Dear Diary: Orphanage Life.

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha!

A/N: This one-shot will be a series of one-shots that go together. Inuyasha, Naraku and other demons/half demons will be slightly out of character in the way as everyone in this story is human, but their mannerisms will be the same.

WARNING!: This one-shot will have rape (it's not very long but I did put where it starts and when it ends, so if you don't want to read it just skip it.) and physical abuse/torture in it.

Dear Diary,

Eeeeh, I am so excited! Tomorrow is my birthday, my 18th birthday to be exact! Tomorrow, I get my mark!

Oh, wait, you're a new diary so you won't know what my old diary knows. I'll fill you in.

Hmm, where do I begin? I guess I could start from the beginning, buckle up diary because it's a long bumpy road. My life is anything but grand.

Well, first things first, hi my name is Kagome Higurashi, nice to meet you!

Next, you've heard stories about werewolves, right? Well, we're sort of like werewolves, we're descendants of them. Like werewolves we age very slowly, well, we age normally for the first eighteen years then after we turn eighteen then we age one year every one hundred years. We, also, have alphas, kings and queens and such, and finally, on our eighteenth birthday we find our lifelong mate. However, unlike werewolves, we don't shapeshift into giant wolves or lycans and that mark that I mentioned is not what you think - werewolves get their marks only by marking their mates, us, we get our marks automatically the morning of our eighteenth birthday whether or not we find our mates and then when we do find our mates they mark us as well as we mark them, so everyone gets two marks.

The marks we get shows up right on the collar bone and comes in a variety of colors and the color of your mark determines which group, or pack, you'll be in. The color will also determine which power you'll have, let me explain.

Green = Earth bender, Blue = water bender, White = air bender, Red = fire bender, Orange = animal communication abilities as well as healing them, Brown = plant like trees, flowers, grass ect., communication abilities as well as they can make plants grow, Purple = mind control/reading abilities, Grey = weather control, Pink = telekinesis abilities, Silver = seer (able to touch a person's object and be able to tell where they are/if they are alive or dead.) and finally, yellow = no power, yup, you heard right - no power and guess whose parents both got yellow marks? If you said mine, then you'd be right. Yellows were outcasted, unwanted, trash to societies eyes. Yellows usually worked as servants, sold as sex slaves or banished from the group. No body cared what happened to Yellows and usually just turned a blind eye if they saw someone mistreating a Yellow.

One day, while Sango and I were playing with the other 'outcast' children, someone murdered our parents in cold blood. We never found out who did it but I was the one who found them, it's a memory that's been burned into my mind forever. With my parents' murder, my sister Sango and I was forced to move into the orphanage - at first it wasn't all that bad, sure we were used as servants having to cook, clean and take care of the children while Sango was only twelve and I was eleven. However, that all changed the day that the orphanage 'mother', yup, that's right - she made Sango and I plus all the children in the orphanage call her mother. It left a sour taste in both Sango's and my mouth but if we refused to call her mother then we'd receive one hell of a beating, so it was just easier to call her mother no matter how much we hated it. Anyway, everything changed the day the orphanage mother's son showed up one day and wanted to take me as his 'chosen mate', I was only thirteen at the time so of course I refused because I wanted to meet and fall in love with my real mate. Day after day, he would come back and try to force me to become his mate and day after day I refused, day after day Sango's and my treatment by 'mother' became worse and worse. She became way pickier about how she wanted things done, she'd go around the orphanage with a white glove on running her hand along the staircase railing, the windowsills, basically everywhere she could run her finger across she did and if it came back dirty then we'd be in a world of trouble. If meals weren't done in a timely manner, or to her satisfaction we'd get beat. If the beds weren't made properly, we'd lose out on our daily portion of cold gruel (the only thing we were allowed to eat). And so on and so on. The punishments never ended, no matter how well we did our job for the day, she always found a reason to beat me - Sango got away those days, she didn't get beaten and for that I'm glad - but I always did, every day without fail.

Sango turned eighteen last year and, not surprisingly, she got the color yellow - it was very rare that one got a different color than their parents, especially if one parent had that same color as the other. However, even though extremely rare, Sango and I both hoped beyond hope that she'd have any other color besides yellow. That day, as I ran my fingertips over her mark, we both cried, cried for lost hope, cried because now, officially, Sango was at outcast, a slave for society to use however way they saw fit.

