AND WE'RE BACK, FOLKS! Seriously though, I almost lost motivation for this story when an hour after posting it on the site, some jackass who couldn't even be bothered to log in and use his account to review, instead using the guest feature, decided to walk in and shit all over my work that took me at least 3 hours to write, never mind the plot planning I do before I even sit down to write anything. Yeah, it hurt, I'm not going to lie about how I feel about it. But this morning, I woke up to see that someone had 'pm'ed me. I was curious, so I opened it up. Here was this absolute legend, shout out to maskaggarwal, who was telling me that the concept of my story was cool, and he wanted to read some more of it. So, I decided to give it another go! This is for you, maskaggarwal! I hope you enjoy!

" A 'symbol of Judgement and justice', Sensei? But I've never heard tell of him, even during the history of quicks presentations we went through in school. If he was so well known and loved, wouldn't he be a major footnote in the history of Quirks? Or is it that someone is trying to erase his mark on history…." continued Midoriya, rapidly devolving into a muttering session of paranoia and theories on why he was never taught about him. Right up until All Might whacked him on the back of his head, in fact!
"you were muttering again, young Midoriya." He assuaged, wanting the reason he hit him to be known. " and I couldn't snap you out of it with words, so force was required!" He continued, throwing in a cheesy grin and thumbs up, wanting to show he meant no harm by it. With a smile to his Heir, he turned back to facing the tomb of his idol.
"And no, there is no conspiracy to remove his name from the history of heroism, or any thing of the like. It is simply that younger children wouldn't understand the true meaning of what he accomplished, nor the true value of his final sacrifice, so the school system reserves his story until the start of high school for student's." Finished up Toshinori, wanting to assure the young hero beside him that there was nothing nefarious going on in the shadows of the educational system, in spite of him knowing something was up.
"Then could you explain, sensei? I'd like to know!" Midoriya requested, wanting to know about a hero that even All Might called a legend and a true hero.
"Of course, young Midoriya! It's why I brought you here in the first place!" Proclaimed All Might, smiling at the words of his young successor.
"Well, to start the story of his legend, you have to understand, this all started long before heroism became the sprawling industry that it is today. Heroes of any repute or political standing were few and far in-between, with few ever reaching the standing that they have in this day and age. It was a far darker age then the one we live in today. But from that darkness, from all that turmoil and strife, came the brightest light the world has ever borne witness to." Proclaimed the symbol of peace, weaving the tale of his idol to his heir.
"No-one, not even myself, knows where he came from. No-one knows his home country, no-one knows his family situation, nothing is known about his back story. He just suddenly appeared one day, fighting off a 100 strong army of villains who were attempting to kidnap the family of the United States president at the time. He showed up, defeated them in their entirety, and disappeared into a crashing beam of light. All that was left to prove his realism, was the camera footage of the fight, and the marking left in the ground from the beam of light." Toshinori spoke, only to be asked a question when he took a breath.
"Does anyone know what the beam of light was, sensei?" asked Midoriya, wanting to know what the obviously large element of Thor's legend was.
"It wasn't until years later that we learned what exactly it was, young Midoriya, but it was discovered that it was the quirk of his partner in heroism, a young man the same age as himself, who actually bore two quirks of incredible power. His hero name was Heimdall, his actual name was Neji Hyuuga." Said All Might, smiling at the memory of the other half of the legend.
"His quirks were 'all seeing eyes', and 'light transport'. With 'all seeing eyes', anything that the light of the sun touched was visible to him on the planet. And 'light transport' does as it says, it transports matter through beams of light to the users chosen location. Obviously, it has limitations, but thanks to the two quirks he bore working in conjunction with each other, they nullified a good portion of those weaknesses." He finished the explanation of the hero's support expert, before swiftly moving back to the actual tale of the legend.
"Regardless, the next time anyone saw him, it was 6 hours after his aid to the president's family had taken place, and he had shown up in Africa, deposing a villain who had taken over most of South Africa as a warlord. The man's entire army of over 100 000 soldiers, many of whom had powerful, well-trained quirks, were wiped off the face of the map in a single showing of power, when asked years later, why he had done so, it was because of the atrocities committed by the armies of said villain." While he told the story, Toshinori's fists had begun to clench tightly at his sides, remembering the horror he felt when he was told why Naruto had done such a thing.
