Kurai knew that he was messing with the timeline, but his battle with Supervillain Buuhan proved that nothing could be guaranteed on anymore. He had to play dumb when it came to what happened to the final majin, and because Goku and Vegeta hadn't experienced any divine ki they hadn't sensed him destroy Buuhan.
So the story held up better than Kurai could've hoped.
His allies hadn't understood why Kurai wanted his tail and used a wish to do, but when he explained that he had an idea to lessen the strain of the Super Saiyan forms and then exceed them. The idea of his tail wasn't something he had come up with when he was on his own though, it had come from some time back. When he trained with Goku and Vegeta all the way back in the Time Nest, Goku had mentioned his tail had helped him keep his Super Saiyan forms sustained even in his younger body. If the tail on a saiyan did lessen the strain of Super Saiyan and all the other transformations beyond — such as Super Saiyan 3 which was still very stamina intensive to maintain — then he would consider it a worthwhile investment for his allies even of none of them could attain Super Saiyan 4.
He knew that comparatively speaking, the God forms surpassed the Super Saiyan 4 in terms of raw power. For all the power that Super Saiyan 4 and its further powered stages boasted, divine ki was power given to those who stepped into the realms of the Gods. The two were not a fair comparison just due to how each was achieved. One was connected to ascending beyond the mortals and the other was connecting a saiyan focusing on what they truly were and bred to be although still mortal. If one was looking objectively, there could be an argument made that there was no real reason to achieve Super Saiyan 4 when he could use his god forms.
But that was only true for someone like Kurai who had the god forms and wanted achieve Super Saiyan 4.
He still wanted Goku and Vegeta to meet Beerus and then use Super Saiyan God before he used them himself. It was them who had been the saiyans to achieve those forms to fight Beerus, it was supposed to be them even if they had originally died in this timeline. With the Supreme Kai alive and well, that meant Beerus and Whis were both alive and still as secure as could be hoped. With them, there was still the possible prophecy of the Super Saiyan God for Beerus to want to find and contend with. The only problem was that it was quite possible that the oracle fish would point him out as he had used Super Saiyan God for an observable period of time to destroy Buuhan. He already screwed that up but he still hoped to influence the future with what little remained of events he knew could happen. He had no clue on the timeline, but he knew Beerus would wake or do something eventually down the line.
He should've woken up already considering that with all the years in the future he had been spending but apparently Gohan and Trunks may not have been enough to garner the prophecy or his attention at the time.
Whatever, the better they could power up the better off they would be.
Vegeta had been to one elected to fire a power-ball when the time came — mainly since no one else knew how to — and Kurai warned them that he had little to no experience in being a Great Ape himself — since he lost his tail early in his life — so it would be quite possible for him to go out of control. He'd have to rely on them to help keep the collateral to a minimum so he would destroy cities or force people to redraw the maps on the planet.
For the next year, Kurai spent some of his time working with Piccolo who had Kami's knowledge of self-control techniques, some time with Vegeta who had been trained to ignore the normal handicap of a saiyan's tail being their biggest weakness, and also spent time sparring with Buu to fulfill his promise.
It also gave Goten and Trunks someone to spar with as Buu was strong and Goten and Trunks weren't quite up to par with the rest of the Z-fighters themselves right now. Much to Kurai's relief, Buu seemed fond of the younger saiyans when they met and they regularly hung out with after Goten and Trunks finished their homework. Both of them had been miffed that they had not been allowed to help out with the battle of the multiple Buus, but they knew they just weren't strong enough to do anything. The three also sparred as well and that had the saiyans were growing in leaps and bounds with a decent sparring partner to work with.
Goten and Trunks were well on their way to becoming powerhouses.