When Mrs. Ito, the orphanage 'mother', found out she laughed in our faces telling us we'd never be free from the curse of the yellow mark - but luckily, she let Sango stay even though eighteen is when all children leave the orphanage - I don't think I'd be able to survive this place by myself. Then the day came, a few months after Sango turned eighteen, she found her mate, however, he had a silver mark and told her he wouldn't be caught dead being mated to a Yellow - it was very common for Yellows to be rejected, they almost always were, unless another Yellow was their mate or if the mate wasn't a complete jerk (which was almost never) or if the mate just wanted a slave they could punch around and if that was the case, they never marked them. Of course, Mrs. Ito laughed once again in Sango's face as she crumpled to the ground in pain as I tried my best to comfort her through the mate bond being separated. I was so proud as she stood up a few minutes later and accepted the rejection and in turn rejected him as well.

"It's time to get up and get the kids dress and fed." Sango sighed as she closed her own diary.

Kagome looked at the clock, with a sigh she realized that it was five-thirty, they had a little less than an hour to get all the kids up, dressed and fed before the older ones had to go to school.

Well, Diary, I've got to go, talk to you soon! Bye! Love Kagome H.

Kagome closed the thick notebook that she had bought for herself, though Sango and she didn't get paid a lot they still received money for doing chores at the orphanage - a whole dollar every week - it wasn't much but it did allow her to by shampoo and conditioner and razers so she could shave, if she saved, as well as notebooks, pens and such so she could right down her thoughts and feelings.

Kagome sighed as both her and Sango stood up from their shabby cots, that on some places the springs were starting to come out and their pillows were flatter than flat.

"Hmm," Sango sighed, "looks like we should replace our cots soon." She said as she stared at the beds before turning her attention to Kagome. "How much money do you have saved up?"

"About thirty dollars." Kagome answered. "You?"

"Same, and cot mattresses cost about thirty to forty dollars for the cheapest ones." Sango said then sighed. "So in a few months or more we will be able to afford new mattresses and pillows."

Kagome nodded. "Let's go, I'll start on breakfast while you get the kids up and help them get ready."

Sango nodded as they headed out their room and down the stairs before parting ways as Kagome turned towards the kitchen and Sango towards the childrens' rooms.

*X*

As Kagome and Sango ushered the last child out the door and sent her on her way to school before leading the children that were too young for school in the play area in the living room so they could lock the baby gate and get on with morning chores.

"Okay, you start with the kitchen while I start on the rooms and after you're done with the kitchen help me with the rooms then we can go food shopping then-" Sango started listing off before getting interrupted by Mrs. Ito.

"Actually, I need Kagome to go down to the cellar to grab some wine for the King and Queen - they are coming tomorrow so I expect everything to be magnificent and if it isn't, you'll be sorry. Sango, you start on everything in here and Kagome will join you after she fetches the wine." Mrs. Ito instructs before walking away.

"Yes, mother." Kagome and Sango muttered in unison before going about their tasks.

Kagome stood outside the cellar doors really fighting with herself about going in or not, she hated the cellar it always freaked her out - it was so dark and dusty and just the thought of spiders being down there just about made her turn around willing to face whatever punishment Mrs. Ito saw fit to give her rather than the spiders.

Sucking in a deep breath of calming as she pulled the doors open and slowly walked down the stairs, coming to the last step she squinted her eyes as she tried to get her eyes adjusted to the dark space of the basement. Walking further into to darkness, she tried to tell herself that the shiver that ran up her spine leaving her hair standing straight was due to the cool breeze hitting her and not from the thought that something or someone could just jump out and do her in and no one would know.

"Gah, I hate the dark!" Kagome grumbled to herself as a sneeze built its way up in her nose from all the dust that was floating around. Stopping right in from of the wine shelf, she squinted trying to use as much daylight filtering in through the open cellar doors as possible, though, it wasn't very much - she could just barely make out the names and dates of each wine.

Finding one that had what Mrs. Ito would call an appropriate date; Kagome grabbed it before looking for two more bottles with the same date or at least as close as she could find to the date. However, as she was looking what little light that she did have vanished as both doors slammed shut making her let out a shocked shriek and drop the bottle breaking it into a thousand pieces and wine splatter everywhere.

"Hmm, mother won't like it very much that you broke one of her good wine bottles." a smooth ominous voice filled the air around Kagome.

"N-Naraku?" Kagome whispered out as her heart sunk with dread. "W-what are you doing? Let me out."

"Oh, now, see that would be a problem my dear Kagome." Naraku said with his sickly-sweet voice.