"What had they done for him to kill over 100 000 people at once sensei?" questioned Izuku, wanting to know why this supposed paragon of heroism had decided killing them was the right choice. Even if he was afraid to know the actual answer.
"Entire villages and cities had their male population wiped out to the last, young Midoriya, not even the boy's were spared the wrath of his armies. But the act that followed was the part the assured their deaths in Naruto's heart. Near every man in his armies decided to enjoy themselves with the grieving widows, mothers, sisters, and daughters of the men they had just put to the sword. Entire cities left in ruins, with half of the women in them pregnant from the raping they had endured, the other half too beaten and hurt to carry the children to term and broken from the trauma caused from losing the children, combined with said violations. It was a horrible sight, even for the humanitarian relief sent by the United Nations to aid in the recovery of said town's and cities." Revealed All Might, hating that he was speaking of these events to his young successor, but knowing that he had to do it, that Midoriya had to understand the unspoken rule of heroism.
That sometimes a prison sentence wasn't the answer to a villain. Sometimes, when the crimes were to numerous, the soul too black, and the regrets for said acts were non-existent, the only option for a hero to choose was the call for execution of said villain. It didn't happen often anymore, thankfully, but even now there were multiple heroes in the top ten of all the countries worldwide that had made the call before, sometimes multiple times. Japan alone had 5 people in the top ten who had made the call before, 6 if he included himself, 3 who had made the call more then once.
As for Izuku, he just stopped moving. It wasn't that he was afraid of Thor now or anything like that, far from it in fact. But the thought of 100 000 men committing the crimes that they did to those women, after killing the men and boys in their lives. It filled him with an emotion he didn't know all that well. It was an emotion he didn't think he could feel so easily, not from a story anyway.
Hatred was working its way through him even now, trying to work it's way into his core for those men, and then spread further into his morals, and eventually corrupt him totally. The only thing helping him with the foreign emotion was that he knew they were dead, having received their punishment from the hero buried in front of him. A hero who made the hard call and took all those lives into his hand and snuffed out the fires of life in them. With that knowledge, Midoriya realized something, something that had been bothering him for a while now.
Stain was right.
Not when it came to murdering heroes, obviously not that, but that the society they lived in was filled with false heroes who weren't worthy of the title. The one's who were completely worthy were the man kneeling beside him, and the man entombed in front of him. They were heroes. The one's who threw their lives into the fires of chaos and villainy, and snuffed them out, often times at great personal risk to themselves.
Oh, he had no doubt that there were other heroes out there who were worthy of the title, Mirko was the first female hero that came to mind, and edgeshot, the first male hero after All Might. With what he knew of Endeavor, he couldn't, in good conscious, call the man a hero, and with how little he knew of hawks, he couldn't count him fairly. Edgeshot and Mirko, however, were very open about who they were and what they believed in. They stood by what they said and lived by their own codes, both in and out of their gear. It was somewhat heartening for the young future hero.
"I see. I don't think I can claim I would make the same choice, or even have the courage to do what he did, but I do see why he made the choice that he did, sensei." Summarized Midoriya, wanting his teacher that he looked up to so much, to understand the point of his thoughts.
"I know you do, young Midoriya, you're a smart young man. I had full faith that you would understand the point of my telling you this story." Said Toshi, smiling at his heir. "And I'm not asking you to do what he did, I don't think I could do what he did." He finished, despite knowing full well he could do that. Physically, he was strong and fast enough to deal with them all almost as quickly as his idol, back when he was in his prime. It was his mentality that would not let him do as Thor had. He would not be able to take all those lives. He would not be able to hand out the punishment and sentence administered upon them. He simply didn't have it in him to bear the weight all those lives being taken would put on his shoulders. He was the strongest hero alive, but he wasn't strong enough for that.
