"Another successful night of kicking foot clan butt ain't I'm right guys?" Michaelangelo said as he and his fellow brothers walked through the sewer line after having foiled another one of the foot's schemes
"Yeah although next time you should be more alert Mikey, you almost became swiss cheese" Leonardo said as they were put in quite the hard situation with the foot clan ninjas and the smugglers they were negotiating with all deciding to fight them
"It's not my fault if they suddenly decided to use automatic guns instead of ninja stars" Michaelangelo said as he was trained to dogde bullets, but that didn't mean he could dogde all of them
"It was a weapon deal, you should have expected them to burst the crates and grab anything that could kill us" Donnie said as they had discussed that exact situation prior to them busting the operation, but it seemed that Mikey did not pay attention...again
"Whatever, so who's up for Hawaiian pizza-" Mikey didn't finish as his foot slipped on something and made him fall to his butt
"Ouch..." Mikey said as he lifted himself, he didn't know that a bottle cap could be that painful to fall on it
"That's what you get for suggesting that" Raphael said as he giggled a bit from that, they all were trained to be skilled ninjas and yet Michaelangelo always found a way to look like anything but a ninja
"It is not as bad as you guys think" Mikey said as he cleaned himself from some dust and sewer sludge
"What did I even trip over?" Michaelangelo said as he looked down and picked over the thing that made him fall, seeing a book with a red cover that looked very long
"A book... boring" Mikey says as he tossed the book behind him without much thought, Donnie catches the book mid air with a disappointed look in his face
"Mikey, don't throw books away, it is disrespectful and ...huh?" Donatello stopped as he noticed something about the book in his hands, taking his glasses to do a quick scan of the object
"What is wrong Donnie?" Leonardo asked as Donnie seemed to be acting slightly abnormal just because of a simple book
"The book...is not wet or heck doesn't even have any sort of weird goo on it" Donnie said as he was very vocal about this fact, but he just got a confused look from his brothers
"So?" Michaelangelo ask's as he didn't see what was so weird about it, books are usually keep in good conditions and so why would that be different
"Mikey, we are in the sewers of New York City, the fact that this is in a perfect state is a statistical anomaly" Donnie said as it was impossible for such a thing to happen naturally, unless the book had been recently placed there which was very unlikely, this book should not be in such a good condition
"Or maybe you're overthinking this a little too much" Raphael said as it was usual for Donatello to suddenly overanalyze and complicate things just for the sake of making sense to scientific reasoning
"It's more than that, the cover and the way the pages have yellowed shows that this is at least a hundred years old, don't you think that is odd?" Donnie said as that did seemed odd to Leonardo but the blue turtle did not see any suspicious reason for the book to be here unless it was a plan of the foot but that didn't match their usual tactics
"Donnie, perhaps you had too much coffee before patrol, do you need something to chill out?" Raphael said as he found Donnie's interest in the book convoluted and kind of meaningless
"Tease me all you want, I'm going to do a quick analysis on this when we get to my lab and- Hey!" Donnie gets the book taken from his hand by Mikey
"Let's see... end of the world yada yada...four heroes are summoned to save it... yada yada wielding legendary weapons...this story is kinda cool, there's even a princess!" Michaelangelo said as he read the story in the book, not really focusing on the details
"Gimme that" Raphael said as he took the thing out of Mickey's hands and took a look at the story of the book himself
"Once every thousand years a world ending event called waves of catastrophe would come down to bring a end to the world, to combat the waves, four legendary heroes would be summoned. Looks like a pretty generic fantasy thing if you ask me"
"The bow hero has an strong sense of justice and holds his ideals firmly, known to jump into a fight without a plan, he is always ready to fight evil no matter how many mistakes he might make"
"Sounds like someone I know" Raphael said as he looked at Michaelangelo with a smug look
"The spear hero has a deep trust in his friends, his intelligence and ability to adapt quickly is one of his biggest strengths, he will come up with a plan of action to any challenge that may threaten the ones he loves."
