This is it everyone, the last chapter is here. I've had such an incredible time writing these two Harry Potter fics in the passed few months.
Happy reading.
Chapter 16: The Shattered Pact
Their journey through the moonlit streets of Hogsmeade continued, the silence between them occasionally punctuated by Erik's casual comments, all designed to preserve the illusion that Kavya was simply enjoying a pleasant evening stroll.
However, as they passed the dimly lit, deserted shops and buildings, Kavya's inner battle raged on. She felt like an observer within her own body, trying to resist the imperious commands compelling her every step. A small voice in the back of her mind whispered that she needed to find a way to break free from this curse.
Kavya and Erik continued their stroll, they drew closer to the dimly lit and mostly deserted Hogshead Inn since it was after hours. The very thought of entering the establishment filled Kavya with dread, but she couldn't do anything about it. The grip of the Imperus Curse had such a tight hold on her.
The entrance to the inn loomed before them, and Kavya took a deep breath, her inner strength welling up. "Erik," she said, her voice unsteadies, "I just remembered that I promised Tom, I would meet him after I danced with you."
Erik, his voice remaining deceptively calm, replied, "Kavya, I think Tom will understand if you spend a little more time with me. We can join him later."
Kavya tried to fight the control of the curse that was on her. The more she struggled to go against Erik's wishes the more it was difficult to break free.
"But…I promised him…" Kavya urged him.
Her plea held a hint of urgency, and Erik hesitated for a moment, his control over her wavering. He couldn't afford to lose her now, not when he was so close to fulfilling his mission.
"But Kavya," he began, his voice almost pleading, "I... I need you with me. There's something important I have to discuss, something that concerns you as well."
Kavya's brow furrowed in confusion, her mind still battling against the imperious influence. "What... What could be so important?"
Erik's eyes darted around, searching for a way to regain the upper hand. He couldn't let Kavya slip through his fingers. "It's... it's about Tom," he said, desperation creeping into his voice. "There's something you need to know."
The mention of Tom sent a jolt through Kavya. Her thoughts were still clouded, but the mention of his name stirred something deep within her. "What about Tom?"
Erik seized on this glimmer of hope. "It's... complicated," he replied, choosing his words carefully. "But you need to trust me, Kavya. We need to talk about this, just you and me."
Kavya's struggle continued, but a seed of doubt had been planted. Her concern for Tom warned with the imperious command, creating a chaotic storm within her.
Erik stopped in front of the Hogshead Inn and opened the door. "We'll discuss things in here." He told her.
Kavya followed Erik into the dimly lit inn, the uncertainty of the situation gnawing at her. The interior was shrouded in shadows, the atmosphere heavy with secrecy. Her heart raced, and she couldn't shake the feeling that she was stepping into a world where trust and danger were interwoven.
As the door closed behind them, Erik's demeanor shifted. He spoke softly, the urgency in his voice more evident. "Kavya, we don't have much time. I need to talk to you about something important, something that concerns Tom."
Kavya's eyes flickered with a mixture of fear and curiosity. Her voice was cautious as she replied, "What do you mean, Erik? What's going on?"
Erik hesitated for a moment, as if choosing his words with care. "Tom has been acting strangely, Kavya. There are things you don't know about him, things that could put you in danger."
Kavya's brow furrowed with concern. "What things, Erik? You can't just make cryptic statements like that without explaining."
Erik leaned closer, his voice a low whisper. "Kavya, you need to understand that Tom... Tom might not be who you think he is. He's involved in something dark, something that threatens our world. Grindelwald's followers are watching him, and you're caught in the middle."
Kavya's heart pounded in her chest as she absorbed Erik's words. Her loyalty to Tom battled with the fear that had taken hold of her. "You've been spying on us, haven't you?" The curse on her lifted as she stood back.
Erik took a step back, realizing that the Imperius Curse had lost its grip on Kavya. He nodded somberly, his eyes filled with a complex mixture of concern and determination. "I've been keeping a watchful eye on Tom because I had no choice."