"Why?" Kagome tried to keep the shake out of her voice though she knew she wasn't at all successful at it judging by Naraku's slight chuckle.

"Because Kagome," Naraku growled out as he lit a kerosene lamp, that he had brought down with him, momentarily blinding Kagome with its bright light. "You have denied me time and time again what is rightfully mine and I won't be denied again. No, this time, you will be mine whether you like it or not." He snarled as he sat the lamp down on a little table kept down in the cellar as he started making his way over to were Kagome stood slowly taking great pleasure in the frightened look on her face as she backed away from him.

"No, I won't let you!" Kagome yelled out but knowing that she was nowhere near as strong as he was.

"Oh, my dear Kagome." Naraku purred. "But I'm afraid you don't have a choice in the matter, in case you haven't heard, my father died leaving me the rightful alpha of this town."

Kagome gasped, Naraku's father was the only one that kept a balance on her and Sango's mistreatment, though it was still torture, he always made sure that it didn't go overboard - without him both Sango and she would be doomed. "Naraku, please." Kagome begged as she felt her hands start to shake. "Just please, let me go." She said just as her back it the wine shelf.

Naraku smirked as he closed the distance between him and Kagome, he wasn't prepared for the slap across the face that Kagome gave him - her nails scratching his cheek. He stared off to the side in shock, with his eyes wide open as he reached his fingers up to brush along the spot where she had slapped him - pulling his hand back to look at his red fingers.

"You slapped me and made me bleed." Naraku said eerily calmly.

"I...I" Kagome stammered out not totally sure what she was going to say or how she was going to get out of this situation. She really didn't mean to slap him, it was reflex - flight or fight sinking in, and since there was nowhere to take flight, she was forced to pick fight but now she was really regretting that option.

Naraku didn't give her a chance to work out her scattered, terrified, mind as he wrapped a hand around her throat cutting off her air supply. He roughly shoved her back against the wine shelf making more of the bottles drop to the floor, those too, shattered and the contents of the bottles splashed everywhere. With his free hand he lifted it up above his head as what few wine bottles that were left started to float in the air and crash into her, breaking on impact leaving Kagome cut all over her face and body.

Kagome was barely conscious when a memory of both Naraku and his mom having the pink mark, telekinesis.

As Kagome's lips started to turn blue and she was about to lose consciousness, Naraku growled as he threw her on the ground making her let out a cry of pain as the shards of glass bit into the skin of her arms, legs and back. He quickly threw his body weight on hers so she couldn't get away, grabbing her jaw roughly, he took great pleasure as the tears of fear leaked out of her eyes as he forcefully slammed his mouth against hers. His free hand roughly grabbed at her breast making her cry out in pain once again, trying to get free from the monster above her she jerked her knee up connecting with his manhood hard.

Grunting but not lifting his weight off Kagome, Naraku brought his hand up and slapped her making her lip bleed. "You stupid little bitch!" He growled as, to Kagome's horror, he started to unzip and take off his pants. Once his pants were off he made work with getting Kagome's servant dress off though she tried to fight him off she was match for Naraku's strength and before she knew it, she was laying naked on the cold, dirty floor.

*RAPE STARTS!*

Knowing she couldn't do anything she just shut down, tried to block everything that was happening. However, try as she might, she couldn't stop the painful cry as Naraku forced his way into her entrance, breaking her barrier that made her pure - the part of herself that she wanted desperately to save for her real mate, if he so chose to stay with her.

Naraku groaned as he squeezed her hips with bruising force, he started slamming in and out of her - not giving her anytime to adjust to his size. After a few minutes Kagome let out a truly painful scream as Naraku exited her entrance only to shove with as much force as he could into her bottom hole as he continued his bruising thrusts. He racked his nails down her sides leaving angry looking welts that bled.

The whole attack lasted about thirty minutes before he busted his load into her backside. Naraku stood up and readjusted his clothes before walking up the stairs to the cellar door before opening the doors, leaving then closing the doors behind him.

*RAPE ENDS!*

Kagome curled up on her side, bringing her knees to her chest and wrapping her arms around her legs as she buried her face into her knees as she cried with all that she was worth on the dark cold cellar floor.

*X*

"Hmm, why do you have to go?" A naked woman lying on the bed wrapped in sheets moaned as the man she just bedded got up to put his clothes back on.

"We've been over this, Kikyo." The man sighed. "My parents made arrangements with the new alpha of the town next to us and they want to give him a proper congratulatory greeting."