"At least one of them is intelligent, most of this stories only have meat heads as protagonists" Donnie commented as usually books and stories like this had less than interesting protagonists, Donnie read the entire Sherlock Holmes series over and over again just because the main character didn't solve every problem with brute strength, it was rare to find intelligent characters for him to relate to in media
"The sword hero has possession of the greatest strength of all, with great power must come great responsibility and this hero has the discipline to utilize it as an destructive force, or as an uniting bond amongst his companions"
"Is this supposed to be the leader? That great power thing was ripped straight out of a comic book" Raphael joked since that seemed very lame
"It's not wrong if you ask me" Leo said but was ignored by his brothers as they had heard his talk about responsibility over a thousand times
"Finally there is the shield hero, who protects the ones that can't protect themselves and empowers the weak, despite his rude attitude and scary appearance, this hero has a heart of gold that will always use its strength to help"
"It kind of sounds like you Ralph, although a way more selfless and kind version of you" Mikey said as he wanted to get in a jab on his brother as well
"Whatever" Raphael said as he turned the next page just to see that it was completely blank, he turned to another and another but found the rest all completely without any words or pictures on them
"What the shell? It's blank" Raphael said as Donatello took the book out of his hands and analyzed it again, even more curious about it
"Bummer, I was curious to learn more about that princess" Michaelangelo said as just by the illustration of her, he could tell she was a bombshell
"Was the book unfinished?" Donnie said as he found that odd, although he rationalized that perhaps the chemicals of the sewers might have caused the ink in the book to degrade and that was why the pages had yellowed
"Maybe that's why it-" he stopped mid sentence as he saw a page with a detailed illustration... of them, the four brothers reading the mysterious book suddenly appear
"Is that us... Reading the book?" Leo asked as the four looked at the page to see a image of themselves reading the book, it felt like they had stumbled upon either on a magical book of sorts... or one of those cursed items in horror movies that always lead to terrible things, suddenly the page began to glow
"Jesus!" Raphael screamed as he threw the book away with Leo shooting a ninja star on it, the page stopped glowing and the book was submerged in the sewers water
"I think we just dodge a bullet on that one, right guys?" Michaelangelo said as he raised a hand to do a high five
"Mikey... your hand!" Raphael said as he pointed to Mickey's hand that was now glowing in a golden light
"Aaahh!" the orange turtle screamed out as he tried to shake whatever was in hand, only to see that it was actually spreading to his arm
"This is bad, this is really bad!" Ralph shouted as his feet began glowing before it began going up his legs
"Oh no..." Leonardo began to see his own chest glow with the same light, whatever was happening to them, it wasn't gonna be good at all.
"We are either being changed in the molecular level or we are being displaced out of our dimension or we have turned into living batteries or..." Donnie began rambling hypotheses in desperation as he tried using any device he had to try and find out what was happening and how to solve it, but his glowing hand goes right through the equipment
"Dudes I'm going to freak out!" Michaelangelo said in panic as his other hand began glowing and began to go up to his shoulders
"Everyone stay calm! We just have to solve this before anything gets worse or-" before Leo could finish, the four are completely engulfed in light and disappear
"Woooaaahhh!!!" the four turtles screamed as they falled down an endless hole of rainbow lights, barely able to move themselves as they did.
