S1 E9: Camp Kids or Us

Many years ago…

A group of kids looked from behind to watch a creepy old camp cabin. Not far from them, a little rabbit felt goose bumps forming onto her arms as the cold wind blew through her fur.

"The haunting is subtle, yet really, really dull," complained one boy Dread Baron. "Can we go home now?"

"This is ridiculous," added Gideon Gray, a fox cub.

"Dread, Giddy, he'll hear you," shushed Dread Baron's twin brother, Dick, pulling his brother and the fox behind the tree.

"Dickie… Come on" Dread Baron laughed. "To hear you talk, you'd think something terrible was gonna happen to us. I'll go Knock Knock Ginger the house and you'll see. No ghost."

But then, the little rabbit leaped in front of Dread before he could approach the cabin.

"Please, don't do this!" the bunny said. "Please, this is why nobody hangs out with you. Or why you guys don't have girlfriends."

"You're overreacting, Hopps" Gideon hissed.

"I am not! They say that vandalism and pranks done by juvenile delinquents are serious crimes. And many innocent lives get kidnapped at night, never to be seen again."

The boys stared at the bunny with funny looks.

"Judy, if you think we'll turn into donkeys, you're out of your tiny, little mind" replied Dick.

"No, but you are trespassing!"

Dick gasped, noticing Dread had slipped out of his sight. He tried to grab his brother, but Dread crawled through the grass like a military soldier.

The other kids panicked, begging him to return.

"Brother, stop! No, Dread. Brother, come back."

"Come back, please! Dread, I'm serious. Come back! Come on!"

"Dread, get your bum off the grass! Come back! Dread, come back!"

Dread ignored them and kept crawling toward the cabin. After crawling for a few feet, he stopped and picked up an object.

"Oh, no. A champagne bottle," he laughed.

"Dread Baron, put that down" Dick snapped.

"Come back, please" pleaded Judy, but Dread kept laughing.

As he kept crawling toward the cabin, Judy and Dick's eyes widened as they saw the bottle sink into the grass.

"I'll go get help" whispered Gideon, taking off.

Dread reached the steps, stood up on his feet and climbed up to the porch. He did a quick examination, and he was not taking it seriously.

"Brother, I wouldn't do that if I were you," warned Dick.

Dread then turned around to Judy and Dick.

"Oh, guys, who am I?" he called and imitated a grouchy neighbor that they knew. "Get off my property!"

"Don't. Come on," Judy warned him.

Dread then shrugged, laughed and turned around to the door.

"Who do I look like to you? A jack mule?"

He knocked on the door and it echoed eerily throughout the cabin. Suddenly, there was a tremor and Judy watched as the window shades went up with the windows glowing from inside.

A creaking was heard as wood shreds fell from the walls and the door swung opened, whatever it was that was inside was really terrifying.

Dread froze there as a statue as a frightening figure stood in the doorway.

The second the creature snarled, it made a glare. Dread tried to run, but he tripped down the stairs.

"Sweet cheese and crackers!" cried Judy. "A monster!"

"Run. Dread, get out of there!" Dick called.

Dread ran for his life as the creature chased after him.

"Mama! Mama!"

"This way. This way." Dick and Judy kept calling to him waving their arms.

"Help!"

"Come on, brother, this way!" cried Dick.

"Hurry!" Judy screamed.

The creature reached out to catch Dread, but it stopped once it reached the grass and went back in.

As Dread reached Judy and Dick, he crashed into them and they fell on the ground, accidentally knocking over Gideon and their parents, Stu and Bonnie Hopps and Delilah Dastardly.

"Richard, are you alright?" Delilah asked anxiously.

"Yes, Mum" replied Dick.

Stu and Bonnie held Judy in their arms, relieved that their daughter was safe.

They looked back and the creature roared back at them.

The two families screamed and ran straight across camp to the exit, carrying their kids and Gideon following close behind. They immediately went into their horse drawn carriage.

"Whatever you do, don't look back!" yelled Dick.

