Welcome to our third day of Star Wars Xmas! Thank you everyone for the awesome response, and there have even been a few good questions from guest accounts I would have loved to answer, but I can't, so please make sure your logged in before asking a question so I can reply if its not too plot related.
I have seen this question asked a few times so far, So thought I would clarify here, Harry has landed on Tatooine (47bby) 15 years before the invasion of Naboo (32bby). So 15 years before movie 1.
Chapter 3:
Harry and R3 got out of his speeder as he parked in the secure parking of the spaceport. Tossing a few Peggats to the regular 'petal head' guard who he was now familiar with, and gave him a friendly nod. It was finally the day he and R3 would be taking their ride to Corellia. Harry had just finished giving instructions to his droids and House Elves on how to act and if necessary how to protect the property while he was gone. His trip was going to take nearly ten days, as the ship he was traveling on only had a class 2 hyperdrive, and there were a few jump points from Tatooine till the Corellian Run which was then a semi-straight shot to Corellia with stops at various systems along the way.
This was going to be his first time in space and to say he was excited was an understatement, even if he already knew from the memories he stole that it was actually fairly boring. That was why he still had all his stuff on him, including his trunk, though he had left another one behind for the few dozen House Elves that were remaining behind at his property. However he mainly planned on working on the programming side of things for his new droid control unit on his trusty large sized pad he had purchased just a few days after he arrived here in this galaxy.
Padds, or Datapads, were basically this galaxy's portable computer, and books all in one. They came in various sizes, and performed different tasks, so Harry had a number on him that he was using. They were also fairly cheap and durable, so he could see their many uses, and why they were so popular even out here in the Outer Rim.
Harry walked up to the person he had gotten direction from last time he was here. They were sitting behind their booth. "Could you point me towards landing pad B-4?" he asked, giving him the landing bay number for the ship Sim told him was taking him to Corellia.
"Straight back, past through the first large door, take a left, it's your third door on the right." All said once again without even looking up from whatever he was reading on his Padd.
"He was not friendly at all." R3 commented as they got far enough away to not be heard.
"Most people aren't R3, unless you can somehow enrich them." he explained the stark reality of life to the admittedly 'young' droid.
They came to the right hanger door and walked into the large open 'room'. Inside was parked the most common freighter around, a Corellian Engineering Corporation, aka CEC, YT-1300. Which looked like a deformed pizza, with stubby legs and an offset cockpit, but for some reason Harry liked it. Certainly not something he would fly, but he could understand those who did.
As they moved closer a Human woman walked down the loading ramp. "Hello, you must be Mr Peverell?" she asked nicely while holding out her hand to shake. Harry could see she had a blaster on her hip, and was fairly tough with a no nonsense attitude. However, that did not prevent her from having this rough but certainly attractive look to her, even in her early to mid forties as he expected she was.
"Yes, Sim said this will be the ship taking me to Corellia?" he said, waving his arm in the direction of the YT-1300.
"Yah, my baby. The Giant Skimmer." she answered happily, while Harry had no idea what that name meant. It probably was better in a different language. "My name is Yolaann Russmead, and I will be your captain for the next ten days. It seems you're in a hurry as we are making no pit stops on the way, which is not how we usually operate for most." Yolaann said while raising an eyebrow in question while looking up at him from her padd she was looking over.
"Yes, Sim charged me a nice premium for that. I simply did not wish to have to waste my time waiting for other deliveries and pickups at each stop. Time is money after all." He answered honestly as, paying a few hundred Peggats more saved eight days of additional travel time spent waiting for loading and unloading of packages at other stops.
"That sits perfectly with me, it makes our trip a bit more safe, so I am not complaining. Now who is this wonderful little fellow?" she said looking down at R3 giving him a big smile.
"I am R3-X4, and I am here to help my master during his travels." R3 said surprising Yolaann with his ability to talk.
"Ooh you can talk! That is so wonderful, I wonder why that's not standard? Would make understanding my Astromechs that much easier." Yolaann said, thinking out loud.
"I know I agree, so I installed it myself." he agreed with her. "If you want when I return back to Tatooine in a few months you can bring your Astromechs to my shop, and I can have it installed on yours for you for a small fee with a hefty discount for being my first customer of that variety." he said, already getting into his merchant persona. He kinda liked it, it made him almost feel good in some way. He was gonna make tons of money in this galaxy and he was gonna do it with a bit of honesty, and a ton of style. He wasn't gonna rip his customers off, what he sold them is what they bought and expected to get, and it will be at a relatively reasonable price. So he certainly hoped to have many happy customers.
He was still looking forward to seeing some of the finished products he had his Elves working on to sell in his store during his absence. He knew if he was back on Earth some people would really frown on some of the things he wanted to sell, but that was alright, as this was a different world he was in, literally. However a few crops needed to be grown, stocks needed to be built up, and a few minor construction projects to be done. All of that would hopefully be handled by the time he returns so he can start opening his shop.
"Yea, I will definitely think about it. How much would it cost normally?" Yolaann asked.
"Hmm, 3 Peggats or 120 credits per droid, discounts on bulk orders. 10% discount for anyone who works for or with Sim" he answered her coming up with a reasonable price and discount on the spot.
"Alright that sounds more than fair and Sim will be happy to know about the discount. Now if you will follow me we can get you settled into a cabin before we take off." Yolaann said as she walked up the loading ramp into the ship before hitting a button to close it behind them. "The cabin is nothing fancy, but it's got a bed, a desk, and a refresher with a sonic, so it should do you well for the trip." she said as they walked through the circular hallway inside the ship.
She showed him where his cabin was, and R3 parked himself in one corner taking up the least amount of space possible. R3 could have parked himself somewhere else on the ship, but Harry didn't mind, and would love to have the company, and R3 probably knew this, hence the little guy already anticipating his needs.
"The common area is just around the corridor, you can't miss it. It has the kitchen for everyone's use, and has your prepaid rations already on the shelves." she said showing him some of the things around his room. "There are a few restricted areas, like the cockpit and engineering, but other than that, you are welcome to move around the ship as you wish. Now if you could excuse me, I will go and get the pilot to start taking off." she said before walking out.
Harry got himself comfortable, and decided to just observe their take off through the window in his cabin. It was nice to be able to see what was going on, as he could clearly feel them taking off from the ground. He watched as they pulled away and Tatooine got smaller quite quickly as they made it to orbit. It was amazing for him to finally see a planet like this. However one thing he noticed right away was that the magic surrounding him had reduced by only a small amount, though it was still far far more potent than back on Earth. Making him conclude that it was likely like this throughout most of the galaxy.
This feeling of being right only increased as they took off into hyperspace and the magic never left him. It was quite amazing as he was able to sense the real world outside as they passed it by in subspace. Sure it was moving too quickly for him to really get a grasp of anything but he could still sense it nonetheless.
With that discovery, Harry for a time just sat there meditating in the calming black of space, and without all the people surrounding him like normal, it was really quite nice. He usually didn't meditate on Tatooine too often as it usually ended up with him unintentionally sensing all the people around him, which on a criminal world was not a great idea. After a few hours of meditation he got working on that programming he needed done, and that was how he mostly spent his first trip through space. If he had not had anything to do during the trip, he imagined it would have been just as boring as Polukas' memories made it out to be.
By the time they had exited Hyperspace over Corellia, something no one had told him was happening, as he simply felt it and looked out the window to see them back in realspace, he had made huge progress on his programming for his control unit. It had not taken him too long to actually create the programming for his new control unit, as he was simply borrowing most of his code in segments from quite a few sources, and after a few modifications it was almost just right for his use. The main chunk of coding involved him integrating everything, and writing the networking code, which was what took him the longest. He had ended up pulling dozens of books about coding from Earth out of his Library Index Stone (LIS) for reference throughout the whole process.
Other than that he had also started on the code for a small droid he had plans to create to act as a secretary and personal assistant. It would be a small ball that would float around following him as he went about his day. It would keep track of his schedules, place orders for him, make regular payments on things he uses, and all around doing a lot of menial tasks of running a business which takes Harry away from his work on whatever he actually wanted to be doing. It would be super helpful when he had the shop up and running. Unfortunately he had to wait till he returned to make a body for the code he was developing.
The trip was surprisingly uneventful, which was unexpected with how often he heard there were problems with pirates, and slavers in the outer rim. Just as he was thinking that there was a knock at his door.