"Mikey if we survive this I'm going to kick your shell into the next week!" Raphael screamed out as they continued their fall until they approached a enormous glow that was either the end of this travel or the end for their lives
"O Brave heroes please save our world" a voice called out as Raphael began to recover his senses after waking up from the fall
"Ugh what the shell was that!?" the turtle said while getting up and as the lights began fading he could see that he was in some sort of dungeon and that a shield of sorts was strapped in his arm
"Tell me about it my head still spinning" Michaelangelo's voice came front the left, he scratched his head while lifting up
"This is definitely the result of some space and time distortion of sorts" Donatello said as he got up, analysing the environment before seeing the spear in his hand and focusing on that for a moment
"And it seems to have affected our weapons as well" he briefly comments while looking at the spear before seeing his usual staff was still in his shell, now he was wondering why this spear was with him
"Whatever this is I think these guys in front of us know something about it" Leonardo pointed to the robed figures, having located them as soon as he woke up from the fall
'what is this!? All the four heroes are demi humans!? This is the worst outcome possible!!' the robed man in the front thought, they were supposed to summon four human heroes but instead there was four gemmu beast men holding the legendary weapons
'it must have been the shield... I would smite them now and begin the ritual again if it hadn't drained my energy' the robed man thought as he tried to muster the magic power to cast a spell but he couldn't even feel the magic in his body from how draining the ritual was
"Hey you guys better start talking because I don't have the best time maintaining my temper" Ralph said slamming his fist's together, he wanted to know why they were in a magical glowing circle and why they were in a barely illuminated dungeon of sorts
"He's telling the truth there" Donnie added as he took his attention off the mysterious weapon in his hand to also look at the mysterious figures
"O-our king will provide you with answers great heroes p-please" he gestured them to follow him and after looking at each other, they agree
While they were passing through a window in the stairs, the turltes looked outside to see various green hills outside a large wall, with small buildings reminiscing of medieval Europe inside those walls
"This is definitely not New York" Ralph commented in an somewhat sarcastic way as he looked at the town below
"This place looks medieval, could it be that we are in the past?" Leo asked as this had happened before, being dislocated in space and time had happened to them before so it could be that was happening again
"It is a possibility but if that was true then Renet would have showed up by now" donnie said as he remembered thst most of the times they were displaced through the time string was either work of a time machine or because of Renet's intervention
"We could be in another universe like that time with that rabbit samurai" Ralph added, the possibility of this being an alternative universe was also very high
"Again, it is a possibility but I'm not sure if it is like when we meet Usagi" Donnie said as he took a small device from his belt that looked like a calculator and clicked on a few buttons 'hum...the molecular structure of the air is similar, as is this the stone and window... but the sensors are catching some sort of unknown energy wave in the entire perimeter...' Donnie thought as he theorized what was the nature of where they found themselves in
"I think we are inside the book dudes" Mikey suggested, the book told of heroes being summoned and that it had to do with some magical weapons, seeing as the four were holding said weapons, it only made sense if that was the case
"It did glow when we turned the blank page and the fact a drawing of us reading said book appeared just before we got teleported reinforces that" Ralph added, if he knew that book was some sort of magical teleporting thing, he would have thrown it in the sewer waters, although it might have just showed up to them again just like cursed items in movies and comics
"Well that too is-" Donnie was stopped by Leo who clapped his hands together, seemly fed up with the argument
"Let's first meet the king then we can discuss the circumstances of when and where we arrival" Leo ordered with determination. Whatever happened for them to get here was magical in nature, no doubt about that, but they have yet to understand why and surely the king who ordered said summoning would be able to explain this
As the four turtles and their guide approached a set of large doors leading to the largest section of the castle, they all knew what was ahead. The robed man turned to them. "Beyond this door lies our king, please try to show some respect" that was said as a plea and not an order, despite the guide's view of them. As the doors opened, a booming voice announced them.
"Now entering, the four cardinal heroes!" A guard from the other side shouted. As they entered the throne room, all eyes where on the four turtles brothers as the people gathered did not hide their shocked expression nor the few faces of disgust
"Why are they looking at us like that?" Mikey whispered to the others as he didn't get why they were looking at them this way, they summoned them right? why are they surprise?
