Dragon of Mystery Presents

A Tale of Wall-Crawlers and Purple Dragons

Starring Spyro, Cynder, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

A Song of Spiders and Dragons

(Enjoy the show)

(Our story opens up in a cheap New York apartment, where a lone spider dangles from the open window. And this apartment is a mess. Boxes of Chinese takeout strewn on a table, textbooks covering most of the shelves, dead plants in the windowsill. But then we see notably strange items: a police band radio, a few sketchbooks outlining designs for a wrist-mounted projectile device, and notably under a lens by a laptop, a familiar red mask with white eyes. For this is the apartment of none other than Peter Parker, alias Spider-Man. And asleep right there on the one bed in this apartment is the man himself, Spider-Man. But just as he starts to wake up, a phone goes off, which Spider-Man turns on, revealing a police radio scanner application)

Police Dispatch: All units, respond. Level Four Mobilization. Location: Fisk Tower.

Spider-Man: Fisk?!

(But just as that happens, we transition to another location, one slightly classier, where two familiar dragons, one violet and one ebony, stand admiring the day from their private chambers, cushions strewn about, silk banners hanging down from the wall. It's much more elegant than Spider-Man's apartment. But just as we get used to the scene, two phones go off. Each of the duo answers one of them, revealing the same police radio scanner application that's on Spider-Man's. They just got the same announcement.)

Police Dispatch: SWAT is 10-84 at Fisk Tower. All units standby, warrant is en route.

Spyro: Time to checkmate the Kingpin. Should we notify Peter?

Cynder: He probably just got the same announcement. We'll meet Spidey there. Let's go!

(As the dispatch goes out, the three heroes get ready. Spider-Man puts on his web shooters and slips into his costume, activating the integrated heads up display as an envelope is slid under the door, revealing he's behind on rent. Conflicted, Spider-Man ignores the rent notice for now. Meanwhile, Spyro and Cynder stock up on gems and give a test of their elements to ensure they're still in fighting shape while sliding on a pair of headsets that enable them to communicate with Spider-Man. And soon enough, the great bay window of the building is opened and Spyro and Cynder fly out. Meanwhile, Spider-Man starts swinging from his apartment window and soon enough, the three heroes are flying alongside each other)

Spider-Man: Good to see you two could make it!

Spyro: We wouldn't miss this for the world, Spidey. We've been working to take down Kingpin since we got here. I can't believe it's finally about to happen!

Cynder: Assuming we're not late for the party. Get Captain Watanabe on the phone.

Spider-Man: Roger that.

(With that, Spider-Man uses his suit's apparently built in telecommunications system to ring the trio's ally on the police force, Captain Yuri Watanabe)

Yuri: Captain Watanabe.

Spyro: Is Fisk taken down yet?

Yuri: Still waiting on the warrants.

Spider-Man: You mind if we join the fun?

Yuri: Fisk's lawyers will tear the case to shreds if this doesn't go by the book.

Cynder: Come on, Yuri! We've been working this angle for eight years. Not a second goes by that we haven't dreamed of this moment!

Yuri: You guys really want to help? I suggest you head for Times Square. Fisk's goons are trying to stop backup from arriving.

Spyro: Copy that, Captain. We're on our way.

(Just as that call hangs up, another one comes in)

?: Peter? Where are you? We need to run through at least one test of the prototype before the grant committee arrives.

Spider-Man: I'll be in soon, Doctor. Just dealing with a... personal issue.

Cynder: (Joining in on the call) No need to worry, Doctor Octavius. Peter's with us at the moment, working on a small project.

?: Ah. Thanks for clearing that up, Cynder. Will I be seeing you and Spyro at the demonstration?

Spyro: You can count on it, Doctor Octavius. We wouldn't miss your work for the world.

Octavius: I really appreciate your support. Having you two behind me really means a lot. See you in a couple of minutes then!

Spider-Man: (As the call hangs up) Thanks for saving my bacon there, guys.

Cynder: You're going to have to tell him eventually. Spyro and I already told Doctor Octavius we're working with Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: I swear, I'll get this figured out.

Spyro: (Hears the police cars moving below them) Better figure it out later, there's the cavalry. Time we unblocked the pass.

(And as the trio swings down into action, our tale ends for now)

And that looks like a good spot to close off for now. Believe it or not, the thing that took me the longest time to figure out was whether to put Spider-Man in Warfang or Spyro and Cynder in New York. Ultimately, the latter obviously won out, mostly because explaining how all of Spider-Man's rogues ended up in Warfang as well took too much time to explain. So, how will things progress from here? Will the raid go as planned? Tune in next time to start finding out! Same time... same channel!