"Regardless, Thor continued to do as he had started. He would show-up in some of the darkest corners of the world, and administer judgement to the unforgivable, while also administering justice to the criminals worldwide that were redeemable. It was primarily because of him, that the hero profession as we know it came to be accepted the way it has. He quickly amassed many followers, supporters, and eventually, allies. His titles varied depending on where he went, but three of them were universal in their acknowledgement by the civilian population." Enthused All Might, his obvious admiration for the man shining through. After all, without him, the world would be a far different place then it was today.
"Title's sensei? Like your title of 'symbol of peace'?" questioned Midoriya, wanting to know more the more he heard about the man. For some weird reason, the tales were oddly interesting to him.
"Hmm, yes I suppose that would be a good comparison. He had more of them then the top thirty hero's of Japan do now. But he had only three that were unanimous the world over." He began, knowing how the explanation of the title's would go.
"His first title was that of the 'symbol of judgement and justice'. He earned that one for himself with his actions involving the presidents family, followed shortly thereafter by his actions in South Africa. Many called his actions perfectly within reaction for the crimes committed, others said he went too far. But all knew he was a fair judge when they found survivors in the aftermath of his attack who didn't pillage, but only fought so their families wouldn't be next." He revealed, before rapidly moving into the next one.
"His second title came to him shortly after his fifthteenth year of planetary protection, he was publicly proclaimed by the united nations to be 'the protector of all of mankind' for his tireless service in defending the globe from villainy. There was no country in the world that hadn't experienced the protection of the Thunderer by that point. And so, they proclaimed him a worldwide hero." He reminisced, remembering watching the announcement as a young child that the hero he looked up to so much was proclaimed as a worldwide hero.
"If those were the first two of his title's, then what was the last, sensei?" questioned Midoriya, after letting his teacher lounge about in his memories for a little while.
"Sadly, this title was given to him posthumously, after he sacrificed his life to kill a threat that no one else could even begin to fight. When the threat began to rapidly murder civilian lives right here in Kamino ward, he arrived and took the threat out to sea where we could only just make them out, where he could go all out without worrying about civilian casualties. It was his last battle, he died after the fight was finished on his part. For his part in saving the lives he could and avenging the lives lost, as he had always done, he was given the title of 'avenger' as his last title." Finished Toshinori, not liking to remember the battle that took the greatest hero on record from the world.
"'Avenger', huh? And he got it because of his avenging of the people that died to the threat that eventually killed him?" he questioned, wanting to commit the story he was being told to memory.
Shaking his head, Toshinori began to correct a minor wording slip his pupil had made. "The threat couldn't kill him Midoriya, it wasn't strong enough for that. What it was strong enough to do, was add on to the already massive pile of exhaustion that was present when he went into that fight."
"He had been busy with hero work for 2 weeks of constant work at that point, bare minimum sleep, little to any food or water, quirk exhaustion, and then he went into a fight against a creature who's very breath was an incredibly violent poison. If he had went into the fight at full strength, I have no doubt that he would have survived. But he didn't, and because of his incredibly strenuous 2 weeks, his body just gave out under the poison. That's what killed him, exhaustion, not the beast." He finished, wrapping up the conclusion that hero society had come to concerning his death.
"You've been calling it 'the threat' the whole time we've been talking, but just now you called it 'the beast'. What was it that actually killed him, sensei?" asked Midoriya, wanting to know exactly what killed the strongest hero on record.
Sighing, Toshinori slouched over where he knelt, hoping his apprentice wouldn't catch his slip. He should have known better then to think he wouldn't catch it, but he had hope that his slip would be missed. What a fool he was.
"The threat was a serpent, young Midoriya, a serpent of such titanic proportion, that no heroes of the day could even scratch it. No one knows where it came from, but the impact it had on arrival in Kamino bay made it a category 5 threat. It's mere presence brought about death to thousands due to the air it breathed being turned into poison of the highest order. Just being in it's presence was considered a death sentence. Add in that it could breath fire, seemed invulnerable to any attacks they could launch at it and seemed to only get bigger, stronger, and faster as time went on? It was viewed rather quickly as a worldwide threat." He began, continuing the tale of the twilight of the thunder god.