"Hadrian." he heard Yolaann call him from the other side. There were now both on a first name basis as they had talked a number of times during their meals. "We are preparing to land in 23 minutes, CorSec has given us landing coordinates. I have organized transport to be waiting for you at the landing pad to take you where you need to go." she explained after Harry opened the door.
Honestly he was still surprised at the professionalism of this transport operation being partially run out of Tatooine. He would have to ensure he passes on his compliments to Sim about the quality of service.
"That sounds great, and thank you for the good service throughout the ride." he said as he handed over a small pouch with 50 Peggats inside. It was a hefty tip, but he wanted a reputation of rewarding those who go above and beyond, and those who don't try to fuck with him. Doubly so for getting retribution for those who do.
Harry could feel the planet below them as they entered into the atmosphere with his magic. Corellia was a highly industrialized planet, but unlike what he read about Coruscant, the entire surface was not totally covered over. Instead there were some areas left undeveloped, whereas others contained extremely high density development. Unfortunately due to a lot of the industrial production on the planet's surface, for everything from blasters, to capital ships for the republic fleets that were produced here, it created a lot of pollution. That pollution spread across most of the planet, taking away any of the beauty that the open natural areas were supposed to provide by keeping them undeveloped.
While the planet was certainly not the first destination in mind for most people, as there was still an element of poverty, most people were able to get a good safe paying job here to put them in the lower middle class at least. The planet honestly really reminded Harry of what he believed early 20th century life in the British Empire was like. With the opportunity to move up in the world being mostly locked behind a bit of luck, education, and a large part of where you were born. There was even a noble and higher class of citizens on the planet.
Thankfully CorSec kept the peace and ensured that as long as you didn't venture to the seedier levels of the planet then you were mostly safe to explore around. That being said due to how many different things being produced here, and the not incredibly high standard of living, it caused there to be a healthy number of smuggling operations in and out of the planet. That was why as he walked down the loading ramp of the pizza ship, the YT-1300, he was met by a CorSec security representative.
"Identification?" asked the green and tan clad human security guard, who was carrying a heavy blaster pistol at his side, and some light armour. He also had a few pieces of tech to help with his job and the CorSec symbol pasted all over his uniform.
"Here you are." Harry said, handing over a data chit with his galactic identification on it, and looked behind the man to the edge of the platform where some transport was waiting for him.
"It all seems to be in order, and I will have to register this droid here as your property." The man said handing back the datachit, and indicated to R3 who had followed Harry out. Harry was only carrying a small shoulder bag which the guard quickly scanned before indicating for them to proceed.
Walking to the transport Harry saw that it was piloted by a droid. It was a fairly decent looking airspeeder, something he expected was fairly standard for the transports around here. "Destination sir?" asked the droid as he got close enough.
"CEC's ship acquisition center, please." he said as he and R3 got into the enclosed space in the back seat of the air speeder.
"Right away sir." the droid said getting back in and taking off into the air. The sights were as he expected, with the planet and city he landed in being heavily industrialized, however it was clear there was also large efforts to clean up most of the pollution produced, and that the area was prospering with the various companies of the planet bringing in really good money apparently.
Harry had read quite a bit about the planet during his break from programming on the trip over. It had quite an interesting history, but also seemed to be overly controlled by a few important corporations on the planet. The city they were in was fairly nice, but he knew this was only the surface, and few layers down in the city and you would find yourself surrounded by dingy, polluted streets.
Their airspeeder approached CEC's building, which had an absolutely massive attached area where he could see many ships parked and even a few hangars open showing even more ships inside ready for whoever was coming to pick them up. It was quite amazing to see the scale of the operations here on the planet. Their speeder stopped at about a dozen floors off of the street level at a large sprawling landing ramp that led inside.
"Thank you for choosing us for your travel needs, please refer to the monitor for payment options." the droid driver said as Harry saw it cost him 8 credits to get here. Slipping a credit chip into the slot on the monitor he saw his payment go through, and pulled his chip back. Looking down at it he could now see that the indicator showed it to have 8 less credits on it.
Credit chips were almost like reverse credit cards (gift cards) from back on Earth, they were loaded up to standard denominations, like 10, 100, 1000 etc, by a planetary government or agency. People then paid the government from their bank accounts for the credit chip to use during their daily lives. They were so ubiquitous in use on most Republic words, that nearly all people there would go their entire lives without ever actually seeing a physical credit. Each credit chip could then be redeemed anywhere they were used, and their amounts transferred between them, though there were some compatibility issues depending where they were issued. This was all backed by the Galactic Banking clans of course and encrypted through the HoloNet.
This system worked out quite well for the governments in question, as it gave them credit right away to work with, while only creating a future liability, which may never be claimed as some credit chips get lost or destroyed. Basically meaning free money for said government, so he could see why they promoted it so much. However in the Outer Rim, most didn't trust credits or the banking services offered by the Clans so their use was not common at all. This made him a bit of an oddity on Tatooine for accepting them in payment for bets, or any payments really.
What surprised Harry the most, was when doing his research for this planet, was that a good paying entry level high-education job or skilled worker position around here would net you around 50-70 credits a day, which meant Harry has been spending quite a bit because that was only 1.25-1.75 Peggats. It was no wonder his spending of money on Tatooine garnered attention so quickly. The fact that the attack on him after winning a few big bets had helped him spread a reputation of someone not to fuck with, didn't hurt though.
Harry and R3 walked towards the high arching doors which opened when they got close with a quiet hiss. Inside there was a man waiting to help whoever arrives, this time it being Harry. "Hello how can we at Corellian Engineering Corporation help you today?" the human asked Harry as he approached.
"I have an appointment to pick up my recently ordered ship." he said handing over another data chit he pulled out of his pouch that had all the information pertaining to his purchase and meeting. The man put it in his little machine he carried and looked it over and smiled happily.
"If you could follow me this way, I can show you to your new ship, it was just prepared this morning for your arrival, and all preflight checks have already been performed." the man said they walked further into the building towards a turbo lift. As they walked away Harry saw another human, this time a woman, who took over waiting at the door for the next customer to arrive. They definitely had their system for ship sales down flat here.
"Is there anything I need to know before we arrive?" he asked, his magic telling him there was something he needed to do before leaving.
"Yes, we simply need the name of your ship so we can update its registration in the correct systems, as it seems the ship is already registered to the cooperation, Hadrian Peverell Incorporated." the man answered his question, bringing up something Harry had been thinking about since taking off from Tatooine.
"I have decided the ship will be called HPI Trade 1" Harry answered, as this vessel while nice was certainly not going to be his personal vessel for too long. He planned to get or even build a better ship for himself in the future, and these ships will mostly be helping him facilitate trade so he thought the name… accurate. The name Marauder would be something he was saving for a truly special ship.
"Splendid, if you can confirm the details here we can have it sent on its way." the man who he still didn't know the name of handed over the medium size padd to him. "It will be entered into the republic system nearly instantly so you can use your new ship registration when leaving today." the man answered with a smile. Harry looked it over and saw that everything was correct, and smiled when he saw that it was being registered as an armoured trade corvette. Whatever that meant.
"Yes, it looks to be all in order." Harry said calmly to the man, but was internally a bit excited. He couldn't wait to get to the ship and try piloting it with his untested piloting skills. Skills he had kindly ripped from Polukas' mind, and ones he wanted to put to good use. He loved flying and he hoped Hedwig would like to join him sometime in the cockpit. She had not been so pleased with the dry heat of Tatooine being a Snow Owl and all, and she seemed to be enjoying her 'retirement' in his trunk and he joined her for flights with his broom almost nightly. She often simply sat with him when he was working in either his offices or the workshop in the trunk, rarely going outside the climate controlled areas, seemingly content.
She seemed to be happy regardless of where they were, and didn't want to leave the trunk often. He had thought to take her out when he got here, but he had decided quickly against that, as she would HATE the levels of pollution. He could just imagine how upset she would get with it dirtying her feathers and such. With that thought they finally arrived at a large doorway leading into a, at least to him, massive hangar with a large open door at the far end and roof.
"And here is your brand new vessel. I hope you enjoy it and utilize CEC for your future ship needs. Here you go." the man said, handing him over a small sealed briefcase that had been sitting on a table just inside the door. "This contains your encryption keys for your ship, and a few important manuals and other information for your ship's operation."
