*A/N: I do not own Naruto, if I did, Naruto would've ended up with Sasuke and would have had lots of…um, nevermind hahaha…hehehehe….MUHAHAHAHAHAHAH.*
Chapter 3: Seed in the Darkness Part 2
Konoha Ninja Academy: Training Field
Hinata was watching as some of the students of the academy are tested for their taijutsu abilities by the sensei to gauge how they should be trained in the future. Hinata feels slightly nervous due to her not being very fluent in the Hyuuga fighting style but she is also feeling confident in her ability to at least handle some of the civilian-born children. However when it comes to a few of the clan kids, "Am I able to go against someone like Kiba or Sasuke? I don't know but I think Sasuke is the best fighter here, at least for now." Said Hinata in her thoughts as she watches the current match between two civilian students come to an end.
"Winner, Tetsuo Ren!" Shouted Iruka Umino, the sensei, and proctor of the sparring match. "Next, Naruto Uzumaki and Choji Akamichi!" With that, Naruto shouts, "YOUR GOING DOWN CHOJI!" He and Choji make their way to the ring to start the match. "Are you two ready?" Asked Iruka. "HAI!" Said Naruto and Choji together. "THIRD MATCH, NARUTO UZUMAKI AND CHOJI AKAMICHI, BEGIN!" Yelled Iruka as he stepped back to watch the match as Shikamaru quietly cheered Choji from the sidelines.
Naruto rushes forward without a real plan as Choji nervously prepares his defense. Naruto swings his right hand in a rough haymaker, as Choji dodges with some space. Naruto, by putting so much of his energy into that one punch, stumbles forward for a few inches. Choji, seeing this, pauses out of concern for not wanting to hurt a fellow future comrade. With this happening, Naruto has the time to steady himself, turns, then rushes back a Choji with another fist reared back for a strike. Choji, out of shock and panic, turns around and bends over slightly to cover himself from Naruto's attack. Once again, Naruto put slightly too much force in his attack, and due to his momentum, he cannot stop himself from colliding with Choji's, um, plump rear end, thus sending the poor blond out of the ring and into a nearby bush.
Hinata, along with the rest of the genin hopefuls, stares in utter disbelief at what just transpired. "Uh, what was that? Is Naruto OK?" Asked Hinata internally with a record-breaking sweatdrop. "That idiot." Said a certain emo rock band reject while the rest of the class laughs uproariously, even the ever stoic Shino raises his eyebrows in surprise. Iruka sighs at the event and quiets down the class. He looks over at Naruto, who just got out of the bush and is picking branches from his hair as Choji apologizes profusely. He sighs again and announces, "Winner, Choji Akamichi!" "Next match, HINATA HYUUGA AND KIBA INUZUKA!" Hinata, hearing this, starts feeling slightly nervous, remembering that Kiba is from a clan that perhaps may be close to the Hyuuga clan in terms of taijutsu prowess when not including the Uchiha. She readies herself as a memory of her declaration from this morning fills her with newfound determination as she makes her way to the ring. "OI, IRUKA SENSEI YOU FORGOT AKAMARU!" Yelled Kiba in indignation from his teacher forgetting to also announce his loyal companion. Iruka chuckles a bit in embarrassment and says, "Hinata Hyuuga versus Kiba Inuzuka and Akamaru!"
Konoha Ninja Academy Training Field: Hinata's POV
I stand in front of Kiba and Akamaru in the standard gentle fist stance with slight unease. Not that much unease about my opponent and my ability to beat him, but more so out of unease about my stance. It feels….not right….as if I am in the wrong body or….like a puppet who's aware that they are controlled. With this in mind, a thought comes to me as Kiba readies himself. "A puppet aware that it is controlled?" I ask myself in my head as a new idea comes. I slightly shift my stance into a new one suited for fluid movement and dodges instead of straightforward attacks as Iruka sensei looks at me slightly confusedly. "Are you ready?" He asks as I nod in confirmation. Kiba then follows up and nods to show his readiness. Iruka nods then shouts, "HINATA HYUUGA VERSUS KIBA AND AKAMARU, BEGIN!"
