So it seems I've done a good job in the last chapter of making Borden Willis seem utterly disgusting now in this chapter is to firmly establish he has seen the error of his ways and is trying to begin to make amends to the mutant children for what he did to them, he just wasn't very good at communicating that in the last chapter still having an air of smugness because of his belief in his intellectual superiority over everyone else in the room (Not the best idea when you have three supervillains in the room who pride themselves in being geniuses) and in this story I do draw the comparison between the Arkham Rogues who are the kind of villains C.S. Lewis would call the 'Robber Barons' whose "cruelty may sometimes sleep his cupidity may at some point be satiated" or sometimes they just want to take a break from doing evil deeds and just read a book or play a video game (I think Utrom Shredder is an example of a 'Robber Baron' villain who is an exception who doesn't get satiated but that is probably because he's both not human being an alien and because he has been under the influence of the Tengu Shredder a literal demon) Where Borden Willis with his Utopian dreams is an example of the "omnipotent moral busybodies" "those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

The bunker suddenly felt a lot hotter, The Turtles and Casey looked at the two redheaded rogues, Scarecrow and Riddler as the heat seemed to be coming from them...Riddler in particular seemed to have a twisted expression on his face that they had never seen on him before! And they noiced his domino masked seemed to be a bit wet...Had he been...Crying? Only Mad Hatter seemed relativly calm, and Don remembered from reading Tetch's files that he semed to be one Rogue with at least a 'partially' healthy family life mental illness did seem to run in his family but he did seem to have a modicum of a happy childhood being particurally close to his mother and his sister, Jervis folded his arms as Jonathan and Edward stomped over to Borden, Jervis gave the Turtles and their hockey mask wearing friend a side eye, that seemed to be a smirk without using the mouth that seemed to say 'Let's see how this plays out, shall we boys?' A signal to the heroes to step in only if things became too dangerous, but after what they had just heard, the Old Hippie deserved...Something...For what he did to those mutant children.

Jonathan grabbed Borden by his shirt collar, while Scarecrow was a skinny beanpole, Borden Willis really wasn't that much different in that regard (It seemed he drank alcohol more than he ate real food) he just his his skinniness by wearing baggier clothes so the two mad scientists were actually quite equal in that regard, so when Borden began to attempt to throw Jonathan off, Edward, who while certainly not a 'beefcake' of a man certainly had more meat on his bones than Jonathan, came around behind Borden and held him in place, it was so strange seeing the Riddler acting as the 'muscle' of all things but stranger to see him rendered completely silent no smugness, no wryness the expression on his face hinted that something had left him emotionally raw, that his protective layers of pride had been peeled away and what was now standing there was the raw and tender child within but now operating the stronger adult body.

"You listen and you listen good!" Jonathan hissed putting his masked face in Borden's "People like you disgust me! Of all the things I am, at least I'm not a hypocrite! At least I was always honest about my selfishness and that my evil deeds were for helping no one but myself! One thing I would never do was have a child, not even for the purpose of making an apprentice to continue my legacy! I did think there was not really any point of bringing a child into this world but more than that the idea of bringing a new life into this world just to torment it was the one wicked deed I couldn't bring myself to do! Deep down I felt that was what my life was...I had been brought into this world by parents who didn't love me just to torment me! People like you may condemn us rogues for our wicked acts but if nothing else we are individualists! In fact most of us became Rogues because we felt we hadn't been given our proper dues as individuals instead treated like interchangable cogs in a machine! I know what you Hippies are all about! Almost all your kind suckle at the teat of Marx! Who was influenced by Hegel, and what does Hegel say about the human race in regards to history? That history uses great men and then discards them! And that's what you did to those Mutant children! They are not actually people to you, beings with their own wants and needs and hopes and dreams you created them to be a means to an end! Just foot soldiers for your imaginary Utopia! Which would never actually come to be...A world where all creatures play Ring-Around-the-Rosie under the rainbow because the carnivores still have to eat! And even if you could change their digestive systems so they could all be vegetarian, destroying the food chain would reek havoc on the ecosystem! You don't have to hang around Poison Ivy to know that I just remembered what I learned in biology class but you're so arrogant you think you can rewrite the laws of nature! Even we don't go so far as to that level of hubris!"

Well Borden decided he had had enough of this tongue lashing from a criminal "All right! All right! You made your point!" He said "Now unhand me! I have my finger on a button that when pushed will summon my nephew and he will beat up whoever he sees as a danger to me! The whole reason I sent him to retrieve the Turtles is because I have seen the error of my ways and I want to save those poor children before they are dissected or made into slaves of one kind of another!"

"To be fair..." Raph said "...You didn't exactly seem the most sorry, and it is pretty wild that a freakin' supervillain showed more love to one of those kids than you ever did!"

Borden sighed as Scarecrow and Riddler released him "I...Struggle with human connections..." He said ruefully "I buried myself in experiments and drugs because it seems when you try to get close to people, all they can do is dissapoint...I was dedicated to the vision of Paradise in my head not to any individual..."

"If you expect perfection..." Leo said folding his arms "...Then of course you're going to get disapointed everytime...Part of growing up is accepting the world isn't perfect and to truly love someone is to accept they have imperfections just like you do."

"I see that now..." Borden said his voice now devoid of all previous smugness "...I see now that all my problems stem from the fact I've been clinging to my adolescence...That part of me never left Woodstock...But now I've seen what damage my actions have done! That the Animal Children I created are being hurt! So that's why I need your help!"

"Were you aware one of your animal children escaped?" Scarecrow asked now much calmer

"Yes." Borden said "I've been wire tapping the lab ever since I've been ousted and...I realized that Enna always seemed to have the most potential ever since she was a little baby I could see that Otter was smart as a whip and seemed to have a...Brightness shining in her...If only I could have done more for her..."

As Bodren led the group of heroes and rogues out of the bunker, Jonathan noticed Riddler was rubbing his face, seemed to be rubbing away more tears...

"You seemed to have become a completely different person Nygma..." Jonathan said quietly "...Not like you to act as mere 'muscle' or to be completely silent."

Edward now realized how out of character he had been acting, and still feeling like a raw and tender child was now at a complete loss for words "I...I..." He stammered his voice having a child like quality

Jonathan on his part seemed to go back to being an actual psychologist rather than the Master of Fear "Let's talk about it as we go..." He said

I originally was going to have Riddler talking about what made him do what he did but decided to save that for the next chapter