As for Gohan, Xtrunks, and Goku, they had gone to the Kai's world with the intention of getting some serious training in. Since Buu was more or less happy in his intermittent isolation and friendship with Goten and Trunks and other fighters who could beat him if he went on a rampage, the three decided they didn't need to be on planet for a while. Much like in the original timelin, the Supreme Kai showed them where the Z-sword was and they managed to pull it out to train with it. With that and Goku's curiosity rearing its head — much like the main timeline — they tested the blade only to break it and release the Elder Kai, who — after some 'persuasion' — was willing to unlock Gohan potential. Goku declined as he wanted to see what Kurai was up to and instead wanted to focus on honing his Super Saiyan 3 form while Gohan had firmly told Xtrunks that he had to be ready to train hard if he was going to have his potential unlocked right now.
Vegeta had trained extensively with Kurai to make sure the tail wouldn't become a handicap as it was for most inexperienced saiyans who hadn't received special training. It took all of his time with the prince before Kurai managed to get a handle on it, even being able to manipulate his tail as a supplementary limb in a fight if he wanted to. Vegeta however, made sure he didn't use it as another limb due the the potential drawbacks that could affect him. The prince cited that if his tail was necessary for the transformation he wanted, he should keep it tucked away as to not leave him vulnerable. Kurai mulled over that before deciding that Vegeta was indeed correct on that, he had no idea if the tail was needed after Super Saiyan 4 was already achieved — he had seen Goku and Vegeta use it without showing a tail he could see — but better to be safe than sorry. He wrapped the tail around his waist as Vegeta and Nappa used to do before they had come to Earth to take the dragon balls.
Any days he had off were used spending a week/hour inside the time chamber and noting that maintaining his Super Saiyan forms — including his god forms — were far easier than they were before. What had taken literal months and years of time to get to a tolerable were far easier to maintain within days of him overcoming the usual handicap that all saiyans had with a tail. He hadn't thought that the god forms would be enhanced by having his tail, but he didn't question his luck, he would take it. He also took the other time patrollers and Piccolo into the time chamber after his first session of testing his limits in order to have Piccolo mentor Itar and Hollo while he worked with Cauri and Frigi. Since Itar and Hollo both had regenerative abilities, Piccolo decided to teach them the Kaioken while Kurai pushed Cauri to access Super Saiyan 3 and to see what sort of transformation Frigi could manage. He hoped he could push Frigi hard enough for him to access his golden form, that would be a huge boon against future threats that may come.
The Frost Demon Race didn't exactly lag so heavily in the transformation department as the namekians or majin did.
"Is everybody ready?" Kurai murmured with his eyes closed.
After the murmurs of agreement, he heard Vegeta call out, "Burst open and mix!"
Kurai took a deep breath and looked up at the power-ball, feeling ready to try to keep his reason during the transformation.
Kurai almost immediately felt his body grow while a wave of primal wrath clawed at his control and egging him on to rampage and destroy. He strained against his primal instinct as he heard voices shouting at him, they were familiar but distorted. He flailed and howled, roaring as he lost control and was swallowed by the wave of indistinct rage and hate. Several insects are around him and he swats at them, enraged as they pepper him with ki blasts to try to keep him from killing them. His rage only grew at the insignificant flies around him and he tried to blast them with a ki cannon from his mouth as they scattered.
'Control yourself!' A voice echoed in his mind.
Kurai paused, snarling in confusion at the interruption and voice daring to command him.
'This isn't what you want! You trained so hard for nothing?'
Kurai shook his head, as though trying to clear it of a headache.
But he had been training hard.
Why?
He roared in rage and confusion, why was it all so hard to think?
Goku and Gohan both dashed out of the way as Kurai let out a ki blast coming from his mouth that resulted in a massive explosion. Vegeta launched a attack from the sky, lighting Kurai's Great Ape form while causing him to fall onto his back but not stopping him. Kurai howled and lunged at the Saiyan Prince who attacked him, intending to crush him in his hands. Vegeta was far too quick and shot back before Kurai could grab him and try to crush him in his grip. The four patrollers who had been on standby just in case dashed in and peppered the giant ape with ki blasts. Enraged by the attacks, Kurai's brown fur lightened and with a roar all of his fur turned gold as though the great ape turned super saiyan as well. A wave of force buffeted the area as they all tried to keep from being blown away, not easy considering the output of energy Kurai was generating in this form.
