Hey, y'all! This is the rewritten version of the story! I will be putting my own family in here, mostly because I think it would be cool, just changing the names around. Please bear with me as I do have actual books to write as well. Love y'all!

Chapter 3:
Nikki woke up the morning after the reaping with a massive headache. She managed to get dressed and brush her hair, but her hair hung in loose wavy curls to her elbows. She stumbled into the dining car.
"Good morning, sweetheart," Haymitch greeted her.
"Good morning," Peeta said to Nikki.
"Mmm..." Nikki waved, bleary eyed. She sat down across from Peeta and reached for the coffee, pouring a cup and doctoring it with cream and sugar. She took a few gulps before looking up at the two males. "Good morning."
Peeta looked back down at his breakfast. "Not a morning person?"
"Not really." Nikki sipped at her coffee, grabbing some fruit to put on her plate. "Normally, I'm not awake until I finish my first cup."
Haymitch raised his glass in cheers and, feeling a bit silly, Nikki raised her coffee mug to gently clink their cups together.
Peeta went back to discussing how to survive in any kind of situation while Nikki ate and woke up. He had just asked, "Couldn't I just start a fire?" when Nikki looked up.
"Only if it's a smokeless fire during the day. Otherwise, you're just letting the careers find and kill you." Nikki looked surprised at their looks of surprise. "What? It's common sense. However, any fire at night is a bad idea." She frowned. "I don't know exactly how to make a smokeless fire. I understand that you need dry wood, but I don't know how to dry the wood if you cut it fresh." She tilted her head, before focusing on Haymitch and Peeta again. "What?" she asked again.
Peeta shook his head, not knowing what to say, but Haymitch laughed. "You're a really deep thinker, aren't you, sweetheart?" Haymitch asked. Nikki scowled. Then Haymitch continued, "Here's my advice to you two: Get people to like you. If they like you, they'll send you stuff to help you when you're in need."
"How do you get someone to like you?" Nikki asked, confused.
"Be yourself," was Effie's reply as she walked in to get some coffee for herself. She frowned down at Nikki's cup. "You're too young for coffee," she mentioned.
Nikki rolled her eyes. "I started drinking coffee when I stopped growing."
...
A few hours later, they saw the Capitol come into view. There was a crowd of people pointing and cheering at the train as it came in. Nikki looked at Peeta to see his reaction. He was smiling and waving, so she looked back at the crowd. Nikki shyly waved at the crowd, blushing a little at the louder cheers. She couldn't stand there for long, because her shyness at the attention had her hiding behind Peeta.
"Are you really shy?" Peeta asked, looking over his shoulder at her.
"Yes," Nikki replied. "I don't like a lot of eyes on me at once. Especially when I can see them staring at me." She looked up at him and saw the surprise.
"Well, sweetheart," Haymitch said. "You're going to have to get over that quickly if you want to survive."
Nikki frowned and moved to sit down until they were to leave the train. She didn't want to admit that she was pouting, but she was pouting. When the train stopped, and they got off, Nikki followed the others. She was helped, read: Tortured, by a group of people to get her ready for her stylist. Then she was left alone for a few minutes until a man walked into the room. Nikki sat up when he appeared.
"Hi, Nikki. My name is Cinna. How are you doing?" He had gold eyeliner on which popped nicely with his skin.
"I'm okay?" Nikki responded.
Cinna smiled. "My friend Portia is helping Peeta. We were thinking about your costumes for your district."
"Cole mining," Nikki said, nodding.
"Yes," he replied. "But I don't want to do the usual outfits. I wanted to first see you in person before I decided. Then I would let Portia know my plan so that she can complement it with Peeta's outfit." Cinna looked Nikki up and down. "You look rather innocent, with a core of steel, so I was thinking about an almost princess style dress, but hanging straight down to your ankles instead of ballooning out." Nikki nodded in understanding. Cinna asked, "What do you think about fire?"
Nikki tilted her head. "I like watching it and I like the warmth. Why?"
He smiled. "I was thinking about adding fire to the outfits to make an impression."
She wasn't sure about that, but she nodded. "You seem to be rather fashionable, so I'll trust your judgement." Nikki smiled at her stylist.
Later, walking to the chariot and horses for District twelve, Nikki was surprised by the looks she was being given by her team. "What?"
"You look cute," Peeta said. "Innocent."
Nikki blushed. "Thanks?" she squeaked. Then she turned to Haymitch and Effie.
"You look wonderful, dear," Effie said, smiling at the fifteen year old.
Haymitch nodded slowly. "Very good, sweetheart."
Nikki smiled. "Thanks." She turned when she heard Cinna.
"I have the fire," he said, holding up a device that looked like a match. "It's not real fire, so don't worry." He tapped their outfits with the device and stepped back. "You'll see the flames when you start moving, but they'll go out when you stop moving. Go out there and show them how awesome you two are!"
"Thanks, Cinna," Nikki said.
They got into the chariot and waited for the first chariots to move. Peeta turned to Nikki. "Want to hold hands to show unity?" he offered.
Nikki blushed again, looking at him. "Okay," she said, shakily reaching out a hand which he grasped in his larger hand. Then they started moving forward. Nikki heard the crowd start roaring as they came into view and she looked around at them as flowers were thrown in their direction. The blush was still on her cheeks as she caught a red rose, and looking up at the screen above... she saw the red in her cheeks matched the red of the rose with flames flowing behind their chariot. Nikki turned to glance at Peeta only to stop in shock as he stared at the screen, his jaw dropping. Then he turned to look at her.
Peeta stared into her eyes, seemingly surprised at how mature and lovely she looked with a blush on her cheeks, and then he raised their hands to cheers from the crowds.
...
She was quietly watching everything around her as they rose to the penthouse suite for District twelve. "This is nice," Nikki said, looking around the floor.
"She speaks," Effie said. "I was beginning to think you had gone mute!" She sneered slightly, as if looking down on Nikki for not being bubbly over this 'opportunity'.
"Well, not everyone can be happy about kids killing kids," Nikki snapped. She brushed past the woman harshly and went to find a room for herself. She was tired of the company, and just wanted the next day to get here already. Training had to be better that listening to Effie's high pitched joyful voice.
Nikki learned a few new things during training, mostly how to set traps and make a hook for fishing. She didn't add any special feathers to the hook and line, because she only wanted it to be plain and catch the fish unaware. Nikki hoped that there was water and fish in the arena. She didn't know what would happen if there wasn't. A little ways away, she saw Peeta throwing a heavy object because he was dared to. She rolled her eyes, not understanding why the bullies were being so harsh so early. There was plenty of time for them to be hateful in the arena.
A second chapter today?! Wow! I hope that you like this version of the story better and that you continue to read it.