"Some of the physically strongest heroes of the day, including yoroi musha, couldn't budge the beast from its position in the bay. My own master, the previous wielder of one for all and a close personal friend of Thor, couldn't move the beast at all. They were helpless to stop the beast as it moved further into Kamino ward. But that all changed when Thor arrived." He revealed, his eyes sparkling at the memory he was no doubt witnessing in his mind.
"With a single throw of the hammer in front of you, he knocked the beast out of the city and back into the bay. And then he grappled with the beast, pulling it even further from Japan's shores and off toward the horizon, further out then most people, hero or otherwise, could even see. What they could see, however, were the lightning strikes that filled the air as Mjöllnir did her work in helping Thor to channel his immense power in a more controlled manner. By my master's own description of it from her memory, 'it was as if every bolt of lightning in the world had congregated into a single point, then struck down to the surface of the ocean with the wrath of a true god.'" He revealed, wanting his heir in heroism to understand the gap between regular heroes and Thor.
"By the end of the strike of lightning, which lasted for over 20 seconds, everyone could feel the results of the strike. The very air itself, over 100 kilometers away, felt supercharged, as if the energy from the strike had dispersed and spread itself out from the point of impact. My master was the first to snap out of the shock from seeing such an immense display of power, and using her quirk, flew out to find him in the hopes of helping him back. When she found him, he was floating on the surface of the ocean, just barely keeping his grip on his hammer to keep it from sinking into the oceans depths. When she pulled him back to shore, he stood up on his own two feet, called his axe Storm-Breaker to him, took nines steps towards the crowd, and then he collapsed. The poison was finally to much for him. My master, one of his closest friends, held him in her arms as he passed from this world to the next." He revealed, tears streaming down his face at the memory of his icon's death.
"… What was her name?" came the question. As Toshinori turned to look at his pupil, he repeated his question. "Your master sensei, what was her name?"
" My master's name was Nana Shimura; she was the seventh wielder of our quirk. Her own quirks name was 'float', which did as it implies. However, when she combined 'float' with 'one for all', it was no different for her then flight at high speeds. It was quite a sight to witness." He reminisced, remembering watching his master fly around above the cities she'd patrol, she was always so free looking up there, but never let her mind slip from the task of watching for villainy.
"So, you said the weapons have names, right? Anything else special about them?" he questioned, wanting to know even more about Thor and his legend.
With a smile, Toshinori decided to mess with his apprentice a little bit. "You mean aside from the fact that they are alive? No, not much else."
"…. Sorry, ALIVE? HOW DOES THAT WORK?" questioned Midoriya , his shock over what was said prominently displayed on his face. Hell, the pencil in his hand had frozen, something which hadn't occurred since All Might started telling him this tale. The notebook had even fallen out of his hand!
"HAHAHA, you should see your face you zygote! Not alive in the way you no doubt think, but they are capable of making choices. After all, they are responsible for choosing who is worthy of wielding them!" he revealed, wanting his pupil to know the truth of he thunders gods weapons.
"… SORRY, WHAT?" screamed Midoriya, still not quite getting how that worked.
Shacking his head with a smile, he decided to explain further, hopefully without frying his apprentices brain any further. "No one is quite sure how, but he somehow imparted a limited form of consciousness into the weapons while he made them. In his own words, 'I channeled my very quirk into forging those weapons, and as such, gave them their own quirks in the process.' They are capable making a choice to determine who's worthy and who isn't, in relation to wielding them. How that is determined isn't known to anyone, except maybe Naruto himself. What we do know, is that anyone who isn't worthy cannot lift the hammer or the axe. They would have a better opportunity to prevent the rise of the sun on the next day then they would lift the weapons."
"…"
"…"
"…"
"…"
"Okay that's cool. I'll admit it." Finally came the reply of Midoriya, his brain finally processing what he was just told. It was weird, but no weirder then the rest of the world that he lived in.
"Regardless, you have the training camp in the next few days. I suggest that you head home and get plenty of rest. Your going to need it, you zygote." Said toshinori, waving his apprentice off for the evening, knowing it was time for him to head home. As his apprentice left so too did All Might, after giving his respects to his hero once more.