The fox cub looked back anyway to see the cabin in its' normal state, and then the ooze popped out and roared back at him.

"AHHHHH! Too late, I looked back!" Gideon screamed as he immediately jumped into he carriage with fright.

Present Day

It was a beautiful autumn night in London. It was the midnight hour and Judy Hopps, Dr. Wilde and their friends were having a midnight snacking!

"I love ice cream in the middle of the night!" cried Wilde.

"Oh, we'll get coal for the holidays for sure!" laughed Judy.

"Are you crazy?" Gideon yelled. "Mrs. Otterton will catch us for this!"

"It was my idea, Giddy!" Mrs. Otterton called out from another room. "We're celebrating the day Dread Baron was kicked out of London! So, shut up and eat!"

Judy giggled as the guys stared at each other.

"How does she do THAT?" they said in unison.

Muttley just snickered.

They immediately dug in, eating all the ice cream that Mrs. Otterton offered.

Suddenly, the telegraph machine went off!

Muttley rose up, wiped the ice cream off his lip and listened to the telegram.

"What is it?" Judy frowned.

"Rasm frasm " Muttley answered. "Rastardly already there."

Everyone stood silently as Judy stood up.

At Dastardly's home, the group found the whole cottage a mess! Dastardly and Delilah were coming back from New York and found the chaos.

"Why is it every case I try to solve involves you and Muttley?" Judy groaned.

"Honestly, I've been asking the same thing, Judy" Dastardly replied. "Especially the times you keep saving my skin instead of throwing me in prison."

Judy shrugged her shoulders.

As Judy, Wilde, Bladebeak and Muttley entered with Dastardly and Delilah, they shivered at the thought of the burglars were still there, hiding… waiting to pounce.

Delilah took a kitchen knife and aimed it cautiously.

"This is a professional chef's kitchen knife!" she called out. "One of the most sharpest blades in culinary arts! The problem is I don't know if I chopped six slices or five."

Dastardly carefully lowered his mother's knife, then gently shook his head.

Bladebeak, of course being a twit, continued to egg on the so called robbers for Delilah.

"You've got to ask yourself: Do I feel clucky?!" he growled. "Well? Do ya, punk?"

Muttley snatched Bladebeak before he could chop something out of control.

"This is ridiculous!" Wilde growled. "They're not here anymore."

Judy examined the room cautiously.

"To be precise, no one was here at all" she began.

"Noticing the so called stains on the wall, there was a horrid thunderstorm with a chance of freezing rain. With a small cottage like this, there are huge chances of leaks and possible decomposition unless we get help with the refurbishment."

Dastardly and Muttley eyed each other nervously.

"But… didn't we make sure the place was sturdy?" Wilde asked Judy.

"Somehow we miscalculated" the rabbit replied.

"The exterior of the cottage was built from the broken remains of Dastardly's airship. The glass cracked when we crashed into Big Ben and metal is not easy to reorganize or reshape."

Delilah didn't like what was being said.

Suddenly, they heard rustling.

"What the heck?" gasped Wilde.

"Mum, better get that knife ready" Dastardly whispered.

Judy and Wilde cautiously followed the source of the sound. They eventually found Cotton and Molly under the table.

"Auntie Judy" giggled Cotton.

"Ju-dee!" Molly gurgled.

"Cotton, Molly, you little mess makers" Judy said in a teasing manner. "Did you make that mess?"

"No." answered Cotton. "The storm."

"It's okay, honey bun. But you gave us quite a scare. And what did I say about staying following us on a case?"

"Sworry."

"Now, come on and we'll bring you girls home."

As Judy picked up her sister and favorite niece, Wilde and Muttley shook their heads.

"Kids" laughed Delilah.

A loving memory returned to Dastardly. He remembered he had to throw Dread for the first time when they first met Judy as a baby.

Delilah had let her young boys, Dick and Dread approach the crib out of curiosity. They were babysitting the newest member of the Hopps family.

The little baby, whose name was Judy, was cooing and reached out to the boys.