Harry took the case and followed the man to the open loading ramp that led to the large elevator that lowered to the ground when the ship landed. As he approached he happily looked over his brand new black, gold, and hotrod red ship, at least for now till he figured out his company's color scheme and repainted it. It was truly a thing of beauty, and it was all his. The various turbo laser emplacements gave it a fairly menacing look, as it was quite armed for a vessel of its size. Speaking of size, when one said 150m it was quite hard to visualize, but it was honestly bigger than he expected. It would definitely not fit inside a football stadium, thankfully this hanger dwarfed any football field he knew of. Though the ship was certainly not as wide as a stadium. The large bank of engines in the back gave it a fairly intimidating look, but that was also what gave it its amazing speed.
"It looks amazing, I must commend your people's work." Harry said to the man with a smile.
"Thank you, if there is nothing else, I will leave you to your new vessel?" the man asked and to Harry's negative shake of his head, he started to leave before turning around to say one last thing. "Oh, remember to contract traffic control before taking off." he finished saying before leaving without waiting for a reply. Apparently the man had other things to do. This Galaxy often seemed to be working at a fast pace, everyone had somewhere to be it.
Harry and R3 went up the ramp and into the elevator before he clicked the button on the panel for floor one. It quickly zoomed up and opened up to a large hangar with two large hangar doors on each side of the ship. It had ample room for 5-8 starfighters depending on their size, with room left over for spare parts and cargo. There was not much else on this floor except for a door at the end of the hall that led to the maintenance access area for the forward section of the ship. The inside was a nice grey and white décor, that was a bit too bright for him, but wasn't worth his effort to change.
Getting back into the elevator he hit the button for floor 2, and quickly arrived and exited into a main corridor. It went straight up from the back of the ship to the front and had two access ports on each side of the ship connecting in a T. Ignoring the way to the main reactor room in the rear, Harry made his way forwards and by the fairly extensive open crew or passenger area, which also had two separate droid maintenance rooms to each side. This was to help maintain the droids that were going to be the main crew of the ship. Otherwise there was a large stately table and a comfortable seating area in the middle of the room. It was quite large and could house a number of guests for a meeting or party.
As Harry walked down the corridor towards the bridge of the ship, he could see the standard escape pods on each side, with signages pointing towards them. It took him a few minutes to make his way to the forward section which housed 'officer' and the captain's quarters, as well as other important systems. Lastly but no least, and his target, was the bridge.
He walked up the small stairs in the middle of the room and went into the cockpit where he looked over everything to quickly familiarize himself. From there he opened his case he had gotten and pulled out the nice white envelope. Inside was a 32 digit code that Harry quickly entered into the ship's computer. As soon as he did the ship started and things around him started booting up. First thing he did was change the security code to something only he knew, but kept it at 32 digits, which he knew most captains tended to not do, due to the difficulty in remembering such a long password or entering it in a pinch. Though some did even increase its length.
He could feel the engines and other things start humming as power was being produced and delivered to where it was required. Grabbing the helmet on the seat, he sat down and started to flick through the various switches he needed to start preparing for take off. As he did that he opened a channel with CorSec air traffic control.
"Control, this HPI Trade 1, looking to get permission to rehangar to hangar SGH-96823." Harry said as he waited for a response, which quickly came in the form of a droid voice.
"HPI Trade 1 you are granted permission to rehangar, fly safely, and stay within allotted airspace." the traffic control droid answered before disconnecting and sending over a data packet with the related flight information.
With that Harry quickly started up his engines, and entered the hangar number into the navi computer so he knew where he was going. "R3 buddy, hook yourself into the systems so you can assist me if needed." he said to his trusty friend. He raised the lower elevator, and double checked all systems were go.
Taking a deep breath he started flipping a few safeties off, and released power control to his console. He slowly piloted the ship off of the ground, as a huge smile broke out on his face. From there he simply pulled out of the hangar smoothly, as he felt around him with his magic senses, and used the holographic read outs from the ship to know his surroundings in crazy detail. It honestly was a lot easier than he expected, even with the knowledge he had taken.
He flew his new ship up slowly as he left the hangar area and gained a bit of altitude so he was above airspeeder traffic, and slowly flew over to the large warehouse he had rented over the holonet for his deliveries. It came with a nice landing site on the roof where he could land his ship, mainly to facilitate loading. Landing was easy as he dropped the landing legs again with the flick of a switch, and gently set the ship down. From there he simply lowered the elevator shaft and made his way back out of the ship to the roof entrance of the warehouse.
R3 stayed on the ship to monitor anything that may happen, while he went towards the door. Seeing the keypad on the side, he entered the code he was given for the warehouse before walking inside. Getting inside he quickly made his way downstairs and found all the droids he ordered all nicely lined up on the side of the sprawling warehouse. There were about 60 in total, including his small group of GU variant type battle droids. They were all currently deactivated, and he could see several dozen massive cargo containers with all the extra stuff he ordered filling much of the large warehouse space.
All this stuff would not have fit in his ship even with five trips. That was why he quickly pulled an empty trunk out of his pouch and put it on the ground before resizing and opening it up. From there he simply shrunk and levitated all the massive cargo containers into the trunk with a modified packing spell, clearing the room in mere moments leaving just him and the droids.
He had ordered tons of brand new, and used spare parts for his new shop, as well as other things he thought to sell, such as an order of Blasters from BlasTech for both his new droids and for sale, as well as dozens of other machines and pieces of technology that were quite hard to come by out on Tatooine. He wanted to ensure he had enough key components to start making additional pieces of new tech or even for creating and selling some of his speeders. He totally planned to keep experimenting, and relying entirely on scrap he got on Tatooine was not ideal.
With that done he walked over to his new droids and started to walk down the line booting them up. It didn't take him long to have them all online, partially with the help of a few of the droids he had first activated.
"Alright everyone you now work for Hadrian Peverell Incorporated, and will be mainly tasked with operating and protecting company assets." he said to the group of droids feeling a bit odd doing so. "I have recently purchased a CR90 Corvette that all of you besides most of the GU units will be operating for the foreseeable future. There should be information in your databanks about the ship and company?" he asked, getting confirmation from the new 3P0 protocol droid that was going to be attached to the ship almost permanently. He was not the biggest fan of 3PO protocol droids, they had the most annoying personality matrices, and vocalizers for some odd reason, but they were some of the best in their class.
"The data has been installed correctly Master." the 3PO droid said.
"Alright then let us head up, and we can get you all settled into your new home." he continued as he made his way back towards the ship with the oddest assortment of droids following behind him. They all got onto the large cargo elevator before taking it to the roof.
When they arrived up top, there were a few appreciative whistles from the new R2 units about the new ship they would be serving on. Harry loved those little fellas, they were like the younger brother version of R3. It actually took a few hours to get the droids settled into their roles, and hook up the new pilot droid in the second pilots seat. It wouldn't be moving really, as it was basically a permanent installation, with cables connecting it to the ship's computers to be fed sensor data.
The others, such as the maintenance, and engineering droids had gotten themselves set at their various tasks, and one of them was already starting to tweak some of the settings on the ship's computer to streamline it a bit more from factory settings. Albeit by less than a percent, but he guessed that to droids that type of stuff mattered, as the little guy almost looked affronted when he asked. Harry was also planning to install two trunks on each of his ships, one for cargo that it may haul, and another for the House Elf(s) that he would be assigning to each ship to help them be operated for now. This was partially so Winky, Dobby's wife, would no longer complain to his friend about the possibility of droids owned by Harry flying through space for long periods of time without House Elf care.
They would be mainly there however to help the droids in moving cargo between wherever and the trunks, as well as to help repair things with magic if that was needed. Obviously out of sight of anyone else when doing so. Harry would put protections on the trunks, and even a magical beacon that tied them to his blood, so he could hopefully in the event that the ship is destroyed somehow recover them. Hopefully then the trunk and the elves and droids will survive. Or at least that is his hope, and when he explained the possible dangers to the Elves who volunteered for the future duty, they simply thought he was being too protective.
While the onboarding of new droids was going on, Harry had one more errand he needed to run while he was on a large core planet. He ordered another transport speeder and had it take him to one of the better known Corellian banks that was under the umbrella of the Galactic Banking Clans. He entered in carrying a very large chest utilizing his prodigious strength to be able to do so. Inside the chest was full to the brim with Peggats.
