Day 15

I sat the jug of hot chocolate on the floor. All the snacks we had were on the floor. It was like the last dinner, but without Jesus Christ, and is being held over breakfast. We had cookies, chips and crackers. Lana's face was pale. She was in pain, but she kept smiling. We already told her about Lola, she was sad, but she didn't care about that thing anymore, we were all too jaded to death. It was like a chore to us now. "Thanks guys, but you shouldn't, I'm going to die anyway, what's the difference between me dying hungry or full, it's the same," Lana said. "Besides, you three are still alive,"

"It doesn't feel right to kill you without a proper send off," Luna said before slapping her own mouth. "That's fucked up, I'm sorry,"

"Now that's a fucked up sentence, but thank you, I appreciate it," Lana replied. Her leg was purple, the swelling made it look like a balloon animal. "To my death," Lana raised her mug of hot chocolate up.

"To your death!" We said in unison.

"I think we should rephrase that," Luna coughed as she took a sip of from her mug.

"The dying said it is alright, so sing it out! TO MY DEATH!" Lana shouted.

"To your death!" I cheered. I couldn't help but cry. How the fuck did it get to this? Why are we celebrating? "I'm sorry, it's kinda hard to not cry. Think about it, two weeks ago we were just kids, and today we're celebrating our sister's passing, well, sisters. If only-"

"Don't get philosophical on my funeral Lincoln, I'm trying to enjoy my last day," Lana said, deadpan. "Just try to enjoy the sugary treats in front of you," Lana threw a cookie at me.

"Cheer up Lincoln, it's the last day we're in here," Luna said with a smile on her face.

"Yeah," I replied as I grabbed the cookie Lana threw at me.

"Where are you guys going?" Lana asked.

"We don't know," Luna replied.

"That sounds like a good plan," Lana said sarcastically. "But really though, where are you guys going?"

"I heard that Europe's a nice place for a vacation, how about Ireland?" I asked.

"An Euro-Trip, sounds like a plan, we'd need a boat to go there though, and we have to learn how to operate it." Luna thought, her forehead furrowed.

"I can help you with that, go to my drawer, there's a red book, that'll teach you how to use, drive and maintain a seaworthy boat." Lana said with pride in her voice. I got up, and opened the drawer. I took out a red book, "BOATS" it said in front. "There's also a few books about repairs, and all that, you might need it." Lana continued.

"Where the hell did you learn to do that?" Luna asked before taking another sip.

"Gramps," Lana replied as she took a large sip straight from the jug.

"Thanks Lana," I said as I shoved the books in my bag.

"If you could go anywhere, where would you go?" Luna asked Lana with an awkward smile.

"The mud, probably. That's the only heaven I can ask for." Lana replied longingly. "How 'bout you sis?"

"If I could go anywhere in the world, it would be top of the music charts, that place sounds like fun." Luna replied as she lied down.

"I don't think they sell plane tickets there anymore Luna," I said jokingly.

"Aw fuck," She sighed jokingly. "Well you guys were my best crowd anyways, I guess I'm already there," She chuckled.

"How 'bout you Lincoln? Where would you go if you could go anywhere?" Lana asked me.

"If I could go anywhere? If you asked me this two weeks ago I'd say that I wanted to go to an arcade, but after everything we went through, there's nowhere on earth I'd rather be than with you guys," I said. Awkward silence ensued.

"Thanks Lincoln... But I didn't you were capable of saying such a cringy line bro!" Luna laughed, followed by Lana.

"Har har, laugh all you can, we're not having any this afternoon." I said as I emptied my mug.

"The jug's dry." Lana said. "I guess it's time to wrap up." Lana said as she dragged herself to Lola who's lying down unconscious on the mattress. She pulled Lola's head on her thigh, and she looked at us. "Thanks guys," Lana said.

I went to her and gave her a hug, "Bye Lana, we'll miss you." I said into her ears.

"I'll miss you too, Lincoln."

Luna went to her and gave her a hug too, "Bye Lans, I'll miss you,"

"Rock it Luna."

Luna stood up, and took the gun out of her jacket. "We love you Lana," Luna said as she aimed the gun to Lana's face.

"I love you guys too," Lana said as she closed her eyes. BANG! Lana's dead. BANG! Lola's dead. I looked at Luna's face. Tears were flowing down her eyes. Her mouth was still smiling but she was crying. I was too. She holstered the gun back in her jacket and she looked at me. "Guess it's time." She wiped her tears away.

We packed our bags, we wore our thick jackets. We dressed Lily up, and we stood there below the hatch. Luna was pouring gasoline Lana brought in all over the place. We don't want to leave them frozen like peas. It is hard to imagine that. We don't want that. I sat Lily in her baby carrier and I wore it. She was still in deep sleep. I smiled.

Luna threw the jerry can down. She zipped her jacket up. The spray can was tied to her belt. "Ready?" She asked me as she wore her backpack. Her acoustic guitar tide on her bag, she tighten the straps.

"Yeah," I replied.

She climbed up first, and then I did. As my face met the cold of the Michigan winter, I saw the afternoon sky. It was fresh. I turned around and I saw Luna lighting a match up. She threw it down, and I saw the flames shining bright from the hatch. Smoke rose from the hole. Luna turned and looked at me. I could see the tears in her eyes. She wiped it off.

"To the future I suppose," I raised my right arm in a dry cheer. I smiled.

Luna raised her right arm up, smiled, and she said, "To the future,"

The End
