APRIL`s FOOLS GUYS XDDDDDD

As if I would stop writing Shizaya ahahahahahaha

I will never leave a story unfinished as long as I live- and I will bloody damn stick to that until hell freezes over xDDDDD

As a matter of fact I have some really sweet updates coming up right now fresh from the Shizaya backery- and HEY you know what?

I got even more news! A new Shizaya story is juuust around to corner to be started by me xD

"Impostor" -taking place in a middle aged setting C; Have a glimpse at my summary for now~

"You will marry the king, disguised as a woman, drink the poison handed to you the wedding night and die, understood?" A soft nod was given as Izaya's father circled his son wearing the dress specifically tailored for tomorrow's departure. Disgust displayed on his face as his glance hit Izaya's hips. The feeling was mutual as nausea and terror choked the raven´s throat. "At least you look the part."

I will probably start this one April the 30th~! xD (Or maybe together with the May updates not sure on that yet haha)

Now without further trolling have fun with the updates~! xD

-๑-๑ ஜ ๑- Chapter 26: Shiki´s motives -๑ ๑-๑-

A day. Honestly it was an insane order not even regarding the raven´s injuries. Recruits needed to be informed, precautions taken- it was obvious Shiki didn't plan nor wanted for this mission to go well.

It caused a certain kind of knot to form in the raven´s stomach as he made his way up the stairs of the wall.

Crutches clutched left and right he felt his hands slip with every movement. His expression was sovereign but his fingers were covered in cold sweat. Not like anyone was going to notice unless he planted face first into the ground.

He felt surprisingly light.

Being somewhat immobile there was no sense in carrying around a maneuver gear, or the belts attached to his usual attire. It was somewhat pleasant- at least one positive aspect to this whole operation.

Red light of the setting sun flooded his senses as he stepped onto the wall.

Letting his eyes scan the area he spotted a chair, a binocular and what he suspected to be artillery partly hidden underneath a tarpaulin with his recruits gathered in a neat row.

That crazy bastard.

Shiki really expected him to lead this mission from up here. He had held a somewhat half hearted belief that Shiki was just testing his willingness to act upon orders. In other words, just appearing here to be replaced by a different lieutenant would have been the preferable option.

But no.

There was no one to relieve him of his duty. Just a fucking chair.

One would think not having to leave the walls was something to appreciate. After all, for once he was not going to be in any immediate danger. And yet the idea couldn't be more wrong. This was a race against time.

Shiki had something planned and Izaya was heavily aware of it.

Maybe he was waiting for Izaya's entire troup to be killed, just so that he could put the blame on Izaya's decision making and orders. Maybe he had bribed some of the guards that Izaya could spot on the wall, to kill him off during the commotion. Or maybe this was about something entirely else.

To find out- quicker than his superior´s plan could unfold- that was the real mission that day.

The written order had been fairly simple- send out some forces, slay a handful of the titans rummaging within wall Maria and report. What was their count? Where were they gathered? Was the hole in the wall still the same? Was there any way of closing it up?

In other words: useless.

That's what this trip was going to be.

It was a mission for new recruits, nothing too hard- almost as if Shiki hadn't even bothered to come up with something real.

Spotting a head of blond, the raven's eyes got distracted.

Shizu-chan. So he was already here.

Only for a moment their glances met. Nothing was said, none of them acted. Too risky the action, too many witnesses at the scene.

If Shiki was really going to try and get rid of him through this, then it was only a matter of time until he diverted his attention to the blond.

After all, Shizu-chan had defied everyone in front of court- not exactly something the majority of the population would do.

It was an unpredictable action, and unpredictability was one factor they would definitely take care of.

"Wall Maria has been taken from us-"

Ah.

There he was.

The bastard of the hour.

Giving a speech as if he hadn't set all of this up just to get his personal goals fulfilled. Standing in front of the recruits Shiki was sharing their goal, about how the wall fell, how it had been a reminder for human kind to always be alert and how this mission was just one more step to reclaim their ground.

Yeah.

As if.

Had been a while since Izaya had heard this much bullshit in under 5 minutes.

But the recruits seemed to really dig his motivation as they saluted with their usual stance.

