Alarm: Shikamaru

Groaning quietly from the back of her throat, Kagome felt her brow begin to twitch, while the repetitive and shrill whine of the nearby alarm clock threatened to drive her insane. Wanting nothing more than to return to the beauty sleep she felt she rightfully deserved, she rolled onto her other side and pulled her pillow up over her head in an effort to block out the sound. It penetrated the cushiony barrier with ease, however, causing her to halfheartedly mumble, "Shika'ru… if you don't turn that off…"

The complete lack of response to her obvious threat only served to irritate her further.

"Shika… please."

Nothing.

The dark haired young woman released a faint growl. Already contemplating throwing the howling device across the room in the hopes of finally breaking the blasted thing once and for all, she shifted until her hip pressed up against his. Silently praying that the nudge had shaken him from his own head, she muttered, "The alarm…" in the hopes that that would be enough to motivate him.

She could never be quite that lucky, though, especially when it came to one Nara Shikamaru.

Grumbling to herself after a moment, she finally huffed, "I'm going to start counting soon, and if you don't turn that stupid thing off…"

Only the continuous beep of the alarm clock replied.

"I mean it."

Still nothing.

"Shikamaru."

Another nudge yielded no response.

"Okay, that's it…" Her eyebrow beginning to twitch uncontrollably, Kagome shifted just enough to get a good grip on the edge of the pillow covering her face. "One." The number came as little more than a hissed warning, knowing from experience that that was usually enough to shake Shikamaru from whatever thought process was keeping him from getting up. She waited then, nearly holding her breath, but the alarm continued to blare until she finally bit out, "Two…"

"Mm."

Feeling Shikamaru's side of the bed dip slightly nearly made her sigh in relief…

…until she realized that the shrill, repetitive whine was still blaring from the nightstand a minute later.

"Shikamaru?" Kagome's brow furrowed. Tugging the pillow down as she turned onto her back, she frowned heavily at the sight of him sitting up in bed beside her and staring aimlessly at the wall. Her darkened eyes slid beyond him to stare at the alarm then, feeling her lip begin to twitch upward with every beep that followed. The vicious hint of a smile was ominous and dark, as she breathed, "Aren't you forgetting something?"

The Nara only blinked, his dark eyes unfocused and far away.

No doubt wondering if it was even worth the effort to get up.

Sucking in a breath between her teeth, the dark haired young woman allowed her eyes to drift toward the ceiling overhead. Her fingers tightened within the fabric of her pillowcase. Then, slowly, her lips began to move. The howling alarm clock almost became a background noise in her seemingly meditative state, and it might have been had she not reached, "Three!"

The pillow smacked Shikamaru in the side of the head so hard he tumbled off his side of the bed. Kagome sat triumphantly above him, part of her pleased with the grunt she got in response, before she slammed her hand down onto the alarm clock so hard that it tipped over and ended up on the floor alongside him. Barely blinking at the sight of him slowly turning his head in her direction, she huffed, "I warned you," and quickly pulled the covers back up when she turned over to go back to bed.

A happy sigh escaped her then.

Peace and quiet, at last.

"Troublesome woman," Shikamaru grumbled from the floor.

"Lazy man," she shot back. "Get up next time."

Quietly, Shikamaru sighed, "...yeah," in agreement.

Note: I hope everyone had a good holiday season! My little family unfortunately got covid, but we're doing okay, no worries. I've got ...so many things that are almost done, so hopefully there will be more to come soon! -Kiba
