Helena was in the hospital for an additional week before she was allowed to leave, and she was grateful to finally be able to sleep in her own bed. She had been given strict instructions not to lift anything heavy and she had to rest for the next six to eight weeks.
Helena wasn't happy about these instructions but there wasn't anything she could do unless she wanted to rip her stitches and end up in the hospital again. Since arriving home, Aliya had refused to sleep in her own bed and Leon allowed her to sleep in bed with Helena and the dog wedged herself between the two girls every night. Leon had officially been kicked out of their bed, but he was fine with that if it meant that Aliya and Helena were safe and sound. He was stuck sleeping on the floor of their bedroom on an air mattress that he had bought.
Keeping Helena confined to bed had proved to be a challenge because Helena hated being doted on and it caused many a fight between the two, but Leon could be just as stubborn as Helena and eventually Helena just gave up fighting.
Carla came over in her own free time to check Helena's wound and help change the bandages every couple of days, which Leon and Helena appreciated. Since her conversation with Helena, she made it a point to be home with Trevor more and had changed her schedule so that she didn't work as many overnight shifts. Aliya was happier now that she didn't have to hide who they were from Trevor and his mom, and she was glad that C.A.T. Co seemed to be done for.
Aliya was helping Leon cook breakfast when there was a knock on the door, and she excitedly went to answer it to discover Trevor.
"Hey!" she says excitedly, hugging her friend. Leon was surprised that Trevor still came over as often as he did before finding out about his dad. He was still tense around Leon, but that was to be expected.
"Hey how's Helena doing?"
"She's doing good. She gets better every single day."
"How's it going Trevor? How's your mom doing?" Leon asks as he put breakfast on the table grabbing an extra plate for Trevor.
"She's doing okay. I'm just glad she's trying to be home more."
"You have Helena to thank for that. She essentially told her as nice as possible that she needs to be home."
Trevor shrugged and sat down at the table while Leon went to bring some breakfast up to Helena, giving the two time to exchange words.
"So how are you with all of this?"
Trevor shrugged, "better. I mean there are times that I still want to scream and throw things at Leon, but I know it won't help so I just won't come over on days I feel like that."
Aliya let out an awkward laugh and started eating as Leon came back down, ruffling Aliya's hair as he went to his seat, making her giggle. Leon had just sat down when there was another knock at the door and Aliya rushed to go answer it, only to see Hunnigan.
"Oh, hi Hunnigan," she says, feeling nervous since Hunnigan had implied that they would have to 'put her down' if she got out of control only a few weeks before.
"Hi Aliya. May I come in?"
"Depends. Are you going to suggest that they put me down like a dog?" she asks snarkily, making Hunnigan sigh.
"I guess I deserved that," she says as Aliya stepped to the side and led her into the kitchen.
"Hunnigan, what brings you here?"
"I came on some business and to see how Helena's doing."
"I'm fine," Helena's voice says from the entry way of the kitchen and the group turned to see her holding her stomach and leaning against the wall. They could tell just by looking at her that it took a lot of strength to make it down from the bedroom.
"And she's supposed to be in bed." Leon says, glaring at her as Aliya pulled out another chair and Trevor helped her sit down, albeit uncomfortably.
"Why are you here?" Aliya asks, trying her best not to sound rude as she and Trevor sat back down. She had a feeling that Hunnigan was here to take her away now that the mission was over.
"Okay," Hunnigan starts, "the mission is over, and Leon and Helena don't have to use an alias anymore, but we discovered that someone from C.A.T. Co escaped with some files along with blood and tissue samples." She says, noticing Aliya flinch as she remembered all the tests and experiments that she had to go through.
"What are you saying?" Helena asks, painfully turning to look at her after exchanging looks with Leon and Aliya.
"We can only assume that he's going to try and continue C.A.T. Co work and as people find out about Aliya, she's going to be a target."
"And that means?" Leon asks, almost certain that he knew what Hunnigan was implying but just wanted to hear her say it.
"It means that she's going to stay here and continue to be your problem until she's able to protect herself."
Helena and Leon looked at each other across the table and then over at Aliya, who was smiling, and they both looked back at Hunnigan.
"What?"
Leon shrugged, "she's not a problem if we like having her around."