"Yeah, but Inu-baby, why do you have to go?" Kikyo whined. "Can't you just stay here with me?"

"It's Inuyasha, you'd think after three years of knowing me you'd realize that I absolutely hate that fucking nickname you gave me!" Inuyasha corrected her for the ten thousandth time. "And no, I can't just stay with you, as future king I have to know all of my subjects and duties that I have to perform as king, so if you want to stay with me then I suggest you get use to me having a lot of shit to do."

"Don't you love me? If you stay, I will make it worth your while Inu-baby." Kikyo purred as she traced her finger between the valley of her breasts down her stomach around her belly button and back up again.

"Inuyasha." He said through clenched teeth. "And as far as love goes, you and I both agreed on this 'relationship', you be there when I need some and I'd be there when you need some, just until we find our real mates - there's no love. And I've done told you that I cannot stay! Now, drop it, Kikyo.

"What if I don't want to be with my real mate? I could reject him and just be with you, I want you, Inu-baby."

"Well, then you're shit out of luck, because I want my real mate." Inuyasha snapped back.

"Even if she's a Yellow?" Kikyo sneered.

"The color of the mark doesn't make the person." Inuyasha sighed.

"But, Inu-" Kikyo began to whine before getting cut off my Inuyasha's growl-like groan.

"Enough! I said fucking drop it, Kikyo! We are NOT having this conversation right now!" Inuyasha yelled out, fed up with Kikyo's baby behavior.

Kikyo scoffed as she threw the sheets off her and jumped to her feet to angrily put her clothes back on. "You know what, Inuyasha," she sneered at his name, "I don't know why I still mess around with you! Everything is so much more important than me to you! I'm tired of coming in second place to you!" She yelled as she jerked her shirt on and started for the door.

"A where do you think you're going?" Inuyasha grumbled.

"I'm going home! Call me when you take your head out of your ass! And if you don't choose me over your mate then you'd be making a huge mistake!" Kikyo said as she slammed the door behind her.

"Fine, then," Inuyasha growled, "go home!" He grumbled as he finished buttoning his long-sleeve black shirt on and was getting his shoes on when there was a knock on the door. "What?" He yelled out.

A man that was Inuyasha's right hand man with short black hair that he keeps tied at the nape of his neck walked through the door chuckling to himself. "What's got Princess Kikyo's panties in a twist?"

"Keh!" Inuyasha scoffed as he stood up to place his wristwatch on his wrist. "She's pissed because I have to go with mom and dad to the town next to us, she wanted me to stay and got pissed when I said no and stormed out. She'll get over it."

"Ah, and when are you leaving?"

"Within the hour." Inuyasha said as he brushed out his waist long black hair. "And Miroku?"

"Hmm?" Miroku hummed.

"You're coming with me." Inuuyasha said as he disappeared into his bathroom.

"Yes, sir." Miroku mumbled as another knock at the door came. He sighed as he got up to answer the door, it was a guard. "What can I do you for?"

"The king sent me to tell Prince Inuyasha that they are leaving now." The guard answered, Miroku nodded closing the door.

"Who was it?" Inuyasha called out walking out of the bathroom.

"Your father's guard, said it was time to go." Miroku answered.

An hour later Inuyasha, his mom and dad, their guards and Miroku all sat in the limo, which was irritating Inuyasha, he hated long car rides. He grumbled to himself as we watched the sky slowly turn from day to night.

"Dear, won't you stop bouncing your leg and grumbling to yourself, it's not very princely." Inuyasha's mother said gracefully, not looking up from her sewing project she was working on.

"Huh?" Inuyasha grunted looking from the window to his mom then down at the leg that was still bouncing. Scoffing to himself he brought his knee up to his chest and wrapped his arms around his leg to keep it from bouncing. "When will we be there?" He grumbled.

"About noon tomorrow." His mother answered.

"Keh, I hate long car rides, why can't I have the power of teleportation?" Inuyasha grumbled as he looked out the window again.

"Not only is that not a thing, son," Inuyasha's father said, "it's a thing you do not have, we are fire benders - be proud of that."

"Yeah, yeah." Inuyasha muttered.

"And stop that mumbling, if you are going to be king you must talk and act like it!" Inuyasha's father snapped at him.

"Keh." Inuyasha scoffed.

"Just think," Inuyasha's mother gushed changing the topic, "maybe you'll meet your queen while we're there!"

"Mom!" Inuyasha said exasperated.