He did get a few odd looks when he entered, but quickly made his way to an open teller. "Hello I would like to make a deposit into my account, I will be depositing gold, not the usual credits." he explained to the human lady behind the desk to expedite things. It was kind of odd being here on Corellia where it was mostly inhabited by humans when he had spent the last three years surrounded by mostly Aliens.
"Of course sir, if you would follow me?" she asked after having checked his Datachit on her computer. "We will go to a private room where we can assess your deposit." she said as she got up and walked towards another room. Harry followed behind her after picking up the large chest while admiring her nice bottom. He certainly was a full blooded male, and would appreciate a nice sight when he saw one, and that bum was definitely a nice sight.
After they entered the room Harry, cast a quick wandless confundus on the woman so she would not question the fact that Harry was now pulling out more bags of coins then should have been able to fit in his chest. It took nearly twenty minutes, even with the help of technology for the clerk to process the deposit, but from her eyes it was clear it was far larger than she usually dealt with.
All in all he had traded 1 million Peggats, transfigured nicely from his Galleons, for just over 42 million credits. It seemed that the price of gold was a bit higher at the moment because of the rising tensions and minor conflicts in the galaxy. This was apparently, surprise surprise, increasing the demand for more ships and armaments. Which meant temporarily rising costs of materials. He also got 2 million credits issued in credit chips of larger denominations. After this exchange, Harry had only 241 million Galleons left over, enough to last him some time still, he laughed to himself.
Returning to his ship he was welcomed aboard by a few of his new droids, before he found R3 and let them know he was ready to depart. This would be a good test to see if the droids would be able to handle the ship without him being around. He moved up to the bridge area and stayed out of the way so he could observe them in action. It was quite good, as they all manned their stations, and the pilot above already had them prepared for takeoff and was apparently in contact with traffic control if the indicator lights were correct.
It didn't take long for them to gain permission to leave the planet and head towards the hyperspace jump point for the Corellian Run. Which the new droids proceeded to do well all on their own, even better than he could have done honestly besides maybe the direct act of piloting. It wasn't long before the ship was rocketing away in Hyperspace at a good speed with its grade one hyperdrive.
The return trip was nearly just as uneventful as the trip out, except at one of hyperspace jump points near the end of their journey there were two different ships waiting there when they came to realspace, however a few moments after arriving they took off into hyperspace. He didn't want to speculate, but guessed they were pirates, or scouts for someone who had taken one look at his ship and decided against doing anything. The only other thing that occured was Harry cementing his opinion that droid crews were going to work excellently for his ships, even better than he expected. Sure they were expensive, but seemed to be running Trade 1 smoothly and entirely without his input.
When they approached Tatooine it was a far different story than Corellia. There was no traffic control, and all he had the droids do was send a message to the spaceport that they were coming in for landing. Which they did soon after. During the trip, Harry had gone to the hangar and unloaded a bunch of the cargo he had shrunk and stored in a trunk. He did this because it would look awfully funny if he started selling stuff from his shop, but never had anything actually transported from his ship. So he filled all the space available to him with cargo.
The last other item he pulled out was the only large thing he had bought during this trip besides his ship, and that was a large cargo lift. It was basically a droid controlled repulsor lift with arms, designed not for speed but to move large bulk cargo around in big crates. It would help load and unload his ships when they arrived through the hangar doors.
As they landed the view provided to Harry in the bridge, only really reinforced how large his new ship was, as there was not a single other ship even close to it in size in the spaceport. Sure there were a few large freighters, but even they still came short in sure length.
The other thing he noted was how far along the new addition to the spaceport was. Not only were all the landing pads already done, but good progress had been made on the surrounding walls, and he could see dozens of organics and aliens moving around the area working on the construction. It seemed that the new construction was bringing in some much needed money for the locals, as the project had to be employing hundreds of people. At least he assumed so, as they didn't seem like slaves to him.
Walking out of the elevator as it touched down on the ground, he was greeted by a smiling Jacabr. "Hadrian! Welcome back! I am so glad you made it back without incident!" Jacabr said coming up to Harry and shaking his hand with his usual over exuberance. The man clearly had a stimulant habit of some kind, but did good work so it was not something he was going to comment on.
"How's the construction project going?" Harry said with a smile indicating around him towards ongoing work.
"It goes very well, and is basically the talk of the city, but now with your new ship landing I imagine that spot will be swiftly taken in the rumour mills for some time." Jacabr said looking at the brand new CR90. "What's she named?" he asked.
"HPI Trade One." he answered as they both simply stood there admiring the ship. Harry liked Jacabr's passion for anything spaceship related. The fact that Harry had already gotten reports that they were making money from his investment, as many ships were already using the pads, really reinforced Jacabr's reputation he had been building with Harry. "I got the power generators and relays you asked for in the cargo hold." he said as he indicated to one of the droids to start unloading the goods for Jacabr.
"Amazing, that removes a huge hurdle on getting them here. They are so bulky that not many wanted to transport them for us at any reasonable rate." Jacabr said grumbling as he passed over a Padd to Harry. "This is the most recent update on the progress, I was about to send it off to your droids at your shop, but this saves me the time. However I want to get these generators sorted right away if you don't mind?" Jacabr asked to which Harry simply smiled and let the eccentric man get back to work. Who was he to stand between a man and his passion.
Harry told the droids to ensure that they started to unload the cargo and gave them directions to his shop. He also had 10 of the GU battle droids to follow him, which now were equipped with the DC-14D blaster rifles he had purchased in bulk from BlasTech on Corellia for just this very use. It seemed they were primed to replace the model soon with an upgrade and were more than happy to sell him a large number of them. He got 250 at just 850 credits each, which was a steal because they retailed at nearly 1000 each in the core still.
They were solid blaster rifles that were just shy of being 1m long, with a 400 shot blaster gas capacity, and the charge pack would last you for about 50 shots depending on the setting. They also had good range, which may come in handy on a planet like Tatooine. He had also ordered a ton of power packs, both for his personal use, but also to sell here at his shop, as they seemed easily damaged and could often need replacement. He also equipped the battle droids with two concussion grenades, and a BlasTech blaster pistol for backup.
He left 10 of the GU droids on board the ship, which they would man permanently for added protection against possible borders. The remaining ten battle droids followed him as he made his way out of the hanger, through the main spaceport, and towards his speeder. As he approached he saw that his speeder was still in perfect condition. His Toydarian petrolhead 'friend' got out of his guard Hutt, and flew his way over to him quickly as he approached.
Harry tipped the Toydarian for taking good care of his speeder after answering a few questions about his new ship to the man. It seemed word was already spreading, not that he really cared, he never really was about keeping a low profile here. He just wanted to do what he wanted, and screw anyone who tries to tell him not to, not that he planned to become a hardened criminal or anything.
It was slow going back to his shop as he had to slow down to allow the droids to fast walk alongside him as he made his way. Not that they could not move faster, but a large group of armed droids running through a city was not a good image for him to project, so he moved at a more sedated pace. Once he returned to his property, he saw the shop was nearly the same except for a few changes he asked to be done before he left. However that really changed when he walked inside and saw most of the work he asked to be done inside before leaving had been completed.
There were various signage hanging from the ceiling indicating the various categories of goods being sold, such as Droids, Parts, Blasters, Supplies, or even one for Speeder Sales. Under each sign were a few terminals with holo displays to allow customers to search through the store catalog on what was being offered. Each catalog was automatically updated as new products came in, and became available, this was done by one of his droids to ensure inventory.
As one made their way into the store a bit there were finally some products on display in a few rows of shelves. However what took up most of the center was a set of lines to organize people with a sign above saying Sales. This led to the big desk which most customers would come to, and then his droids or Elves would get whatever they wanted to buy from behind the counter or somewhere else on the property.
This insured that the chance of theft was going to be low, as the only products in front of the counter were things, like his new jerky, powerpacks for blasters, water, and mostly other things that were less than 100 credits. Nearly all of the expensive things were behind the counter and secured in other rooms. He honestly loved the layout, and saw some of his Bantha and Nerf jerky already out on display. The store was really almost ready to be opened soon.
