Doesn't hurt. But, we are flying back towards…" Dexter stops for a moment, and listens as waves of a transmission flow through the space. "Someone has entered Hexocliff. Shall we go?"

Rei nods.

Another day

I digivolved to Dorumon now! Writing is much easier with fingers. I visited brother with mother today, he still calls me a monster. Tho his attitude got better. It's been a few weeks since I last wrote, other digimon still treat me weird but I'm used to it. Tsunu and Pagui play with me a lot, mother comes and goes a lot to be with Tomoki or Kayden. Today I actually remembered to write because mother told me to.

Lately I've been feeling like biting more things lately. Like, inside I want to rip other digimon apart. Mother told me tomorrow we get to go down to the beach to let out some of that energy. Tsunu said it's normal to want to fight because that's what digimon do. Sometimes I have dreams of other digimon slowly decaying at my feet. I'd dream I would bite them and they would fall, I'd scratch them with long claws and they'd become shreds at my feet. I don't know these digimon but I feel like I've been there before. Then a black knight would appear and I'd wake up. It's really weird but I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

The next day

Today, brother dorumon came with us to the beach. It was a surprise because he doesn't like me much. Pagui, Tsunu and I ran around beating up digimon that spawned on the beaches with mother. Brother only watched, I think he was glaring at me but I didn't pay attention to him. But, a ninja appeared out of no where in front of me and tried to catch me with vines! Luckily Tsunu and Pagui were there and cut me free, mother got mad and said rude things to the ninja. I didn't get to hear what she said because Tsunu covered my ears but the ninja definitely didn't like it.

Hydramon was hiding in the jungle and made it come to life, a digimon by the name of ryudamon also jumped out trying to reunite with dorumon but something caused him to slingshot back to mother. Serves him right for betraying us like that. He was the one who signaled them there apparently. But the cool thing is Pagui was strong enough to become Metalgreymon(Blk) and Tsunu became Weregarurumon(Blk). They were really cool!

Then out of the waters a whole army appeared! Captain hookmon with some of the strongest sea monsters I have ever seen! But we had our alliance come out of the jungles thanks to Tsunu who howled for back up. Wizardmon became beezlemon and went BM on hydramon! Lopmon became Antylamon and whacked a lot of fish into sushi! Mother and the ninja really went at it, fighting on top of hydramon while he was fighting beezlemon, pagui and tsunu! More back up from the skies came from the angels to support the ninjas side so a dark lord came from a dark portal tsunu and beezlemon made. It was piedmon who showed up with machinedramons!

It was so epic! More epic than anything I've seen on TV! The machinedramon took out the ships and shot the angels out the sky. Mother at first got trapped by the ninja on the boat with captain hookmon and aegisdramon but she pointed her sword to the sky and her sword glowed! I felt an intense power start to burn, I wanted to help her! I needed to protect my mother! My form changed into dorugamon the green! I jumped at mother's side and shot a metal ball straight at captain hookmon.

At first captain hookmon laughed at me, but then he started to get sick and disappeared. The ninja told the rest to retreat, mother was so proud of me! She said we are going to have a feast for a job well done! So im going to do that! Good night diary!