Kavya's expression was a whirlwind of emotions, and the revelation about Erik's surveillance left her feeling exposed and conflicted. "You should have told me, Erik. We could have faced this together."
Erik's voice was tinged with regret. "I was trying to gather enough information to be certain. It's a dangerous world out there, and I didn't want to involve you until I had concrete evidence."
Kavya's fear for Tom remained, but a new resolve had taken hold. "What do you want with Tom?"
Erik hesitated for a moment, choosing his words carefully. "We want Tom to join our cause. He has the potential to be a great asset, just like you do, Kavya. He's intelligent, ambitious, and he can help us reshape the wizarding world. All we need is for him to see the bigger picture and understand the importance of our mission."
Kavya's eyes narrowed as a mix of anger and determination overcame her fear. "You're trying to manipulate him. You're using me to get to him."
Erik's expression softened, revealing a glimmer of genuine concern. "Kavya, it's not just about manipulation. It's about the future, about making our world better for all witches and wizards. Grindelwald's vision is one of unity and strength, where we don't have to hide who we are."
As they continued to converse, a sense of urgency gnawed at Kavya. She couldn't help but feel that time was running out, that the darkness that threatened to consume her world was closing in. And then, without warning, the atmosphere in the inn basement shifted.
The air grew heavy, and shadows seemed to deepen. Kavya's heart quickened as several hooded figures, their faces concealed, entered the dimly lit space. She recognized them immediately as Grindelwald's followers, each radiating an aura of fanaticism.
Erik raised a hand, his voice filled with authority. "This is Kavya, someone I believe can be an ally to our cause. She understands the importance of our mission. But she has concerns about Tom's involvement."
The leader of the followers, a tall, imposing figure, stepped forward. "And where is this Tom you speak of?" His voice was cold, and it sent shivers down Kavya's spine.
Erik quickly explained, "Tom is not here right now, but he'll come in due time. After all we have something very precious that belongs to him."
Kavya glared a little at Erik. How could she have been so foolish to trust him?
Tom trekked on the snowy ground to Hogsmede. With all the great things he accomplished he should have seen this coming. However, he didn't, and it cost him something extremely important to him. He hated this feeling of helplessness. He thought after coming to Hogwarts he wouldn't have to struggle as much as he did.
The path ahead was dark and uncertain, mirroring the turmoil in Tom's mind. He had always considered himself to be in control, to have a plan for every circumstance. But the revelation that Kavya had been ensnared under the Imperius Curse, and that she was being used as leverage to draw him into Grindelwald's cause, had shaken him to his core.
Tom's footsteps echoed in the quiet, snowy streets of Hogsmeade, muffled by the thick layers of snow. The soft glow from the windows of the various shops and inns seemed like a cruel mockery of the chaos that was unfolding within him.
His thoughts swirled like a turbulent cauldron. How had things taken such a dark turn? Kavya was the one person who had accepted him, who had seen the potential for greatness within him, and she had been swept into a dangerous game of manipulation and power. Tom's determination to protect her grew stronger with every step he took, but it was entwined with a sense of dread. What lengths would he have to go to in order to rescue her?
Tom couldn't help but feel the weight of his own ambition pressing down on him. His relentless pursuit of power had left him isolated, with few allies he could truly trust. His secrecy and obsession with the dark arts had created an insurmountable chasm between him and those who cared about him.
He paced around in the snow ground that led to the path towards Hogsmeade. His mind a whirlwind of conflicting thoughts and emotions. The weight of his actions bore down on him like an oppressive force, threatening to suffocate his very soul. The path he had chosen, the one that promised ultimate power and immortality, had led him to this dark crossroads.
As he walked, he couldn't help but hear the echoes of his own mind, a stark reminder of the choices he had made and the reasons that had driven him to this point. His voice, low and contemplative, whispered to him like a haunting mantra.
"Power," he began, his tone a mixture of longing and apprehension. "I've always craved it, lusted for it. It was the one constant in my life, the promise of greatness and control over the world around me." Each step he took echoed the cadence of his words.
