A/N: Hey, y'all! This is the rewritten version of the story! I will be putting my own family in here, mostly because I think it would be cool, just changing the names around. Please bear with me as I do have actual books to write as well. Love y'all!
For the months of November and December, I'm helping my mom with her pop-up bake sales and craft fairs... selling her stuff for her and lifting heavy things since she's not allowed to lift anything over 10lbs. Three events in November, and two events in December. Not only that, but I'm trying to get my soap making business off the ground, too, so please wish me luck. Ah! I have so much going on! Lol.
Please read the bottom A/N and leave a review about where you think this story should end: right after the Quarter Quell is announced, and writing a sequel, or just keep writing here...
Chapter 11:
Nikki snuck into Peeta's room on the train. She had just woken up from a nightmare. "Peeta?"
The figure on the bed shifted, sitting up and letting the blanket fall to his waist. "Nikki? What's wrong?"
"Nightmare. Can I sleep here?" Nikki bit her bottom lip.
Peeta turned on the lamp next to his bed. He looked at her, seeing her unease, and nodded. "Of course." He scooted over, lifting the blanket for her. When Nikki hurried over and slid into bed, he covered her with the blanket and then leaned over her to turn off the light. Peeta laid down on his back.
"Thank you," Nikki said, turning over and laying her head on his shoulder. Wrapping an arm around his waist, she felt him stiffen slightly before relaxing.
"No problem," Peeta replied. He wrapped his right arm around her shyly, holding her close. "Goodnight," he said with a kiss to her forehead.
"Goodnight, Peeta." Nikki snuggled closer. The sound of his heartbeat helped her slip into sleep.
The next morning, the day they would be back in District 12, Nikki and Peeta were woken abruptly by the shrieking voice of Effie, "Just what is going on here?"
Nikki jerked awake, sitting up and placing a hand on her chest. Once she got her breathing under control, she glared at Effie. "Nightmares, you ignoramus."
Peeta snorted out a laugh, sitting up as well. "We had nightmares, and Nikki asked if she could sleep here for comfort. I agreed because it would help me too."
Effie shook her head. "You just can't do that!" She was appalled.
Nikki got out of bed, wearing shorts and a tank top which showed off her new leg, and walked past Effie with a "Watch me."
~ District 12 ~
Nikki and Peeta stood with their mentor and Effie on the stage. All three victors were wearing pants for comfort, but looked uncomfortable with the attention. After a long speech from the mayor, Nikki and Peeta were allowed to go to their families. Peeta was hugged tightly by his father.
"I'm so proud of you, son." The Baker glared at his wife when she scoffed. Maybe it was time for a change...
"Thanks, dad," Peeta said, hugging his dad back. Looking at his older brothers, he saw them smiling at him. He smiled back at them.
Nikki was squished by her family as they hugged her tightly, but she didn't mind. She watched Peeta with his family and smiled, until she saw Mrs. Mellark's glare at her and Peeta.
"How are you feeling?" her mother asked, brushing a stray hair out of her face.
Nikki looked up at her. "I'm better now that I'm home. Shall we go see what our house in Victor's Village is like?"
"Sure," her father replied.
Nikki nodded. "Be right back." She hurried over to Peeta. "Peeta, my family's going to go see what our new house is like. Do you want to take your family to see yours?"
Peeta smiled down at her. "Sounds like a good idea."
"NO!" The baker's wife yelled out. "I will not step foot there. Peeta, you useless child, if you want to live there, you will live there alone!"
Everyone was shocked at her attitude. Peeta's dad said, "Well then, you can go straight home while we check out Peeta's new house. He's a man now, so I'm sure he'd like to live far away from you!" He was pissed, Nikki could see.
Nikki backed away, slightly. "Um, I didn't mean to cause any problems."
"You didn't," said Peeta and his brothers.
Peeta's oldest brother explained, "She's always like that. I moved out when I turned eighteen because she is the overbearing abusive type."
"Same," said the second oldest Mellark boy. "Today has been awesome so far!" He grinned at Nikki.
Nikki giggled slightly. She was glad that he had moved out yesterday as well.
Peeta looked at his dad and brothers in relief. "Thank you," he said. Then he turned to Nikki. "Let's go."
Nikki smiled at him. "Let's." She slid her hand in his and led the way to her family. The two families, minus Mrs. Mellark, walked through town and down the road to Victor's Village. Nikki was glad to have Peeta at her side. They came to two houses across from each other... one had a sign that said "Mellark" and the other house had a sign that said "Swift". Nikki looked torn, but she said, "Well, I guess that this is where we part."
Peeta nodded. "Yeah." He kissed Nikki's forehead. "See you tomorrow?"
"Of course!" Nikki's eyes sparkled with joy. She was led away from Peeta and his family, by Addie who was holding her hand.
The house that the Swifts would be living in was a large two-story house with three bedrooms, four bathrooms, an office, large kitchen with a small dining nook, a formal dining room, and large living room. Her family was in shock at the luxury. Nikki walked around the house, thinking about where her bedroom would be and what she would do to organize the kitchen, and as she walked up the stairs... she heard her mom mutter to her dad about the relationship between Nikki and Peeta.
"They seem to really like each other," Mrs. Swift said.
"He better not do anything to hurt her," her husband said.
Nikki shook her head as she entered a lovely bedroom in shades of blue and green. It represented both the forest and the sea, which calmed her nicely. She only saw pictures of the sea before, but it seemed like a nice place to go.
A/N: This story is coming along a lot better than before. :D I hope that you like this chapter. I'm hoping that I get at least one chapter of this out a week if I can (1/month if life gets too busy) until this story is done. Do I end this story right after the Quarter Quell is announced (Creating a new story for a sequel?)? Or should I keep writing here for however long this idea lasts? Please review! 943 words for the chapter itself... I'm sorry.
