A/N So... been a while. Sorry about that, but I am trying to update the stories that I left abandon. Hope you enjoy this chapter.

Chapter 5: Confusion

"I hope these two idiots weren't giving you too much of a hard time," Kim said as she sat down. "I tried to talk them out of the threats but…"

"We pointed out the numerous times that she gave the exact same speech to the people we started dating and decided to ignore her," Clarisse said with a chuckle.

"Mmm." Jared turned to Kim, "You're friends are terrifying." He said.

"They are," Kim said nudging Kayla in the arm. "But they mean well – for the most part anyway."

"Hey!" Kayla said annoyed, "I mean well all the time." She said with a chuckle. "Don't know about Clarisse though."

Clarisse in turn smacked Kayla upside the head, "Bitch."

"Yeah," Kayla said undeterred. "I am."

Jared looked at the two of them before shaking his head, "So…" Jared said, "When exactly are the two of you heading back home?"

Kayla grinned at Jared, "Eager to get rid of us?" She asked looking amused.

"No." Jared said, "Just… wondering how long you'll be staying in Forks."

"Ehh. Depends on how long the local Hotel can rent a room out for us." Clarisse said., "Though given the amount of Money Kayla has squirreled away I wouldn't be surprised if she could rent multiple rooms at a time."

Kayla rolled her eyes. "Clarisse exaggerates."

"Not by much."

"By a lot." Kayla huffed, "I ain't that rich."

"Sure, she's not," Clarisse said taking a bite of her food. "I thought you hated lying?"

"I do." Kayla huffed, "I'm not lying, You just like overexaggerating."

"It's okay Kayla." Kim said fondly wrapping an arm around her shoulders, "We love you anyway."

Kayla rolled her eyes, "How did we become friends anyway?"

"You ran up toward me while I was in the middle of one of my rages and decided we were friends." Clarisse said bluntly."

Kayla laughed, "Think that was Kim."

"Nope." Kim said cheerfully, "I'd learned by that point to leave Clarisse alone. You were the only one dumb enough and brave enough to bother Clarisse."

Jared looked at them confused, Kim smiled at him and explained, "Kayla and I were friends first, Clarisse kind of got dragged into our friend group."

"How did you and Kayla become friends then."

"We shared a cabin at Camp for three days before I got moved out to somewhere else." Kayla said, "Kim and I bonded in that short time and the friendship lasted even after I was moved out."

"Ahh." Jared said, "Why were moved out of the cabin into another one."

"Cabin was too crowded." Kayla said, "And they found I fit in better with another cabin."

"It's complicated." Kim cut in when it looked like Jared was going to ask a question.

Jaren stared at everyone confused, he looked as though he had a million more questions to ask but decided to wait until he had a moment alone with Kim before he asked them.

Kim smiled when she noticed his confusion and patted his hand. "I'll explain later" She whispered.

They kept talking throughout the meal, Kim, Kayla, and Clarisse keeping the topics light and interesting. Mainly they just discussed school and how their classes were going.

"Dyslexia sucks." Kayla mildly complained.

"Tell me about it." Kim said for a moment Jared was confused before he remembered that Kim was also dyslexic, "Like reading comes so simply to everyone else but me? Takes me twice as long to read half as well as everyone else."

"Teachers think you're lazy." Kayla complained, "When in reality you are trying so hard, and the words just aren't getting easier to read."

"Which is why Gym is my favourite subject." Clarisse said, "No need to worry about reading or dyslexia or anything like that, just me and my body."

"True," Kayla said. "I just wish the people determined my intellect wasn't tied to my ability to read, because I am smart just… not in that way."

"You are," Kim said softly. "You're ability to retain anything you hear is amazing."

Kayla smiled and blushed. "Thank you. Kim." She said.

"Aren't you also dyslexic?" Jared asked.

"Everyone at this table is dyslexic." Clarisse cut in "Cept for you."

Kim laughed, "Yeah… summer camp for us Dyslexic kids."

"And ADHD," Kayla said smiling as though she told her own private joke.

Jared looked at them confused. "I feel like I'm missing something."

Kayla jumped as though she'd been kicked before she smiled apologetically, "I'm just being silly." Kayla said before she stood, "Clarisse and I should probably go secure a room in a hotel if the two of us are going to be staying for a few days."

"You're staying in Forks?" Jared asked.

"Mmmhmm."

"You didn't think we came all this way only to stay for a few hours, did you?" Clarisse asked rolling her eyes, "Haven't seen Kim in months." She said.

"Missed out on a lot of girl time," Kayla said.

"Guys," Kim said.

They stopped teasing.

"Let's go," Kayla said nudging Clarisse who glared at her. "Let's see if I can secure two separate rooms for us. I know how much you love your privacy."

Clarisse rolled her eyes but followed Kayla out the door, the two of them bickering as they left.

"They didn't scare you too badly, did they?" Kim softly asked the moment they were out of the restaurant.

"No. They just want to make sure you're ok. I can respect that." Jared said wrapping his arms around Kim. "I'm happy if you're happy."

Kim laughed and flushed. "I'm glad." She said. "Still, if you want, I can tell them to back off."

"No. I'm a werewolf sweetheart, I can handle whatever your friends throw at me."

Kim raised an eyebrow in disbelief which offended him a little.

"You don't think I can handle your friends."

Kim shrugged, "It's not that. Just that my friends are a lot tougher than they appear to be. They're not the average schoolgirls. Especially Clarisse, if you hadn't noticed she's built like a tank and is about as tough as one. And Kayla may look slim and not a threat but she's the best archer I know. She has the best hand-eye coordination out of everyone I've ever met. If you give her a projectile weapon she can and will waste, you with it."

"Archery?" Jared said amused. "She good with a gun."

Kim rolled her eyes and pushed him slightly. "I'm serious. My friends are not ones you should mess with."

Jared wrapped his arms around her immediately contrite. "I'm sorry." He said kissing her temple. "I'll do my best not to provoke them needlessly."

Kim smiled and kissed him back. "Good." She said. "Now come on. I had a couple hours till curfew, and I have a few ideas on how to spend it."

Jared raised an eyebrow. "Oh? And how exactly should we spend it?"

Kim just laughed grabbed his hands and pulled him away, "You'll see."

A/N SO... Jared's confused, but he seems to at least understand where her friends are coming from.