All that needed to be done now was to unload his cargo and get it cataloged, then he had one final task to do before he could get his shop open. That was a runic project he had been thinking about since he had learned about blaster gas. At first he was worried about shortages for his troops, as blaster gas was often hard to get out here in the outer rim, even though everyone carried a blaster around. However he quickly did some research and realized that really all it was, was concentrated gas mixtures, and magic could create gasses. He knew this from both his trials in the 'Tri Wizard' tournament, and through his magical studies for creating his trunks that had included a number of spells, enchantments, and runic arrays for vaults or deep mines.
He came to the realization that these may be usable for producing blaster gas when he thought about how his trunks regulated and produced air mixtures for the inhabitants and the plants inside. This led him to looking into that specific runic array, and pulled up related books from his LIS. It quickly became apparent to him that with a few modifications, and a custom machine to do the mixing itself, he would basically have an unlimited source of blaster gas by individually producing gasses via magic before mixing them in the machine.
However before he walked to his backyard workshop, he called his close companion to his side. "Dobby." he called out, having the Elf pop in instantly. "I see you and the droids have nearly finished everything I left you with before leaving. Were there any issues?" he asked, as he had left Dobby with a mirror connected to one he held with himself to send him updates, but the Elf had only passed on the reports given by Jacabr and little else.
"Little to report." Dobby answered while tapping his chin thinking. It was quite awesome to see Dobby's lessons in languages, including Huttese, English, and Galactic Basic from Harry were starting to pay off. "Oh there were two minor incidents." Dobby said after thinking about it for a bit as he explained what happened.
Apparently after Harry had left another group of idiots had tried to break into his place. This time Dobby had been fairly brutal in dealing with them, as he simply had the few droids guards on hand shoot the stunned men in the head with their blasters, making a big mess. Not even bothering to check their intentions like Harry had. He then repeated Harry's previous actions of putting them in the middle of the road for people to find in the morning and deal with. Most likely to feed them to something, hopefully a pet, and not someone else. He tried not to think of the alternative, but there were a few alien species that preyed on other sentients here on Tatooine, and enjoyed hunting them too.
The other incident was apparently when someone had come by and had successfully convinced Dobby to buy a barely working Sandcrawler they had stolen from a clan of Jawas. How they got it all the way back here was probably a story in and of itself. Having heard of Harry's previous purchases of scrap and parts, they had brought it here to see if he was interested. Dobby apparently managed to get the massive vehicle, which was tons and tons of scrap and maybe a few salvageable parts, for only 500 Peggats. That was quite the deal, and now it was parked out back towering above most of the rest of their scrap.
Harry finally managed to make it to his workshop, but only after Dobby finished showing him everything that had been done. All of the scrap was now sorted into neat piles of base materials or component types. The parts had all been ripped out of vehicles, and then cleaned, repaired and stored for future sale. In fact the droids and elves had basically finished with all the vehicles and spares parts, and had only refrained from taking apart the Sandcrawler till he told them what he wanted them to do with it. He told Dobby they could start whenever they wanted on dismantling and scrapping it.
All the refined metals, alloys, and basic scrap was perfect for Harry to use with his magic to change into whatever he needed for his production needs. Maybe in the future he may need to actually hire factories and construction lines, but for now his magic was quite adept at taking scrap and spare parts and transfiguring it into what he wanted. The basic limit was knowing what to build, having the materials, the correct components or parts, and his experience building that specific item. Once he did it one time, the next was always a LOT quicker.
Finally standing in his workshop, he got to work on what he needed to start producing blaster gas. Blaster gas came in a variety of types and sources like tabana gas, however they were mostly sorted into grades which were depicted by the colour of the bolt when it was discharged. Each improved grade increased the damage the blaster shot would cause, as the higher grade gasses could hold a larger electrical charge and for a longer time.
Red coloured blaster gas was the lowest quality. It was a lot cheaper than the next grade up, and for that reason was the blaster gas of choice for most criminal organizations, or anyone not flush with money. Next in line was green, which was a decent step up, but also came at a fairly large cost bump. Finally was yellow blaster gas which was the highest grade, and not often used outside of the special forces and sport shooting.
Thankfully they were mostly just grades of concentration of the blaster gas mixtures in question, as well as their mix. This meant that Harry could easily produce them in the same machine with separate runic arrays for each gas he needed to produce. Then the mixxer will do as it is named, and compile the proper mixes of gasses into their correct grade. All Harry or his droids had to do was attach whatever they wanted to fill, press the button for said blaster gas grade, and bam out pours condensed blaster gas. Usually it was sold in large canisters, or small tanks for personal refilling of blaster rifles.
That little project took him nearly four days since he had arrived back on Tatooine to complete. Just as he was about to start bringing it out of his workshop, and put just out the back door of his retail space for easy access, he got the oddest feeling or to be more specific a warning from his magic. It wasn't really a threat to him, but more that something was going to happen and he needed to tread carefully.
"Master, there are guests requesting you at the front of the store." Dobby said as he popped in beside Harry as he was carrying his new blaster gas mixer.
"Alright Dobby you can tell them I will be right there." he said as Dobby walked back into the store rather than popping to tell their guests. Harry now knew from experience that Elves could send messages to each other in some way without letting people know and the Elf up front must have alerted Dobby to tell Harry. After he had set down the machine and set it up quickly by simply plugging it into his, extremely rare for Tatooine, power grid for his complex, he then walked into his store. There were no power droids on his property, except those currently offline to be sold. He really didn't need small square walking fusion reactors around that could blow up his entire shop if damaged enough.
Inside there were a few of the typical goons that often worked for people as enforcers here on Tatooine, if a bit better equipped and clothed. However these were recognizable to him as they were the group who provided 'protection' for his shop on behalf of Jabba the Hutt.
"Good afternoon gentlemen." he said nodding to them before turning to their Weequay leader, who he now knew was named Yag Fli. "What can I do for you Yag?" he asked the leader who had treated him fairly since their first meeting.
"His Excellency, Jabba the Hutt has heard of your new ship, the upgrades to the spaceport, and about some of the actions over the last few years. He wishes to speak with you." Yag said calmly, but clearly made it known that it wasn't really a request, more of a demand for Harry to come with them to be presented to Jabba the Hutt. Now.
"That is fine by me, I have been meaning to get a meeting with Jabba sometime in the near future anyways to discuss a few possible business opportunities. Let me grab a crate of gifts for Jabba, and then we can leave." he said to Yag as he walked into his shop's back area to put a few consumable items he was planning to sell in the near future into a crate. Most of these items the Elves and droids had been working hard on getting production chains set up in his trunk farms for them. It was nothing serious but he had to grow quite a few crops to get some things made and had been part of the delay to opening up. Even with magic there were limits, but it was far easier and quicker to grow things in his magical rich trunk environments than the sun blasted desert of Tatooine.
For example, soybeans to make soy sauce, basically an essential ingredient according to him for any jerky. It was also part of the way he basically ensured he cornered the market on a product if it became popular because no one else could produce soybeans. That was just one example, but Harry quickly went about filling a normal silver looking metal crate with other examples of his wares.
Walking back out a couple of minutes later carrying a medium sized crate he saw that the goons were looking around his store that still had not opened yet. They weren't touching anything and were being respectful, but they were clearly interested, and were looking at a few of the products already on the shelves and their prices that were on display.
"You have a unique place here." Fig said as he noticed him walking back in.
"Well I hope to have a great store here on Tatooine, and it may even be the start of a large business empire for myself." he said in reply with a smile on his face and a bit of a laugh while winking his eye. "I just finished a land speeder before leaving for my trip, I wouldn't want to pass up the opportunity to spread the good word about it and do a bit of advertising. Therefore, Fig do you want to drive me to Jabba's palace in my speeder, and give it a try?" he asked the clearly intrigued Weequay.
"Sounds interesting, but we will have to give it a look first, Jabba's palace is still a distance away." Fig answered as he and his guys followed Harry out to the front of his shop where Harry had his speeder parked in a corner. He strapped the crate to his LSD-01 prototype, and got into the passenger seat, indicating to the main drivers seat for Fig.
From the look on the man's face he was excited to try it out, and was doing a few circles of the previously unknown landspeeder to him. "Yes, I have heard of this one, it is designed for the desert no? and Has a top speed above 300km/h?" Fig asked his rhetorical question, which Harry still nodded in affirmation to. "I didn't know you were the one behind the rumours of this landspeeder. I know a few who are already interested in getting one if they are as reasonably priced as the rumours say."
