The Bad Wolf CH9
This is going to be the only chapter in this entire thing that isn't from Rose/Bad Wolf's point of view. This is going to all be from the Doctor's point of view. I hope you enjoy. Also if you didn't know, all the stuff about Fortuna is from a canon book called 'The Stone Rose,' it's an absolutely brilliant book (and Ten and Rose kiss!)
I sit down next to Rose and take a deal breath before I ask her "Rose why do you hate me?"
"I'm not Rose," She says before turning away from me. Hurt bubbles up inside me but I push it down and say "Okay, Okay," I put my hands up in mock surrender and then say "Why do you hate me?" I'm not sure that I actually want her to answer that, but I still need to ask.
"How could I not," She says, and my heart begins to breaks, I never want anyone to hate me but especially not my Rose Tyler, "R… Bad Wolf why?" I say, calling her Bad Wolf is so unnatural because even now she's so Rose, how can she not see that?
"You have abandoned me so many times, how could I not. Let's not argue and spoil Amy and Rory's big day." She says, and she's right completely right. Of course she's right, she's Rose when has Rose ever been wrong.
"Yes, okay. But can you at least tell me how you survived, you should have been erased from time?" I ask her trying to keep the hurt out of my voice. I'm incredibly glad that she's is alive ,but she just shouldn't be she should be erased from time.
"My best guess is that I am too connected to the time vortex in this universe to be erased. Your TARDIS is outside, bye bye." She says, and I sigh slightly, get up, and then leave.
It is good that the old girl is outside, but what's happened to Rose?
Amy and Rory come back to the TARDIS after about an hour and I immediately round on Rory and say "What's happened to Rose?" He looks startled but says "You mean Tunie?"
"That's what you seem to be calling her, why?" I say, and Rory looks taken back by my attitude and says "Tunie is short for Fortuna," okay that dose makes sense, and I say "Of course, why didn't I already realise. You were a Roman you would have recognised her from the statues of Fortuna."
"I'm sorry, who's Fortuna?" Amy asks, feeling quite left out of the conversation.
"Fortuna, Roman Goddess of Luck. I made a statue of Rose as Fortuna, it's in the British Museum, and then after a while all the Fortuna statues were modelled after Rose. Right, Rory tell me more about Rose," Amy still looks confused (and slightly upset that I'm paying Rory more attention then her) and Rory looks bewildered at the sudden interrogation but says "Um, well I met her in 450 AD. She was jabbering on about how the Romans left Britain in 410 AD and something about me not having a Vortex Manipulator, so I asked her if she knew you. That first time I met her was the only time that she wore anything different,"
"What do you mean by that," I ask him cutting him of halfway through his tale.
"Mean by what?" Rory asks.
"What do you mean by that was the only time that she wore anything different?" I say quickly and impatiently.
"Oh, you know that red dress that she was wearing?" Rory asks and I nod sharply at him, "Well apart from the very first time that I met her she has exclusively worn that red dress."
"How many times did you meet her?" I ask, assuming that Rose got her hands on a vortex manipulator and visited him occasionally over the course of nearly two thousand years. Rory looks at me, slightly confused before saying "More than I can count. Tunie would stay for a while, maybe about a year or two and then leave in her TARDIS," I suck in a deep breath and say "Her TARDIS?"
Rory looks at me strangely before saying "Yes, her TARDIS,"
I interrupt Rory again and say "Rose has a TARDIS?"
Rory roles his eyes at me and says "Yes Tunie has a TARDIS, it looks like a Red telephone box, and she doesn't like being called Rose, least of all by you. Anyway as I was saying, she would leave for a bit in her TARDIS to 'save the universe' before coming back and spending time with me. It wasn't quite as long for Rose as it was for me, I think it was a bit over a thousand years for her?"
Oh my poor poor Rose, she's got Jacks curse. I left her with my human Metacrisis clone so that they could live out the rest of their lives together, she'll have hugely outlived him. My poor pink and yellow not quite human.
"Wait," Amy says "A thousand years, she looks human?"
"So dose he," Rory says, pointing at me.
Amy and Rory are still in Leadsworth and I'm bored, so when I get sent a blue envelope with a large silver 2 on it I don't hesitate to follow the map reference. I end up in a dingy dinner somewhere in America. I see Amy, Rory, River, and Rose! Rose is here! I don't know why but she is, I grin widely at her and she stalks up to me glowereing.