"They were probably expecting humans, not giant turtles" Ralph whispered in reply to give the obvious answer to his oblivious brother
"… So, these are the four Cardinal Heroes?" a man said as his voice came from the other side of the room and he sit on the throne, this man was king Aultcray Melromarc XXXII and he was analysing the human like turtles, all of which had different colored bandanas on their heads
The one with a blue bandana was about the size of a normal human, maybe a bit taller. He had a stoic posture and a lighter shade of green compared to the others, looking into his eyes show to Aultcray that this one had the aura of a leader not unlike the one of a experienced guard captain
The one wearing a purple bandana was the second tallest who seemed to have some sort of welding glasses with colored lenses on top of his head and various objects in a belt around his waist, his posture was relaxed and his eyes had some cynical or unimpressed look. this attitude that the turtle seemed to have annoyed Aultcray but he ignored it
The smaller of them with the orange bandana seemed gullible and more cheerful than the others as he was probably the youngest amongst them, hopefully he would be more manipulable than the others or less skilled
But the one with a red bandana was the most menacing one of they, he was large, tall and had scars on his shoulders and one in his left eye along with a spiked shell. but that shield was all that matters, it was all that Aultcray needed to see for his blood to boil and his rage to grow, never the less he kept himself calm for the moment
"Very well, I am King Aultcray Melromarc XXXII." The king introduced himself to the four, was an older man donned in robes of cream and navy blue with detailing and trim of gold. Over that was an elegant cloak of a rich purple,his grey hair reached down to his shoulders with a trimmed grey beard,each of his fingers except for the pointer fingers was a gold ring with only the right index finger sporting a gem, purple in color. Upon his head was a gold crown with a lone purple gem on the center of it. The brothers looked at him while knelling down as to show respect, he was a king after all
"Now stated your names" said the king with each of the turtles raising up again, the sword wielding Leonardo went to introduce himself first
"My name is Leonardo" he said bravely to the entire court as he took a step forward and bowed to the king "And these are my brothers Donatello, Raphael and Michaelangelo" he said while pointing at the others who raised their hands when their names were called
"We would like to know where are we and why you brought us here" he concluded, the brothers wanted answers and hopefully the king would have the knowledge to do so 'they should have a good reason to summon us, or at least I hope it is a good reason'
"Very well, I suppose I owe you all an explanation. My country, Melromarc and the entire world is headed towards destruction. There is an apocalyptical prophecy in our world that tells the end of the world and ensures that a great wave will be the cause." spoke the king "If the waves cannot be stopped, then the world will be doomed and destroyed. The way we know the waves will start or end is thanks to an hour glass that every country has called the Dragon Hourglasses" The King continued.
"Our kingdom has already been attacked by one of the waves before any of you three were summoned... We had to fight them off with the help of our army and fellow adventurers, though despite our efforts, the second and third waves will be much more overwhelming and powerful than the latter, forcing us into a corner. The hourglass won't stop until all the waves are over and exterminated... it has been a month since the last wave occurred." the King gave a heavy sigh."We underestimated the waves. But now we know for sure only the heroes can defeat the waves. And so we invoked you, we had no choice."
After hearing this the brothers looked at each other for a brief moment and Ralph said "I'm sorry to hear that, so we got to stop this waves, but how exactly? This things don't look very strong" The red turtle spoke with the king had a look of anger towards ralph that he and Leo noticed, both thought he was angered by the question or the way he said it
't-this turtle demon has come to this great kingdom along with his false heroes to destroy Melromarc, I have no doubt' the king wanted them to be killed right there but he couldn't risk his wife knowing about it, even if she wasn't there he knew that one of her shadows might be
"By strengthening your cardinal weapons,they will grow along as you get stronger" he said with a blank expression as to not show his anger towards them
"I'll finish the conversation. Well heroes, I want you to confirm your statuses." the king asked, but the four turtles just raised their eyebrows
"Status?" Leo, Ralph and Mikey said as they were sounding confused.
"You mean if we are okay with it?"Mikey asked as he wasn't sure what he meant by statuses, he thought the king wanted their opinion on the whole thing
"I think I know what he is talking about" Donatello spoke as he had figure out what this status magic was. While the king explained about the waves, Donnie had noticed the small white cube in his vision and although at first he thought it was the UI from his glasses, he realized that he wasn't even wearing them to have it be displayed and as soon as he focused on it the box expanded into a whole menu completely different.
"There should be a icon in the bottom corner of your eye" Donnie explained, his brothers were able to find and focus in the small box with a window showing up as they did. it had their name, age, level, title and a bottom roll with other options including stats
When they went to see their stats it also showed some extra things to them, their power statistics to be exact

"At least I got some cool abilities up my sleeve, what about you guys?" Mikey asked his brothers, wanting to know if any of them had these perks
"I also have some abilities so they must be similar to all of us" Leo responded and the others gave a small nod in agreement
"Well abilities are cool and all but if attack means strength then I got to be the weakest" Ralph said disappointed as he found it weird and counter productive for this, he thought it was because of this shield, it must have been it, how was he supposed to fight with this? bash his shield against someone's skull and hope they pass out?
