Hey, y'all! This is the rewritten version of the story! I will be putting my own family in here, mostly because I think it would be cool, just changing the names around. Please bear with me as I do have actual books to write as well. Love y'all!

Oh! This chapter starts where the last one left off. Thank you for the two reviewers last chapter! Y'all are awesome!

Chapter 8:

Peeta didn't know what to do. He was frozen in place. What was he to do? He couldn't shove her away. Not only was it rude, but it went against his belief that men had to treat women with respect. Peeta started to pull away, because she was fevered, but then he figured that she probably wouldn't remember this anyway and he kissed her back. As his lips moved against hers, he thought back to the last few days as he searched for her and kept the careers occupied. He had been worried about how she might be hurt in the woods or dying. He wondered if he was softening towards her, liking her in the way that he liked Katniss. Nikki was a spitfire, like Haymitch said.

Nikki's lips pulled away from his, drawing him out of his thoughts. Her eyes looked into his and she smiled. "Thank you," she said. "I think I'll sleep now."

"Go to sleep," he said. "I'll watch over you." Peeta laid her down, putting his bag under her head. He ran a hand over her hair, which had fallen out of her ponytail, until her eyes closed and her breathing slowed. After checking to make sure that she was still alive, Peeta stood up to walk to the cave entrance when he heard the anthem playing. The game maker must have gotten bored, because the sky was now dark and pictures of the dead tributes were being shown. He sighed when the two from eleven were shown. It was sad.

Thinking about the numbers lately, Peeta counted on his fingers. "Twelve in the first few hours; Five later that day, so that's seventeen; one the next day; and then the two from eleven today. That leaves two more, plus us," he said in shock. He hurried back to Nikki before he could be caught.

~ Katniss ~

"He's starting to really fall for her," she said.

Her mother and Prim turned their heads to look at her. "What do you mean?" Mrs. Everdeen asked.

Katniss turned to look at her family in their living room. "His actions towards her. He's not acting like she's just another tribute, or some random girl from twelve with a crush on him. You can tell from his face that he's worried about her and see the softness in his expression."

Prim looked back at the screen to look at Peeta's face. "You're right! It does look like he's starting to like her! I wasn't sure at first, but it's nice."

Then the camera shifted to Cato and his companion. They seemed to be starving. Cato shook his head at whatever she said, and then he replied, "No. Let's sleep here for tonight. The two from twelve will be easy to kill after a good night's rest and food."

"Okay, Cato," she said, leaning against him as they sat against the Cornucopia.

~ Addie ~

"Mom, Dad, what do you think is going to happen?"

Marielle shook her head. "I don't know, baby girl." She hugged Addie, giving her a kiss on the head, and said, "Go ahead to bed. You'll see what happens tomorrow."

Addie nodded. "Good night," she said to her parents, getting their responses, and then she was walking up to the room she shared with her sister. Nikki's side of the room was full of second-hand books, and her bed was still made neatly. Addie sighed, looking at the bed before getting ready for bed and sliding into her own bed. "I hope that Nikki's okay."

~ Nikki ~

Nikki woke up the next morning seeing Peeta's face nearby. He was still asleep, but soon woke up when Nikki started moving around. "Sorry. I didn't mean to wake you up."

Peeta rubbed his eyes before looking at her. "You're awake! How are you feeling?"

Nikki frowned. "I'm fine. Why are you asking?"

"You had a high fever." Peeta came closer to feel her forehead. "It seems to have passed. I'm glad." He pulled his hand back. "You were given medicine by Haymitch. It really worked. How is your leg?"

Nikki looked at her leg, seeing the cut in her pants leg, and checked where the knife had stabbed her. "It looks healed." She looked back at him. "You put medicine on my leg?"

Peeta blushed. "I didn't do anything else."

She nodded. "Okay." Nikki looked at the circles under his eyes. "You should get some more sleep. I'll make sure you are safe." She smiled. "Thank you for looking out for me."

"Anytime," Peeta said in response to her thanks. "I think I will rest. Be careful. There are only two other tributes, but they can be deadly accurate. I don't want them to find us while I'm still asleep."

"Sleep well." Nikki waited until Peeta was asleep for a little bit before she got up and hobbled with her broken leg, which sent pain shooting up her side with every movement, out of the cave and into the woods. She would find the other two tributes and kill them so that Peeta could go back home. She knew that she probably wouldn't survive, even with the medicine healing the stab wound. She just had to make things easier for her love. It was always for him. She searched for one of the two other tributes, stopping to pick berries for them, and soon found a spot where some branches had been broken. It looked like one of the other tributes was nearby, probably searching for food. Nikki put the handkerchief with the berries down. "I should get some water and come back here to rest and snack on these berries."

She left the clearing and walked to where she saw a small stream. It wasn't long before she heard a cannon blast signifying a tribute's death. Nikki smiled, partly sad that she had killed another person, and partly happy that Peeta was that much closer to winning. She made her way back to the berries, and picked them back up before leaving the area so that the helicraft could pick up the female from two.
