Amanda hadn't heard from this man in a long time. Ever since she left Atlanta and came to New York. It didn't seem real, it seemed like a dream.
Her head was in a fog. Shit she wasn't sure he was even there til he spotted her at her desk. He came right over
"So you bring your ass to New York of all places? You took my son over state lines without permission?"
Amanda got up bracing herself. Making sure her piece was in her holster on her hip. She looked for the nearest room that was empty, not wanting to be alone with him but sure as shit not wanting her business around the entire squad room. She took him to one of the interrogation rooms.
"What in the hell are you doing here? We are divorced and I have full custody. You never wanted Brayden anyway."
She got closer to the door. She didn't trust him, she had every reason not to. He wasn't afraid to hit her. He did it at their home with Brayden in the other room. He sure wouldn't care about her co-workers. He advanced closer to her.
"You disappeared, you know how long it took me to find you. You're my wife and you dipped on our marriage. You kidnapped my son and left."
She looked at him, trying to keep her cool and not bait him. Last thing she wanted was to be humiliated at her job by her ex husband hitting her.
"WE ARE NOT MARRIED DEREK. We are divorced. I was there the day it was final. I got custody of Brayden cause you didn't want him. You are an abusive son of a bitch that I don't have to deal with anymore cause you are not part of my life anymore."
That did it. He came over and backhanded her. Hard. Just like old times. She crashed into that wall. Olivia heard the "WHAT THE FUCK DEREK" Just as she burst through the door, the tall man with huge arms had backhanded Amanda once more.
"HEY! WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE HITTING MY DETECTIVE? YOU WANNA SIT YOUR ASS IN JAIL FOR THE NIGHT? TOUCH HER AGAIN... I DARE YOU."
He looked at Olivia. "My wife and I were having a discussion and she got rude with me." Amanda shook her head as she rubbed it. Praying this time he didn't give her a concussion. Olivia however was pissed. She knew about this man, she knew what he did but what she didn't know was they were still married.
"She is not your wife. You are divorced. And you are however under arrest as you assaulted a police officer. Not once but twice." Olivia pulled out her cuffs and mirandised him. Yanking him out of the room as rough as she could and put him in a holding cell. She didn't care about all the obscenities he was yelling about Amanda or about her. As Olivia was locking up Derek, Amanda made her way to the bathroom. Damn she had left her make-up in her desk and wouldn't ya know.. the marks on her face were right there in the open. She stayed in the bathroom for a bit, she was pissed and she was embarrassed. She also called the school to make sure her son was okay and that Derek hadn't of been there. Olivia had gone over to just look at the man in the cell. He wasn't a big man, He was about the height of his son. He looked at her, his green eyes glaring "Just an FYI you nosey bitch. That slut of a detective of yours is still legally my wife. There was a problem and the divorce wasn't final and she left state lines with my son."
It had been a bit. For the time being Derek was being held. Olivia easily obtained that since he had physically assaulted her detective not once but twice. She was just concerned for Amanda. Amanda had just opened up to her about being married and being abused. She was stuck right now cause noone knew they were together but all she wanted to do was take her girlfriend out of the precinct, comfort, hold and talk to her.
She went and found that Amanda had hidden in the bathroom. She went in and locked the door. The hell with it. The rest of the station could use the other bathroom. She saw her girlfriend sitting in the window. Arms wrapped around her knees and her head resting on the top of her knees. Olivia walked slowly over to the shaken blonde her voice light and caring.
"Hey, you wanna talk to me? It's only us in here. Or I can bring you to my office?"
Amanda looked at her, "I don't think the bathroom is a right place to talk. Besides I don't really wanna talk about this."
Olivia looked at her, "Not gonna lie Amanda, but I'm deeply worried about you. We need to talk. We were hostile this morning and if Noah felt it then so did Brayden. Plus since he's left you alone all these years and just now popping back up. He did call you his wife, are you sure that divorce is final?"
Amanda growled "Just drop it. I want to go home. Brayden should be getting home soon."
Olivia looked at her, her voice getting soft "Amanda, why did you growl at me? I'm worried about you. We've talked and you opened up to me now all the sudden you're getting an attitude."
Amanda looked at her, "Look just drop it I said. He's the ex-husband I will deal with him. ALONE." She stormed out of the bathroom.
Amanda went on back home. She had enough for today. Everything hitting her at once. Her son having a major attitude problem. Her ex-husband showing back up and doing what he did best. Her son there when she got there. He wasn't in any kind of mood, just quiet actually. When Amanda asked him what was up, he said nothing and went to his room. He was hurting, Amanda was hurting and Olivia was hurting as well. Noah reached out and text Brayden.
"Hey Bray, just wanted to see what's up. You avoided me all day at school. And now our moms are upset with each other. My moms over here upset and worried bout your mom cause apparently your dad showed up at work. Your mom pushed my mom away."
Brayden got upset. His dad after all these years. His mom not telling him. What the hell? How dare she not tell him. He text Noah back.
"What the hell do you mean my dad came to their work? My mom hasn't said shit? What the fuck?"