His footsteps echoed in the cavernous chamber of his own mind, a solitary journey that had led him to the place where he now stood, teetering on the precipice of darkness. "But power is a double-edged sword," he mused, "it can elevate or corrupt, and in my pursuit of it, I've allowed the darkness to seep into my very being."
His path had been marked by secrecy and deception. "The secrets I've kept," he whispered, "hidden even from those closest to me, have become shackles, binding me to a destiny I'm not sure I ever truly chose." Tom knew that his obsessions had come at a great cost, one that was now painfully clear.
The chasm between his ambitions and his relationships had grown insurmountable. "The people who cared about me," he admitted with a heavy heart, "those who saw something beyond my ambition, they've been pushed away. I've alienated myself from those who could have been my allies." His voice wavered with a mixture of sorrow and regret.
His fingers clenched into fists, a physical manifestation of the turmoil within him. "Isolation," he said with a bitter edge, "that's the price I've paid. The path of darkness is a solitary one, and I've walked it willingly, turning away from those who could have stood by my side." The words weighed on him, like chains dragging him further into the abyss.
As he continued to pace, a sense of urgency crept into his voice. "But Kavya," he said, his tone shifting, "she believed in me. She saw a light within, even when I was consumed by the shadows. She never wavered in her loyalty, and now she's been ensnared in this web of manipulation." Tom's jaw clenched as he thought of Kavya, a mix of anger and determination welling up within him.
His footsteps quickened, the rhythm of his mind mirroring the acceleration of his thoughts. "I can't let this stand. I won't allow Kavya to become a pawn in their game." His voice held a fierce determination. "I have to act, to use the darkness I've embraced against them, and to free her from this curse."
His internal struggle had reached its crescendo. "This is the moment that defines me," he declared with unwavering resolve. "The path I choose now will determine the kind of wizard I become, whether I descend further into darkness or find a way to ascend from it." His voice was resolute, and his actions would now reflect his commitment to reclaim the light that had been lost.
As he steeled himself for the confrontation ahead, he knew that the battle was not just for Kavya's freedom but for his own redemption. The choices he would make in the coming moments would shape the destiny he had always envisioned for himself, and he was determined to emerge from this crucible stronger and truer to the ideals he held dear.
The leader of Grindeldwald's followers eyed Kavya and Erik suspiciously, his followers gathered around him like a pack of wolves. "Precious, you say? You better not be wasting our time, or you'll both regret it."
Erik, realizing the precarious situation they were in, maintained his composure. "I assure you; the boy is valuable to your cause. I've already told you he is a parselmouth. his thirst for power rivals Grindelwald's."
The followers exchanged knowing glances, and some of the hostility in the leader's eyes seemed to soften. He leaned in, a sinister grin stretching across his face. "Well, that's certainly interesting."
Kavya's anger flared again. She couldn't believe Erik had revealed such a crucial detail about Tom. It was clear that Erik was using Tom's unique ability as leverage to gain favor with Grindelwald's followers.
The followers, though still menacing, began to talk amongst themselves, discussing the potential value of recruiting Tom. Kavya felt a growing sense of dread. She had to find a way to escape this situation and warn Tom. But the followers had her outnumbered, and she was trapped in their sinister web.
While the conversation continued among the followers, Kavya's mind raced. She needed to buy some time and hope for an opportunity to escape. With a sudden burst of courage, she interjected, "You should let Erik and me go. We can bring Tom to you. But you need to promise that no harm will come to him."
The leader turned his attention back to Kavya, a cruel grin on his face. "Ah, trying to make deals, are you? You've got spirit, girl. But you're in no position to negotiate."
Kavya slowly moved back, her hand on her wand as the leader slowly closed in on her. She could make a run for it. A simple curse and she would be out of this dismal situation.
"Exspellamus!" One of Grindelwald's followers shouted disarming Kavya of her wand. "We won't have any of that my dear."
Kavya's heart raced as her wand was forcibly disarmed. Panic surged through her, but she stood her ground, refusing to let the fear show on her face. The leader's grip on her chin tightened, his fingers cold and clammy against her skin.