Fig kept talking and asking questions about the speeder as they started on their journey. After they left town, much to the dismay of the others, as Harry could feel it with his magic, Fig let the engines go free and left his comrades in the dust. The LSD-01 blew across that desert so smoothly it was amazing, as even the drag against the vehicle and wind in their face was reduced in part thanks to the particle shield. Thankfully they were going in the opposite direction of the dune sea, so they were able to blow through rocky ravines and across the nearly flat sand at stupid speeds.
When they finally pulled up to the large 'palace' building that was built on top of a few larger rock outcroppings, it had taken just under 3hrs, and they had even started to do a bit of a more roundabout route zigzagging back and forward as they waited for the others to catch up. At the front of the palace, there was a massive blast door of some kind, and little else outside, however Fig banged on the door, and an automated answer droid of some kind popped out of a small hatch. It was actually disconcerting for some reason having an eyeball like that on a rod.
It didn't take long for them to get inside, but they did have to pass a few security checks before they could enter. One thing Harry noticed was the fact that there was a lot of wealth on display, however at the same time it was still somewhat dirty in places, and could use a few droids dedicated to constant maintenance. Fig was carrying the crate now, following behind him and another alien attendant who led them in.
Walking into the massive room, there in the center was Jabba the Hutt sitting enjoying a pipe and a few slave dancers. Looking around Harry could actually only see one other human, with the rest being aliens, some species even Harry still couldn't put a name to. However the gorgeous Twi'lek dancers in the center, he certainly recognized from Polukas' memories and those seen around Tatooine, as they were some of the most desired slaves in the galaxy. He could see why, as they looked strikingly attractive.
The Hutt was a bit more intimidating up close though, and definitely didn't smell like flowers. However, Harry was not afraid, as neither his magic nor his past instincts told him he was in danger. The attendant who showed them the way walked up to Jabba and started whispering in his ear.
"Greetings to Jabba the Hutt." Harry said politely in Huttese, but without the reverence some others would use.
Jabba started looking him over, while Harry patiently waited for whatever Jabba called him here for. His magic was telling him to be calm and honest here, as that would serve him best in this 'pit' filled with criminals. Ironically. Whether that was because it would lead to the best outcome for him, or Jabba had some way to tell he was lying, he wasn't sure. Harry didn't personally feel the need to do otherwise either way, so went with his 'gut' feeling, or as he had been coming more to realize, that was his magic trying to 'speak' to him. After a few moments the deep rumbling of Jabba's voice was heard.
"You are the new human I have heard much about." Jabba said to him pointing with his small hand. "You have invested much in the planet, I wonder what your reasons are for doing so? And now you bring a large armed ship, I wonder why? hmm?" Jabba asked him, leaving the question in the air, but his implications were clear. Harry thought for less than a second then answered.
"I am Hadrian Peverell, and those are some of the things I have done. I decided after a trip here that Tatooine was ripe for opening up a shop and starting my business on. With it being outside the republic, but still not in Hutt space, all the while still being under the control of the Hutts, created a good opportunity for honest trade." Harry said as everyone around him quieted down so they could hear, but also not to impair Jabba's ability to hear Harry, something that was probably a death sentence. "To operate my business to the standards I wish to uphold, required that I had access to secure transport to and from the Corellian Run.
As a result I also then needed to have a secure site to load, and unload cargo from my ship to supply my shop. This led to expanding and investing in the additions to the spaceport, which I was assured was a good investment choice anyways. I hope that answers your questions regarding those topics." Harry happily supplied the giant slug the information because frankly it wasn't important, and was mostly the truth anyways.
"Some are saying you are trying to work your way into Tatooine's sands to force me out, and take over some of my business interests." Jabba said with an even deeper booming grumbly voice.
"Baseless rumours." Harry replied calmly. "In fact Jabba, you could be one of my best customers, there would be no reason for me to force you out, quite the opposite. Your presence also creates a level of order on this otherwise lawless planet that allows any merchants here to even operate a business." Harry said, explaining his real rationale for not wanting Jabba gone... for now at least. "If you would allow, I have brought a few samples of my products that I will be selling soon for you to try out first before anyone else." he said now trying to butter up the Hutt, and indicated to the crate Fig was now standing over having put it down.
Jabba clearly was thinking as he was even tapping under his mouth with his stubby finder. It was only ten seconds before Jabba answered, but Harry wasn't worried as his magic, which he honestly was coming to rely on quite a bit lately, was telling him things were going well.
"Hmm.. I am inclined to accept those reasons for now. Though, I am interested to see these products, show them to me and explain their uses." Jabba commanded sternly, but at the same time somehow reduced the tension in the room by quite a bit. Harry reached out with his magic and scanned the surface thoughts of some of the aliens in the room to see why that was the case.
Apparently Harry's reputation, and that of his servants had only grown even more since his departure for Corellia. He was seen as someone who treated everyone well, gave out tips, and even did honest business, not something heard of really here on Tatooine. However he was also supposedly this super dangerous monster hidden in the disguise of a human, and when treated the wrong way he would transform and brutally slaughter all those who had done so. Often only leaving behind mutilated corpses.
It was both shocking to Harry, and explained a bit of the tension in the room, as everyone was afraid he was going to get into a conflict with Jabba, and they were going to get caught in the crossfire. That being said, the reputation had a kernel of truth to it, and didn't really work against him, so he wasn't going to dissuade people from thinking what they wanted.
Harry grabbed his crate and brought it closer and in front of Jabba before opening it and started really getting into his merchant persona. Taking a breath and presenting a confident salesman front before he started his spiel.
"Well besides parts, and even whole units, for starships, droids, fighters, shuttles, podracers, speeders, and most small technology I can fit in my store to sell, I have a few unique and in high demand consumables for sale." Harry said using his magic to read the room, and to know just how to play it like a fiddle. He assumed there were quite a few high profile Tatooine individuals here today, and even some from offworld, therefore he was pitching to more than just Jabba.
"First up, something that I imagine will appeal to most in the room... is a variety of unique alcohols of my own creation based off of those from my home planet." he said, pulling out a small open top metal case with six bottles inside. When he first had decided to introduce a bunch of liquors unique to Earth, he knew he still needed a name to differentiate his line of alcohol from others. Therefore he chose Albion Alcohols, for the magical home he came from. Or AA as a bit of an inside terrible joke or it would have been had he realized before finalizing his name for his line of booze and then facepalming when he realized.
"These are the Albion lines of Rum, Vodka, Sake, Gin, Whisky, and Brandy." he said each name as he pulled out the corresponding bottles and put them on a table an attendant had quickly run out with for Jabba's gifts. "Each of these has a unique taste, and with a wide range of flavours for appreciative pallets." he said as he could hear and feel the rising excitement in the room, as getting things like alcohol here on Tatooine was not always easy, and new ones don't appear that often on the market.
The next product he was going to present would have upset some of the more conservative people back on Earth. However he truly felt that compared to the alternatives, it was a far better choice than what was already out there. That product was pot, cannabis, reefer, mary jane, whatever your chosen name was. How come Dobby had for some reason decided that pot of all things was a seed he needed to ensure he got Harry before they left still elude him. Dobby hadn't even gotten just a single strain, but hundreds of them. Apparently there had been some confusion for the Elf when he had heard about a growers convention in Amsterdam going on when he was doing some of the prep.
However he was not going to call it either Marijuana or pot, but was going to go with the name Cannabis, as it seemed to fit this galaxy far better. As he thought about the pot mystery, he held up five small plastic grey sealed baggies, that were only slightly transparent. "Here is a product I believe you may personally enjoy Jabba, and would be something you may even be interested in exporting with your ample connections." he said, getting everyone's attention back on him as they had been admiring the nice bottles for the various alcohols he had brought out.
"This is Cannabis, a naturally occurring plant that when smoked gives one a very calming and mellowing high. Great to be enjoyed when doing menial tasks, or in company and in places like this or a cantina." he said showing the baggies around and giving one to the attendant to bring closer to Jabba. Each little baggie had about 3 grams of pot in it, and each bag was a different strain that the Elves had started growing. He had even caught them partaking a few times, it seemed humans weren't the only species who enjoyed a bit of reefer every once and awhile.