Inuyasha's dad chuckled at their antics before turning serious again. "There is an alternative motive of traveling here. As you know your mother and I have been going from place to place for a few months now-"

"Yeah, why have you all been traveling so much lately?" Inuyasha asked, interrupting his father.

"Someone has been illegally killing off the Yellows, we've found great numbers of murdered Yellows we have to find out who's doing it." Inuyasha's dad explained.

"And I fit into that how?" Inuyasha asked with an arched eyebrow as he crossed his arms across his chest.

"You and Miroku will be traveling in place of your mom and I for we have more pressing matters to deal with at home."

Inuyasha nodded, liking the fact that he'd be able to leave the stuffy castle walls every now and then. "Okay, so when do we start?" He asked.

"You start now, this is that last trip that your mother and I are taking, you will have to investigate on your own from here on out." Inuyasha's father told him.

"Okay," Inuyasha said with a shrug, "sounds good to me." He said as he looked back out the window.

"There's one more thing." His mother spoke up, placing her sewing project on her lap and meeting her son's gaze as he looked away from the window to look her in the eyes. "You remember those stories I used to tell you as a kid? The one's about the chosen one?" At Inuyasha's nod his mother continued. "Well, those stories are true stories, and its the destiny of the chosen one to defeat the evil that has befallen our world. You must find the chosen one to help you on your journey to defeat the evil."

Inuyasha nodded once again then turned back to look out the window without another word.

*X*

Kagome didn't know how long she had been down in the cellar, but her tears had dried up and now she was just staring sightlessly into the darkness. However, when the cellar door opened, Kagome noticed that the sun had been replaced by the moon. She then noticed that Mrs. Ito was stomping her way down the stairs, but she couldn't bring herself to be scared or even care that she was coming her way - maybe she would kill her, she could only hope to be put out of her misery. In fact, she almost prayed for death at this point.

Mrs. Ito stopped right in front of the still naked Kagome before bending down and grabbing her by the hair to drag her up the cellar stairs.

"Stand up, now!" Mrs. Ito demanded when they were inside; she watched as Kagome struggled but succeeded in standing up.

Kagome stared blankly at Mrs. Ito, watching with no expression as she wrapped the end of a belt around her hand leaving the belt buckle to swing in the air.

"Naraku told me that you went mad, broke all my wine bottles, got naked and rolled around the shards of glass. I didn't believe him at first but going down there to find everything broken and you lying naked on the floor, seems like he was telling the truth. What do you have to say for yourself?" Mrs. Ito asked, then not receiving an answer swung the belt and taking great satisfaction in the painful cry Kagome made and the way she fell to the floor as the belt buckle connected to her face.

Kagome laid on the ground as blood trickled out her mouth and her right eye swelled up, she looked around the room with her left eye when she heard a horrified gasp, she saw a smirking Naraku and a horrified Sango - who was being forced to watch as her younger sister got punished.

"Hmm, I think ten whips would be punishment enough for causing me trouble of having to buy more wine." Mrs. Ito said as she prepared to do the first swing. "Watch and count Sango, if you don't then I'll double it."

Mrs. Ito raised her arm up over her head before swinging down making the belt buckle connect with Kagome's ribs, Kagome cried out while Sango winced and tried to close her eyes and cover her ears.

"Watch and count!" Naraku barked out as he roughly grabbed Sango's jaw making her open her eyes.

"One." Sango counted as tears ran down her cheeks.

Swing after swing, scream after scream tore at Sango's heart as she finally got to ten and the punishment ended Mrs. Ito and Naraku left the room, Sango hurried up grabbing the blanket that was on the couch to cover up Kagome's naked body before helping her to her feet and supporting most of her weight as they walked up the stairs to their room.

Once Sango got Kagome as comfortable as she could be on her bed, she left to put the blanket back on the couch and to grab the first aid kit from the bathroom. Walking back into the bedroom she found Kagome staring blankly at the wall, it was almost like she was shutting down and closing herself off from the world. She knew at that moment that Mrs. Ito and Naraku had broken her, damaged her so badly that she didn't want to be a part of anything anymore - even life. It scared her and as she went to clean the blood and the wound that was on her face, she didn't even flinch.

"Kagome?" Sango whispered with tears in her eyes as she gently cupped her face. "Remember, anywhere you go I go." She said as she sucked in a shaky breath and let it out as a sob as the tears escaped her eyes. "So, if you're ready then I'm ready you just say the word." She said as she wiped at Kagome's tears, she saw something flit across her eyes that told Sango that she wasn't quite ready to stop this fight - but as fast as she saw it, it disappeared leaving a vacant Kagome in its wake. "But, if there's even the slightest chance there's any more life in you, any more fight, please come back to me. If you're still here and willing to fight, don't let them win by taking your light away. Come back to me, please." She laid her forehead against Kagome's and closed her eyes as tears continued to run down her face. "Please come back."