Living livestock- that's what they were. One dumber than the other. Sure they at least wanted to improve their situation inside the wall, but with what methods?

A frown drew deeply along Izaya's features as he looked at the few people present that actually knew what horror was about to meet them.

Shizu-chan all in front, wearing an expression that spelled just how much he wanted to see Shiki choke on his lies.

Kadota, not too far off to the right, surrounded by Karisawa and Yumasaki. That girl- even now she seemed to know no fear.

A few unknown faces striking the same gloom expression were spotted here and there. Survivors from the fall of Wall Maria Izaya suspected.

Nodding towards their captain the raven took the hint that it was now his turn to spout lies.

"The plan is the following-" he cleared his throat, ditching the crutches halfway-

If he was going to send his recruits to fight titans there was no way he was going to present himself in front of them like some disabled retard.

"Just so we are clear, no heroic single unit assaults or any other kind of strays from today's goal are to take place." An expectant glare was sent towards a particularly excited group of recruits who seemed to be planning to do exactly that.

Shizuo wanted to walk over there and punch some sense into their dumb heads as Izaya continued his instructions. But doing so would probably hinder their upcoming duty- and a hindrance was the last thing he wanted to be.

More orders were given out. Kadota and his group were assigned to examine the wall, the damage it took and report any possible actions they could take to close the hole.

It was right for him to get that part of the mission. He was smart, he might really come up with a good way.

Another group was assigned to take out the titans that did appear with utmost caution and never alone of course.

It was then when suddenly murmurs arose, quiet ones but still perceivable.

Shizuo couldn't quite catch what was going on, but Izaya had a more than just clear idea.

After all- he would also question an invalid superior giving out orders.

Not to mention his status of a death reaper, killing off recruits during missions- he would have doubts as well.

"The rest, secure the nearby area! Make sure we spot every titan before it initiates any action!"

Cutting the instructions short was now probably the best resort to keep from any more uproar rising.

"Understood!"

And with that they scrammed- each into the direction they were ordered to- quite smoothly Izaya had to admit, and for just a short second he wondered if maybe this could for once really be a simple mission.

Without casualties.

Watching the group closest to him he searched for a familiar blotch of blond hair.

Shizuo was with the group that simply checked for any titan sights. He could stay relatively close to the wall and take his time shooting wires.

Honestly- Izaya was glad this was a war they were holding, otherwise he could be judged for preferring and assigning safer duties to specific comrades.

He was in fact favorizing the blond after all.

And he was heavily aware that it was not just because he was looking out for his capabilities but more so because of the person's safety.

Feeling his legs slowly give out underneath his weight he stepped back down and slumped into the chair that had been readied for him.

Just using that object came close to a show of humiliation- especially with the glance Shiki spared Izaya before heading back down inside the wall. But Izaya couldn't care less right now. If this was merely a show of power to make him look stupid and remind him of his place, then he would be more than just grateful and accept it without a word.

Watching the mastermind in question Izaya's eyes pried themselves back to the battlefield. It wasn't Shiki that he should watch right now. Apart from the fact that he would never come out to do something like slitting his throat personally, there were much more important matters to be addressed.

His soldiers, swarming down the walls. So far there were no titans, but taking in all the information he had been presented it was a very reasonable conclusion that whatever Shiki had planned had to do with the mission.

It could be the location, the time, the men sent out there- Worst case scenario? A few of those soldiers could have been instructed to commit suicide and kill as many others as possible while doing so while carrying written orders supposedly given by Izaya.

Or something messed up along those lines.

Ah-

Feeling his body grow tense, Izaya's thoughts stopped shortly.

A titan.

One had appeared down the wall. Shizu-chan´s group had spotted it and they were now swarming to kill it.

Feeling his hands clutch the armrests Izaya couldn't help but feel a spike of fear. Countless possibilities of what could go wrong, what Shiki could have initiated crossed his mind in seconds- only for nothing to happen.

One of the soldiers beheaded the titan, laughingly accurate to their guidebook he had to add.

The head flew off- and the titan was dead. No second one appeared nothing-

The troup continued with their orders and Izaya's hands released the armrest along with the deep breath he hadn't realized he had held.

Not yet. Seemed this wasn't part of Shiki´s plan yet.