He howled and blast of ki erupted from his mouth and Goku flew into the air to fire a ki blast to force Kurai's blast into the sky.
"Kurai you need to stop!" Gohan shouted as he flew around the rampaging ape, unwilling to attack his ally, "You been training for this all year! You can do this!"
Vegeta didn't waste his breath and literally slammed into Kurai's stomach, causing Kurai to double over and huff before he roared and swatted at the prince who blocked the blow even as he was sent towards the ground. Vegeta didn't let it startle him and sprung off the ground to take back into the skies before Kurai could retaliate. Goku's look was nothing but determined as he fired off a volley of Ki blast as Kurai raised his arms against the attack as they detonated on impact. He howled and jerked his head away as Itar set of a solar flare to blind him for a moment, letting the others try to wear him down.
The fighters all realized what of threat Kurai was like this, his power level was destructive if not controlled.
The Great Ape was strong enough as it was, then he turned into some sort of Super Saiyan form on top of that and he was able to shrug off their attacks with little difficulty. If Kurai turned his head down and fired a strong enough, it would end the entire planet.
"Should we cut off his tail?" Goku offered warily, seeing the patrollers desperately trying avoid Kurai's swipes and ki blasts, "I don't think he can control himself."
"Tch." Vegeta scoffed, his ki flaring in annoyance, "He's just like a newborn under the full moon! I refuse to let my time be of no consequence, he will master this or I will make him pay! If he made this wish and it turns out to be a waste, then we gathered the dragon balls for no reason! Shenron was incapable of sending him and his allies back to the correct location and we basically made a house for a pink blob with the power to destroy the solar system several times over and has the common sense of a petulant child!"
Vegeta blitzed toward Kurai before Goku or Gohan could stop him.
Kurai flailed before agains he heard the voice demand he calm down and think.
He blinked and looked around, only to realize it was his own voice, his rationality trying to bring him back from his fury. He saw a being fly by and was about to swat him before the fly caught his hand and held him back even throwing him back with a ki blast that landed him on his ass. Kurai glared and fired a ki blast from his mouth as Vegeta managed to catch the attack only for it to detonate as Kurai fired another blast into the attack. Vegeta cried out in pain as he crashed to the floor, trailing smoke although still conscious. Kurai tries to stomp the prince into the Earth but Vegeta managed to throw himself out of the way as he transformed into a Super Saiyan while Goku and Gohan both rush in and slam a double-uppercut to Kurai's chin.
Vegeta winced as he landed, mentally berating himself for underestimating Kurai despite all the warnings. He powered up into a Super Saiyan 3 and flew up to blindside Kurai who was more focused on Goku and Gohan.
He roared and began to blast Kurai with all his power, deciding to hold nothing back, Kurai howling in pain and surprise as he hadn't expected the power behind the attacks. Goku and Gohan both blinked and stared at Vegeta as he stopped holding back.
"Leave this to me." Vegeta demanded quietly.
Vegeta blitzed into The Great Ape's face and fired off a Final Flash that knocked Kurai onto his back before raining a barrage of ki blasts down on the stunned ape. Kurai couldn't get his guard up in time as he was pinned down by the sheer pressure of the attacks raining down on him.
"You dare call yourself a saiyan with that shameful display?" Vegeta roared at Kurai, ki flaring in response to Vegeta's outrage "No matter what timeline you trained under me with, I would never allow you to disgrace your saiyan pride in such a manner! You act like a juvenile infant throwing a tantrum after all the training you insisted on? Control yourself right now or I will destroy you myself!"
Kurai blinked at the sheer audacity before he felt a burst of amusement welling up in him, this was just like back in the Time Nest.
That was just like Vegeta!
The emotion of sheer disbelieved amusement cut through the fog of rage and Kurai began to calm down, controlling his Ape form with a smile evident on his features. Vegeta noticed this and an imperceptible smirk crossed his face as Kurai slowly brought his arms up to brace against the barrage.
