Chapter 9
As Thor lead SG-1 and the remaining Guardians of the Galaxy through the Gate with Jane Foster by his side he soon came face-to-face with Heimdall, Odin's trusted guard. The Asgard stood before Thor most displeased.
Thor merely smiled, "Heimdall."
Jack cheered from behind, "I see you got a promotion to guard the Gate."
Heimdall huffed, "Thanks to you." He then turned his attention to Peter Quill, "You have brought the Guardian with you."
"Guardian?" asked Jack.
Peter asked, "You know who I am?"
"You are Peter Quill, son of Ego." he stated.
Peter asked, "You know who my father is?"
"He is a Celestial," he nodded. "Odin will see you now."
The raccoon, Rocket perked up, "Great let's go see the King."
Heimdall sounded to Peter, "Just you!"
Peter smirked, "Just me!" He tried to play it cool unsure what Odin would say. "Take me to your leader."
Jack rolled his eyes for Peter sounded like a teenager playing a game than an explorer.
Heimdall sounded, "This way." He left Thor with SG-1 and Peter's remaining crew.
Jack stood by Thor, "What's a Celestial?"
Thor replied, "A very old, very ancient being with great power. Ego is dangerous. He thinks he is a god and has actual power."
"And Quill is his kid?" asked Jack.
Thor agreed, "Appears so."
"This isn't good," Jack mentioned.
"Indeed," Thor agreed a bit worried.
Meanwhile - Earth
In an apartment in New York City, high school grad Peter Parker sat bewildered and trying to figure out what had happened. His world seemed strange and confusing. Did he live with his aunt and uncle or was he just visiting? Was his parents alive or dead. Was he bit by a genetically engineered spider or wasn't he? He grimaced as his world seemed augmented into a mixture of uncertainty. He swore he lived with his widowed aunt in a small home after his uncle was killed by a robber and he had super powers from a spider bit. But he also recalled visiting his mother's cousin in NY City after he graduated for she had gotten him a job in the UN Headquarters as her assistant. He was not sure just how got to the apartment and still could not get the realities straight for he had no connection to the Avengers and was only recently labeled by the press "Spiderman."
A rap came to his door, "Peter!"
It was his mother's cousin calling. He rose to his feet wearing jeans and a gray t-shirt and opened the door. Before him stood his mother's cousin, Elizabeth Weir. "Liz," he smiled unsure why was even with her. He recalled a job offer and at same time there was no such offer.
Elizabeth Weir also suffered from the reality blending but had no idea who to talk to. "Peter, can we talk…Just the two of us."
"Sure," he led her inside his simply furnished bedroom.
She sat down beside him on the bed wearing jeans and a yellow sweater over a white blouse. She admitted, "You know that earthquake that the whole country felt?"
He nodded, "Yeah!"
"Something happened but I'm not sure what. I'm not to sure how to explain this but I have two sets of memories. I felt off ever since the earthquake. I'm not sure what happened but it wasn't just an earthquake. Do you know what I mean?" she looked at his youthful face.
"I know what ya mean," he agreed. "It's like two sets of memories…"
"Exactly," she confirmed. "In one set of memories I am a diplomat for the U.N. and I got you a job as an intern for the summer. In another set of memories I was called to Colorado Springs to work on a top secret project temporarily and I was told we made contact with aliens and we had this large ring called a Star Gate. You lived with you folks and they are alive but I think they died…" she shook her head. "It's confusing."
"Me too," he confessed. "In one life my folks died and I lived with Aunt May and Uncle Ben. In another life my parents lived and I'm going to work at the U.N. as an intern. In the other life I was hired to be a photographer at a paper and I was bit by this spider and I know it sounds crazy but the spider bite did something to me."
Liz asked unsure, "What did the spider bite do to you, Peter?"
"If I show you then you have to promise not to tell a sole," he winced.
"Show me." she insisted.
He held out his arm and out of his wrist a web flung across the room and hit the wall. He sat shaking, "I couldn't do that but then I could."
Liz walked over to the web and picked at it. She turned to Peter, "I need to get us to Colorado and find out just what happened. It wasn't an earthquake. That much I am sure of."
SGC
General George Hammond was growing tired of dealing with the chronic idiocy of SG-1 and the Avengers. Instead of having twice the help he found he had double the trouble as the two realities collided into a incoherent mess.
In all his years in the military and commanding the SGC he never had seen such a mess as with two realities becoming one. He understood alternate realities and how they could be near duplicates or very different but blending two completely different realities together was the most insane event he had ever witnessed. The General tried to keep the realities separate to help with his task but even in his own mind things seemed off. In one set of memories he commanded the SGC for years and trusted SG-1 with his life. In another set of memories SG-1 didn't exist and the Avengers were the premier team and one he only recently met. He was bombarded with more paperwork than ever before and found himself feeling a bit overwhelmed. His day was only made more intense with a visit from Nick Fury of SHIELD.
Director Fury had come to the SGC to get a report on how things were progressing and see the Gate in person. He also found he had duel memories and he too had to deal with the fallout of the reality blending. He found his way to General Hammond's office. He stood outside and called, "General Hammond."
George looked up from his work and spied the man. He stood up and offered a hand, "Director Fury."
Nick entered the small and out of the way office and shook George's hand. He looked him in the eye, "Pleasure to speak to you in person, General." He noted the small office, "Kind of small for a general's office." He then figured, "But you are right next to the control room over looking the Gate. Nice strategic location." He took a seat and glanced over the picture frames on the desk, "Family?"
"My granddaughters." he confirmed. He took his seat once more. "I am compiling a report for SHIELD on the Avengers."
"I appreciate that." Nick agreed. "To some extant, my mind is blown by what happened. I have two sets of memories. It's like I lived two different lives."
"Many of us have that, Director Fury." George told him.
"I know you were sent here by the Pentagon to oversee SHIELD's Star Gate program. I have no idea how you got here in that other reality we blended with." he admitted.
"I was brought out of retirement and sent here to oversee the SGC one year after first contact. I started the program we have today and the SG teams. The first dial out was to Abydos and Colonel O'Neill lead that mission. They defeated Ra. Dr. Jackson stayed on Abydos with his wife for a year until another Goa'uld rose to power and she was taken as a host. Star Gate Command was breached and that led us to install the iris and I hand picked Major Carter to lead the research and development department. I've been running this program for seven years. I've seen a lot of things over the years but nothing like this. What was your life like in the reality with no SHIELD and no Avengers?"
"I had both eyes." he told him. "I ran a bar that I bought after I got out of the service. My life was mundane. That's how I can tell the memories apart. In one life I was just a simple man running my bar and doing some boxing on the side. In another life…I'm running an organization that has the most advanced technology, the best and brightest minds and the Avenger Initiative. It's such a stark difference between the two realities. I sometimes wonder if it was all a dream."
"I know what you mean." George agreed. "Even before the blending something I wondered…" he confessed.
"I bet," he had to agree. "When I first met O'Neill I wasn't sure what to make of him. I thought he was kind of joker. Then this last week, I've been reading the reports of SG-1 and that Gate. Gotta admit, SG-1 would give the Avengers a run the money."
George replied, "I think the Avengers could SG-1 a run for the money too. The Avenger team came across an outpost infested with replicators. The Hulk got them out. Thor thinks the replicators will adapt. They always do. Asgard isn't unified like it was in SG-1's reality. It's still fractured and vulnerable. Odin isn't Thor. I can tell you that much. Thor was one of our greatest allies but Odin is bit more reserved. Then there is Loki…" he sighed.
"Loki can be a real pain in the ass." Nick agreed.
"I see that." he agreed.
