Please note I want to rewrite this chapter (the concept will stay the same.) to correct things like grammar and lack of minor but important info that I could use in the future but I just wanted to give the community some content to remind people about the story. I literally finished typing this and posted it.
Well here we are the first chapter of the long-awaited series. I'm just playing I know I don't have a fan base as of this moment. If I am being 100%, the thing that kept motivating me to actually not abandon this was because of everybody's comments, I won't let the story go unfinished, whether it's a 6 month, 50k word story or a 3 year, 5-million-word story this will be finished if I have anything to say about it.
To answer your questions:
Will you keep the format as the 'first chapter'?
No but if everybody wants that format I can make it that way. I think normal format would appeal to most readers, so it makes sense to keep it in that format. It's up to you as a reader though, how would you like to read it? If you'd like for me to make 2 separate stories' where I post the same content but in different formats, I will gladly do that for you. Just comment it and I will see it.
Why did it take so long?
I was a college student, so literally an hour after I posted my idea I received four emails regarding new projects and my exam schedule. Once everything was finished and I was supposed to have a week break before my next semester where I'd write the first chapter my college emailed and said "…Due to Covid-19 we are sorry to inform you but your break between semester 3 and 4 has been cancelled. We hope you understand..."
So this was the first time I was actually able to sit down and type. I really am sorry and if I caused any type of anger I hope that you can see it from my perspective and that this cleared some air for you.
Other big factors were, the fact that I came up with another idea for Danny x Paulina so I'm actually stuck between making it one massive fanfiction or separating the two to make the community seem bigger. I still haven't watched the series, and I am actually downloading it right now (don't ask if it's legal or not.) so I am going in blind and if something differs from the main story I will adapt but I don't think it will be too much of a problem. I needed inspiration to separate this from any other Danny x Paulina fanfiction, how will it be different to others? I want to implement what the creator of Danny Phantom said about what/where the Ghost Zone really is, from that I want to put my own spin on it, I do have more ideas of how to make it unique but I can't give all my secrets away at once.
Chapter 0: Pilot
"There is no such thing as a perfect world. In your perfection, peace exists. In mine destruction exists. Perfection is based on perspective. Tell me, who are you to force your world view onto me?"
"I am not trying to force my views onto you, that me no longer exists. Now don't get me mistaken with the typical hero your accustomed to, just because I gave you a chance to leave after I defeated you doesn't mean I won't finish the job. I don't care if I have to stand over your corpse. I am the anonymous protector of this world. I apply justice as I see fit and right now death is looking pretty good on you. Goodbye."
"Wait, no! I accept, I'll leave peacefully. I will never hurt another soul."
"That deal is no longer on the table. You missed your chance to walk away."
"Think about this… You wouldn't want to kill me, I… I can give you valuable information about December 32nd. You're still looking for information about the lost day, right?"
"You're offering up information that I already have. Time to rest in peace. Hell Fire, Frozen Burn."
"Ahhhhh-"
Danny flew home rolling his right shoulder back and forth, it hadn't been a hard fight instead he was just reckless. Taking on blasts after blasts from the now ironically, deceased ghost. He had no doubt in his mind that he could end the battle at a click of his finger but instead he wanted to play with his food today, which ended up being a bad idea since he had taken a hard blow when one of those blasts hit a few explosive containers and the lost day had been brought up by a ghost who had no business discussing that topic.
"Argh, my healing powers can kick in already, this throb is getting annoying. This is kind of my fault but how was I supposed to know that there would be illegal waste there?" Danny spoke out loud to himself.
Finally, being able to see his house, he slowly descended towards his room turning intangible he surveyed the surrounding area. It was much later than he thought, the sun was setting while everybody went about their afternoon as if Amity Park was a normal town. As he was about to fly through his wall, something had caught his attention. His sister was walking with the high school quarterback, Dash Baxter. They had been dating for a couple of months already which had been a surprise to Danny, especially considering how much she hated him but the more he thought about it the more it made sense. Dash had been smooth about his approach. He slid into her DM's asking if she could tutor him once again, she agreed and instead of her going over to his house or vice versa. He would schedule the sessions at fast-food restaurants to not arise to much suspicion from her part while throwing in sneaky conversations discussed as study breaks or conversations they had while he walked her home. After some time, they became good friends and like every cliché movie they ended up at the same party, found each other on the dance floor and crossed the line in some random room, neither one of the two regretted anything the next day and it had been history since then. It was a completely healthy relationship Dash's marks seemed to stay between a B and B+ while Jazz seemed to be more relaxed with certain situations then she would have been in the past.
