Chapter 2, The train ride.
Harry's last month with the Dursleys wasn't fun, however considering that Dudley was now scared of him and that Uncle Vernom and Aunt Petunia just ignored him this was still an improvement.
On the last day of August Harry's relatives dropped him off at King's Cross station and left him, Harry wondered around for sometime trying to find platform nine and three-quarters but with little luck.
Finally Harry happened to hear a family of red heads mention Muggles and he decided to follow them, luckily for Harry the family's mother was kind enough to help him reach the platform and the twins named Fred and George helped him with his trunk.
As Harry waited for the train to leave he heard the red headed boys saying goodbye to their mother and sister, when the young girl learned that Harry Potter was on the train she asked to go and meet him, however their mother not only told her daughter no but she also forbid her children to harass Harry with questions about Voldemort.
For the next few minutes Harry sat in his compartment alone, then the door opened and the youngest of the red headed boys stuck his head in, "Anyone sitting there, everywhere else is full" he said, Harry shook his head and the boy sat down.
"I'm Ron by the way, Ron Weasley" said the red headed boy "So are you really Harry Potter", Harry nodded, "Really, I thought it was just one of Fred and George's jokes" said Ron in amazement, "And do you really have the scar".
Harry pulled back his hair showing his scar, Ron stared at him silently with his mouth slightly open he looked like he was meeting his favourite celebrity, "So that's where You-Know-Who" said Ron finally.
"Yes, but I can't remember any of it" said Harry, "Nothing" asked Ron, "Well, I remember a lot of green light, but nothing else" explained Harry, "Wicked" said Ron still seeming starstruck
After this Harry and Ron began to talk about their families, Harry told Ron about how horrible the Dursleys was and her learned that Ron was just one of seven children, his two oldest brothers Bill and Charlie had already left school and his little sister Ginny would start next year, the others was all at Hogwarts.
Ron said that Bill and Charlie had gone of many adventures while at school and had made quite the name for themselves, he also said that Percy was a Prefect and that Fred and George was a couple of trouble makers.
"So you could say that I've got a lot to live up to, but anything that I do would have already been done, everything I get is second hand, I've got Bill's robes, Charlie's old wand and Percy's old pet rat" said Ron sounding gloomy as he pulled a fat rat out of his pocket.
"This is Scabbers, he's useless, most of the family doesn't even like him" said Ron as he placed Scabbers on the table.
It was at this point that Ron began to feel self-conscious, after all he had just admitted to Harry Potter that his family was poor, however Harry didn't think that there was anything wrong with being poor and he told Ron so.
After some time a old woman pushing a cart filled with various sweets asked them if they would like anything, Harry not knowing anything about wizard sweets bought a little of everything and shared it with Ron.
While eating their sweets a boy named Neville came round asking if they had seen his lost toad, only a minute later Neville came back with a girl called Hermione who was helping him find his toad.
Ron managed to embarrass himself in front of everyone by trying to perform a spell that likely didn't exist, then Hermione found out who Harry was and she began to talk about how she had read about him and about Hogwarts.
"Do either of you know what house you'll be in, I hope I'm in Gryffindor, it sounds like the best, but I suppose Ravenclaw wouldn't be too bad" said Hermione, Harry had no idea what she was talking about, what was Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, Harry was really starting to wish that he had asked Hagrid about this when he had the chance.
"Anyway you two had better change, I expect we'll be there soon" said Hermione as she left with Neville, "Whatever house I'm in I hope that she's not in it" said Ron.
"What house do you think that you'll be in" asked Harry hoping to learn something about all this, "Gryffindor most likely, Mum and Dad was in it, all of my brothers was in it, I don't know what they'd say if I wasn't in it" said Ron sounding gloomy by the whole thing.
Harry could see that this was a soar subject for Ron so he didn't continue it, he didn't want to get on someone's bad side before he even reach school.
Soon Ron started to talk about Quidditch, (something that Harry knew nothing about), Ron spent the next few minutes explaining everything about the game, Harry didn't really understand much of it but the was happy to see that Ron was in a much better mood.
However Ron's good mood didn't last long because three boys entered the compartment, Harry thought that the middle boy with blond hair looked familiar but he wasn't sure, "Is it true, they're saying that Harry Potter is in this compartment" said the blond boy.
"Yes" said Harry gaining the blond boy's interest, "This is Crabbe and Goyle" said the blond boy gesturing to the two large boys next to him who looked like bodyguards, "And I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy".
Ron failed to hold in a snigger, "Do you think that my names funny, there's no need to ask you yours, red hair and a hand-me-downs, you must be a Weasley" said Malfoy giving Ron little more then a glance.
"You soon find out that some wizarding families are better then others Potter, you don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort, I can help you there" said Malfoy holding out his hand for Harry too shake it.
"I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself thanks" said Harry not even touching Malfoy's hand, "I'd be careful if I was you Potter, if you hand around the riff-raff like the Weasleys it'll rub off on you" said Malfoy as he walked away with Crabbe and Goyle close behind.
With Malfoy and his goons gone Harry and Ron changed into their robes, it was a good thing too because they arrived at the station only five minutes latter.