Vegeta stopped his assault and crossed his arms.
"Sorry." Kurai rumbled, massive hand coming up to rub the back of his head in his own habitual expression of embarrassment, "I know you trained me better than that."
Vegeta scoffed in annoyance, "Hmph. Of course it takes you something like a dressing down before you behave. You are just an overgrown brat."
Kurai shook his head, "Seems to be the only way I learn."
Goku floated over, "So you are in control now?"
Kurai nodded, "Yeah… now it's just seeing if I can do it like I think."
Kurai lumbered to his feet and took a deep breath while closing his eyes, focusing on the primal power he could feel thundering through his body. He focused on condensing it, moulding it to contain the power while merging it with the Super Saiyan form his Great Ape form was in. It was difficult as he felt his own instinct to rage and destroy rising, but forcefully clamped down on his control. He had spent a year training for this exact moment and he would be damned if he gave up on it now and on only one attempt. If Goku and Vegeta could do it in one go, then he could as well, he would accept no other alternatives! Lightning erupted around him as the air crackled with the power he was forcing himself to contain. He felt the power become denser and more potent as his size began to decrease, his rationality and control steadily and fully returning to him. When he finally finished his transformation, he opened his eyes and looked at Vegeta with a smile, noting the surprise on the prince's face.
Kurai could feel the new power of his Super Saiyan 4 transformation, noting his new form's appearance with the red fur and tail still wrapped securely around his waist.
Perfect.
Fuhai reclined on his crystalline throne as he idly watched the timeline, wondering how best to shake it up since the multiple Buus had been been beaten. That had been fun to watch, seeing how all the matchups went and how the Z-fighters fared against the Buus. He hadn't accounted for the Time Patrollers he abducted getting involved or Kurai finally being forced to use his God Form, but he didn't mind. The fun was in the spectating and observing the outcomes that differed. Majin Buu was no match for Kid Buu and that battle was a forgone conclusion despite this Majin Buu's better performance than his mainline counterpart. The problem was who to pull, he didn't want to pull another Broly back over from another timeline as it would just be unoriginal and frankly he couldn't match up to the Z-fighters as they had grown over the year while practicing for Super Saiyan 4. Even in 'Supervillain' mode the difference was only growing wider and wider. Sure, the Vampa Broly was still on well… Vampa and Fuhai didn't see the need to disturb the saiyan and his father at all.
Maybe another antagonist of the Z-fighters?
Versions of Cell and Freiza would be too weak.
Cooler was also out.
Frieza was still in hell and while his brother was still somewhere leading his brothers former empire, he had run into issues as many planets had revolted at the news of Frieza's demise.
Basically he was too busy an most of the other timelines where he had trained still needed him in the timeline he was in.
Plus, strong as Cooler was, he had no chance against even the younger Trunks as he hadn't trained during the years after his father and brother fell.
Pity that, he had the potential to use the golden form if he applied himself.
Bojack was comparable to pre-super perfect Cell, so he was too weak as well.
He wasn't too keen on throwing in someone too strong, many of the foes that happened after Beerus' excursion to Earth were too much for Goku and Vegeta without their ascension to Super Saiyan God.
He rubbed his chin and waved his hands, ripples of dimensional thinning enough for him to see the other timelines.
Kakarot and Turles were take from too early in their respective timelines to pose a threat, and Goku and Vegeta reacted appropriately. Cell had been much more of a decent threat that Gohan had fought and Fuhai had to make sure the Cell Juniors wouldn't impede the android and saiyan's clash. Each version of Buu he had pulled over had been good motivation for the Z-fighters, but he knew they were much more prepared for someone with that power level. While he could pull some shadow dragons over, they were literally fused with their dragon balls and that would cause major issues. He didn't care to be discovered when he was enjoying himself and running gauntlets on the fighters of this timeline.
He eyed one timeline and smirked, well… why not?
