Just as soon as Wilhelm dozed off, Victoria gave him a light flick on the head, making his eyes shoot open and his head pop up. Hopefully, Jefferson didn't notice. He scanned the room and observed that he wasn't the only one not paying attention. Max looked deep in thought, but also a bit nervous.
It's probably nothing, Wilhelm thought.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Taylor raising her hand to throw something at Kate, and without even looking, he casually swatted it away. Taylor frowned.
"You're no fun," Taylor whispered.
Wilhelm gave her a fake smile and a wink, then dropped it and returned his attention to Mr. Jefferson's lecture.
"Now, can anyone give me an example of a photographer who perfectly captured the human condition in black and white?" Jefferson asked, "Anyone?"
"Diane Arbus," Victoria answered.
Wilhelm's focus faded, and he dozed off again for a few seconds. This time, Victoria did notice him falling asleep. His attention returned to Max after she was asked another question. Victoria answered for her. He was entertained by the bitchiness of the dynamic.
"Louis Daguerre was a French photographer who created "Daguerreotypes", a process that gave pictures a sharp reflective style, like a mirror."
She then turned to Max.
"Now you're totally stuck in the retro zone. Sad face," Victoria said, making Wilhelm chuckle.
"Why do you have to be so mean, Vicky?" Wilhelm asked, lightly slapping her shoulder.
Victoria's smirk turned into a scowl.
"What.. the fuck did you just call me?"
A mischievous grin grew on his face. He moved his hand and placed it over hers. She snatched her hand back.
"I was only joking," he cooed to her in French.
She talked back in English, still irritated.
"You can't just use our secret language and expect me to stop being mad."
"Yes. Yes, I can."
Wilhelm put his hand next to her on the table with his palm up. This time, she accepted, and went back to holding his hand. By this point, both of them had completely lost track of Jefferson's lecture.
"Now what's going on here that you two find to be so captivating?" Mr. Jefferson asked.
"Oh, it's nothing of the sort. She just doesn't like being called Vicky."
"I see. I was hoping your constant quarreling would have stopped by now. Please pay attention."
"We'll be sure to get back on task, but as for our quarreling, that'll never end. Not on my watch. I won't extinguish our fire on your account."
Used to his antics, Victoria rolled her eyes and stayed silent.
"Very well," Jefferson said with a sigh and then returned to his lecture.
The rest of Jefferson's lecture went on without incident. Wilhelm was happy for it to be over. Unfortunately for him though, Victoria started to talk to their teacher.
This'll take a while.
Wilhelm decided to leave and said goodbye to Victoria on his way out.
"See you later, V. I'm not feeling so well. Text me later when you want to meet."
"Okay," Victoria responded before she waved him off.
