So this chapter is setting up the turning point in our story, all brought on by the fact that Otters may be small animals but they need a lot of food because of their metabolisms
The next day it was another 'Breakfast-For-Lunch' situation as they had run out of the few cans of tuna Jonathan had bought on such short notice, they still had half a loaf of bread, and half a jug of milk, so Jonathan watched forlornly as Enna buttered her two slices of toast for lunch, he noticed she had been growing a little weaker mostly having one big meal a day and mostly having snacks for the rest of her meals, so Jonathan had to get on his computer to do a little reserch about river otters, turns out while otters may be small animals they have enormous appitites! As is typical as members of the Musteliad family but also as aquatic animals they have to eat that much to maintain their tempature when they are in cold water, and just because Enna wasn't swimming didn't mean her natural metolbism slowed down.
Jonathan sighed "I'm going to have to go grocery shopping again..." At the kitchen table he was wearing his green sweater and gray pants, he had broken so many of his own rules, like not wearing his Scarecrow costume in his special sanctuary but his discovery of the psychic mutant otter was unprecidented so in order to best capitalize on his amazing find he had broken so many of his rules he thought he would never break...But it was something more...He was beginning to feel the twinges in his own heart, he feared for Enna's safety.
"One of the benefits of not being as reconizable as the Joker or Two-Face..." He was sort of speaking more to himself than to Enna again as she devoured her two slices of toast "..But there is still a risk, a risk that I might be reconized and sent back to Arkham...It's not that hard to get out...But I may still end up being there for a while, and you would be all alone...With no one to protect you."
After hearing Jonathan's story last night, Enna felt her fears assuaged and felt more certain that The Professor was indeed a caring man, it was just most of human society was corrupt and thus Scarecrow had to resort to 'vigilante justice'
"But other than that..." Jonathan now was for sure talking to Enna "...Can I trust you to stay in the house by yourself?" He said quietly, seriously "...You won't open the door for anyone, even if it is friends you've met before like Mad Hatter and Riddler?"
Enna nodded "Yes Professor you can count on me!"
Jonathan smiled but there was still worry, or was it sorrow, in his eyes "There's a Good Girl." He said He rose from his chair and picked up a hoodie to further conceal his identiity while out shopping "I'll be back in an hour..." He said
Neither of them had any way of knowing, that Leo using special meditation tricks he had learned from the Ancient One, to send his mind's eye traveling to spy on them for just this information...
"I got it!" Leo exclaimed as his eyes snapped open startling his brothers and Casey who had just arrived in Gotham an hour or two ago.
Leo leapt to his feet "I got some info while meditating..." He "...Scarecrow his low on food in his hideout, he's going grocery shopping said he'd be back in an hour."
"OK..." Don said "...Where is his hideout?"
Leo showed them the area on a map, on the rural outskirts of Gotham and on the opposite side of Gotham from where they were.
"That's too far Leo," Don said "We'll never make it there in an hour."
"We don't have to get to the hideout while he's shopping..." Leo said "...What I realized is...Enna...Needs food...Apparently Otters have really big appetites."
"Just like Mikey." Raph said
"Casey..." Leo said "...We need you to make a run to the nearest grocery store...Actually not necessarily the nearest one, if it's not that great, we need you to go to a good grocery store...I have a plan as a way to get our foot in the door..."
Don nodded but he also was thinking about what he learned about Scarecrow from hacking into Arkham's files...What he had found was not pretty, looking at Jonathan Crane's tragic history growing up poor in a rural area and seems multiple things about his family were later discovered to have been creepy lies he made to his psychologist but still looking through the man's list of co-morbidities really made Don see there was a man behind the madness and he thought about how they really didn't know anything about the Utrom Shredder or Ch'rell other than his crimes...He knew Utroms were long lived, but...He must have had a childhood right? Come to think of it...Don realized he still knew so little about Utrom Biology he couldn't recall if he had ever seen an Utrom child...A cold chill went down his shell as a passing thought told him, that the Utroms hadn't told them everything and seemed they had hidden something very important...
So...Just some thoughts about the 2003 series comapred to the original Mirage comics I feel the 2003 show really messed up the Utroms by making them so long lived so they could be there in Fuedal Japan, on the whole I think the series overused the 'long lived' thing for a lot of characters, in the comics the Utroms had only been crashed on Earth for a few decades and one of the Utroms mentions really wanting to see their children again...This difference will lead me to making a headcannon about the 2003 Utroms that would explain why the Utrom Shredder was the way he was