"Come on bro it's not like you have 1 of attack " mikey said sarcastically not noticing his brother annoyed expression
"That's exactly how much I have" he responded a bit angry at his sibling
"Oh my bad" mickey apologized but that didn't make Raphael less annoyed
"If you're are a tank then you should shield us from the incoming attacks while Mikey stays behind you and me while Leo goes in front for attacking..." Donnie said while calculating the most effective battle formation, this system seemed to work like a RPG so he would just have to deduct which roles each of them served and create a strong but flexible formation around it
"Yeah as long as we stick together nothing can st-"
"Well unfortunately that won't be possible" the king's advisor spoke up, interrupting Mikey
"The legendaries weapons will hinder each other's growth if they are together so it is better to form individual partys" the advisor explained with a notification screen appeared in front of leonardo's vision as he finished
[Attention: When two or more wielders of the legendary weapons operate together, it causes an adverse reaction in the weapons. Working separately is advised. The shell brothers passive skill can negate this effect but only for two heroes that are together at time.]
'so we can work together but only in in duo's? Since it's a effect of the shell brothers skill that we have I guess the king doesn't know about it' Leo thought to himself as he thought best to keep that a secret for now
"I will attempt to secure travel companions for you all. Regardless, evening draws near. Heroes, you should rest for the night and prepare for departure on the morrow. In the meantime, I will find talented fighters to form your parties." said the king, The brothers thanked the king before a maid with cat ears led them out of the throne room
She lead them to a room with four beds, four chairs and a singular round table in the middle of the room. After a couple minutes she brought them food and left.
"Dudes that maid was so into me" mikey said with a smug smile while laying in bed
"Yeah Mikey whatever you say" Donnie responded not paying much attention to what the others said as he tried to see how modified could his spear become
"I got admit the food was good but we can't lose focus now" Leo said as he sit on a chair and observes the legendary sword
"What about you Ralph? She was totally into me right" mickey asked but Raphael didn't seem to care one bit about Mickey's pointless romantics
"I'm still thinking how to get this attack up, being a brick wall is fine but I want to give some punch's in the mix" Raphael said frustrated about this penalty, he then began looking down on his waist to see his Sais
"Maybe I can-"
"Don't try it you can't use anything but the legendary weapon or else it will shock you" Donnie cut Raphael off as he had tried to wield his staff before and it had shocked him since staffs are considered a different weapon type than spears. A message appeared in front of Leo as he heard this
[You can only use your legendary weapon, any other weapon of a different type will be considered a violation of the legendary weapon]
"Frickin shell" Raphael cussed, he had already took his sai out but he also noticed that the gem on his shield glowed and when he put the sai closer to the gem it sucked the weapon beginning to glow
"What the shell is-" He stopped after the light disappeared and a shield that looked like his old weapon appeared

"It absorbed my Sai and then turned into this, it even raised my attack!" Ralph said excited as he punched the air
"It can convert existing mass into a new form to fit the weapon, we will need to run some tests with our weapons as well" Donnie began talking about the type of test they should do while grabbing the arm of Raphael with the shield to inspect it
"Hey knock it off" Raphael said as he pushed Donnie off his arm before he could use one of his weird machines to study him
"Huh, let me try something" Mikey says while picking up one of the shurikens out of his belt and putting in the bow's gem

"This is awesome! I'm gonna put more stuff inside of it" Ralph in excitement went to grab a book on the room's bookshelf
"We will have time for that tomorrow, let's go to sleep now" Leo said while getting up from the chair to lay on his bed
"On it bro!" mikey said dropping dead on the bed and starting snoring, his ability to do that seemly on command was as surprising as it was annoying
"He is right a well rested mind is a sharp mind and I intend on keeping mine very sharp" donatello followed to his bed but not before placing another device in the spear to get started on studying it's molecules, hoping to get a result by tomorrow
"Fine" Raphael said as he went to bed still holding the book
He looked to see the others sleeping and sneakily put the book inside the gem

this is the first chapter of the cardinal turtles and oh boy! it was really bad in comparison to my other ones, so I remade it to be more in line with how I write now. Before I was limiting myself and didn't really try to make any of my fanfics longer than 2 thousand words, but after writing the first chapter of the superman fanfic I just felt inspired to do more, to make things longer and more detailed which really helped my writing skills develop.
I made it more readable and longer but it might have some grammar errors as English is not my biggest strength
I will be upgrading all 10 chapters of this fanfic to be on this same standard of detail
