Chapter 84
Problems Of Succession
Disclaimer: Huge apology for the long and unintended break I took from this story. This chapter features my own take on the fictional country of Rumekistan from Marvel and this also takes place before the next time jump that I have in mind.
Barjnov, Rumekistan
Today, the capital city of Barjnov in the country of Rumekistan was playing host to the one and only En Sabah Nur. Who'd been personally invited to the country by its ruler. One that actually had been ruling it for thousands of years since since its creation when he'd been but a young man gifted with Immortality thanks to the longevity of the Okkaran people. A people Nur himself had once ruled all that time ago until a terrible threat had seen the end of Okkara. "I thank you for accepting my invitation, Pharaoh Nur. For you are my only hope of keeping Rumekistan from descending into chaos." Declared the ruler.
Who is a beige/violet skinned being with thinning hair by the name of Arkhen and has a set of razor sharp teeth in his chest. Arkhen could no longer stand at his full height thanks to his advanced age as it took great difficulty and pain to stretch out his knees in such a manner. Ultimately forcing him into a chair in order to get around. Nur stared at the other Mutant and wondered what his fellow ruler meant by his words. When Nur had been reached out too by Arkhen several days before, he'd been pleasantly surprised to learn that he'd been a rare survivor from Okkara, surprised but damned happy as it meant that if he'd lived to this day, others must have as well. And it was only a matter of finding them. "What do you mean?"
"Though we Okkaran are Immortal, it is only to a certain extent it seems… As I am dying." Bluntly stated Arkhen.
Nur didn't necessarily looked surprised by this revelation given how old his fellow ruler looked but he was unhappy as it meant a part of History would be lost. "And though I have children, none are interested in taking my place to rule over Rumekistan and its people." Continued Arkhen unhappily.
He still didn't know where he went wrong with any of them as any one of them should have the desire to rule absolute but alas… Did not. "Were it not for that, I would be able to feel more at peace that Death is coming for me."
To this day, no one outside the country knew that Rumekistan is a Mutant nation country ruled by a long lived Mutant. And frankly, Arkhen wanted it to keep it that way, regardless of whether or not how peaceful things were at this point as that could easily change. Especially with the knowledge of Rumekistan were it to get out into the world and that's the last thing Arkhen or the people wanted. "I could offer a means to restore your vitality so that you can live longer until a suitable replacement is found. Or install someone from Krakoa's Council to rule if the first option is not to your liking."
And it would perhaps fit with the credo he'd lived by for centuries, that only the strong survived. A weary sigh escaped Arkhen before he spoke. "I do not believe I would survive whatever process you've in mind at my age. Not when I've suffered attacks to my heart more times than I care to admit… And while I am surprised you are not ruling Krakoa absolutely considering I learned from yours and Lady Genesis' example, I suppose sending one of yours to rule in my place would be… Acceptable." For none here were capable of ruling in his view and he'd have to see for himself on who could rule from Krakoa.
Nur looked at him for a moment before speaking. "Even I realize that sometimes, some things must change. What became while I was gone is what now works for Krakoa and to change that, would cause problems. Problems myself or those there do not want at this point."
Not to say he woldn't take absolute power for himself there if the situation required it of course. "Bah, Democracy." Snorted Arkhen dismissively.
Effectively showing exactly what he thought and Nur realized this whole affair may be something of a headache. "I will make my return to Krakoa and sound out the Council on this matter, my friend. You may join if you wish or we can communicate from our respective homes on the entire affair."
"I feel it would be easier to do the second choice as whom knows what would happen if I were to leave here." Decided the old ruler and Nur nodded in understanding.
"Very well." And with that, Nur made his leave via a portal.
"Hmmph, should have offered to take up the mantle of Pharaoh himself." Grumbled Arkhen to himself as he rolled on.
Unfortunately, Arkhen wouldn't survive the night as his heart would finally give out on him and the unexpected event would cause chaos due to a clear lack of succession. Prompting his Heirs to quickly take the reins to keep the Country from truly descending chaos and sparking changes that would take some considerable time to take effect. Changes that Arkhen had been avoiding for a long time given his thoughts on certain things like Democracy and alliances would be made with certain elements in the outside world like Krakoa to better strengthen Rumekistan and its people. Though it would be several more years before the outside world would learn the full extent of Rumekistan's history.
Author's Notes: Glad I got that out of the way! Arkhen is an OC I made specifically for this chapter but anyone is free to use him.
