Aliya kept her head down for the next two weeks at not only the suggestion of Leon and Helena, but also the fact that everyone kept talking about the fight that she and Logan had. She tried not to pay any mind to the whispers she heard as she walked through the halls .
Since the fight with Logan, she had become increasingly tired and she hoped that the testing on the medication for her would be done by now. Aliya knew that she would need it soon; she had been increasingly irritable and kept falling asleep in class which caused several phone calls home.
"Hey," Trevor starts, turning to face her as their teacher wrote on the board and they read their textbooks.
"What?"
"So, my older cousin lives down the road from me and he is having a party next weekend for his birthday and he said I could bring a friend so I was wondering if you wanted to come with me?"
Aliya thought for a moment, "is there going to be a grownup there?"
Trevor shrugged, "my aunt trusts him, so no there's not. She's going to be out of town."
"Thanks but my parents definitely won't let me."
"Who says they have to know?" He asks, getting a mischievous look in his blue eyes.
"Are you saying that I should sneak out?" She asks, gawking at him. She knew sneaking out would be difficult with someone watching their house 24/7.
Trevor shrugged, "maybe I am. I'm not saying that you should, but I'm also not saying that you shouldn't."
Aliya laughed, "I'll try."
"Hey, quiet you two or I'll have to separate you." Ms. Watson says, finally hearing their conversation as she briefly turned to look over from the white board.
"Sorry Ms. Watson." The kids both said simultaneously, looking at their teacher apologetically, making her nod and return to what she was writing on the board.
"So, you never told me. Were your parents pissed about the fight?"
"Nah. They were kind of proud actually."
Trevor gawked at her, "really? I thought your mom would be pissed because no offense but she scares me more than your dad does."
Aliya giggled, "no quite the opposite actually. They only cared that I did not start it."
Trevor laughed and returned back to his work until the final bell rang and they could finally close their books and leave for the day. The two stopped at their lockers that happened to be side by side and grabbed the rest of their things before heading out to the car. It was their tradition at this point for Helena to pick them up and bring them back to their house for Trevor to hang out doing homework until either his mom picked him up or Leon or Helena would drive him home.
"How was school?" Helena asks, looking back at the two as they entered the car, and she started driving them back to their house.
"Same as always. Everyone still thinks that I am psycho."
Helena chuckled and rolled her eyes as Aliya looked around, noticing Leon's phone in the center console.
"Hey, why is Dad's phone here?" She asks, reaching to pick it up, taking a moment to guess his passcode and successfully unlocking it.
"Oh, I'm not sure but I'll give it to him when we get back. He must have left it in here after we went for coffee this morning. He did not go to work today."
Aliya raised an eyebrow, "why not?"
Helena shrugged, trying not to show her annoyance at the questions, "vacation day maybe? I don't know."
Aliya nodded and continued snooping through Leon's phone until Helena noticed and snatched it out of her hands.
"We raised you better than that! There's stuff in there not for children to see about his work!"
"What? Maybe there's messages to a certain someone about a certain coworker."
Helena rolled her eyes, knowing exactly what she was getting at and put the phone back down while Trevor stared at the two of them from the back seat, thoroughly confused by the interaction.
"Ok but can I at least be the one to give him his phone?" She asks as they pulled into the driveway, Helena looking at her suspiciously.
"I guess that would be okay." Helena says slowly, getting out of the car with Trevor.
Aliya waited until Helena was out of sight as she got out of the car and took Leon's phone again, looking through the messages between him and Ada until she found exactly what she was looking for and took screenshots. Aliya sent the screenshots to her own phone and then deleted the screenshots and the messages from his own phone and going into the house.
"Hey dad, you left your phone in moms car." Aliya says, handing the phone to Leon and then going up to her room with Trevor.
"Oh I didn't realize that I left it in there." He says, taking a minute to register what just happened as he looked at Helena.
Helena chuckled as she grabbed herself a glass of water and went to sit down across from him, "so any word on that thing?" She asks curiously, her phone buzzing with texts from Aliya.
"Yeah, it turns out that it is legit and they will find a way to make more and even a permanent solution for her to constantly be receiving the medication so that we don't have to remember to give it to her. It'll be at the office for her for whenever she feels like she needs it."
"That's good," she nods as she finally opened the messages on her phone and choked on her water as she read them. She hadn't expected to actually get proof that Leon cared about her.
"You okay?" Leon asks, looking at her in concern.
Helena nodded, reading the messages between him and Ada, him telling Ada to stop contacting him and that he wanted Helena.
Leon watched as Helena was fixated on her phone and eventually got up, rushing to the bathroom to collect her thoughts. Her heart was beating a mile a minute, unsure of why she felt so panicked over this since she had wanted to know this information for the last several months. Helena took a couple of minutes, taking deep breaths and collecting herself enough to finally leave the bathroom.
"Hey everything okay?" Leon asks, getting up and approaching her finally.
Helena didn't know how to express what she was feeling in words so she did the only other thing that she could think of.
She leaned in and kissed him.
Leon kissed her back, pushing her against the wall and putting his hands on her waist, the two finally pulling away after a moment to catch their breath, Leon resting his forehead against hers.
"Is that your answer?" He asks, finally speaking after a moment of silence between the two.
"Yeah. It is."
"What changed your mind?"
"Aliya, believe it or not. She kept pestering me and told me that it was worth trying out and that it doesn't have to lead to anything huge like marriage or kids right away."
"You know I wouldn't pressure you into that." He explains, giving her a gentler kiss on the lips.
Helena nodded, "because I would like that at some point…just not anytime too soon."
Leon smiled, "I can live with that."
Helena chuckled and pressed her lips against his again and Leon pushed her back up against the wall. At some point the two ended up in the bedroom, their clothes thrown all over the ground.
"You know, we seem to always end up like this."
Leon chuckled as he kissed her forehead, sighing in annoyance as his phone rang and he reluctantly went to answer it.
"Hunnigan? What's up?" He asks, putting the phone on speaker for Helena to hear.
"We found C.A.T. Co."