Danny and Dash didn't automatically become best friends because of Jazz, instead Dash seemed to have let Danny off the leash and instead of him being shoved into a locker they would have small talk in passing. It had taken the A-Listers a while to warm up to the idea of Dash acknowledging Danny, Paulina and Star would still make side comments from time to time about how A-Listers don't associate themselves with peasants, while Kwan would just fade into the background. The rest of the A-Listers hadn't given their opinion, mainly out of fear of being kicked out because they went against Dash or Paulina.
Danny decided that he had been creeping on his sister and Dash a little too long, turning intangible he floated through the wall. Turning back into his human form two rings formed around him causing his hair to fade back into its natural colour while his daily attire reappeared.
'Might as well take a nap, I don't have any school work anyways, maybe I can visit their grave after I train tonight.' Danny thought to himself as he slipped under his sheets and entered his dream zone.
*4-hour time skip*
Finally waking up, the halfa allowed his mind to accept the land of the living before he'd make any movements. 'Just in case I over exert myself in training, I think I should visit the grave site first and then come back home to train on my affinity's. If I have enough time, I could even amp up the difficulty to test myself, let's just hope it doesn't explode this time.' Danny had thought as he started moving to leave his house, grabbing a hoody to throw over his short sleeved white t shirt.
After exiting his house, he was greeted by light snow and he couldn't have been more glad to have taken his hoodie. He decided to rather take a slow walk towards the graveyard then to fly, it suited the night and it kind of felt as if he would be rushing everything if he just flew towards it. So instead he just continued walking, step by step as his mind wondered back to the simple times in life when the only ghosts he fought were in his DND (Dungeons and Dragons) games with Sam and Tucker.
Mid stride he saw Amity Parks 'queen' in front of him, walking in the same direction as him while clutching her bare shoulders. She seemed to have had a strapless crop top on with tight blue skinny jeans on. Danny could overhear her mumbling to herself as she continued walking unaware of his presence.
"Let's just go out on a school night Paulina, nobody will find out she says but she forgot to mention that she would leave me there as soon as she found a cute guy. Oh no, you don't need to charge your phone Paulina, you can just use my charger when we get there but then she forgets her bag at home. Argh I'm so irritated at that girl right now! It's the middle of the night and I have to walk home in snow, if that bitch shows her face at school tomorrow I'm going to kill her with my bare hands." Paulina had started ranting to herself as she continued walking, unaware of her current surroundings.
Danny stayed a decent distance away to make sure that it didn't seem as if he was following her, last thing he wanted was to make her think some creep was following her. After he started falling in love with loving himself, his infatuation for her faded. The only thing left behind was him cringing at every thought of his younger self being too nervous to utter a proper sentence to her while turning his ghost powers on to pants himself. He realised that him simping over her would not cause her to fall for him and ever since then he started noticing much more about the opposite gender, like when females said that they want to be in a relationship it didn't mean they wanted it with just anybody but the biggest lessons he had learnt since he started his "becoming a better me" phase was that nice guys finished last. Every single time, which had been proven in his last two relationships when he got left for the more fun, party every weekend and then cheat on you guy.
He had not complained about it, instead he bottled everything up and took it out in fights. His logic was simple; why show the world your pain when it is the reason you have those scars? What would he gain from complaining about all his situations in a dog eats dog world? So instead of playing everybody he decided to do the more mature thing and control his emotions as much as he possibly could that way he wouldn't get hurt by anybody and he wouldn't hurt anybody else either. The perfect combination in his eyes.
Even with all his effort to stay out of Paulina's range it didn't matter because she ended up turning around and making eye contact with him. Without hesitation Danny broke the eye contact, looking straight passed her as if she didn't even exist to him. Much to his dismay though Paulina's ego would not allow him to just carry on with his night.
"Why are you following me? For the last time I don't want to date you, you loser! Dammit where is my security when I need them, everybody is just a useless irritation today." Paulina said as she stopped in her tracks to look at Danny. When he didn't react to her comments it started to piss her off more. Who was he to not give her the attention she currently wanted.
"Hey answer me, nerd! When I speak, I expect you to listen. Why are you following me? Do you not have a life to live? Am I really the only light to your world? Ha, that's pathetic!" Paulina finished. Chuckling at the thought of somebody being such a weirdo.
Letting out a huge sigh Danny stopped in front of her while dismissing the thought of going ghost in order to drop a building on her. "I am not trying to follow you; We're just heading the same way. That's all it is. Enjoy your night, your royal highness." He finished, adding a little bit of his usual sarcasm while ending the conversation before it could develop into a full on argument.
Paulina wanted to respond but just as quick as he spoke, he left. Which was no surprise to Paulina. Ever since the beginning of High school he had a knack for disappearing and reappearing out of thin air, as if he was a ghost but this time he didn't just fade away, she could see him walking away. She had already taken an "L" by walking home after being tossed aside by Star and there was no way in hell she would let some scrawny nerd disrespect her.