"You're a pretty one, aren't you?" he sneered, his breath rancid with the scent of something foul. Kavya's skin crawled, and she fought the urge to recoil. This man was repulsive, and every fiber of her being screamed at her to get away from him.
Erik, sensing the escalating tension, stepped forward, his voice oozing with false charm. "Now, now, there's no need for any of this. We're here to help, after all. Let's not forget our common goal."
The leader's eyes flicked towards Erik, his grip on Kavya relenting slightly. "You're right," he mused, releasing Kavya from his grasp. "We do have a common goal. But make no mistake, crossing me would be the last thing you ever do."
Kavya fought to suppress a shiver as she took a step back, putting a bit more distance between herself and the leader. Erik's attempt to diffuse the situation had bought them a small reprieve, but they were still perilously close to danger.
Erik, undeterred, continued to play the diplomatic card. "We understand the importance of your cause, and we're willing to do whatever it takes to prove our loyalty. Just give us the time we need, and we'll deliver Tom Riddle into your hands."
The leader's gaze bore into Erik, assessing him with a calculating stare. After a tense moment, he finally nodded, though his expression remained steely. "You have until the next full moon. If Tom Riddle isn't here by then, you'll both face the consequences."
Kavya's fear and anger swelled within her as they were dismissed from the basement. She knew that their only chance to protect Tom was to find him as quickly as possible.
She looked at Erik. "I thought you were our friend, Erik!" She shouted at him.
Erik met Kavya's gaze, his expression torn between guilt and determination. "Kavya, I am your friend, but there are things you don't understand. I had no choice in this." He told her honestly.
Kavya's frustration and fear boiled over. "By betraying us?! By using the Imperius Curse on me!?"
Erik's eyes wavered with remorse, but he stood his ground. "I didn't want to do it, Kavya, but I had to get Tom's attention. You know how stubborn he can be." He walked over to Kavya and gently held her hand. "Grindelwald's followers are very dangerous. They used to be poachers for Rookwood. I know what they're capable of and if I don't deliver Tom to them. We could be dead."
Kavya scoffed pulling her hand away from him. "Why would you ally yourself with people like them?!"
"Because they gave me purpose…" Erik replied with a dismissive glance to the group by the door.
"Gave you purpose?" Kavya asked. "What do you mean?"
Erik hesitated, his gaze shifting to the ground. He had never shared this part of his life with Kavya or anyone else at Hogwarts. "I didn't come from a family like yours, Kavya. I grew up on the fringes of society, struggling to survive. Grindelwald's followers offered me a chance to belong, to be part of something greater."
Kavya's anger was replaced by a flicker of empathy. "Erik, I understand that you had a difficult past, but this isn't the way. You can't trade our safety for your sense of belonging."
Erik's eyes met Kavya's, his regret palpable. "I know, Kavya. I should have found another way. But now that we're in this, I promise I'll do everything in my power to keep you safe."
As they spoke, the leader of Grindelwald's followers, having grown impatient, approached them again. His gaze fell on Erik, and he spoke in a voice like ice. "Erik, is there a problem here?"
Erik shook his head, his expression resigned. "I just need more time to convince her to cooperate, sir."
The leader's lip curled into a cold smile. "Time is a luxury we don't have, Erik. We'll be watching closely."
With that, he turned and rejoined his companions, leaving Kavya and Erik with a growing sense of dread.
Kavya clutched the blood pact necklace around her neck. She was anxious without Tom and being with these people terrified her.
Tom was standing in front of the locked door of the Hogshead Inn. His wand drawn.
Tom's heart was pounding as he stood before the locked door of the Hogshead Inn, his wand at the ready. The situation had taken a dark turn, and he was determined to find Kavya and get her out of harm's way. The blood pact necklace around his neck throbbed with a sense of urgency, reinforcing his resolve.
His thoughts were racing, a turbulent mix of fear for Kavya and anger towards Erik for his betrayal. Tom had never felt this level of desperation, and it fueled his magic. With a flick of his wand, the door swung open, and he entered the dimly lit inn.