"The best part is, that besides being a bit lazy for a few hours after consuming it, there are little to no other side effects in humans, and every other species I have tested it on so far." he said, still talking away before getting interrupted by Jabba.
"This Canyybus, you will be selling it in your store? Can you provide ample supply?" Jabba asked clearly intrigued as he opened the bag and looked at the pot and took a deep wif.
"Yes I will be selling Cannabis in my stores. Plus it is currently entirely legal in the republic, and bulk orders from someone such as yourself, would result in a nice discount." he said sweet-talking Jabba, before he started explaining the product in more detail. "You pull off the buds and leaves off the stem, then grind them up, not too finely just enough to ensure a smooth even burn and smoke it like any other smokable." he said indicating the water bong hookah crossover that Jabba had been puffing on since the start of their conversation.
Moving on Harry pulled out a very large clear bag of jerky, which contained a bunch of smaller bags with a variety of flavours and both Bantha and Nerf Jerky. "Here is one of my favorite snacks, Jerky. It is made out of Bantha or Nerf meat and comes in a variety of flavours. It can stay out in room temperatures for months and still be as good, if not better, than when it was first produced, as long as it's kept airtight." he said holding the meat snack up to the room mostly full of carnivorous aliens. He just knew Jerky was going to be a huge seller, and he was gonna have to up his animal farming and importing. He may even think about introducing beef Jerky if he got a few cows out of stasis.
"Finally my shop will sell a variety of consumables you all will recognize that I have found lacking in availability here on Tatooine." he said as he pulled out three small clear vials of blaster gas. "As you can see we will be selling blaster gas of three grades for purchase at my shop, along with powerpacks, hypermatter, and a few other solid types of fuels." he finished his speech as he put the last few examples on the tall table. Most of these last items he was going to be importing from the republic for now, except for blaster gas. Blaster gas was basically free money for him now he had finished his machine. Thankfully that same gas was used in everything from a handheld blaster to massive quad turbo laser embankments on large capital ships.
Clearly the whole room was excited by some of his offerings, each probably finding an item they wanted the most. Even Jabba was excited, and Harry's magic sent him a feeling of success. "As you can see Great Jabba, with this type of cargo there is quite the need for proper protection of my transports, hence my well armed ship. I hope you can understand." he said, laying it on a bit thick.
"Hmm, yes I can see that. I will have these goods tested, and if they are as you say, I will send someone to discuss any other purchases I may make to your shop." Jabba said dismissing Harry without even a goodbye, as Jabba looked over and started a quiet conversation with his close attendant or superdomo.
"This way." Fig said to Harry indicating back the way they came and to his speeder. It was a fairly uneventful drive back to his shop, as he had left Fig behind with his own men. There wasn't even anything exciting to mention like Jawa sightings, or Tusken raiders attacking. Nope it was just a calm, fairly tranquil drive at 350 km/h through the desert as the suns started to go down creating some nice colouring. There was a certain beauty to a dual sunset, however it seemed after a few tests he may need to update the LSD-01's top speed.
As he pulled up to his shop, he saw a few droids and two Elves working on putting his new signs out front, including the big Hadrian Peverell Incorporated across the top of the gate. On each side on the two boards, it advertised some of what he was selling, which was quite different from any other shop around. Quite a few merchants didn't even have names or signage at all.
On his boards read what types of things were sold there, including advertisements for his new model of sand speeder. It also said they accepted and even exchanged Republic Credits here, but for a cut of course. The advertisements showed they sold food, and even water, but most of all, Harry was just happy that his shop was finally opening soon. There was even a big red banner with gold letters just under the top of the gate saying grand opening in 4 days, in Huttese and Basic.
However, now that he was home Harry started to reflect on the meeting he had just had. Apparently he was causing more waves than he had thought, and certainly attracting more attention than he had expected. It seemed the rumour mills here were even worse than he had expected, not that it didn't work in his favour. However that really meant he needed to speed up a few of his plans, as he also concluded that with his demonstration the demand for some of his products would be far higher than he initially projected with a softer opening.
Going upstairs to the second floor and to his desk with Holonet connection, he called to Dobby causing the Elf to appear.
"Dobby, I am going to need you to expand the various production facilities for our booze, and our farms for our crops." Harry said to his friend who popped in beside him. "Is there going to be enough Elves to go around?" he asked, a little worried as he hadn't actually talked with Dobby since they had arrived about the growing population of Elves. He wondered if he was giving them too much work to do or something.
"No master, since arriving with all the work the Elves have received we have seen many children being born, and there are still more who need work." Dobby said excitedly, surprising Harry as he hadn't thought there would be new elves so quickly.
"Do I need to bond with them too?" he asked, a bit confused about the process.
"Oh no master. They are born bonded to you as they come from two house elves already bonded to you." Dobby said to him almost like he was a child, which was a bit amusing. However, Harry was surprised as he honestly had not felt any additional drain on his magic.
Looking in internally, something he had been a bit too busy to do lately, he was frankly surprised. It seemed his core was growing even quicker than he expected in the super magic rich environment. It was no wonder he didn't notice the new bonds, as all the bonds combined now still took only a fraction of what they did of his magic when he had even less Elves when he had first arrived on Tatooine.
He didn't think his rapid core size growth was due to any one thing, but a combination of factors, between the rituals, the environment, the boost from the Hallows, the constant large drain from the elves, the removal of the soul shard, and even the fact that technically his core was still young and in its largest growth period for a few more decades still. Usually around 35 a Wizard core stopped growing so rapidly, but that is not always the case, and Harry was technically still only around 19-20 magically, as it was hard to tell his exact age with how often he used his time turner in the first three years he was here. He still uses it often, but not quite as much as when he had been power learning several dozen different fields of study.
"Alright then Dobby, I will leave that in your hands. Let me know if you feel you need more droids to help out, I can always put in an order for some." he said after he finished internalizing the changes to his magical core.
Dang he really needed to go and finish up his two projects he had spent most of his trips doing the coding for on his Padd, but he also needed to make a few orders first, as things were moving far too quickly for his liking now. With that he placed an order through CEC's automated system for returning customers, for 3 additional CR90s to be named HPI Trade 2, 3, 4. They were great ships and gave him a level of force projection to ward off nosy advances into his interests, as he anticipated a few major attempts to fuck with him in the near future. He didn't need his magic to tell him that.
He also ordered another three sets of droids to crew the crafts minus the battle droids, 60 in total. They cost on average was about 3500 credits each, with some of them including the medical droid costing significantly more, and the maintenance droids far less. Thankfully these types of droids were easily ordered, and had few if any restrictions on them. However between the ships and droids he was already set back 16 million credits out of his balance of 42 million.
For his next two orders however he had an issue. For both his starfighters he wanted to buy, and for additional combat droids, he had to go through a few bureaucratic hoops first. At least if he wanted to do it legally. The thing was that most of the Outer Rim territories were free trade zones, however the Galactic Republic and core worlds have been pushing for taxation on said trade routes and planets for years now. The big trading companies, like the Trade Federation and Techno Union, and even many planets have been adamantly opposed to these moves, and tensions have been rising for decades now.
So the republic instituted new laws to force the Trade Federation to break up certain monopolies on trade routes or at least allow for competition in the outer rim from smaller companies like his own in exchange for senate representation. However some of those same senators knew that to operate out here, those same new companies would need ample armaments to protect them from pirates, raiders, slavers and more. Therefore sneakily they put strict regulations of purchasing said armaments that were hard to get lifted, that is unless you registered a corporate headquarters on a republic world.
This was kind of smart of the senators, as their goal was more to get money, and while the sectors out here are free 'trade' zones, and therefore not subject to republic wide taxes, a company that registered a HQ on a republic world would be subject to a small amount of planetary tax on their profits within Republic space. While the larger companies like the Trade Federation didn't care as they simply registered on a planet they controlled and paid little to no taxes that way. It was the smaller companies that were affected the most, which due to all the new laws that were now popping up all over the place, could make it hard to operate without protection purchasable after registering. This made for a decent bump in a lot of planetary governments' working budgets.
Sure it didn't get the Core worlds their big bucks from taxing the big corporations, but it did bring in additional money for many worlds. Gaining their senators praise. This made them feel like it was a win even if at the same time they loosened certain regulations, and gave the Trade Federation a senate seat. Harry could see it was just going to make things even more difficult in the future, and most likely radicalize and start an arms race with some of the pirates or other factions out there. It was super short sighted, and no wonder so many people avoided legitimate business if you needed to know this much just to operate a small shipping company. Tatooine for now was going to still be his company's main headquarters and primary operational base, but it seemed he would need a HQ on a Republic world somewhere.