With that being said, Kiba rushes forward with Akamaru at the ready as I activate by byakugan. My blood starts rushing as excitement with a little nervousness rushes through me as I ready myself for his attack. When Kiba entered my space, he swung his right hand in a sort of feral attack as I dodge narrowly. I see Akamaru leap out after Kiba's attack, ready to bite my leg as I then nimbly move out of the way. As I was distracted by Akamaru, Kiba took the opening and launches a punch with his left from my side. In answer, I lean far backward narrowly missing his fist, in an almost cat-like backbend stance, as I then answer with my left palm, shutting down several chakra points in his left arm. Akamaru, seeing another opening, quickly rushes towards me from behind as I see him within the near 360-degree range of my ocular powers. I then straighten myself up and rolled out of the way, but not in time, since Kiba took the time to land a glancing blow to my right side, causing me to wince in pain as Akamaru barely misses the spot I was in moments ago.
Breathing slightly tiredly, I ready myself for the next attack, as Kiba rushes forward again, this time with Akamaru on his back on all fours. Taking the initiative, I also rush forward with my right palm at my side pointed upward. Kiba and I reach each other, as he goes for a left haymaker, while I duck under and go for his left leg. I then try to shut down a few more chakra points, but I had to back away due to Akamaru launching himself at my left side. While being distracted, I didn't have time to react to Kiba's left knee connecting with my solar plexus with enough force to knock the air out of me thus leaving me open to another attack. With the opening Kiba launches a right hook to my chest which also connects and causes me to collapse onto my side, spitting out a bit of saliva while I tried to catch my breath. As I look back up, Akamaru is staring back at me in my face while growling. I then felt a weight on my lower back as Kiba kneeled on my back with his fist stretched, aimed at the back of my neck. "THAT WAS A GOOD FIGHT HINATA, YOU GAVE ME AND AKAMARU A TOUGH TIME!" Said Kiba, loudly while breathing hard himself. I slightly chuckled as Iruka announces the winner of our match. Kiba got up and then stretched his hand out. I took his hand without hesitation and said, "Thanks Kiba-kun, next time it will be harder for you." I said with a smirk, slightly high off of adrenaline as Kiba beamed, "OI, YOU GOT IT HINATA-CHAN!" Kiba said with determination. We both made our way back to the sidelines, while I was nursing the side where Kiba landed that knee.
The fights continued as I recovered from the spar. "Wow, I wouldn't have been able to keep up with him using the stances father taught me, He might have won in the first few seconds," I said in thought in a calculated manner as I watch the two fangirls try slapping one another. "Maybe Father is right able me and our fighting style, I can't use it, it never felt natural, almost like I was swimming in mud or something." "Perhaps I have to create my style, one that fits me better, but Father wouldn't agree, he will just force me to learn the traditional style or put me into the side branch to be a servant." I thought in despair and trepidation. I sigh as I turn back to watch the two girls pulling each other's hair as Iruka tries to break it up.
After the Academy: Hinata's POV
On my walk back to the compound, being escorted by Ko, I could help but think of the current situation that I am in. Try to learn the fighting style my Father insists on me and that I can simply not do because it feels…wrong….to me or try to learn my own style only to be disowned for being a failure and get put in the side branch to be a servant and have the caged bird seal placed on me like brother Neji. Father will not accept it if I was to try to learn my own style, most of the clan doesn't have this problem, at least I don't think so. The more I think about it, the closer I get to tears as I try to keep up a facade of stoicism while around the village populous. Ko, being a jonin and a high-ranking Hyuuga branch member, was able to spot the slight downcast look that my mask is failing to hide, and asks if I am okay. "O-oh, I'm fine, I'm just thinking about some assignments from the academy," I said as I mustered up a fake smile on my face. Ko looks at me questioningly but does not ask further out of respect. Instead, he puts a reassuring hand on my shoulder for a few moments then continues walking with me. Having felt comforted like this for probably the first time in so long, I couldn't help but smile back at Ko genuinely as I turn back forward to focus on the path we are walking on, I silently thank him for being so understanding and not forcing me to answer as we near the entrance to the compound.
Hyuuga Compound: Hinata's POV
Ko and I finally reached the entrance of the compound seeing the two guards standing at the ready, looking slightly rough as if they were running around recently. A puzzled look crossed my face as I looked at Ko, he also looks back at me with an equally questioning face. He turned to one of the guards and asked if everything was okay. The guard, who is a female with the name of Yuki if I can remember, tensed up slightly as I notice a small rose tint to her cheeks as she states, "N-nothing is t-the problem, it's just that, um." The guard trailed off as Ko looked even more confused. Yuki continued, "Y-you should probably go see Hiashi sama, Ko san, Hinata sama."