Inside, the atmosphere was tense, and he could sense the presence of dark magic. Grindelwald's followers were no strangers to danger, and Tom knew he had to be cautious. As he ventured further into the inn, he couldn't help but feel the weight of his secrets. He had to find Kavya, but at the same time, he couldn't let Grindelwald's followers uncover the truth about his Horcruxes.
As Tom descended into the dimly lit basement of the Hogshead Inn, his wand held firmly in his hand, the tension in the air thickened. Grindelwald's followers turned their attention to him, the leader's grip on Kavya's arm loosening slightly as he shifted his focus to the new threat.
The leader's tall and imposing figure with piercing eyes, addressed Tom with a hint of amusement in his voice. "Well, well, if it isn't our uninvited guest. You must be Tom, I presume?" His tone was laced with a chilling undertone that sent shivers down Kavya's spine.
Tom's eyes never left Kavya, and his voice was steely with determination. "Release her. You have no business with her."
The leader's lips curled into a sinister smile. "Oh, but we do, Tom. We have business with anyone who stands in the way of our cause. And you, young man, have made quite a name for yourself."
Kavya's eyes darted between Tom and the menacing leader, her heart pounding with fear. She couldn't bear the thought of being used as leverage against Tom, and she knew that her involvement in their dangerous world had put her in grave danger.
The man seemed unfazed by Tom's threat, and he turned his attention back to Kavya. With a cruel smile, he gripped her chin, tilting her face up to look at him. "Isn't she such a pretty thing? It would be a shame if something tragic were to happen to her."
Kavya felt a shiver run down her spine at the man's touch. She couldn't hide her nervousness, but her determination to protect Tom kept her from showing too much fear.
Tom's anger simmered, his voice low and dangerous. "I'll ask you one more time. Release her."
The leader finally let go of Kavya, but he didn't back down. "You're in no position to make demands, Mr. Riddle."
Tom mentally winced as the leader of Grindelwald's group said his name muggle last name so casually. He hated that feeling. The name that tied him to his father who abandoned him. It angered him greatly to be reminded of such a farce.
The tension in the room was palpable, and the other followers watched with a mix of curiosity and wariness. They did not know of Tom's power. They were underestimating him greatly.
Kavya tried to take a step closer to Tom and tried to reach for her wand that was on the floor. The leader gripped her arm tighter causing her to wince. "Tom, be careful." She told him as she watched the rest of Grindelwald's followers surround him.
The leader seemed to enjoy the stand-off, his eyes gleaming with malice. "I'm sure we can come to an arrangement, Mr. Riddle. You have something we want."
Tom's gaze never wavered from the man. "And what is it you want?"
The leader's grin widened, and he gestured toward Kavya. "We want you to join us, to become a part of something greater. Grindelwald himself sees potential in you."
Tom's brow furrowed, his mind racing. He had heard of Grindelwald's ambitions, and the thought of aligning with such dark forces wasn't even interesting to him. He'd rather become better than Grindelwald. A powerful force to be reckoned with.
The leader seemed to grow impatient with Tom's silence. "Time is running out, Mr. Riddle. Grindelwald is not a patient man. Join us, and we can make you powerful beyond your wildest dreams."
Tom's grip on his wand tightened. "And if I refuse?"
The leader's expression darkened, and his voice turned cold. "Then we will take what we want by force."
In that moment, the room erupted into chaos as spells and curses flew in all directions. Grindelwald's followers and Tom engaged in a fierce battle, while Kavya did her best to stay safe. She quickly grabbed her wand off the floor. She watched Tom battle Grindelwald's followers. She raised her wand ready to cast a shield around him, but she saw that Tom's meticulous and precise wand movements made it, so he didn't need protection.
Sparks of magic filled the air as the fight raged on. Tom's determination and power were evident, but the followers were no slouches, and the battle could go either way.
Kavya's thoughts raced as she cast protective spells and curses, her loyalty to Tom unwavering. She knew that the outcome of this confrontation could change the course of their lives forever.