"Fenton! Don't you dare walk away from me!" No answer. "Fenton! You bi…" A sharp pain ran through her back as a random stranger seemed to have charged into her spine causing her to drop her phone and purse as her body met the ground. She let out a scream of pure pain catching Danny's attention, he had to fight every instinct in his body telling him to go ghost as his head wiped backwards in order to see what had just occurred.
To his horror he saw a man towering over her body, wearing a full black suit with a balaclava mask over his face gathering every possible item he could collect from Paulina. She couldn't do much since she was still in pain. Danny had observed the situation enough to realise it was just a standard mugging and nothing ghost related which pleased him, since he could deal with everything in human form.
Running towards the mugger Danny dismissed any possible "damsel in distress" or "knight in shining armour" thought. With all his training it really would be an easy fight and just as he thought it was. Every movement of his current opponent was sloppy, unplanned and he could easily punish him for it.
Danny would dodge one punch and then plant one of his own onto the muggers face, wait for him to recover and restart the whole process. Once again playing with his current enemy as if they were his food. Unknown to him Paulina had recovered from the charge she had taken and was watching the current fight in shock, she would have never guessed that Danny could not just fight but also dominate a fight. ' Since when could he fight? Every movement seems…planned as if he has been doing this for years. What is going on?' Paulina thought as she zoned out while watching the fight. She finally came out of her daze when she saw Danny dangling her purse and phone in front of her face.
"Here take your things, I'll walk you home before you get into any more trouble." Paulina didn't seem too pleased about the unnecessary shot he had taken at her but for once she would let it slide. Deciding to rather hum in agreement and for once in his life even if it was momentarily Paulina saw Danny as an equal. She had also noticed how much he grew compared to her now standing at 6 feet tall, he really had a growth spurt after his first year in high school.
The walk was quiet, awkwardly quiet for Paulina. She had never been in a situation like that before, since she had her own personal security to protect her. They did their job and got paid for it, no thanks was ever needed. Danny saving her was a different story, he could have minded his business like most folks would've done. 'He might have other intentions. As grateful as I am, if he expects a kiss or a date he will have to think twice.'
"Danny, why did you help me out? What exactly is it that you want?" Paulina did not mean for it to sound so harsh but her natural defensive bitchy side was starting to come out as the adrenaline was leaving her body. Her walls were reforming causing her trust issues to kick in while reminding her about the gap in social distance between the two.
"Nothing. I just want to get you home so that I can go on about my night." Danny glanced at her and already knew this was going to be a conversation, she really needed to learn how to let things go.
"What do you possibly need to do at this hour?" Paulina pushed.
"Don't worry about it." Danny defended.
"Are you into sketchy things, huh, is that why you knew how to fight?" Paulina continued.
"Drop it Paulina, it's none of your business…" Danny had started to become irritated, he had gained nothing but pain from saving her.
"Why are you so secretive about everything? Can't you just be like everybody else and follow the norm of society!" Paulina wasn't actually upset at Danny, instead the whole night had taken its toll on her mentally. Danny had just happened to be at the receiving end of her frustration.
"I'm going to the graveyard! You happy now? Huh… Are you glad that you got the so called secretive Danny Fenton to give up some personal information to you? And why the fuck do you even care about my life, after tonight you won't even look me in my eye as an equal. So tell me why the hell do you care about my life!" Danny snapped. He had been holding in his anger towards her for years, the mental games she played and the physical abuse she had caused over the years, frustrated him and tonight was the night he would give her a piece of his mind. Whether she would like to hear it or not.
Before Paulina could react or Danny could continue ranting, they were broken out of their argument when both of them heard somebody clear their throat. As they turned their head they saw Mr Sanchez or better known as Paulina's father. They had been so into the argument that neither one of them noticed they were in front of Paulina's house. Their back and forth shouting had probably woken him up, which was backed up by the fact that his eyes still seemed to have bags underneath them.
"Sorry Papa, I didn't mean to wake you up." Paulina received no reply, instead Mr Sanchez looked at her then to Danny who seemed unfazed by the man's glare, his walls building up again.
'He really has matured since the last time he stood in front of my house asking to take Paulina to the dance.' Mr. Sanchez analysed Danny. "Paulina inside now. We will discuss your punishment in the morning." He hadn't left much room for argument, so Paulina just walked up the stairs to enter her house without throwing a glance at Danny. Showing Danny once again the difference between the two of them. Her manners only showed if you were on her economic or social level.
Turning on his heel to finally get the Sanchez's out of his life once again he was told to stop by Paulina's father.
"Kid, don't leave just yet. I'm not done with you."