At this point, both I and Ko were at peak confusion as we nodded and headed towards the main house with the intent to get an idea of what had the guards so razzled. After a bit of time, Ko and I enter the office of my father, only to see him sitting, hands clamped under his nose while elbows were on his desk, with a stone-cold face that was made less intimidating with the small blush on his cheeks along with the redness in his ears and twitching eyebrows. He gazed at me and said, "Hinata, our training will be slightly delayed as we figure out who broke into our compound to steal our….undergarments, you may wait in your room until further instruction." After hearing this, an atomic blush followed by another massive sweatdrop forms for the umpteenth time on this day as I respond, "Y-y-yes father," as I walk out of the office towards my room in absolute shock until a thought hits me.
"MY NOTEBOOK!" I yelled in thought as I started rushing to my room at a quicker pace, nimbly dodging fellow clan members who are also rushing about. I promptly arrived at my safe haven, quickly closed the door, and ran straight for the top drawer of my nightstand to the left of my bed. I opened it to see my once neatly folded panties now thrown about out of order and a hint of my notebook at the bottom of the mess. I moved some of my underwear out of the way, then grabbed my notebook, which looked completely fine. A feeling of relief washes over me as I opened to the last song I managed to finish the other day and see it is in perfect order. I then moved to sit down on my bed while flipping the pages to my mother's unfinished song written on a folded piece of loose paper that I had stuffed into my notebook for when I wanted to finish it. I sigh in relief to see that the paper is still there, I then looked about my room only to see my window slightly cracked.
With another sigh, I close my notebook and place it down on my bed where I sat then made my way to my window. I looked out of my window, to the sides where I can see some clan members returning to the front gate with what looked like something pink in their hands. I blinked, blinked again, then again, then one more time, as I then sighed once more for the one-hundredth time. I then decided I needed a break from today as I closed my window, pulled my curtains shut, then made my way to my bed only to fall face-first onto my soft blanket with a loud groan. Not bothering to take off my sweatshirt, I drift off into unconsciousness.
Hyuuga Compound: Hiashi's Office
"Something orange you said?" Asked an utterly confused and flustered Hyuuga Ko, who was also ready to bolt to his room the check if the perpetrator of this mess managed to steal his precious 'Icha Icha' collection underneath his secret stash of lingerie. "Precisely, however, they seemed to escape out of the vision of our guards even with the byakugan activated, all they managed to see was something short and orange." Said a thoroughly pissed Hiashi Hyuuga. "Since today is Friday and Hinata will not be going back to the academy until Monday, you are temporarily released from your duty of guarding her until then, for now, you along with Haru, Daichi, Sora, Kenji, Kaito, and Yuki will be guarding our perimeters while searching for any possible weaknesses in our defenses, if you find any, report back to me immediately. On Sunday, you are to work alongside, Haruka, Akemi, Kenji, and Yuki to bolster the security seals within our clan house, am I understood?"
"Hai, Hiashi sama," Ko replied. Hiashi nodded and commanded, "Your new orders begin immediately, you are dismissed." Ko bowed deeply and then left the office as Hiashi quietly stews in his anger and embarrassment. "How could some lowlife dare to enter our grounds without invitation and soil our reputation, this will not go unpunished." He said in his thoughts as he got up to go meet with the Hokage to launch an investigation into this manner. After the Kumo incident, coming into the Hyuuga compound or any other compound without permission is a quick way to get the higher-ups of Konoha involved. Hiashi then left his office bounding towards the office of the leader of Konoha.
Konoha: Hokage Tower
Hiruzen Sarutobi, the professor, third Hokage to the village of Konohagakure, and the leader of the said village through two shinobi world wars was currently nursing a headache as he stared at the Hokage monument carved into the side of a hill at the far side of the village proper. "I'm getting too old for this shit." He said with a sigh as he puffed smoke from his pipe, silently cursing whoever had the nerve to infiltrate the Hyuuga compound again, especially after the whole fiasco with Kumo several years ago.
He turned as he heard a knock on his door. "Enter!" He commented with hard-earned authority worthy of his position despite his old age as he sits down at his desk and pushes a stack of paperwork to the side. Hiashi Hyuuga finally enters the room, face set in the typical Hyuuga stone face, as he makes his way to stand in front of the Hokage. He then bows deeply at the waist, showing proper respect to the leader of his village and the man known as 'Kami no Shinobi'. "Hokage sama, I'm sure you already know why I'm here so I will not waste your time with the back story, however, I believe I have a few hints to whoever infiltrated our compound," Hiashi said. "Speak, let me hear what evidence you present." Commanded Hiruzen. Hiashi cleared his throat before speaking, "Our primary gate guards, Kota and Yuki reported to me roughly at 3 pm today that when they activated our clan's doujutsu due to hearing a slight disturbance, they manage to see something small and orange running away in the direction of the village center." Said Hiashi.
