Chapter 18
3rd P.O.V
"Chief, meet my Jasper," Secelia introduced her mate to Charlie. Charlie looked at the man in front of him. He stared, and took notice of the way he had his arm around Secelia protectively. Charlie nodded before turning back to Secelia.
"So you two are back up?" He asked crossing his arms raising an eyebrow. Jasper chuckled, "No sir, we're just here to watch the show, and maybe keep you from killing Garrett." He said making Charlie laugh.
"Why don't you two come on in?" He invited them in before calling up the stairs, "Bells the calvary has arrived!" Bella raced down the stairs nearly tripping on the last step. "Jasper, Secelia," She greeted, her eyes scanning the room looking for Garrett.
"Jay, We're chopped liver! We've been replaced!" Secelia mock cried. "Darlin, I ask pretty sure that no one can replace ya." Jasper says wrapping an arm around her waist.
"I see what ya mean Bells, he's like white on rice with her, your mate better have some self control or I will put Gen's skill with a venom bullet gun to the test." Charlie stated before going to the kitchen and grabbing a beer.
"Speaking of black eyed warrior, here, these came in from Marcus." Charlie stated handing her a bag. Secelia took a seat on the couch opening the bag, with a laugh she pulled out a pack of Benson & Hedges cigarettes, and a case of Italian Peach beer.
"Cigarettes, beer?" Jasper asked with a hint of disapproval making his mate turn to him pouting. The Major inside of him groaned mentally, 'Aw, fuck, how can we deny our girl when she looks at us with those big white eyes and pouty pink lips that wrap-'
'Major! Not now!' Jasper warns because shit, now he was considering letting her keep them as his mating instincts try to act up. Luckily before his thoughts can get too wild Charlie's voice draws his attention.
"Hey, Mister, none of that over protective shit, that woman is a hybrid, cigarettes and beer won't kill her!" Charlie defended. "Yes, sir," Jasper said and his mate beams up at him.
Bella snorted, "As if she didn't have to tell you the same thing. You forgot to giver her this." Bella said moving to the kitchen and grabbing the embossed braille letter. A knock on the door grabbed everyone's attention.
Charlie opened the door to the nervous orange eyed vampire. The vampire seemed twitchy, Charlie turned looking at Jasper.
"Jasper, son, is this normal vampire behavior?" He asked causing Jasper to chuckle, "I'm afraid that is just Garrett, He's not used to being around humans." Jasper explained. Charlie huffed.
"Well he'll have to start getting used to this human," He said before turning back to Garrett who looked ready to bolt.
"Get in here, son," Charlie invited Garrett in shutting the door behind him. Bella went to her mate grabbing his hand. "Charlie, let me introduce you to my brother in arms Garrett Whitlock," Jasper stood with his mate clasping the surprised newly named Whitlock.
Charlie turned to Secelia, "More Whitlocks, are y'all starting a club?" He asked causing Garrett to burst out laughing. Charlie turned,
"About time you did something other than look like all you wanted to do was bolt, and then you would hurt our girl, so let me make this clear, Garrett Whitlock," Charlie said stepping forward in front of Garrett clasping his shoulders making the vampire tense.
"If you ever hurt my daughter, I will kill you," He said then let's go. He turned to Jasper, and sized him up. Jasper could feel the Major rise up in him threatening to take over as Charlie took him by the shoulders.
"You, while Secelia may not be my daughter, she just as well may be, if you ever hurt her, I will kill you, got it?" He asked. The threat was very sincere and it made the Major take over.
"Shit, Gen!" Charlie called jerking away from the vampire to the corner of the room, head down and hands raised. The General took over and moved in front of Charlie, not because she thought her mate would hurt him, but to ease Charlie's peace of mind. The Major stared at the man who was behind his mate, the human who was directing concern his way. What was it with these Swans? Humans were to fear him!
"Why are you concerned?" The question was out of his mouth before he could stop himself. The male, Charlie slowly put his hands down.
"Your eyes just went flat black, son, I am not stupid, black eyes on a vampire mean one of two things." Charlie said.
"Nice, Chief, but The Major ain't gonna take a bite outta ya, Jasper is like us in more ways than one. That's not Jasper, Chief meet Major Whitlock, Major meet Chief police Charlie Swan." The General introduced moving to stand at the Major's side.
The Major looked at Charlie, and Charlie stared back.
"If you're waiting for me to take back my threat of killing you if you ever hurt your mate, you're going to be waiting for eternity, Son," Charlie finally said before turning to Garrett who sat beside Bella on the couch. The Major was a bit shocked at how a human threatened to kill him, and then does it again.
