Hey, y'all! This is the rewritten version of the story! I will be putting my own family in here, mostly because I think it would be cool, just changing the names around. Please bear with me as I do have actual books to write as well. Love y'all!

Chapter 7:

Nikki woke up over the next few days feeling feverish, with her right leg on fire. She looked around with bleary eyes, hearing a sound somewhere outside of the cave. It sounded like a beeping sound, and then it hit her: Haymitch was sending her something! Nikki struggled, getting up to her feet, and hobbling over to the entrance of the cave. There was a silver container, but just as she reached out to grab it, she fell forward in a faint. Before her vision went black, she saw a figure running to her.

~ Peeta ~

He sighed happily when he caught Nikki's feverish body before she hit the ground. He lifted her rather light frame into his arms and walked into the cave, laying her down gently. Then he walked back out to grab the gift that she had been given. He hoped that it was medicine, since she obviously needed some, and he brought the container inside so that the careers didn't find them. Peeta was amazed that Nikki had been able to hide for so long. When he saw her flushed face, he knelt by her side and opened the silver container. Inside, there were two little bottles... clearly labeled. One was a topical ointment for her leg, and the other was a liquid for oral ingestion. Following the directions, Peeta opened the liquid medicine bottle and gently lifted Nikki's head so he could pour it into her mouth. "Come on, Nikki, swallow," he said.

Rubbing her throat slightly, he waited for her to swallow. He let out a sigh of relief when she swallowed, letting the medicine slide down her throat. "There you go." He laid her back down and set the bottle down, before looking at the other bottle. How was he going to get the medicine onto her leg? He glanced over at her right leg and blushed at the location of the knife wound. It was a little above the midpoint of her thigh. "Gosh, how do I do this without exposing her?" Then he thought about it. "What would Katniss think about me doing this?" He hit his forehead a few times in his slight panic.

"I have to do something!" He told himself, glancing at Nikki worriedly. "Okay, I can do this." He saw her knife beside her bags and had a sudden thought. If he was careful, he could cut her pants leg to get to her wound. That way, he would be able to make sure she keeps her modesty while taking care of the wound. He nodded before getting started. Being very careful, Peeta cut her pants leg to open up a big enough hole so he could see the knife wound.

~ Tomas ~

Tomas watched the baker's son tending to his daughter's wound. He nodded approvingly at the way the boy handled it. He seemed to care about Nikki a little, and Tomas wondered what the people in the capital were thinking. He turned his head when his wife stepped out of the kitchen with two plates... Addie following behind her with another plate in one hand and three drinks in her other arm.

"Here you are," Marielle said, handing him a plate. "How is Nikki doing?"

Tomas thanked his wife. "She's got a fever, and her leg is infected, but Peeta is taking care of her. Right now, they are showing some of the other tributes."

"Okay," she said, nodding. As Addie placed down the drinks, they watched the screen still worrying about Nikki's health. On the screen, Little Rue and Thresh were running through the woods while the careers chased them.

Addie gasped in shock, watching without eating as she focused entirely on the screen. One of the careers threw a spear, and it flew through the air to pin the two from eleven together. Addie rushed over to her mom's side, hiding her face in her mom's neck. She shuddered at the internal visions she had of what she just saw.

~ Nikki ~

Nikki found herself in and out of feverish dreams. She couldn't tell what was real and what wasn't.

She thought she was back on the train before they got to the capitol. They were having dinner, and Haymitch was drinking as usual. He was making snide comments to Effie, who was attempting to ignore him. Nikki sighed, irritated over their bickering. She grabbed the bottle in front of Haymitch and took a small mouthful of the burning liquid.

"My dear!" Effie shrieked. Haymitch and Peeta stared at Nikki in shock. "That's not for kids!"

Nikki gave her a dry look. "One, I'm fed up with your nitpicking with each other. And, Two, old enough to kill... old enough to drink." She didn't know where this new attitude was coming from. Maybe she was just tired of their bickering? Maybe she was worried about the Hunger Games? Or, even both?

Haymitch let out a snort of laughter.

Peeta's face was hovering over her as he placed his hand on her forehead. His blue eyes held worry in them. Why was he worried? She was confused, reaching up to touch his cheek. "Nikki?" Peeta asked.

She smiled lovingly. "I'm glad you're here, even if this is only a dream."

"It's not a dream," Peeta said. He smiled down at her, trying to relax now that he knew she was okay.

Nikki wet her lips, before lifting herself up and saying, "Peeta would never do this in real life. I'd like to remember this even if it never really happened." Before he could open his mouth, her lips were pressed gently against his and she moved her hand from his cheek to his hair.