… thinking about it there was no way Shiki would give any soldier orders like he had assumed earlier. Too many witnesses. His superior wasn't the kind of man who would act in a way that could be traced back to his person.

Lips touching his knuckles, the raven's eyes narrowed.

But then why? Why order for Izaya to lead this more or less useless mission? Why place him up here? Letting his eyes trail to the two soldiers left by his side the idea of assasination struck him.

Maybe Shiki had ordered them to simply kill Izaya in a moment of chaos or inattention.

The second he saw their expressions, however, it was quite clear that was also not the case. Their eyes were glued to the battlefield and the terror from seeing just one titan written across their faces. If anything they seemed ready to bail, not to kill anyone- typical for the garnison only in charge of protecting the wall. They never had to move out- so they were probably the last likely to have been instructed with any special orders.

Again a titan appeared and Izaya's attention diverted- this time it was two even. One emerged behind a destroyed house, dragging a smaller one right after. No abnormals though. Just simple smaller class titans. It just needed a small group of three to eliminate them just around as quickly as the first had been taken care of.

All in all this mission- was actually going well.

The soldiers had spread to close to a third of the area- Kadota´s group was all in front as they had been instructed to examine that hole in Wall Maria. Shizu-chan´s group was a bit more behind, seeing as most titans were lurking closer to Wall- of course. Those monsters were drawn to human activity. It was only natural they were gathering here.

There were more than expected too- not too many to be overwhelmed, but a lot nonetheless. Seeing as Shizu-chan´s group consisted of barely a handful of members it unsettled the raven quite a bit.

"Hey, you two," Izaya spoke, addressing his two guards.

"Y-yes sir?"

Wow, stuttering already? They were not going to be of much help- but still, even they possessed a pair of useful eyes.

"More titans have arisen. To ensure everyone's safety I order you two to join the scouting party."

Just in case.

After all, there was a possibility this was nothing but a show of power- and how could his superior demonstrate his supremacy better than by causing his closest allies to die? All in front Kadota and his group of course, as it was written in their records that Izaya had practically spent half their childhood together.

But Kadota was smart, he and Yumasaki and Karisawa were not going to die easily. So Shizu-chan was at a much more imminent risk.

Glances were exchanged, and for a second Izaya thought those two would actually run away- it was just that obvious how terrified they were by the idea. But they didn't.

"Yes, sir!" And with that they went down the wall.

Good.

With this, everything seemed in control.

While Kadota´s group was growing more and more distant there were also more and more titans falling near the wall.

… had he just underestimated the importance of the mission? Judging by its simplicity and rash upbringing he had thought Shiki had to have ulterior motives. But actually it wasn't half bad.

The area around wall Sheena was becoming safer by the second due to them taking some titans out. Seeing as the place wasn't too swarmed with them in the first place they were also a great distraction for Kadota´s group to advance.

Seeing as the sun was almost done setting it was getting much harder to see. While Kadota and his group would advance to the broken wall Maria, secured by the nightfall, the rest would simply withdraw and stand ready for when they returned. In other words: The mission was almost over- at least Izaya's and the scouting troop´s part.

A wave of relief hit the raven as he came to this conclusion. This was it? That's what he had gotten all worked up over? It was almost laughable really. Honestly- maybe Shiki had never planned to act, maybe this was just one huge mindgame to him and his only goal was to make Izaya think he was going to execute something grand.

Would suit his personality too, to just torture him with "what ifs".

Letting his head thud backwards he gazed at the purple sky. At least that meant they were safe.

Well, Shizu-chan and him that is. Kadota was still out there, but Izaya heavily doubted Shiki had planned anything that went beyond the walls.

Reaching for his crutches he got up from the chair once more.

He would give them twenty minutes to secure the area before ordering them back from their first at least half successful mission.

Letting his gaze trail across the area he could spot his troops every here and there- a few titans were being beheaded but nothing out of control.

Stepping to the edge of the wall his eyes squinted to search for Shizu-chan- and froze.

Just right there his body turned to stone and his blood ran cold- his sight was still directed towards the battlefield- but it was the corner of his eyes that had shot a shudder down his spine as he noticed a pair of eyes, larger than a humans´, stare at him from underneath the tarpaulin.

to be continued