Dread didn't like her the moment she came into the house.

But Dick's heart melted. He gently picked Judy and sang softly to her.

"Where the North wind meets the sea…" Dick sang, gently running his little finger along the bridge of the Judy's nose, thus plunging her into sleep.

"There's a river full of memory

Sleep, my darling, safe and sound

For in this river, all is found…"

Delilah smiled gently. She knew that one day her son will be a great dad.

"Aw, come on, Dickie, you know that lullaby isn't ours to begin with" complained Dread Baron.

Dick frowned. "Yes, but our family have been friends of the royal family since the beginning. Besides, I don't care. The lullaby always works."

"Oh, please. Just because you're ten seconds older than me, it doesn't mean you know everything. And Mum always likes you best."

"No, she loves us both. I don't think there's no love competition between us."

"She only said that cause you're the ugliest."

Peeved, Dick gave Judy to his mother and yanked Dread by the collar.

Outside the house, there was only silence until…

"AAAAAHHHHH!"

Dread had been thrown out by Dick.

"And don't come back until you have some manners!" he yelled, slamming the door.

In the present, Dastardly softly chuckled cause on that day, Dread had landed in a mud puddle and it took him a two hour bath to scrub the smell out.

The next morning at the flat, Judy and Delilah were babysitting Molly and Cotton while the boys were out.

"See you later, Delilah" Mrs Otterton greeted.

"Oh, going a swim in the forest river again, Mrs. Otterton?" asked Delilah excitedly.

"I'm playing against my husband. He wins every time. But today, I am gonna win. Later."

"Have fun."

As soon as Mrs. Otterton left, Delilah saw Judy coloring with Molly and Cotton.

"A yellow tree?"

"Yeah!" squeaked Cotton. "I like to use different colors."

Cotton then turned to Judy, curiously.

"Auntie Judy, how come some people and animals are black and some are white and some are brown?"

"Well, honey… I guess God created the world He wanted to use different colors too" replied Judy.

The telephone started to ring, which Delilah answered.

"Hello? Yes, this is the number of Judy Hopps of Baker Street. Aw, hello, Donna. Yes, your sister's right here."

Judy got up and took the phone from Delilah.

"Thank you" Judy smiled, then spoke into the phone.

"Yes, Donna. Yeah, Cotton and Molly are having a great time. Oh, you're gonna be gone a while longer. Okay, well, I think it would be best for the girls got together with their friends and go camping."

Cotton and Molly overheard and got excited.

"No, Donna, I promise" Judy continued. "Ok, I promise they'll be safe. Ok, love you, sis. Bye."

Judy shook her head as she hung up.

"Are Molly and I going camping, Auntie Judy?" Cotton asked.

"You certainly are" sang Judy. "Oh, maybe you can call your friends and see if they want to go."

Cotton and Molly squealed with excitement and hopped away.

Delilah was worried for the girls' sake. She was aware of how Dread Baron's failed Knock, Knock Ginger prank gone wrong and whatever was inside the cabin.

"Are you sure, Judy?" asked Delilah. "The place could be off limits."

"I'm not sure" replied Judy. "That's why I sent the boys to check it out."

When Dr. Wilde, Dastardly and Muttley got to the camp, Gideon (who came along for old times sake) had shivers running down his spine.

"I tell you, Dick" he whimpered. "I don't wanna be here. This place gave me nightmares when I was a cub."

Dastardly replied cautiously "I know, Gideon. Believe me, I don't want to be here anymore than you do. But for the sake of Molly and Cotton, we have to double check."

Wilde and Gideon searched around the cabin. So far so good.

Muttley sniffed around. He knew something the others did not: there was trouble brewing.

"Looks okay" Wilde finally said.

"You're probably right" Dastardly sighed. "Come on, Muttley."

The small group left, leaving the seemingly empty cabin.

The very next day, Molly and Cotton had a great time with their friends!