Amidst the chaos, the room was filled with shouting, the clashing of wands, and the occasional cry of pain. Tom's resolve was unyielding, and he knew he had to protect Kavya at all costs. The bond of the blood pact necklace pulsed against his skin, a constant reminder of his commitment to her.
Erik, caught during the chaos, took cover behind a nearby table. Fear and regret coursed through him as he watched the battle unfold. He had never anticipated that it would come to this, that his actions would lead to such violence.
Tom's powerful magic was evident as he deflected curses and sent his own spells with precision. His focus remained on Kavya's safety, and he moved swiftly to ensure her protection. With a flick of his wand, he created a shield to block an incoming curse, then turned to check on Kavya.
Erik, on the other hand, watched from his hiding place with a sense of helplessness. He had underestimated the extent of Grindelwald's followers' loyalty to their cause, and he now understood the danger he had put both Kavya and Tom in. Regret gnawed at him, and he knew he had to make amends.
As the battle raged on, the room began to show signs of damage. Tables and chairs lay toppled, and the walls bore scorch marks from the magical duels. But Tom's determination was unwavering, and he continued to press forward.
One of the followers, a tall and menacing figure, attempted to strike Kavya from behind. But before the curse could land, Tom reacted with lightning speed. His protective instincts took over, and he swiftly incapacitated the attacker. The man crumpled to the floor, his wand falling from his grasp.
Tom turned to Kavya, his eyes filled with concern. "Are you alright?"
Kavya, though shaken, nodded. "I'm fine, Tom. But we have to end this."
As the followers lay incapacitated and defeated, the room was filled with a heavy silence. Tom's grip on his wand remained firm, his senses on high alert as he scanned the room for any signs of movement.
Moments later, the door to the basement was blasted open, and a group of Aurors led by Sebastian Sallow stormed in. Their wands were at the ready, and their expressions were stern and determined. They quickly assessed the situation and moved to secure the defeated followers.
He approached Tom and Kavya. His sharp eyes surveyed the room, and he nodded in approval. "What happened here?" He asked.
Tom inclined his head in acknowledgement but kept his wand at the ready. "We need to ensure that none of them escape. They are loyal to Grindelwald, and they won't go down without a fight."
Sebastian nodded in agreement, his eyes never leaving the followers. "Rest assured, we'll handle them from here."
As the Aurors proceeded to secure the followers, Kavya's relief was palpable. The presence of the Ministry's law enforcement brought a sense of security. She stepped closer to Tom, her voice trembling with emotion. "We did it, Tom. We're safe now."
Tom's gaze softened as he turned to her, his hand reaching out to gently touch her cheek. "Yes, Kavya, we're safe. I won't let anything happen to you."
Sebastian approached the captured followers, his wand raised and his voice commanding. "You are under arrest for your association with Gellert Grindelwald and your participation in dangerous activities."
The followers, defeated and disarmed, were led away one by one, their loyalty to Grindelwald seemingly unshaken even in the face of arrest. The enigmatic leader who had harassed Kavya was among them, his expression defiant.
Sebastian, a consummate professional, turned to Tom and Kavya. "You have my thanks for your assistance, but this is an ongoing matter. We have reason to believe that Grindelwald's cause is slowly being dismantled overseas by Newt Scamander and Albus Dumbledore."
"Looks like they won't be causing anyone any more trouble." Kavya watched as Grindelwald's followers were being led out the door.
Erik, still huddled under the table, caught Sebastian's eyes.
"What's with him?" Sebastian asked. "Is he with you?"
Tom wanted nothing but to rat Erik out for what he had done to Kavya.
"He's…our friend." Kavya spoke up.
Sebastian regarded Erik with a mix of suspicion and curiosity. "Your friend, you say? Well, it seems he's not a follower of Grindelwald, at least." He signaled to another Auror, who approached to assist with securing the remaining members of Grindelwald's group.
Erik nervously glanced at Tom and Kavya. The last place he wanted to be was in Azkaban.