"You selfish prat!" She says coldly, anger dripping of ever syllable. She raises her arm and I'm preparing myself for a Tyler slap… when she punches me hard on the nose! I feel the bone in my nose break and blood starts pouring out the end. Rose leaves and I look at the others who are all looking at me like I just dropped dead and I say to them "Okay, I'm assuming that's for something that I haven't done yet?"
"Yes," River says to me quietly before beginning to ask me about my age.
"Sorry, Colonel Manton. I lied. Three minutes forty two seconds." I say, we're winning, this is good.
"Colonel Manton, you will give the order for your men to withdraw," Strax says.
"No. Colonel Manton, I want you to tell your men to run away." I correct.
"You what?" Colonel Manton asks, clearly confused.
"Those words. Run away. I want you to be famous for those exact words. I want people to call you Colonel Run Away. I want children laughing outside your door, because they've found the house of Colonel Run Away. And, when people come to you, and ask if trying to get to me through the people I love is in any way a good idea, I want you to tell them your name. Oh, look, I'm angry. That's new. I'm really not sure what's going to happen now." I say my voice burning with pure unadulterated fury.
"The anger of a good man is not a problem. Good men have too many rules." Kovarian says, and I'm just about to tell her that Good Men don't need rules, and that she really doesn't want to find out why I've got so many, when a voice behind me says "Well it's a good thing they've got the anger of a Bad Woman then, isn't it?" Rose has walked in, her eyes are full of fury and she looks downright terrifying, I'm not even the one all her anger is focused on and she is absolutely terrifying.
"And who a you girl, some silly little chav he picked up of the Estates?" Madame Kovarian says and I almost chuckle at her stupidity, is she really trying to provoke the all powerful Time Goddess? Even before Rose looked into the heart of the TARDIS she was extraordinary. Rose raises her eyebrow at Madame Kovarian and says "I haven't had the displeasure of meeting you yet, I'm the Bad Wolf" Rose says as her eyes start to glow gold. She's a terrifying vengeful goddess, and terror flashes across Kovarian's face but she almost immediately composes herself and says "Is that supposed to scare me?"
Rose looks her up and down and says "Well it clearly did so maybe you should answer that." That's the Rose I know. The brilliant Rose that I know. Her hair starts to glow and the parts of it begin to float "But trust me Kovarian" Rose says "You don't want me as an enemy, although you have already invariably made yourself one. Soon I will kill you, I can't right now because that would destroy the universe, but one day, one day soon I will kill you and I will kill you slowly and painfully." Rose says and by this point she is glowing entirely gold and floating a good foot of the ground, her entire form oozing power and danger. She with distain drilling of her every word says "Now Kovarian, I have to leave but remember one day I am going to find you and I will kill you. Give the order Colonel Runaway,"
Rose turns her back and someone fires a bullet at her back, my voice catches in my throat as I try to yell at her to look out. Rose can't die, not now, not when I've finally got her back (even if she is furious with me). Rose puts her hand behind her back and shoot the bullet with a pulse of golden time energy. She look at them over my shoulder and mockingly says "If I can disintegrate the Dalek Emperor and all his troops do you really think I can't disintegrate a bullet?" I laugh silently to myself, oh I've missed her, I've missed her so much.
"Where the hell have you been? Every time you've asked, I have been there. Where the hell were you today?" I yell at River.
"I couldn't have prevented this." She replies.
"You could have tried!" I tell her, my voice getting louder as I get more angry.
"And so, could you." River says and looks at straight at Amy before saying "I know you're not all right. But hold tight Amy, because you're going to be."
"You think I wanted this? I didn't do this. This, this wasn't me!" I yell at her.
"This was exactly you. All this. All of it. You make them so afraid. When you began, all those years ago, sailing off to see the universe, did you ever think you'd become this? The man who can turn an army around at the mention of his name. Doctor. The word for healer and wise man throughout the universe. We get that word from you, you know. But if you carry on the way you are, what might that word come to mean? To the people of the Gamma Forests, the word Doctor means mighty warrior. How far you've come. And now they've taken a child, the child of your best friends, and they're going to turn her into a weapon just to bring you down. And all this, Doc, in fear of you!" River says.
"Who are you?" I ask.
