So just a little note, when I first looked up what the name 'Enna' means first I thought it was Irish for 'Waterfall' but then I checked that source again that wasn't the Irish meaning it as the Cherokee meaning in Old High German it can mean many things, either 'bird-like' or 'female eagle' or 'sword' or what came up first 'Fright' yeah weirdly freaky how fitting that is, I just picked Enna at random as a very simple sounding name but it fits right in with the themes of the story
Batman picked up the bit of fur, certainly didn't seem like human hair, he gave it a sniff, he could smell the musteliad muskiness this definitetly wasn't from a human...Batman remembered his adventure rescuing Catwoman from Emile Dorian and his Tiger-Man Tigris so he knew intelligent Mutant Animals were possible.
"All right Scarecrow..." Batman said "...I believe you...Now..." He turned around and saw Scarecrow as well as the four Turtles and the friend in the hockey mask were gone.
Robin chuckled "Looks like you've finally found Guys who could give you a run for your money."
Batman scowled
Scarecrow and first felt a green, three fingered hand clamp over his mouth, then the Turtle with the purple mask draped the scrawny man over his shoulders, Crane realized instantly they were trying to help him, so he kept quiet as they went into the trees and leapt from branch to branch as if they were giant squirrels rather than Turtles.
Once they were at what they felt was a safe distance, they came down.
'Man!' Don thought to himself and he removed Scarecrow from his shoulders 'April is heavier than you!' and that wasn't an insult to April he knew she was at a perfectly normal weight for a woman her size, this man seemed little more than a skeleton with skin on made basically brought up concerns of is this man getting the proper amount of nutrition.
"All right." Scarecrow said as he dusted himself off "You've chosen to help me, Why?"
"Because despite our doubts." Leo said "We see now you and Enna truly care for each other, that you've become like a Father to her...And our..Father would sometimes say 'All Fathers care for their...Children..." He knew the actual quote said 'Sons' but obviously Enna was a girl.
Jonathan scoffed "If only!" He folded his arms "My Father didn't care for me, and neither did my Mother! I was a burden to them from the very beginning! More than once I was told I should never have been born..."
The Turtles winced hearing this, Don of course had read his family history on the Arkham files he had hacked into.
"OK..." Leo said as he took in a deep breath "...Some parents just aren't good and that's a fact, but most of the time parents care for their children and sometimes their just misguided in how to do it..." Leo froze for a moment and then said "I guess it really is more complicated then that...I...Once knew someone who had been adopted by our Greatest Enemy, I kept trying to get her to renounce her Father but she would not because he was her Father...Deep down I felt our Sensei's saying didn't apply to him because he wasn't 'truly' her Father because he didn't love her."
"Yes..." Jonathan said "...Enna told me about this story you recounted to her...Wasn't this enemy of your's called The Shredder?"
"I guess the truth is...More complicated..." Leo sighed "...That people are more complicated..."
"What we want to know..." Don said "...Is what made you change your mind?"
Jonathan sighed "...I suppose there is a certain danger in pretending to care is that in the act of pretending you cause yourself to actually care, to say something has an effect on your mind and when that is also followed by action..." He shook his head sorrowfully "...That mind trap she put on me, reminded me of what it was like to be a child, to be small and helpless and yet despite being through things far worse than what I had suffered as a child, she did not turn bitter at the world, she maintains her optimism that there is some good in the world and I I realized was a scathing indictment of my own choice to nihilism that the proper response isn't to crawl under a rock with all the slimy things and that my choice only shows my own weakness."
The Turtles found themselves shocked by this admission, never before had they seen a supervillain take this level of humility.
"We had done some digging..." Don said "...Trying to find out where Enna had come from, and we found Dim Thoughts and this guy..." He held up a picture of a man who looked like an old Hippie from the 60s 'Borden Willis' formerly the chief scientist of Dim Thoughts before he was removed for 'Undiclosed Reasons' we have reason to think he might be in Gotham and he might be our lead...
"I see..." Jonathan said "...If you could, I wish to bring along some collegues that may be able to help, the Mad Hatter and the Riddler..."
"This is the weirdest team up in history..." Mikey said
So originally I was going to have the bit where they recruit Mad Hatter and Riddler but decided to leave that for the next chapter