As Sebastian and the rest of the Aurors left with the remainder of Grindewald's followers, Tom turned towards Erik, his wand aimed at him.
His voice filled with a mixture of anger and disappointment. "Explain yourself, Erik. What have you gotten us into!?"
Erik took a deep breath, his gaze faltering. "I've been working with them, trying to gain information. But I underestimated their loyalty to Grindelwald. I thought I could use Kavya as leverage to get you to join them."
Tom's anger flared, and he advanced on Erik. "You used Kavya as bait!? Do you understand the danger you put her in!?"
Erik's eyes held a sense of remorse. "I didn't want this to happen, Tom. I didn't want anyone to get hurt."
That wasn't good enough for Tom. Firmly he gripped his wand and yelled, "Crucio!"
Tom's use of the Unforgivable Curse sent a bolt of pain through Erik, causing him to crumble to the floor. The room seemed to vibrate with the raw energy of the curse, and Kavya gasped in shock, her hands flying to her mouth. She had never seen Tom resort to such dark magic.
"Tom, stop!" Kavya rushed to pull him back. She grabbed his wrist gently holding it and she looked at him with pleading eyes not to cast any more of the unforgivable curses.
Tom's eyes were filled with fury, but he withdrew the curse, leaving Erik writhing in pain on the ground. Erik's groans echoed in the dimly lit basement.
Erik, his body still recovering from the effects of the curse, gasped and then said, "So, you are studying dark magic."
Kavya looked at Tom. "What's he talking about?"
Tom's anger had not completely subsided, but the revelation about his Horcrux research shocked him. He had been careful, or so he had thought. The fact that Erik had discovered his secret was disconcerting, and it stirred a storm of emotions within him.
Erik, now propped up on one elbow, looked at Kavya and admitted, "I've been watching Tom, especially when he's in the library. He's been studying dark magic, dark objects... and Horcruxes."
Kavya's eyes widened, her expression a mix of confusion and concern. "Horcruxes?! Tom, is this true?"
Tom's gaze met Kavya's, and he realized he couldn't hide from the truth any longer. He had been on a dark and dangerous path, and the burden of his secrets was beginning to crush him. With a heavy sigh, he nodded.
"Yes, Kavya, it's true. I've been researching Horcruxes, magical objects that can hold a piece of a person's soul, making them immortal. It's a dark and forbidden branch of magic."
Kavya's shock and worry were evident in her eyes. "Tom, why? Why would you get involved in something like that?"
Tom's voice was filled with regret. "I sought power and immortality. I thought it was the only way to achieve greatness. I want to be the best and most powerful wizard the world has ever known."
"How could you keep something like this for me?!" Kavya was outraged and sad. She held out the blood pact necklace in front of him. "Did I mean nothing to you this entire time?!"
Tom's eyes met Kavya's, and he reached out to gently touch the blood pact necklace, a symbol of their unbreakable connection. "Kavya, you mean everything to me. It's because of my love for you that I wanted to be more."
The blood pact necklace in Tom's hand shattered and Kavya felt a strange sensation within her. The blood pact had been severed because of the secrets Tom had kept from her and she could no longer trust him.
Kavya's heart sank as she felt the blood pact necklace shatter. She knew what it meant – that the bond they had shared was broken, a physical manifestation of the emotional rift that had come between them because of Tom's secrets. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she couldn't let herself break down here.
She turned to Tom with a mixture of sadness and anger. "You've made your choice, Tom. I can't be a part of this any longer. I need to go back to Hogwarts."
Tom wanted to stop her, to explain, to apologize, but he knew that the damage was done, at least for now. With a heavy heart, he nodded. "Kavya, I understand. I just want you to be safe."
Without another word, Kavya turned and left the Hogshead Inn, returning to Hogwarts, her heart heavy with disappointment and sadness.
Tom then turned his attention to Erik, who was still recovering from the effects of the Cruciatus Curse. Tom's anger hadn't subsided, and he knew that Erik's memories had to be erased to protect their secrets.