They went to the camp; did arts and crafts, followed their leader, into a hiking trail, went swimming in the pond, made hot s'mores (or in Molly's case they were s'moes), sat by the campfire.

Judy stopped by and told scary stories to the girls.

Afterwards as they were getting ready for bed, Molly was frantic and looked around for something.

"Dolly!" she cried. "Dolly! Dolly!"

Judy hopped over to her little sister and comforted her as Cotton looked under and around the bed.

"It's okay" she whispered. "Everything's gonna be all right. There, there. We'll find her, Molly."

The loud cries woke the bigger kids, who were obviously peeved.

"How am I supposed to get any sleep around here?" complained one kid, Myrtle Edmonds, who stomped her way toward Judy, Molly and Cotton, stepping on the other girls' heads.

"Molly shouldn't be in this room." she snapped. "She's a baby. She cries all the time. She wets the bed."

"I do not!" whined Molly.

THUMP!

A pillow was thrown at Myrtle.

"You're the one who shouldn't be in here!" shouted Jane (Return to Never Land).

Soon, a pillow fight broke out between Myrtle, Jane and a couple of other girls.

"We're gonna get in trouble. Go, Jane, go! Oh, my goodness! Oh, my goodness!"

But Cotton had seen enough, ducking herself and Molly under the covers as the fight continued.

Judy stepped in to break up the fight.

"Stop it!" yelled the older rabbit. "I mean it! Do you want me to call your parents? Go back to bed."

All the girls did as they were told. Myrtle, though, hated being bossed by… an animal.

"You have been having detecting cases for too long, Weirdo Hopps" she grumbled.

"Don't speak to elders like that, Edmonds!" scolded Judy.

Suddenly, the cabin began to shake, scaring the girls. Cotton and Molly huddled close to Judy, close to tears.

"It's gonna be okay, girls" said the older rabbit. "We'll find a way through this."

Judy was concerned for her sister and niece.

She always hated it whenever any of her family members are involved with her crime solving cases. Especially the youngest members. If anything happened to them, Judy would never forgive herself.

Back at the flat, Wilde paced back and forth.

"Judy should have been back by now" said the fox. "It's not like her to be late."

"I'm sure they're fine" replied Mrs. Otterton. "Right, Richard?"

Dastardly shook his head. "I'm not sure. But when Gideon, Muttley, Wilde and I searched the cabin they're staying in, I sensed something was not right."

Before the boys returned to London, Dastardly spoke with some birds, some friends of Judy's. And he told them if something was wrong to alert him right away.

"You can speak to birds?" asked Wilde.

"No" said Dastardly, "but I borrowed a lute from a musician and played a few notes that they could understand. Muttley is a better listener."

At that moment, a small flock of bluebirds (from Snow White) flew in the window. They whistled to Muttley, who nodded.

"What did they say, what did they say?" Dastardly panicked.

"Rasm frasm Rudy Ropps in trouble" translated Muttley. "Someone inside, holding her and little girls hostage."

"Something's inside the cabin?" gasped Mrs. Otterton.

Wilde was overwhelmed by the news and panicked.

"Oh, no. Judy!" he shouted.

Everyone was screaming, yelling with overwhelming fear and horror.

Soon, Muttley slapped across Dastardly, Blazey, Wilde and Mrs. Otterton's faces to knock some senses into them.

"Thanks, we needed that" they said in unison.

Dastardly was worried, but he knew one thing for sure. He must get Gideon and return to the cabin. It was time to face their fears from when they were children.

Back in the cabin, the girls were frightened, crying for their mothers.

Myrtle was trying to call for help on the phone, even though the phone line was dead.

"HELP! HELP! SOMEONE GET US OUT OF HERE! HELP!" she screamed.

The other girls couldn't handle Myrtle's screaming, so Judy and the girls all smacked Myrtle to knock some sense into her.

"Thanks, I needed that" Myrtle said, nervously.

Judy then sat on a nearby table.

"Listen up, girls" she said. "I know you're scared, but I've been through something like this before and the best we can do is stick together."