Hearing this, Hiruzen had to muster up all of his experience and years as a shinobi and leader of one of the strongest villages, to prevent a loud, tired sigh and groan to escape him due to him now having a firm idea of the culprit. With a barely managed stoic face he replies, "Is this all of the information you have?" "Yes, Sir, at least for now." Said Hiashi. "I see, small and orange, I believe I have an idea about the culprit since he is the only one in our village who wears bright orange, I will bring him in for questioning, if he is found guilty, he will be punished accordingly." Said Hiruzen. Hiashi, understanding the subtle hint that he was dismissed, promptly bowed then left the office bounding back to the compound to start Hinata's training. "Dammit, Naruto, why do you have to cause me so much pain, why, why, why do you have to bring upon me so much damned paperwork!" Hiruzen yells out with a river of anime tears flowing out. The hidden ANBU sweatdrop and chuckle as a purple, long-haired ANBU appears in front of her leader on one knee with her fist on the floor. "Hokage sama, permission to capture Naruto Uzumaki and bring him in for questioning?" Hiruzen, getting control of himself, nodded in confirmation as the purple-haired ANBU disappeared with swirling leaves being left where she once stood.
Hyuuga Compound: Hinata's POV
I awoke from my short nap to hear knocks at my door. I yawned then stretched and got up making my way to my door. I then opened my door only to see my father, looking back at me with an emotionless stare. "It is almost time for your training, be ready in 1 hour." He commanded then glanced around slightly at my room, spotting my notebook that I left on my bed before going to sleep. "Yes, sir," I respond half-heartedly, completely missing his glances around my room and the slight pause as he saw my notebook, then he walked away. I closed my door and sighed in frustration remembering how I fought against Kiba using a looser style that I thought of on the spot, trying to go with what felt natural to me at the time. A sense of dread filled me as I also remember the kind of man my father is, and that he will not allow me to learn any other form except for the traditional style which focuses on straightforward attacks and rigid blocks and dodges.
"Maybe I just need to get better at the traditional style, he won't let me learn any other way," I said quietly. "I should go to our clan's library to see if there are any tips. With that thought, I go to put on my training outfit, then leave my room dodging an excited Hanabi as she greets me after I walk out of my room. "SISTER HINATA, ARE YOU TRAINING AGAIN, CAN YOU PLEASE PLAY?" She shouts. I shake my head and respond, "I'm sorry Hanabi-chan, I'm about to go training, I'll have to play later, is that okay?" I asked with a slight downcast tone at the fact that I'm not able to play with her much since entering the academy. "Hai, hai," Hanabi replies with a pout. I chuckle as I pat her head, "I may have time later, and aren't you suppose to be napping?" I ask in a sly tone. "U-u-um, w-w-well, y-y-y-y-you know, u-um, BYE I GOT TO GO, WE'LL PLAY LATER!" Hanabi shouts as she runs off down the hall to who knows where. I chuckle again, then start on my way to our clan's library to see if I'm able to get any advice from the multitude of scrolls and books we have.
Hyuuga Compound: Clan Library
I made my way into the conveniently empty library, probably due to the chaos still going on around the compound. I look around at the modest size of the room, roughly the size of my room, if not slightly larger. Scrolls and books everywhere in an organized manner labeled A to Z. There are a few leather armchairs about the room and a couple of desks for reading or writing. I walk deeper into the room and look around, gazing at the different titles of the books and scrolls. 'Chakra Control Excersices', 'Human Anatomy', 'Chakra Theory and the History of Chakra', 'The Art of War by Sun Tzu', 'Ramen Recpies for Bakas by Kushina'. I looked at many different interesting books as I picked out a few for a quick read before I have to go to training. I picked up, 'Chakra Control Excersices', and 'Chakra Theory and the History of Chakra'. I then glanced at 'The Art of War by Sun Tzu, I could read that later after training. I continued my search until I found a scroll with a layer of dust on it on the third shelf that is roughly at the height of the top of my head.
'Lost Ways of the Enlightened Man' it said. I looked at the dusty scroll in confusion, our clan library does have some fiction material for the entertainment of some of our members, but this looks out of place in the section for the history of the Hyuuga clan. I looked to the nearest desk which was to my right, I then sat the books that I was carrying down to try to get the scroll that intrigued me. I reached up to grab the scroll and brought it near my face to blow the dust off. After clearing the dust, with better clarity the scroll read, 'The Lost Ways of the Enlightened Man by Miu Hyuuga'. I looked at the scroll in slight shock, it is not very common for members of our clan to write fiction titles as a hobby. Many members of our clan would rather garden, cook, or do something called yoga.