It felt like it took an eternity for Sango but really only took a few minutes for Kagome to fight her way back to life. "Why?" She whispered making Sango jump back and open her eyes.

"Kagome?" Sango whispered.

"Why did they have to do that to me?" Kagome whispered. "Why did he."

Sango wasn't for sure what Naraku did to Kagome, though she had a good idea of what happened going on by the screams she was letting out. She had tried to go and help her, but Mrs. Ito wouldn't let her, no matter how hard she tried.

"I don't know why they are like that, but we can't let them win. Something is coming for us, something good, so we just need to keep fighting because I know it's coming." Sango said as she smoothed Kagome's hair back as she wiped the fresh tears that leaked passed her eyes. "Come on, let's get you dressed." She said as she got up to get Kagome a new outfit to wear.

After Kagome was dressed and situated back into her bed, she curled up into a ball of herself as she cried silent tears. She wasn't sure how long she was crying before having enough of the tears, she sat up and wiped at her eyes as she looked over to Sango's bed seeing that she was asleep. She sighed as she turned on her bedside lamp then she reached under her bed and took out her diary, she turned to lay on her stomach, taking the pen out of the spiral of the notebook she opened it to a blank page.

Dear Diary,

*Sigh* I don't even know where to start, but something terrible has happened to me, something that I can't get out of my mind. I tried shutting down, but that didn't work I could still see what that awful man did to me and the punishment that woman gave to me for what he did. I tried to shut down, but I can't, I don't want to leave Sango behind, I don't want her life to end just because mine did, so I have to keep fighting for her but more so for me.

But it's hard fighting day after day, especially after what happened today, Naraku crossed the line, and I don't know how to uncross it - to make my mind stop thinking about it. He raped me and now all I want to do is to crawl into a dark hole and never come out.

Sango keeps saying that something good is coming right around the corner, but when is it supposed to be here? I keep fighting, I keep pushing to the next day, but I don't know how much fight and push I have left in my body. I can feel my 'want to' being drained out of my body day by day, so please whatever 'good' that Sango says is coming - please let it hurry up and get here because I can't take much more of this torture.

The king and queen are coming tomorrow, maybe they'll be our something good and get us out of here and give us a better life - or maybe they will just put us out of our misery, I'm okay with either option at this point - I just want this nightmare to end.

All I want to do is fall asleep and never wake up, but I can't, I have to keep fighting for Sango.

Please, help me, help me find the strength to keep moving forward - to fall asleep and find the will power to wake up when the sun comes up.

Tomorrow is my birthday, the day I am going to get my mark. Maybe if I get any other color than yellow then maybe I could give Mrs. Ito and Naraku a taste of their own medicine!

Do you think that would be stooping down to their level? Do you think that I would feel better if I got my revenge? Or do you think that once the good comes I should just drop it and let them be? If I let him be, what if they do this to someone else - would I be able to live with myself knowing that I could have done something to stop them but didn't?

This is just so hard! I don't know what to do! Would it make me a bad person if I do seek revenge for what they did to me?

*Sigh* Well Diary, I think I'm going to sleep and see what tomorrow brings us. Until next time, love Kagome H.

*X*

"Kagome." Sango whispered shaking Kagome awake.

"Huh, what time is it?" Kagome muttered.

"Just before midnight, you'll be getting your mark in a couple of minutes!" Sango said excitedly.

Kagome jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom that was closest to them so she could look in the mirror and watch it as it appeared on her flesh.

"It'll burn for a little while as the mark sears onto your skin." Sango warned as they stood in front of the mirror.

Kagome nodded. "This is it Sango, it's time to see if we can ever be free or if we're doomed to a lifelong of servitude."

"Whatever happens, we will get through this together." Sango said as she twined her fingers with Kagome's.

They spent the next several minutes talking about all the possibilities that each color possessed, how each color could ensure their freedom.

After a while Kagome hissed as she clutched her skin right above her collarbone. Sango held her breath as she waited for the mark to appear but got concerned as Kagome cried out in pain.

"Sango, is it supposed to hurt so bad?" Kagome asked breathlessly.

"No." Sango shook her head. "It's only supposed to be a slight burn, nothing more."

