So yeah...Showing my ignorance in how you respond to being skunked, when our Dog got skunked I got some strawberry scented hand sdoap from the bathroom and scrubbed her with it in the backyard in the middle of the night before rinsing and it seemed to work she smelled like strawberries the next day, we did have to get her a new bed because she rubbed her skunked self all over her bed.
Enna after much twisting and turning, finally awoke from her nightmare, sitting up and giving what sounded like half a human scream half a squeaky otter screech!
Jonathan who was well trained to awake at the sloghtest hint of danger, eyes snapped open and he rushed downstairs, screaming was normal in Arkham but not in his sanctuary!
Enna realized she had woken her Mentor up when she heard him coming downstairs and saw him in his wooly pajamas.
"What is it?" He asked his eyes like a deer in headlights, "What's going on?"
Enna was already feeling ashamed "Nothing...I just had a nightmare."
A swirl of conflicting emotions, first agitation that her scream could have alerted what few neighbors were here in this rural outskirt of Gotham revealing the location of his secret sanctuary, then his old Scarecrow hunger for fear, even though he knew it would be dangerous to satiate his hunger for fear with this incredibly dangerous Mutant, his curiosity to find out what plagued her nightmares was as great a temptation for him, as just leaving a supreme pizza on the table in front of Mikey...
However, he knew he couldn't use his apprentice as prey unless he wanted her to eventually turn on him as Riddler suggested, so his suppressed the Scarecrow's appitite for the moment and instead tried to be sypathetic, be the Psychologist he once was instead of the Scarecrow.
"What was the dream?" He asked quietly although he felt he already knew what it was going to be about...
"I'm...I'm dreaming about my escape from the lab..." Enna said as she rubbed her forehead "...Only I can't find the exit, everywhere I turn it's another dead end...And I see the scientists coming...I just see their hands reaching for me I don't even see the rest of them...And I wake up..."
And Jonathan was again really feeling sympathy perk up again...He remembered his own childhood, how he had been mercilessly bullied at school, he could easily imagine perchiving them as disembodied hands just reaching for him...He looked at Enna again, despite her trying to put on a brave face she was shaking...Jonathan gulped.
"Well..." He looked towards the kitchen window dawn was just beginning to break. "There's no pint in going back to sleep now...I suppose I should do something to help soothe the both of us..."
He went to a certain room...This room is where he stored certain books, books he had read from his childhood...He hardly ever even so much as glanced at them now, he preferred to mostly read the horror stories for pleasure, and yet something had compelled him to keep these books in his collection, he was looking for something that might soothe Enna, and then he saw it, almost shining like a beacon.
The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling...Jonathan picked it up, looked at it, it was in fairly good condition not giving any sign of needing repairs like some of his other books, he supposed it wouldn't harm it to let Enna have this book for her reading pleasure.
"Enna..." Jonathan said as he came back into the living room "...How about I read to you? Have you ever heard of The Jungle Book?"
"That's like one of those Disney movies right?" Enna asked
Jonathan sighed "Yes, Disney adapted it...I just realized, I've been presuming you read as well as a human your age."
"Yeah we were all taught how to read." Enna said "Some of us who really liked to read had a few books in their rooms given to them by the scientists...I wasn't one of them."
Jonathan nodded remembering previous things Enna had said "Yes, you seemed to be more interested in television...Well perhaps I can begin to show you the much richer world of literature, from what I understand of Disney's adaptation it might has well have been in name only."
He sat down on the sofa beside her "I'll read the first few chapters to you, but I decided you can keep this book to read at your leisure...I'm realizing that I child needs more than just food and shelter, you do need entetainment to stimulate your mind, so I've come to the conclusion I don't mind letting you have this one."
"Oh really?" Enna's face brightened "You mean it? I promise I'll be careful and not tear the pages or spill stuff on it."
'If only all human children could be as well behaved as you...' Jonathan thought to himself as he opened the book
As he did Enna scooched over so she was snuggling into his side, Jonathan wasstill not accustumed to being touched looked at her.
"I just want to be able to look at the words as you're reading them..." Enna said "...This is kind of like a good morning story instead of a bedtime story."
Jonathan couldn't help but chuckle at that interesting observation "It does quite seem that way..." He chuckled "...This is mostly something to pass the time until we feel hungry enough for breakfast."
And with that he began to read the story he had chosen because it was about the camaraderie between animals and humans as equals, which he hoped would help her feel better about being treated only as a laboratory test subject by humans prior.
Meanwhile, Donny realized he forgot that you should apply baking soda after being skunked, appling water immediately will just cause the skunk smell to set in.
"Sorry Raph..." Don chuckled embaressed "I guess I was just so distracted that fact just slipped my mind."
And Raph was having one of those rare moments where he wanted to thrash Donny instead of Mikey.
"Of course if we're going to go to Gotham..." Don said "...The place with the most dangerous lunatics in America, we got to be prepared, foretunatly I hacked into Arkham's files...Reletivly easy as they didn't have Baxter Stockman programming...
"My Sons," Splinter said "I know you have faced the Tengu Shredder, and at the moment feel as if there is nothing you can't accomplish but I have meditated on this and I have a warning for you...This mission may be your greatest test yet, as it will not test your fighting skills, your bodies, rather it will test your hearts..."
So wanted to once again emphasize the Turtles are going to be a big part of the story even if it takes them a while to meet up with Jonathan and Enna