It wasn't until ten minutes after he left that another man turned up at the memorial, kneeling on the cushion and bowing to it. Unlike all might, however, this man pressed his head to the floor and kept it there as he began to pray. He was a rather tall and robust man, standing easily over 6' tall, with deep red hair and a clean shave on his face. On his back, underneath the shirt he had on, you could just barely begin to make out a large symbol, though it was impossible to figure out what it was as it was so covered.
This man was Enji Todoroki, the number two pro hero in Japan, known by his hero name of Endeavor. As for what he was doing bowing at the shrine of the thunder god? Why that was simple, he was begging for forgiveness and guidance from the hero who gave him a start in his own agency while Enji was in U.A. Beyond even that, Naruto took him under his wing as one of his sons, a man who tried to teach him what it meant to be a man and a father. As an orphan, Enji didn't have that before Naruto, having had no one to support him. After Naruto proclaimed him as one of his sons, he suddenly had a family full of brothers, a rare sister and a father watching over ' his brats' as he put it. For Naruto to do that for him had meant the world to him and he swore to always honor his teachings. And what had he done with those teachings?
His wife, Rei, someone he should have loved, cherished and protected with all of his heart, hated him in all manner of life, and had a psychological break down from the stress of what he did to her, which led to her harming their youngest son in her instability.
His first-born son, his pride and joy, Toya, burned himself to ash in an effort to master his quirk in order to make him proud and be a hero who could surpass him, after he told him it wouldn't happen and to stop trying.
His only daughter, Fuyumi, bless her heart, was caught trying to keep their family together after all that he had done to drive them apart, while also handling her own life as a teacher and being his daughter. She truly had her mothers heart and patience, before he broke them that was.
His middle son, Natsuo, hated him with virility, not that he could blame him. He pushed him so hard, only to discard and ignore him for years after Shoto had been born, and then refused to let him see his younger brother.
His youngest child, Shoto, where to start with where he failed him. Abusive training, broken relationship, sending away the mother he loved so much after he broke her, separated him from his siblings. The list went on and on, each as bad if not worse then the last.
It was no wonder his children hated their father.
He had failed his own father in the process by abandoning his teachings, and for what?
The position as number one hero of Japan.
Something so inconsequential in the long run that it didn't even matter, yet to him it felt like he had to have it. And it had cost him everything.
"Forgive me, Father…" he croaked out, refusing to lift his head from the marble, even as his back was soaked from a sudden downpour of rain. As thunder and lightning flashed over head, he finally began to cry.
"Please forgive and help me…"
AND SCENE! Yep, that's it! Naruto is one of the heroes from the same age of quirks as Nana and Gran Torino, who began to push back the darkness just as heroes started coming to prominence. It's in no small part from his efforts that heroism is as looked upon as a noble profession. After all, his heroism isn't restricted to one country, he was a worldwide hero! That's quite a change from heroes who are only licensed in one country!
Yep, Naruto was… Close with Nana Shimura. What does this mean for the story and the lore? You'll have to wait and see won't you!
And yes, there is a song reference in this chapter, lets see if you can figure it out! And yes, that was Jörmungandr, or was it?! Who knows! Wait a minute, I do! You'll have to wait to find out!
What's this?! Endeavor is regretting things before he becomes number 1! Le gasp! What does this mean! You'll just have to read and find out!
FAIR WARNING! After this there will be a time skip in this story, as I've finally given you all a time frame of when this is happening. It's a few days before the forest training camp arc, which means I've got a bit of time to play with things. And the final battle between All Might and All For One will be different! Ohhhh, how am I changing it I wonder!? You'll know soon enough!
So, if you liked the story, leave a comment! It always helps me to read some positive reviews and constructive criticisms are always helpful. Any flamers will be used to cook well-done steaks for the hunters of Bherna village, the Soaratorium, Astera, Seliana, Kamura village and eventually Elgado outpost. Keep your stamina up folks!
I'll see you all again soon! I don't know what's next, I've got some ideas in the pipeline, but I also want to get some more work done on my current three stories. We'll all just have to wait and see what comes next! See ya!