"Oh look, you're cot. Haven't seen that in a very long while." River says.
"No, no, you tell me. Tell me who you are." I yell at her.
"I am telling you. Can't you read?" River says and I look at the writing and everything makes sense.
"You can't be, you just can't!" I say.
"But I am,"
"Your Melody Pond!" I say, and she nods at the same time that Amy shrieks "What! You can't be my Melody Pond, you're River Song,"
River goes over to her and says "I'm sorry Mum, I really am but I'm Melody Pond,"
"I suppose it dose makes senses when you think about it," Rory says and River smiles at him.
"How dose it make sense?" Amy asks.
"Rivers and Ponds and Melodys and Songs," Rory says simply and Amy's starts crying and says "Am I ever going to see my baby again?"
River looks incredibly sad at that and says "I'm sorry Mum, but you can't. There was no way that Auntie Wolf could have given me back to you,"
"Wait," I say, interrupting River "Rose raised you?"
River looks at me, glowering and says "Don't you dare call her Rose, she doesn't like it and you certainly can't fault her for it. How would you like it if we all suddenly refused to call you Doctor?" I gulp and look down at the floor, "Like I was saying, Auntie Wolf couldn't have given me back to you without destroying this universe and all the sub-universes attached to it, but what she could do was make sure I wasn't raised as a psychopath by the Silence. She was absolutely brilliant at it, and I had as happy a childhood as I could considering the circumstances,"
"Um, why couldn't Tunie give you back to us?" Asks Rory.
"It's kinda complicated, do you remember that little girl that kept phoning the President?" We all nod "Well she was me,"
Amy gasped and said "I shot my own Daughter?"
River looked pained, but nodded and continued talking "It's a lot more complicated than just that, you obviously know Mels Zucker"
Amy and Rory nod but I but in saying "Who?"
"Mels is my best friend," Amy says and River nods before saying "Yeah, I'm also Mels Zucker,"
"You can't be, you look completely different," Rory says, looking overwhelmed.
"I'm sorry Dad, it's called regeneration." River says and I gape at her.
"Yes Doc, I can regenerate. I was conceived in the Time Vortex," River says.
"So I named my daughter, after my daughter?" Amy says chuckling weakly and River nods.
I'm dropping the Ponds off at their house, when I notice a gravestone near to their house. That wasn't their the last time I dropped them of, "Ponds," They look at me, "When did that gravestone appear?" I ask.
They look at the gravestone I'm pointing at, Rory furrows his brow and Amy looks at me to say "That was never there before,". Well this is confounding.
I go and look at the gravestone, and read the rough inscription, it reads 'Hear Lies Madame Kovarian, a Terrible Woman Who Was Killed By An Even More Terrible Woman, And A Message To Anyone Reading This Who Knew Who Madame Kovarian, Nice To Meet You, Run For Your Life'. I freeze and Amy looks over my shoulder and grins widely "She's dead, she's actually dead," she says relieve coursing through her voice.
"Yeah, but who killed her?" Rory asked, ever practical.
"Rose," I say quietly.
"What makes you say that, Tunie isn't a terrible person, you know that." Rory says, quite confused and slightly defensive over his best friend.
"No she certainly isn't, she's fantastic. One of the first things I said to her was 'Nice to meet you Rose, run for your life,' before I blew up her job, she's left me a message to tell me it was her. The really question is why Rose thinks she's a worse person than Madame Kovarian. Rose hated Madame Kovarian, but what has she done to make her hate herself so much. Rory, has she been acting like this since you met her?" I ask. I am worried about Rose, because although she had her insecurities the Rose I knew didn't have the self-hatred that the Bad Wolf has.
"What do you mean?"
"Has she had this self-hatred side you met her,".
"Yeah, yes she has,"
"Okay, so something happened in the parallel universe, something big. I just need to figure out what it is."
I get up off the ground and jump into the TARDIS to find Rose to try and make her talk.
I am the Bad Wolf
I am the Great Exterminator
I am the Killer of All
I am the Destroyer of A Universe
And There's No One I Hate More Then Myself
I hope you enjoyed the Doctor's point of view. This chapter was a lot longer than I was expecting but I'm quite happy with it. Yes everyone is very OOC but what I was trying to get across is the Doctors eternal love for Rose. I hope you enjoyed and that you have a nice day.