After a few minutes, Kagome let out a breath as the burning sensation subsided. "It's done." She said but was too afraid to remove her hand to see what color she had.

"Kagome, are you okay?" Sango asked when she saw the terrified expression on Kagome's face.

"What if its yellow?" Kagome asked with a slight shake of her voice.

"Then we will face it together." Sango said as she put her hand on Kagome's shoulder giving it a slight squeeze before removing her hand and turning back toward the mirror. "It's time, let's see what mark you have."

Kagome nodded as she took a deep calming breath then removed her hand. Seeing her mark she gasped, and her eyes went wide with shock, right there on her collarbone was her mark but the color surprised her because she didn't know what it meant.

"Sango, what's this supposed to mean?" Kagome asked as she stared at the circle on her collarbone that held all of the colors, green, blue, white, red, orange, brown, purple, grey, pink, silver and even yellow.

"I-I don't know, but best keep it hidden for now until we figure it out." Sango told her as she positioned her shirt to cover the mark. "As far as everyone else knows, you got the yellow mark."

"Okay." Kagome nodded right as there was an angry knock at the door.

"Girls! Come out right now! The King and Queen are coming today, and everything has to be perfect!" Mrs. Ito's voice sounded from the outside of the door. "And if it isn't perfect, you'll both get twenty whips from the belt buckle! Now, chop, chop!"

Kagome and Sango both sighed as they left the bathroom to start deep cleaning the living room and the kitchen, Kagome took the kitchen while Sango took the living room. Once they were done with those rooms, it was time for the bathrooms - by the time that was done it was time to get the kids up and make them breakfast.

"So, what color did you get, Kagome?" Mrs. Ito asked snidely.

Kagome's heart thumped in her chest, but she managed to keep her composure on the outside. "Yellow, what other color would I have?"

"Humph, I should have known that someone as worthless as you would have a color as worthless as yellow!" Mrs. Ito laughed. "Well, now that the both of you are of age, I'll be able to sell you and make a hefty profit off the both of you!"

Kagome's and Sango's hearts dropped at the prospect of being sold and separated from each other, they hoped that whoever bought one would buy the other. They both remain silent as they finished breakfast and served the children.

Once the school kids were out the door and on their way to school, Kagome and Sango placed the younger kids in the baby gate in the living room so they could re-clean the kitchen together. After what happened yesterday, they vowed to stay as close as possible to each other.

Once breakfast dishes were done, they got lunch for the Queen and King ready for when they arrived - and once again re-tidied up the kitchen before getting the kids out of the baby gate and letting them outside to play. A few minutes later, a long black limo pulled up and parked right in front of the orphanage.

Kagome and Sango watched as a regal looking couple step out of the limo, the man had long black hair with deep brown eyes he was tall and radiated with power - the woman had long black hair as well, though hers looked like it passed her knees, she, too, had brown eyes, though hers were of a lighter shade than the mans. The woman stood tall and proud as a younger version of the first man stepped out of the limo with another young man that had short black hair that he kept tied at the nape of his neck, his eyes were a greyish color - though Kagome didn't pay the second young man any mind because her eyes were still focused on the first young man that stepped out of the car. Something pulled her to him, but she didn't know what it was, she just needed to be with him.

Mate a voice sounded in her mind, snapping her out of her trance - she looked down with her eyes as big as saucers and her heart going crazy in her chest. She peeked through her eyelashes back toward the young man, though she quickly looked back down to the ground again as she saw that he was staring intently at her.

Mrs. Ito ran out the orphanage house when she noticed the black limo was out front. "Hello, your majesties!" She greeted with a bow. "It's so nice to see you! Thank you for visiting such a small town as ours!"

"It's a pleasure to be here." The Queen breathed out as Mrs. Ito straightened out of her bowed position.

"Girls!" Mrs. Ito snapped her fingers at Kagome and Sango making them jump and look at her with wide eyes. "Go to the store and buy some more wine!"

The girls walked off in the direction of the store as Mrs. Ito ushered the King and Queen and the other two young men inside the orphanage house.

*X*

'Finally,' Inuyasha though as they approached their destination, 'I can get out of this fucking limo.'

The limo came to a stop, the door opened, and everyone got out of the limo and stood in front of a shabby looking orphan house. The moment Inuyasha stepped out, he felt a tug at his soul, he looked around spotting a young girl with her head bowed - her hair covering her face so he couldn't see her. He watched as she snuck a peek at him from under her eyelashes though she looked away quickly and he had to guess that it was because he was staring at her. He was about to tell her to look up and ask for her name when an older woman came running out babbling like an idiot.