The Major looked at his mate, and his mates black unseeing eyes stared at him. They both seemed to have the same thought.
"Swan's!" They exclaimed in unison causing the room to melt into laughter.
It was later that Secelia and Jasper made there way to the Cullen house giving Bella, Charlie, and Garrett time alone.
"Here, Peter, I believe Gen owes you one." Secelia said giving him a bottle of the peach beer.
"Hell yes! Thanks! Jay have you ever had Italian peach beer? Marcus finds the best!" Peter stated. Carlisle froze wide eyed.
"Marcus? Don't joke like that Peter, Marcus isn't one to buy beer, he barely ever leaves the castle!" Carlisle says angered by the disrespect to his friend.
"That changed in 1975, Marcus had a little emotional healing, and it changed again when he found distant relatives in Bella and Charlie Swan. " Charlotte says flickering her eyes to Secelia.
"Enough of this, read the letter, Lia, I got a strange feeling that it's important." Peter declared. Secelia lays the embossed paper on the coffee table and starts to read aloud.
"Dear, General Secelia Aphrodite Whitlock,
I am writing this letter to inform you of a very strange development. About three days ago, three hybrids showed up in Volturi, looking for the Whitlocks. They said something about running into Garrett who didn't believe it when they said they were Whitlocks.
However due to my brother's gift we know for a fact that they are. Before I tell you their names, I was informed by the youngest sibling that has a gift similar to Peter Whitlock that I was to tell you-"
Secelia froze her hands shaking as they trailed across the paper. She looked at Peter, and then Charlotte before choking out, "The fires aren't the end." She breathed pulling back to the paper. She swallowed harshly.
Everyone watched confused as Peter and Charlotte dropped to their knees holding one another.
"That's not fuckin possible!" Charlotte breathed out.
"One way to find out, call him!" Peter said just as broken up. With shaking hands Secelia dialed Marcus.
"Ciao, Secelia, I was told to expect your call soon, can I assume you have the letter?" The light voice of Marcus Volturi shocked everyone but the three who were clearly shaken up.
"Yes, I haven't even finished reading it, but I just needed," She trailed off a hitch in her voice as she wrapped a arm around her mates.
"Ah, Mio caro, I believe I have something that can help with that, unfortunately the three aren't here at the moment. They have went with Jane, Alec, Felix, and Demetri to go and I quote, "Get some air from the stifling walls of the castle," but I have sent you a picture. I took yesterday, let Peter and Charlotte confirm it." Marcus suggested as a message came through. With shaking hands Secelia handed the phone to her mate, who handed it to Peter.
"We'll be there by the end of the week," Peter choked out hanging up and staring at the image. "It's them!" Charlotte laughs historically,
"I'd recognize that purple hair anywhere, that blonde head of curls, and gods, I never thought I'd be happy to see that blue eyed glare! It's them, Secelia, Gen, Dite! It's fuckin them!" She choked out. Secelia clutched at her chest,
"I'm going to pass out now, Pete, Char, if you'd please explain?" She questioned before promptly falling against her mate.
Jasper was confused by Peter handing him the phone.
"Just look, we'll explain after you figure it out." Peter said. Jasper starred down at the image. A young blonde man had an arm wrapped around both girls on either side. His face was vacated and void of emotion but violet expressive eyes said it all. Those eyes made him ache to soothe whatever pain the boy had been through. Jasper couldn't help but notice the similarities between the young man and his mate. His tense posture, the way he seemed to say everything within a glance, and the way his face was shaped like his mates.
Jasper lets his gaze wander to the purple haired girl at his side. Light lavender eyes framed by thick purple lashes, lips twisted into a light smile, but her body language spoke of pain. Jasper couldn't help but notice the way she leaned against the blonde as if she were having trouble holding herself up. Again there were similar features. She had his mates cute button nose, and her smile. Jasper felt his breath catch because he was coming to a conclusion that he wasn't sure what to do about.
However it was the last girl that made him fully realize what he was looking at. Blue piercing eyes glare into the camera. They spoke of pain, heartache, and yet hope, so much hope, but it's the way she has her chin raised definitely, and the scar that runs across her neck that makes the Major rattle his cage. Jasper looks over the three again this time. His eyes taking in every scar on them that he hadn't noticed the first time.
He feels the Major take his place as he had obviously came to the same conclusion that Jasper himself was coming too.
"Captain, just what am I looking at?" The Major asks softly running a hand through his mates hair as she lays against him.