I went to sit down at the desk I placed my books on then opened the scroll. At first sight, all I saw were a few paragraphs, as I started reading it said, "To whom reads this, I warn you. The Hyuuga clan has been segregated not only just out of selfish greed and fear but to prevent the reactivation of the Byakugan no Shiroi Me. The branch house and main house feel too much hatred for one another, and love is very scarce in the clan, one member is born even seconds before the next from the same mother, but the one born after is the one who is enslaved by the firstborn, thus preventing the activation of the next level of the Byakugan. The last time the Byakugan no Shiori Me was activated was sometime during the warring clans period roughly three millennia ago by an only child. The name has been forgotten throughout history. What is known is that this child existed hundreds of years before the legendary duo Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha and a couple of hundred years after the death of the sage of six paths. This only child had been broken but was able to find love to heal their heart and reach balance."
After reading that I sat in complete shock. "N-n-NEXT LEVEL?!" "But, how, why?" I said in surprise. I then kept reading. "It is said that to activate the Byakugan no Shiroi Me, one must be at a balance between hatred and love, to have a love for people or things, and to have equal hatred or rage towards actions done by others or other people. One can be angry at the people one may love and one may love the people who commit hateful actions. The Yin and Yang, are not just good and bad, but the little good in bad and the little bad in good. One must also already have the byakugan activated or be of Hyuuga descent who are direct descendants of Hamura Otsutsuki. It is known that to activate the Mangekyou Sharingan, one must experience extreme emotions, usually mourning a close friend or family. However, for us, the noble Hyuuga, we must seek and obtain emotional balance and tranquility. This may be done through meditation, which is said that is how the previous wielder did it, however, it can be activated by doing things or being around people that you love, while also forcing yourself to do things or being around people that you hate or feel anger towards. Reaching a balance of those emotions is what will likely activate the Byakugan no Shiroi Me."
I sat frozen in my seat. I was never told about this next level, my father only said that the regular byakugan itself is already a gift from Kami. "Yin and Yang," I said in confusion as a thought then struck me. I sat up and then moved the left sleeve of my training shirt to see the famous Hyuuga clan symbol, the Yin and Yang.
End of Chapter
A/N: What's up y'all, I have to leave you on a cliffhanger. You are probably surprised at the sudden introduction of the 'Byakugan no Shiroi Me', so I will explain my reasoning. Firstly, I personally wished that the Hyuuga's had some sort of upgraded version of the Byakugan that is not related to the Otsutsuki's like the Tenseigan and the Jougan. Almost like how the Mangekyo Sharingan is for the Uchiha's, I wished that the Hyuuga's also had some super cool power-ups to complement their overall style. The original title for this fanfic was actually 'Hinata of the Jougan' which I was, as you can guess, originally intending on writing Hinata getting the Jougan somehow and going on to open up a gluten-free, organic can of whoop ass on some Akatsuki pricks, but, then I thought that it would be a better idea to give her an upgrade, but not related to some aliens with too much time on their hands. I may use the jougan idea at some point in the future on different fanfic, but with this one, I wanted to be more original.
For the sake of not spoiling anything, I will not yet explain the abilities of the Byakugan no Shiroi Me, you will want to look out for chapter three for that. But I will say that some of the abilities may be seen as OP, but you have to remember that in canon, with a base Sharingan, the user had access to Izunami and Izunagi, which can completely rewrite reality mind you. The upgrades given by the Mangekyo Sharingan were just icing on the cake in terms of OP-ness. And if anyone is still hearing from the first chapter, I did change the summary of this story from Dark Hinata to Grey Hinata with the introduction of the idea of the Byakugan no Shiroi Me. I've already mentioned that Hinata will not be like canon and I will try to write her with a bit more development and overall character dynamic, instead of a blushing, fainting, cute, shy wallflower. She will still be reserved but not out of insecurity, but out of being an overall introverted character who is also deeply affected by the harsh treatment of her clan. Oh and yes, she will still be cute. Hinata in this story will at some points be more ruthless than in canon adding to trying to be balanced in terms of energy.
Anyway, I am not gonna spoil too much, leave a review and I will continue to improve my writing and will eventually be making more fanfiction since I'm enjoying it a lot along with the positive feedback. Anyways, I'm done here, Katomi Misamoto signing off.
