Chapter 10: Parents' Day
Chloé Bourgeois and Sabrina Raincomprix entered the classroom and found something that surprised them. "Is Juleka Couffaine wearing white?" Chloé asked.
"I think so, Chloé." Sabrina replied and the two girls decided not to keep on talking about it.
"Nice bracelet, Chloé." Adrien commented.
"Thank you, Adrien." Chloé replied. "My Dad gave it to me."
"Hi, Chloé." Alya said as she and a man entered the classroom.
"Hi, Alya." Chloé replied. "And this must be your father."
"Yes, Chloé." Alya confirmed. "This is my Dad, Otis Césaire. Dad, this is my friend Chloé Bourgeois."
"Nice to meet you, Monsieur Césaire." Chloé replied.
"Likewise, young lady." Otis fearfully replied since he was meeting the girl whose father can, as Le Grand Paris' owner, fire his wife; and, as the Mayor of Paris, fire him.
Alya, Chloé and Sabrina took their respective seats. Ms. Bustier called the parents. With help from their daughter Marinette, Tom Dupain and Sabine Cheng distributed some samples to the other students. Since Chloé was going the extra mile to be nice, she took a bite of hers. "Not bad." She said.
"From you, Chloé, I'll take that as a compliment." Marinette Dupain-Cheng commented.
"Why couldn't they bring some camembert?" Plagg moaned from inside Sabrina's purse.
"Plagg." Sabrina hissed.
Looking around, Chloé was surprised by the fact there was no sign of Gabriel Agreste's presence. 'How odd. It's one thing that he'd not come in person but I expected to see him in a tablet like when he judged that hat contest.' She thought.
"Who's next?" Ms. Bustier said as Marinette's parents finished talking about their job.
"I'm next!" Mayor Bourgeois eagerly volunteered. "I'm next!"
"He's gonna spend the whole night here." Chloé groaned. Meanwhile, Tikki started feeling the aroma of Chloé half-eaten pastry. "Calm yourself, Tikki." The kwami of creation told herself. "You cannot risk exposing your wielder like that."
Plagg then phased himself into Chloé's purse. "Hi, sugarcube." The kwami of destruction said.
"Plagg, don't scare me like that!" Tikki replied with a stronger than usual glare.
"Calm down, it looks you're in one of your… chocolate flood moods?" Plagg was now worried.
"Don't worry, Plagg." Tikki reassured her fellow kwami. "It's still too soon for one of those again."
"Right." Plagg conceded. "According to my estimations, the next one is about 2 or 3 years from now."
"Quiet, Plagg." Tikki said.
'Why couldn't Fu let Chloé and Sabrina meet him?' Plagg thought. 'At least then I'd be able to seek help from Wayzz or Sass.'
"Excuse me, Mayor Bourgeois, but I'm afraid other parents need the time." The teacher said, making the Mayor stop.
"At last." Chloé muttered. She endured so much of her father's boring lecture that Officer Raincomprix's speech about everyone being innocent until being proven guilty sounded refreshing by comparison. She then took another bite of her pastry.
Eventually, Officer Raincomprix finished his speech. Otis Césaire started explaining details of his work. "I hope I never have to see a cage after this." Chloé commented and then noticed Alya's Dad approaching her. 'Uh-oh. Is he mad at me for my comment?' She thought.
"Chloé Bourgeois, I'm terribly sorry for what my daughter did to you." Otis Cesaire commented.
"Dad, Mom already apologized for me." Alya moaned.
"I'm just making it sure, Alya." Her father argued.
"Whatever." Chloé said. After all parents spoke, the Mayor's Daughter approached the Dupain-Chengs. "Excuse me. That sample was so good I'd like to buy five similar pastries."
"Sure." Tom Dupain replied. "Are you going to pick them up or would you rather have us deliver them to you?"
"Have someone deliver them tonight, if possible, Mr. Dupain." Chloé answered and showed her credit card.
"Yes, Chloé." Sabine Cheng replied as she presented a card-reading machine.
"I can't believe it!" Marinette exclaimed.
"That Chloé's being so nice?" Nino asked.
"I was actually talking about my parents bringing that machine with them since I didn't think anyone would buy anything but that part is hard to believe as well, Nino." Marinette explained.
Afterwards, everyone returned to their respective homes. Unfortunately, for Marinette, she didn't stay there for long. "You want me to WHAT?" Marinette asked in horror.
"We want you to deliver the pastries ordered by Chloé Bourgeois, Marinette." Her mother answered.
"Yes, Mom." Marinette sadly replied. 'Chloé probably just wants to humiliate me.' She thought. Being an obedient daughter, Marinette did as ordered and took the pastries to Le Grand Paris, where the doorman, upon being told what she was doing there, took the pastries and signed a document stating he received them. The doorman then took them to Chloé.
After the Mayor's daughter was left alone with Tikki in her room, Chloé ripped a pastry in half and offered one piece to her kwami. "Thank you, Chloé." Tikki told her wielder.
"You're welcome, Tikki." Chloé replied. "I figured out you'd like them and must have suffered being so close to one while unable to get a bite without revealing yourself."
"You got that right, Chloé." Tikki commented.
Meanwhile, Sabrina and Plagg were back home as well. "Why couldn't there be someone selling cheese?" Plagg moaned. "Is that too much to ask?"
"Plagg, cheese isn't as popular as sweets." Sabrina argued.
"You could ask that comic book artist friend of yours to draw up a comic about camembert." Plagg suggested and Sabrina decided to ignore her kwami.