All said, what this meant for Harry was to be able to order his desired starfighters, and his additional combat droids, he needed to find an appropriate republic world to register his Republic company HQ on. It didn't even need to be a core world, just one represented in the Galactic Senate. Most people in his position just registered where they felt like, usually in a low tax planet, and paid their taxes and didn't even bother with setting up an actual presence on the world they chose.
To Harry this screamed inefficiency, and he wanted to choose a world that was both not too far from him, but also had something to offer. So with this in mind he quickly started to review possible planets in the surrounding sectors around Tatooine. Honestly there were far more planets to choose from then he expected, as it seemed the senate's reach was far. That being said some were discarded immediately, but he kept coming back to two worlds, both of which his magic was indicating would be good choices.
The first was Eriadu, which was a planet at the intersection of a couple key hyperlanes for trading across the galaxy. It was an industrialized waste land, but could offer Harry ample factory space to produce whatever items he comes up with to sell in the future. It had a lower crime rate due to proactive actions by some organizations in the sector. It was also in the Outer Rim so still had some freedoms from Republic oversight white still being a Republic world, unfortunately it was quite a bit further than his next choice.
The second planet he was seriously looking at was Naboo. There were a couple of reasons he was looking at this planet. Mainly it was because it was closer than his other choice, but also because he did miss humans somewhat, and it had a large human population. It was a short straight shot down the Triellus Trade Run with one small jog to Naboo, and would take just about a day with a class 1. However, the main reason is that it was home to a company, Theed Hangars, who produces some amazing ships for the Naboonian government, but they also acted as a distributor for Nubia Star Drives Incorporated.
This was an important factor for Harry. Nubia Star Drives was a company based on the planet Nubia down near Corellia in the core; they were responsible for researching, designing, and manufacturing some of the most elegantly designed, powerful, and reliable spaceship components galaxy wide. They were well known for both their hyperdrives, and their Sublight drives. However there was a catch of course, that being you paid for what you got, with their components sometimes being far more expensive than other offerings.
Price was not much of an issue for Harry at the moment, and performance was an important factor to him. They would be amazing components for him to work with for anything he wanted to use personally, or even to study and possibly improve on. They were one of the leading experimental firms, and he could learn a lot from what they build. Ships were also to some respects modular, so he may even in the future upgrade ships from other companies with NSD components.
For that reason, and the slightly larger nudge from his magic, he chose to go with Naboo instead, but still kept Eriadu in mind for the future. With his decision made, he finally registered his business out of Naboo. Another positive aspect of having to pay taxes on a republic world was proof of his business scale. This would come in handy once again when he starts hitting his corporate limits on restricted hardware that he just raised.
Thankfully, as slow as the Republic could be when trying to make any new decisions, their systems were mostly run by droids, who knew what they were doing. At least most of the time, so it only took a few minutes for him to get back a confirmation and an updated digital business license he can send to companies he is making purchases from.
He ordered another 100 GU series battle droids he slightly customized, and had them shipped to Corellia once again. These droids were fairly expensive compared to most of the others he had bought, but they were capable units that could act on their own if required, and came already lightly armoured. Their cost was 9,600 credits each, quite the price for a droid. Getting them proper equipment brought the whole package to 12,500 credits per droid, but they would perform their role extremely well. There was a reason many tight security planets used GU-series droids for their security or police force.
His next order he placed was for 50 of a newer model of starfighter from Kuat Systems Engineering called the CloakShaped fighter or CS fighter. They have been trying to unsuccessfully shop it around to various Republic buyers, but most believed it was overkill and not required in this time of peace. However they were still being bought up by a few corporations and planetary fleets keeping the production line limping along.
With his new permissions he now can purchase this semi-restricted starfighter. The CS was probably the best bang for your buck of any starfighter Harry could find, and by a large margin. At a base brice of 60,000 credits each and an additional 12,000 credits for some optional upgrades, it was perfect for what Harry wanted.
It had great acceleration, an extremely high atmosphere speed of 950 km/h, enough to catch almost all other ships or fighters, high armour and shield rating, 2 laser cannons, 2 missile launchers with 16 missiles, proton torpedo launcher with 4 torpedoes to hit way up the weight classes, and could go to hyperspace with the help of a sled.
For its price it was an amazing piece of hardware, and that was why it was going to be his first general starfighter. The only two downsides was it was a bit larger than some of the smaller starfighters on offer, and had only average maneuverability. This meant he would only be able to fit 4 in his CR90 hangars, with the additional 3 attached outside to hardpoints on the outside of the ship with their sleds packed away inside.
Even then he still had some major modifications to be done on them as he was going to be ripping out the cockpit, and life support for the pilot. He was going to be replacing it with his droid control unit, additional sensor packages, and possibly depending on what he assesses when he actually has his hands on a unit, a navigation unit to replace the astromech required for hyperspace navigation.
It was going to be an exciting project, and would make for a good learning experience on what his limits were when it comes to engineering new designs. While he will still be using certain premade components such as the hyperdrive, he will be experimenting as he goes along around developing his own systems, such as the deflectors.
The first thing he needed to do was get his dam assistance droid finished and working, as it would streamline a ton of his operations for him. It would allow him to concentrate on actually making something new and not what form he needs to fill out or what fee he needs to pay to this government body. He was glad he spent quite a bit of time on its programming fleshing it out, as it was quickly becoming an instrumental part of his planned operations.
With that Harry apparated from his office to his workshop, and got to building his droid assistant. He reached out with his magic and let it seep into all the material here inside his workshop and in the sorted piles outside. This allowed him to simply will the material he needs and it will simply float to him without him even really doing anything consciously, it was extremely helpful. Sometimes he would even find something he had not even consciously asked for but would find it to be a perfect fit for what he needed next. The body Harry envisioned for his assistance droid, was based off of a few probe droids he had seen, in that it is a round floating ball that used a repulsor to move about. It would have a detailed senor and communication package, and an extending arm that came from inside to be able to interact with its environment.
The biggest thing, and what took so long, was building in the droid brain with enough data banks and processing power to make this droid truly amazing. For once Harry used his magic in spades and runes directly on one of his projects, as this was not something he was going to be selling or making many of, if he even ever made another again.
He put cooling runes EVERYWHERE to allow him to pack it to the gills with processors and other hardware. He also put impervious charms on its body to ensure it could take a number of hits before breaking. About the only thing he could say was a drawback about its design, and even that was a stretch, was that it still needed to have its powercell charged once every decade or so, at least from his calculations. It took Harry three days to finish, even though it was smaller than the sand speeder, it was definitely a far more complicated and taxing project. He had even slipped a few spatial expansion charms in to fit everything due to running out of space.
Once it was finished it looked like a small 50 cm ball, done in black with a few tiny antennas sticking out of the top. Otherwise it was fairly nondescript, except for it being unique, as all the runes were hidden inside. Harry had to concentrate on his magic and use it to flip the switch on the droid to power it on, as he had decided to install it on the inside, and left no ports on the outside to allow droid spikes or slicers access. It would know a lot about Harry so it needed to be protected as well as he could. Hence why he also added a tracking charm tied to him via his blood.
It booted up and presented Harry with the smooth older female voice that just calmed someone when they heard it. He had programmed the personality to be incredibly intelligent, but also genial and calm when needed. He decided to call her PA-01, and she was quite happy with her destination. They had talked for nearly eight hours, as she kept asking Harry questions about the shop, business, his plans, and what he wanted to achieve with his projects and life. She even asked him about his likes, wants, and expectations for others. Which was a weird subject to discuss with a droid.
Her intelligence really shined through, as even Harry had trouble figuring out the reason for a few of her questions, and he was unnaturally smart due to his magic and rituals. Thankfully Harry finally finished with the interrogation and made it to his room to get some sleep as he wanted well rested to do some final checks. He also wanted to talk with the droids and Elves tomorrow, as the shop was opening the day after. With that last thought Harry fell asleep in his room above the shop.
Well I once again hope everyone enjoyed this installment, and I shall see you all on the morrow with another chapter! May the Force be with you!