The old woman snapped at the girls like they were a couple of mangy dogs making them look at her and the moment that they did Inuyasha's heart dropped at the nasty looking bruise marring the young woman's face. He felt as if he was going to get sick as a thought came to his mind, mate hurt.

Before Inuyasha could say or do anything, the two girls walked off towards the store - he wanted to follow them, but the old hag had motioned for them to go inside for lunch and refreshments.

"What's with the girls that you sent off to the store?" Inuyasha asked trying to seem nonchalant.

"Oh, them? Nothing to them, just a couple of Yellows not worthy of your time." Mrs. Ito answered waving him off.

"Ah," Inuyasha nodded, "what are their names?"

"Uh, the one with the dark brown hair is Sango Higurashi and the one with the long black hair is Kagome Higurashi. They are sisters, Sango is the older one, today is Kagome's birthday." Mrs. Ito answered waving him off once again.

"Are you doing anything to celebrate it?" Miroku was the one who asked that question.

"Um, no, why would I?" Mrs. Ito laughed as if Miroku had told the funniest joke. "She's nothing more than a Yellow, a slave." When Mrs. Ito said that it made the Queen gasp quietly. "Is something the matter, Queen Izayoi? What you don't have any tea yet! Let me go get you some, excuse me!" Mrs. Ito said as she disappeared into the kitchen.

"Are you okay, Izayoi." The King asked.

"How can someone treat anyone like that? It shouldn't matter what color of mark you have, and did you see that bruise on the poor girl's face?" Izayoi asked sadly as tears welled up in her eyes. "Oh, Ryu there must be something we could do to help those girls!"

King Ryu wrapped an arm around Izayoi's shoulders as he sighed. "We'll figure it out before we leave here."

As Izayoi nodded, Mrs. Ito came running out of the kitchen with a tray with a tea kettle and tea glasses on it. She placed the tray on the coffee table just as Kagome and Sango came back in with bags of wine in their hands.

"Kagome!" Mrs. Ito snapped her fingers again making Kagome jump. "Come pour King Ryu and Queen Izayoi and their guests some tea! Sango, go get the wine glasses and pour the wine!"

"I assure you that won't be necessary, we can pour our own tea and wine." The King tried to say but Mrs. Ito waved him off and snapped at Kagome once again.

The Queen sighed as she smiled her thanks to Kagome.

"Do you know anything about the murdered Yellows?" The King asked as he took a sip of the tea.

"Nope, not a thing. Didn't even know they were being murdered, but serves them right - don't you think?" Mrs. Ito asked as Sango came in with a tray of glasses full of wine. Kagome was pouring Inuyasha's glass of tea when he lifted his hand and accidentally brushed his hand against hers making her gasp and spill tea on the table.

"Why you clumsy little bitch!" Mrs. Ito yelled out as she reached under her chair to pull out a belt she kept there, she stood up and was about to swing on Kagome when a manly hand roughly grabbed Mrs. Ito's wrist stopping her.

"You will NOT fucking touch her!" Inuyasha growled.

"B-but, Prince Inuyasha, she needs to be punished for spilling the tea!" Mrs. Ito tried to reason with him.

"The only one here that needs to be punished, is you! The color of someone's mark should not determine what position in life that they hold!" Inuyasha yelled in Mrs. Ito's face.

"Yes, you're right, any other color besides yellow, sir she's just a Yellow, who cares what happens to her?" Mrs. Its stammered out.

The King and Queen wanted to get involved but knew that they needed to back off and let their son be the one who handled this if he ever wanted to be King, he needed to know how to run things. Call this a test, if you will.

Inuyasha let out a growl like sound before letting Mrs. Ito go and stepping back. "We're done here, this girl is coming with us." He said as he grabbed Kagome's upper arm and started walking out the door.

"Wait!" Kagome yelled making Inuyasha stop and look down at her with an arched eyebrow. "My sister! Please can't she come with us, please I can't leave her here by herself!"

Inuyasha looked back at the woman holding the tray of wine looking at both Kagome and him with wide, frightened eyes. "Miroku, would you make sure the young girl gets out without any trouble?" He asked as he walked out the door with Kagome.

Getting in the limo with Kagome, Inuyasha waited for everyone else to join them so they could leave. Once everyone was in the limo and they were driving away from the awful place Inuyasha was able to let out a sigh of relief.
