Avengers: Wreckage

Chapter 39

"Hi guys! What's shaking!" Ultra Girl said as the pretty blonde dropped into the group of armored crooks apparently trying to stage a break in.

"WASTE HER!" Raider yelled, hefting a blaster.

"Naughty naughty," Ultra Girl quipped as she punched him out.

There were six dudes, all wearing second hand combat gear. The Raiders were able to fly, there was a techno Samurai, the black 'Overlord' warsuit, a Beetle armor, a Grizzle Bear armor and a purple suit apparently called 'Risk.'

"Hyah!" Steel Samurai swung an energized blade.

Ultra Girl hopped back, then forced the guy's blade into the ground by stepping on it. As he struggled to free it, she slugged him.

The Overlord brought up it's wrist cannons and fired. Thankfully, Ultra Girl was tough enough that it's slugs wouldn't punch through her skin. Hurt though.

Ultra Girl charged him, punching the suit backwards. She then dug her fingers into the upper armor, tearing it upwards. The pilot was revealed, a young woman who looked VERY startled.

"Uh, hi?" she managed.

Casually Ultra Girl knocked her out.

"Screw this!" Beetle yelled, deploying wings and taking off.

"Coward!" Risk yelled angrily.

Thje huge Grizzly armor charged at Ultra Girl with a roar, swiping at her with a clawed hand. The blades actually drew blood, to Ultra Girl's surprise.

"Ha!" Risk laughed as that suit deployed arm blades, then both advanced on Ultra Girl.

"That actually hurt," Ultra Girl managed, though the bleeding was slowing quickly.

"Get her!" the Grizzly roared as the two charged.

Taking advantage of his huge bulk Ultra Girl got in close to Grizzly, then gut punched him hard. Even through the heavy armor, it staggered him, then she punched up hard, hitting him in the head with a stunning uppercut.

"Fuck," Risk cursed as their last ally fell. There was a moment when they seriously considered fighting on, then decided against it. Retracting the arm blades, thre sleek suit took off via boot thrusters and a backpack rocket.

Ultra Girl WANTED to fly after her, but honestly she hurt too much. "This SUCKED," she sighed, as police cars pulled in.

"DAMN it, I told them not to try anything," Carolyn Trainer bitched, sitting in one of the many LA coffee shops.

The brown haired scientist and criminal was checking the papers when the report on Ultra Girl's bust caught her eye. She had captured four fairly minor minions of Carolyn's, though more annoyingly the armor suits were seized too.

Luckily an expendable minion had recruited and armed them, but it was still annoying.

"Boss," Delilah nodded, the purple haired amazon shadowing her as usual. "Should we take them out?" she asked quietly as she brought their coffees over.

"They can't be traced back to me," Carolyn shook her head.

"Too bad. I could use some action," Delilah smiled.

Once again, Carolyn noted she didn't get a certain type of super criminal. "Joystick is in town," she mentioned a c-list villain, "if she acts up, beat her."

"Thanks boss," Delilah grinned.

Carolyn just shook her head.

"How long do we need to keep our heads down?" Delilah asked.

"Until Iron Man heads back east to New York," Carolyn noted.

"We could take him, surely," Delilah observed.

"We could, maybe," Carolyn conceded, "though he's been shown to be able to take out enemy tech. What if he shuts down my goons?"

"Point," Delilah conceded.

Back when criminals had apparently stolen Stark technology, Iron Man had used a device that fried enemy armors. As well, he could use his suit to generate an electromagnetic pulse, that could stop attacking suits cold.

"The other issue being, YES we could take him, but then the Avengers show up." Carolyn noted. "No ones' seen Thor for awhile, but if he turns up... or the other heavy hitters," she added.

"Be one hell of a fight though," Delilah grinned.

"Again, focus on business," Carolyn sighed. She continued, "Any news on our search for Amora the Enchantress?"

"No luck. I'm beginning to think the Tinkerer's scanner is garbage," Delilah said bluntly.

"Or Amora's magic is better than our tech," Carolyn sighed. She considered calling the search off, but... they needed to find her, damn it.

"I can call around and see if we can find a magic guy," Delilah offered. "Admittedly it's not my area, but..."

"We can look into it," Carolyn agreed.

"Ms. Sherman, thank you for your help," Rachelle Burroughs smiled warmly as the visited the teen in hospital.

Ultra Girl aka Susanna Sherman was there being treated for her knife wounds. Her superhuman biology had mostly already patched her up, but the doctors wanted to be sure.

"Oh, uh, you're welcome," Ultra Girl replied, wondering who this woman was. "And please, Ultra Girl in this outfit."

"Agent Burroughs, SHIELD," she showed her ID.

"Oh wow, SHIELD? That's so awesome," Ultra Girl gushed.

"Now, as I understand it you're a indy hero working in California," Rachelle noted, "correct?"

"Yeah," Ultra Girl pouted, "I tried to join Force Works, but they never called me back."

"So, how would you like to assist SHIELD, instead?" Rachelle took the opening and went for it.

"Really?" Ultra Girl yelped. "YES!"

'We should try recruiting teen heroes more often,' Rachelle found herself thinking. She issued the woman a SHIELD communicator, and promised she'd be in touch.

Rachelle left the facility, then got into her car. She took her own communicator and dialed.

"Rach," Victoria Hand replied, "how did it go?"

"Ultra Girl signed on," Rachelle said a bit smugly.

"Well done," Victoria hand replied.

Rachelle nearly squirmed in pleasure. She loved getting the boss' approval, and specifically found Victoria VERY hot. Sadly the woman didn't seem to notice, darn it.

"It was easier than I expected," Rachelle added. "Okay, what next?" she asked.

"Back to base, sorry to say," Victoria noted, "we're still trying to find AIM or Ms Erwin."

"Will do," Rachelle nodded, "want me to bring back lunch?" She added teasingly, "I remember what you like..."

"Uh.. please," Victoria said, then hung up.

"Oh poo," Rachelle sighed. She started her car as she wondered what skimpy outfit she could try tempting Victoria with...

Captain America was concerned, but generally speaking Steve Rogers was always concerned about SOMETHING. He lead the Avengers, helped SHIELD along with many other responsibilities, and it weighed on him.

'We really should get him a vacation,' Tony Stark found himself thinking to himself. Wryly he mused, 'Or get him laid.'

"So how serious is the AIM situation?" Cap asked. "We can take a team of Avengers in."

Tony mentally weighed things, then said, "I think just a six out of ten so far," he admitted. "AIM is up to something, but they're ALWAYS up to something."

"But this personally involves you," Cap noted, having been briefed on the Cly Erwin part of the whole mess.

"Again, AIM has never liked me, so... it doesn't change much," Tony shrugged.

"So you're staying on the West Coast until the AIM thing resolves?" Cap checked.

"Or to be bait and get them to jump me," Tony offered.

Cap frowned, but couldn't really argue the tactic. He had done it himself, a few times. He added, "Can that local team, Force Works, help?"

"I... haven't specifically asked them," Tony admitted.

"You don't trust Stane," Cap guessed. He sighed, "I'm sure she hasn't broken the law, or you'd already be going after her."

"Yeah, yeah," Tony sighed.

Cap decided not to push. "If things get out of hand, call," Cap ordered.

"I promise I will," Tony vowed.

Of course, both of them knew if something really bad happened, most of the current Avengers couldn't get out there quickly anyway...

To be continued...

Notes: Ultra Girl is, interestingly, a mutant Kree, which ties her into Warbird, who got her powers from Kree tech. She's also part of a Kree faction on earth, which I need to address at some point...
