Dran's POV
Time skip: Next day.
After the success of the day before, Dran decided that he would regain his energy before experimenting with magic any further.
After he got up, he made himself a hearty breakfast of roots and dried meat boiled down into a thick soup with some fresh meat fried on a hot stone next to the fire.
After the warm meal, Dran decided that it was time to get back to his experiments.
With his success from the day before, he knew that it wouldn't make sense to work through the process the same way as he was doing before. No, he would try to reproduce the exact same thing that he had done the day before.
Drake gathered many stones of the same size as the day before, and instead of doing them in batches like before, he would instead do them one at a time.
He knew that to do it the exact same way as the day before, he would have to get into the same mindset as he was in when he did it the first time.
First, Dran thought about what he had done the first time he successfully enchanted something.
His mind was focused; he was thinking of the need for protection against the biting cold and his emotions were determined to successfully enchant the stone with magic. The words he chanted were simple, but precise in their meaning, and the runes were focused on one thing - that he was familiar with the cold and the need for protection from it, and their ability to resist against its biting touch.
With all of that in his mind Dran began to replicate what he had done before, the first two times he failed because he was too excited and didn't have the right mindset. The third time he failed because wasn't determined but anticipatory for the magic to succeed, causing him to fail again.
But he was not discouraged from his failures after all he had spent months doing nothing but failing after all.
Not wanting to waste time he decided to take a short break to calm and focus his mind, getting into the right mindset.
After calming down Dran focused his mind and tried again and this time he succeeded, after he went outside to check if it would work after replicating the same thing again.
When he confirmed that it did work he got the first stone and checked it again, after he did this Dran noticed something the stone he had created first gave slightly more protection from the cold. Compared with the he just made the first one's protection from the cold, provided almost twice the protection from the cold then the second one.
having discovered this dran decided to create many more stones with runes that protected from the cold so that he could discover what the hidden variables that he did not know of were
deciding this Duran made another 45 protection stones out of the 45 Stones he attempted to enchant only 15 were successful the other 30 were no more useful than gravel off the ground
wanting to know what caused the differences in the amount of protection the stones provided strand decided to arrange them from least to most, depending on how much protection they provided from the cold
after doing so he first compared the two stones with the weakest and the strongest protection, upon doing so dran discovered that the weakest one was almost three times weaker than the strongest, while interesting this did not provide Brian with much knowledge so next he decided that he would discover what the average amount of protection for the stones were, after doing so he discovered that the middle 10 provided almost the same amount of protection as each other wow the other seven provided more or less, after discovering the average amount of protection he would get from the way he created them now, dran now wanted to find out what caused the others to be so much weaker or so much stronger than the rest, to do so the first sat down and contemplated his mindset throughout the day after a while he came to the conclusion that besides slight changes in his concentration not many things were different, next he inspected each Stone for differences in the ruins that he carved, because even though they were all the same rooms it was almost impossible to carve them identically upon doing this dram discovered a few things on the average ones most of their rooms were almost identical with the weaker ones the runes carved into them had many imperfections and were inconsistent throughout, the stronger ones had far fewer imperfections and were far more consistent
Discovering this Grand was relieved seeing as this was something he could improve upon, but knowing that that was not the only variable that made some stronger than others but not knowing how to discover what the other variables were,Dran decided it was better to Simply continue improving and learn as he practiced. The next day Dran paused. after spending a few more days creating more stones dran discovered a fatal problem with stones they did not warm the surrounding area simply lessened the effect cold had on the body, upon discovering this drain was slightly disappointed because while the stone was useful it did not have as many uses as he believed they had.,., after days of crafting dran had to improved his crafting speed and rate of success, instead of the one out of three he had before he was now successfully creating one every other attempt but he'd run into a problem while strong for his age Duran was not fully mature and did not want to stunt his growth by not getting enough exercise and spending all day draining his blood to enchant stones,. Duran was also beginning to feel and increasingly more painful sensation in his chest in the beginning it was simply adult ache easily ignored, But as time to passed the ache in his chest became increasingly hard to ignore until on the 5th day of enchanting he could barely concentrate on what he was doing because of how strong the pain in his chest had become, it felt like there was a heavy iron ball with heated spikes constantly stabbing into his chest, and while it improved his pain tolerance Duran was not stupid enough to continue using Magic to the point of permanently injuring himself, drain theorized that since it was a different type of Magic and because he had never used it before that he was feeling the effects of over taxing his body and Magic, knowing that the body needed to rest so that it could heal dry and decided to spend the next few days only practicing with his weapons, and not using any magic, while not knowing much about how Magic affected the body besides the fact that it was in the blood and the Heart tongue and reproductive organs had a higher concentration of magic. because of this brand new he would have to discover such knowledge on his lonesome, because the only people that dran knew of that would have such knowledge worthy disgraced maester Tavern tyburn, warlocks and sorcerers from essos. none of which he could require any knowledge from nor get in contact with them. because of this Duran could only theorize that however he used Magic it would be like a muscle the more you used and exercised it the stronger it would grow, or it could simply be a stagnant pool that simply refilled every time you used it or if it depended on your surroundings and how much ambient Magic was around you, it could even be all three at the same time sadly Durand did not have the knowledge nor a way to discover how it worked. time skip transpose after spending 3 days doing nothing but practicing eating and resting to regain his strength the dull ache in his chest finally disappeared, even though the air conditioners disappeared Duran didn't immediately continue to craft now instead he decided that he was going to go on a hunting trip so that he could store more food in case of harsher weather. with that in mind Duran grabbed his hunting bow, two tracking glass daggers a few Stone daggers and a small ax and enough perishable to last multiple days after preparing, Duran decided to leave his goats in the cave and only bring his eagle with him, he also brought three of his most powerful Enchanted stones just in case one of them what's damaged. Having collected everything he would need, he set out in a Southwestern Direction, not wanting to run into any Thenns, or any other free Folk, Dran decided to travel through the mountains and stay away from the easie paths.
