Beginnings: Neji x Kagome

Grasping at the front of his white kimono-shirt with one hand, the Higurashi girl felt her face turn into a flaming mess with the gentle caress of his mouth slanted across her own. She gasped when he nibbled lightly on her bottom lip, her lashes fluttering, and could not stop the shuddering noise that escaped her when she felt his tongue sweep inside to take a taste of her. His hand cupped her cheek then, tilting her face up more for easier access, and she was almost certain that everything would have completely disappeared if it were not for the wolf whistle that made her yank away from him before he could completely devour her.

Neji's light lavender colored eyes fluttered open almost immediately, his lip creasing in confusion.

Her breathing much heavier than it had been before, Kagome quickly looked away from the Hyuuga to stare at her hand that was still holding onto him tightly. "I-I…" She shook her head a little, trying to understand what in the world had just happened, as she said, "Neji, why… why did you…?"

His head tilted to one side as he looked at her for a moment, before he shifted his attention to the quickly dispersing crowd that had gathered to watch the miniscule tongue waltz that had occurred between them. Not entirely sure why she had pulled away, Neji started to reply, "I thought that…" but his sentence trailed off when she turned startled, confused eyes up toward him.

Biting her lip when the silence started to stretch between them, Kagome tried to prompt him to continue by asking, "What?"

"I shouldn't have assumed," the Hyuuga quickly supplied. His posture had stiffened a little in his disappointment, but he pulled away from her grasp in an effort to lessen the embarrassment she no doubt felt. He looked away from her entirely then, hoping to avoid the awkwardness that he knew would be there every time she so much as looked at him now. "I apologize."

As she watched him turn on his heel and begin to walk away, the Higurashi girl felt her mouth fall open in her confusion. He thought that… that she did not…? Why would he…? But he kissed her… in front of everyone! He kissed her, so why was he leaving?!

That… that idiot!

The small spark of anger spurred her forward, as she yelled, "W-wait!"

Neji turned back when she grabbed onto the edge of his sleeve, glaring up at him, and he swallowed with the realization that she planned to lay into him now that her initial shock had worn off. He supposed he deserved it a little, but he might have walked a bit faster if he had known she was going to yell at him in the middle of the crowded street where he had just ruined their friendship.

"What do you mean you shouldn't have assumed, huh?" Kagome puffed out her cheeks in her tirade, though she ducked her head a bit to avoid the stares that were being directed at them. She could feel her cheeks starting to burn again. "It's not that I didn't like it, you… you...!"

The Hyuuga immediately straightened, turning toward her completely once the words registered in his head. Grabbing onto her unoccupied hand, his eyes scorching through her, he questioned, "Kagome, you...?"

Her eyes were wild when she looked back up at him, as she whispered, "Do you know where we are? Somebody whistled!"

Slowly, Neji began to smirk down at her. Was that what it was?

"What would your uncle say?" she gasped. "Are you even allowed to kiss somebody in the street?"

He could not stop the chuckle that burst forth, asking, "My uncle?"

"He's going to kill me for… for ruining the Hyuuga image or something!" Kagome let go of his sleeve to poke him in the chest, growling, "And it's all your fault, Neji!"

"Kagome?" Neji loomed over her as she looked up at him in question, his eyes hooded, and he leaned back into her until they were almost touching again. The feel of her breath was hot against his mouth when she gasped, unable to look away, as he whispered, "May I kiss you again?"

The Higurashi girl did not even bother to nod, as she closed the distance and kissed him this time around.