"Major, meet Jayson, Rosie, she's the one with the matching hair color to your mates, and Avery the youngest. Whitlocks obviously, we thought they were dead, Zane," Peter paused spitting the name before turning to everyone. "Zane is the leader of the hybrid army, and just so happens to be Jayson's and Rosie's biological father, not that he deserves the title, we call him the bastard, anyway we were sure they were dead." Peter takes a deep breath, but before he can continue his phone rings. Peter takes it out looking at an unknown number. The Major feels his mate become aware of her surroundings, but it was obvious that her mind was still processing things and she wasn't fully with him. The Major tightened his hold on her wanting his mate to feel safe as her mind processed whatever it needed too.
"Hello?" Peter asks
"Uncle Peter! Thank goodness one of the Whitlocks has the same phone number!" A feminine voice says. "Did Garrett find y'all, never-mind obviously, No Aves I am not questioning the accuracy of your gift!" The female huffed.
"Rosie," Peter choked out,
"Yeah, oh sh-" A loud clang.
"Rosa, you're not supposed to be walking around yet especially with the way your paralysis has been acting up!" A soft male voice scolded.
"You're just as overprotective as Mamma Gen, Jayson, grab my phone, I was talking to Uncle Peter, and I was only walking a bit around this park and was about to sit when my legs gave out!" Rosie huffed.
"Fine but stay seated, I swear you have Mom's inability to stay still. Hi, Uncle Pete," Jayson said into the phone.
"Jayson, How the hell are you three alive right now?" Peter asked. The Major could swear that Peter and Charlotte both looked like they were about to cry. Another huff on the phone, this one a wheeze.
"Before we get into all of that Avery has been signing the same question ever since I called. I don't understand it, but maybe you will, she asks, and I quote, "Did Mamma find the safe man?" She seems really impatient for an answer." Rosie says. Peter's eyes flashed to The Major.
"Ask her to elaborate, who's the safe man?" Peter asked his eyes flickered to The Major again.
"She says, blonde hair, gold eyes, black eyes, white eyes, Mammas safe man. That's all she's saying." Rosie explains. The Major raised an eyebrow as Peter laughed.
"I don't think anyone has ever called Major Jasper Ares Whitlock a safe man before!" Peter chuckles. There is a little growl over the phone. Then another voice spoke hesitantly, but harshly.
"Leave the safe man alone, Uncle Peter, or else," The threat was left hanging. The Major could feel Peters surprise at the voice. The Major also noticed the wheezing in the voice as if it was restricted, tight, and raspy. He was also surprised by the clear protectiveness in the voice, and something about it made his chest warm with an unfamiliar feeling. Well it wasn't unfamiliar, but it was something he had only felt for his mate.
"Or else what, Aves, gonna dye my hair pink again?" Peter banters making the heavy atmosphere shift to an actual lighter one.
"No, the safe man will, is mamma awake yet?" Avery changed topics. The Major was again surprised by the sureness in the girl's voice as if she just knew it.
"No," Peter answered
"But, the safe man is with her?" She rasped out.
"Yes," Peter confirmed, A breath of relief and everyone hears as the phone is passed to someone else.
"I think that's all Aves was worried about, we should probably save the heart to heart heavy stuff for when y'all are here." Jayson stated.
"There?" Peter asked amused his nephew was just assuming that they were picking them up.
"Oh so you're not coming to get us? We got a threat hanging over us, Uncle Pete, and Whitlocks don't leave Whitlocks unprotected, also your lucky Mom is apparently passed out, no doubt from shock, but she would totally tare your arm off, and I am surprised aunt Char hasn't smacked you upside the head yet, but she's probably in shock too." Jayson commented. Charlotte did indeed slap Peter upside the head.
The Major felt a strange sense of pride. This boy obviously knew what being a Whitlock meant, and with the new knowledge of some sort of threat hanging over who was obviously his mates kids, it made the Major want to take his mate, and run, find the kids, and hide all four of them away until the threat was felt with.
Three laughs, and exclamation's of, "Thanks Aunt Char!"
"We gotta go, Jane, Alec, Felix, and Demetri have finally found us, we've been hiding out in this park from them, and the four are currently shooting daggers at us, it's getting late, here, anyway , gotta head back, bye, Uncle Peter, love you!" Rosie says hanging up the phone.
Peter slowly lowered the phone, and looked at The Major. "Questions answered for the time being?" He quipped. The Major nodded sharply feeling Jasper take his place.
"Peter, while I tend to my mate, why don't you make plans. Decide who's coming with us, not all of the Cullens, because we can't afford to draw unnecessary attention. Make a plan, and I am going to take my mate home and try to rouse her. She's aware of everything that is happening but she's in a lot of shock." Jasper explained before scooping his mate up, and takes her home.