He pointed his wand at Erik and uttered the incantation, "Obliviate."
Erik's eyes went blank for a moment, and then he slumped as his recent memories were wiped clean. Tom didn't want to cause the man harm, but he couldn't risk Erik revealing what he knew. Erik had been a friend once, but the events of the night had made it clear that their paths had diverged.
As Tom watched Erik, who now appeared confused and disoriented, he couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. He had lost a friend and possibly damaged any future relationship they might have had.
With a heavy heart, Tom left the basement of the Hogshead Inn, his thoughts consumed by the choices he had made and the consequences of his actions.
The Hogwarts school year ended with the grand End-of-Year Feast, a celebration of accomplishments and a farewell to another chapter in the lives of the students. In the Great Hall, Professor Dippet, the headmaster, stood at the podium and addressed the gathered students.
"Another year has passed at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry," Professor Dippet began, his voice carrying through the hall. "We've witnessed exceptional achievements, experienced unforgettable moments, and faced unforeseen challenges. Each of you, in your own way, has contributed to the unique tapestry of this year."
The students, dressed in their finest robes, listened attentively, their faces reflecting the emotions of the past school year – joy, sadness, determination, and a longing for what was to come. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation, not only for the feast but also for the prospect of the summer holiday.
As Professor Dippet continued with his speech, the scene transitioned to two distinct locations within Hogwarts. In the Slytherin table, Tom Riddle sat at the center of the long table, a vision of poised confidence. His accomplishments during the year, both in academic pursuits and other, more secretive endeavors, had bolstered his reputation within the house. His housemates looked upon him with a mixture of admiration and curiosity.
The blood pact necklace, once a symbol of his connection with Kavya, was now shattered, a stark reminder of the choices he had made. As he listened to Professor Dippet's words, his thoughts drifted to Kavya. He had hoped the year would end on a different note, one filled with their shared dreams and happiness. But the darkness within him had grown, and the rift between them had deepened. He knew he had to find a way to bridge that divide if he wanted to have a future with her.
Across the Great Hall, at the Hufflepuff table, Kavya watched Professor Dippet with a pensive expression. Her heart ached with the memories of the past year, the joy she had shared with Tom, and the pain that had come with the revelation of his secrets. The blood pact necklace had been a symbol of their love, but now it was gone, shattered just like the trust that had once bound them together.
Kavya longed for the connection they had shared, but she couldn't ignore the darkness that had taken hold of Tom. She knew she had to protect herself and her own future, even if it meant keeping her distance from the one, she had loved so deeply. She had heard from the other students that Erik was found in the basement of the Hogshead Inn and she glanced at Tom from across the room. She knew he was behind it.
Erik was lying in a bed, receiving care. His memories were fragmented, and he couldn't quite grasp what had transpired in the basement of the Hogshead Inn. He had been a pawn in a dangerous game, and now he was left with the aftermath of choices he had made.
As Professor Dippet's speech concluded, the hall erupted in applause, and the feast began. The long tables were laden with a feast fit for a king, and the students eagerly served themselves. Laughter and conversations filled the air as friends and housemates celebrated the end of another year.
Amid the festivities, Tom couldn't help but look around, his gaze seeking Kavya. He knew they were in different houses, separated not only by physical distance but by the choices and secrets that had come between them. He longed to find a way back to her, to bridge the gap and rebuild what they had lost.
Kavya, on the other hand, sat with her fellow Huffflepuff housemates, her eyes occasionally drifting to the Slytherin table. She couldn't ignore the pain in her heart, the love she still held for Tom, but she also knew that she had to protect herself from the darkness that had taken root in him.
Yes. I know I'm absolutely evil for leaving this story at such a bittersweet ending and I regret nothing.
Will I continue on with this series of Harry Potter fics? Absolutely! I will. This story could go on until Tom becomes Voldemort and even towards the end of Deathly Hallows. It would be a long series for sure, but I am committed to see these characters happy one way or the other.
For now I want to take a break from the wizarding world and tackle a series of stories that takes place in a galaxy far, far away.
Review.