Thunder roared and the lights went out, scaring the girls.

"The light!" cried Cotton.

"That's it" groaned Jane. "Where is my coat? I'm out of here."

Judy pulled Jane back.

"Don't worry, girls" Judy said anxiously. "Help will come soon, I hope."

They then heard footsteps and a loud moan.

"What was that?" gasped Melody (The Little Mermaid 2).

"I don't know" Jane answered.

"It was probably just the wind" peeped a smart little girl named Velma Dinkley (Scoob!)

"Just the wind?" repeated a young Daphne (Scoob!). "Just the wind? It's never just the wind!"

Jane covered Daphne's mouth, worriedly.

Then a voice was heard that Judy was able to recognize.

"Hey, get away from there!"

It was Gideon's voice. He sounded like he was in trouble, but Judy knew that her family's safety comes first.

"I have an idea" Judy said, grabbing a pitchfork.

"I don't know why the owners keep these here, but we can use this. Grab on."

They all held onto the pitchfork toward the door, ready to fight.

Lightning flashed on the wall, illuminating a scary, monstrous shadow! The girls screamed in horror!

A figure jumped in, breaking a window and attacked the creature casting shadow.

"Run for it, girls!" called out Gideon. "Run!"

Screaming continued as the fight ended with Gideon thrown to the ground, seemingly dead.

"Gideon!" Judy screamed.

The door started to creak, then cracks appeared!

Afraid, the girls prepare to attack when the door falls to the ground. A tall, cloaked figure entered, holding the pitchfork.

"Whoa, whoa, hold on, girls! Girls! Judy!" the figure removed his hood, revealing Dastardly holding a lantern over his face. "It's me."

Relieved, Judy let go of the pitchfork.

"Uncle Dickie! Giddy captured the bad guy!" Cotton cried.

Dastardly shook his head in disbelief as he and Judy helped Gideon tackle the creature. Once the dust settled, the creature was down.

"Ok, let's see who this maniac is" Judy frowned, taking Dastardly's lantern.

She shined the light on the creature who's held by Gideon, who was covered in mud. It was Creeper.

The rabbits gasped at the sight of the goblin.

"Good evening" chuckled the goblin nervously. "Where's the party?"

"I think you captured the wrong maniac" joked Dastardly.

"What happened to Giddy?" asked Molly.

"He has been tangled up in ropes from the obstacle course and fell in the mud while trying to stop this guy" Judy observed.

"Oxygen, brain, everything getting dark!" choked Gideon.

Cotton untangled the ropes on Gideon, who then fell to the ground.

"Gideon, are you alright?" asked Dastardly.

"Mommy? I'm fine, Mommy."

Judy scoffed in disgust while Dastardly rolled his eyes. Yep, he was okay.

"Why are you trying to scare us?" demanded Judy.

"It's my job" cackled Creeper.

Dastardly stiffed a laugh. "Yes, well… you're fired."

Judy snagged the goblin and tossed him into a cage.

"Thanks, Dick" smiled the rabbit detective. "Saved my back. I oughta let you take on some cases if needed. What else brings you here?"

"We wanted to make sure you girls were okay" Dastardly replied. "And, well, I guess you know that you left some things back at the flat."

He handed Judy her bag.

With a smile, Judy dug through her bag and found something familiar to Molly.

"Dolly!" cried Molly, holding the rag doll.

Suddenly, the lights were back on and the rain slowed down. The girls decided to get out and fast.

"Why did we come here?" asked Cotton.

"I think you and Molly wanted to be like me" Judy answered. "To go to a place that your loved one loved going when they were a child. But now that you see that the place isn't the same as they went and you're kinda let down, right?"

Molly and Cotton nodded.

"It's kind of like winter" continued Judy. "When the snow melts for spring to come in. The magic of snow is nothing but flowers and summer rain."

The girls got it and hugged Judy.

"I think it's time for all of us to go home" Dastardly finally said. "Come on."

The girls looked back as Judy and Dastardly led the criminal out the door.