Before Noah could type a reply Bray went to go find his mother. He was pissed off.
"Ma, I'm not a child. I have a right to know these things. Especially when it affects my friends."
Amanda looked over at him, her son standing there with his arms folded and looking pissed off.
"Brayden what in the hell are you going off about here? After all you find it okay to come in here and talk to me like that."
Brayden looked at her, his tone very curt. "Well I wanna know why you find it okay to lie to me?"
Amanda sat up straight, "What in the hell are you talking about Brayden Thomas? What did I so call lie about?"
He came closer, his green eyes boring into hers "You're really gonna ask that Ma? Really? You're gonna play dumb?"
Amanda looked at him, "Look for one I'm tired of you being a disrespectful shit to me. You've been treating me like shit for the past couple days. Now what in the hell is your problem?"
He let into her about her not telling him that his dad was back. That he was in town. She hadn't had a chance to say anything, it all happened so damn fast. She tried explaining to him that she didn't even know he was in town let alone gonna show up at her job.
She looked at him, taking a deep breath, "Brayden Thomas, what the actual fuck? You think I called him behind your back? No I didn't. I'm so sick of fighting with you over this. You really want to know the truth as to why I left? Why he didn't come looking for you? Cause once I tell you, there's no going back."
He looked at her, stepping right to her. "I think I'm owed the truth. Since you haven't told me at all. It's just cover ups and bullshit. Tell me the damn truth and stop skirting around it for christssakes Ma. I'm thirteen friggen years old almost fourteen. I ain't a damn baby."
She was tired of the disrespect. She hauled off and smacked his face. "So sick of it Brayden. So goddamn sick of it. Go ahead flip out cause I smacked you. I'll do it again. Maybe you'll gain more respect if I bust your ass more often. But since you want to make all the jokes about shit. Yes the reason your dad and I split up is cause he beat me. Beat me many nights. Was smart never to do it in front of you cause he ain't want a witness. Some of the reasons was cause he was just a jealous asshole and couldn't hold his temper. Other reason and yes this is legit Brayden cause I lived it. It was because I encouraged you to dance. Because I encouraged you dancing and having fun. He would always say 'stop dancing, or he's gonna be a fairy or faggot when he's older and no child of mine will be either of those.' So yes Brayden I did get my ass beat, and it was mostly defending my son."
Brayden was shocked, he didn't even realize. He never knew his father didn't like his dancing. Just the couple times when his dad told him he needed to get into sports. He didn't think anything of it. Probably because his mom encouraged him. He just went upstairs to get his dancing gear since he had to go to class soon. Leaving Amanda downstairs in her own head. She had just told her son everything. Well not the details. While Brayden was getting ready, Derek had been down in lockup but had gotten ahold of a lawyer and was released on a promise to appear. Once Brayden was ready she drove him to dance.
"Are you planning on having Noah over after dance?" she asked with her tone even.
He looked over at her, "I don't know. After all this shit today. I want him to but you and Olivia aren't talking."
Amanda sighed, "He can come over if he wants Bray, and you can invite him. I have no issue with him being over. You know this. But before I drop you off. Are we good? I told you everything. I don't want hostility between us."
Brayden looked over at his mom. She was right all she did do was protect him and love him. She embraced his dancing. "Yeah ma, we are okay. Not gonna lie I'm still upset but I'll get over it."
She dropped Brayden off at his class. She felt bad, but she also was doing what she could to protect her son. What she didn't know was she had been followed by Derek who she was unaware was out of jail. Brayden was happy however to just be able to dance and be free for a bit. She went to the precinct to grab some paperwork to fax her lawyer. She was there for a little bit making sure all of it was done correctly. Olivia was in her as well, only difference was she was in her office. They still weren't talking that much. Then the scanner went off
"ALL UNITS RESPOND TO STEPPING OUT STUDIOS, SHOTS HAVE BEEN FIRED. MALE ENTERED SCHOOL AND OPENED FIRE, NO CASUALTIES RIGHT NOW BUT THERE ARE MULTIPLE INJURIES. ALL UNITS WE NEED BACK UP. ACTIVE SHOOTER MALE BOUT 6FT TALL BROWN HAIR. WE ARE TRYING TO GET THE SITUATION UNDER CONTROL, AMBULANCE IS ON THE WAY"
Amanda jumped up when she heard that. She tried to text her son, wasn't getting any answer. She started to leave when Olivia rushed out of her office. She had obviously heard the same thing Amanda did. "Amanda I'm going with you. Noah is there too and he's not answering texts." Amanda nodded, not really knowing what to do. The news still hitting her head. Olivia however grabbed her hand and ran out to get a squad car. It took them a little bit to get there cause of the road blocks and other officers. Amanda saw the school, the windows had been shot out. She could see a tall figure standing and firing.
An officer saw them, recognized Amanda. God he hated to have to tell her this. "Ms Rollins, your son has been shot. Alot of blood loss. Ms. Benson your son is with him. He's okay but we are waiting for the paramedics to get to here."
So what yall think is gonna happen to Brayden? Who do you think shot him? Will Amanda and Olivia work things out?