'Can these people just leave me alone.' Danny was tempted to leave, just walk on and deal with the consequences at a later stage but he turned around, once again ignoring his instinct to do as he would like. "Yes sir, what is it that you would like?"
"You're the boy that took my little girl to her first high school dance right? You have some nerve showing up to my house at 11 pm shouting your lungs out after the stunt you pulled back then. I should have broken every bone in your body after Paulina came home and said you dumped her." Mr. Sanchez spoke with calmness but it was easy for Danny to tell how raged he was. He was simple speaking softly in order to not cause another scene in front of his house.
"With all due respect sir. Your daughter played me, I am not sure what she told you and I do not expect you to believe me but my side of the story is simple. I had a crush on her, she asked me to a dance, then it came out that she was doing it for a necklace and out of spite. I was just the collateral damage in her game. I cannot blame her though, I was immature and actually believed my feelings were reciprocated." Danny also kept a calm domineer. He had faced life threatening situations, as scary as Mr. Sanchez could come across he had faced worse in his lifetime. Much worse.
"Mmmhmmm. What about tonight, why was she out and why were you shouting at her on my property?" Mr Sanchez seemed like he was more interested in getting the bulk of answers than sticking on one topic.
"I can't say specifically why she was out tonight, sir. I was going about my night and saw her in passing. Somebody tried to mug her, I intervened, offered to walk her home and then we started having a… disagreement. I apologies for waking you up sir." Danny seemed to be anxious to leave as he kept looking back and forth between the road and Mr. Sanchez.
"You helped her? You have my eternal thanks for that. Would you like me to drop you at home? It is getting late and I see you have no car." Mr. Sanchez wanted to help Danny as much as he could right then and there and the only way he could think of was to offer him a ride back home.
"I appreciate the offer sir but I am not heading home. If that is all I'll be on my way. Enjoy the rest of your night Mr. Sanchez and again I apologise for disturbing it." Mr. Sanchez didn't give any respond other than a nod, indicating that he was dismissing Danny and that their conversation was over, allowing him to continue with the rest of his night. Danny faded into the dark night while Mr. Sanchez retreated back into his home, neither one of the two ever turning back to check on the other.
"Paulina, I know you were listening you can come down from the stairs." Mr. Sanchez received no response. "Paulina." He raised his voice slightly but not loud to wake anybody else in the house. To his satisfaction his daughter made her way down the stairs.
"Yes Papa?" Paulina tried putting on an innocent voice to sweeten the punishment she would receive but to her surprise her father didn't mention anything about it.
"That boy mentioned he needed to go somewhere at this hour. Where is he going? And what is this about a mugging he spoke about?"
"Some guy ran into me and tried to steal my purse and phone but Danny took care of him. He mentioned something about going to the graveyard before you came outside, Papa" Paulina kept the information to a minimum, if her father would not ask it she would not answer it. Rather taking the chance of him never finding out about it then exposing herself.
"Before you go to your room, what is his full name? I would like to find a better way to thank him." Mr. Sanchez looked at her before walking up the stairs to head back to his room, while still walking slow enough to hear her answer clearly. "Danny Fenton. His been in my class since middle school." Paulina responded not really sure why her father wanted to go out of his way to thank Danny when he clearly wanted nothing.
"Oh and also, don't think were done talking. Your punishment comes in the morning or afternoon, depending what time me and your mother can discuss this. Goodnight Princess." His statement left no room for argument, not that Paulina would have argued to begin with. Instead she just nodded and proceeded to her bedroom, with her final words being goodnight to her father as well.
'Danny Fenton… That actually explains a lot.' And with those final thoughts Mr. Sanchez climbed into his bed, kissed his wife on the cheek and proceeded to fall back asleep.
It had not been that easy for Paulina to clear her mind. After she plugged her phone into charge she hopped into a shower. Letting her mind run wild. She was irritated at Star, at Danny but mostly herself. She shouldn't have pushed Danny so hard, he saved her from possibly being hurt any further and still offered to walk her home and when he would not accept any type of gift she forced him to give up information after irritating it out of him. She had become like every annoying gossip queen she hated in that moment. On top of that she overheard how much she had hurt him back in the 9th grade. Even though she wouldn't really care about these situations or believe that the reason he was hurt was because he liked her for her, she truly thought he was infatuated with her looks and didn't like her for herself at the time. How could he, he did not even know her, but it was still effecting her because she had gotten played in her last relationship. An older college guy who just wasted her time. She was seeing herself for who she truly was in that moment and to her surprise she did not like her internal view of herself.
Climbing out of the shower she put all her thoughts aside while getting ready for bed. She decided to go to bed much earlier than she usually would. Praying that the next day would be much better than the previous one.
Danny had finally arrived at the graveyard. Entering it, he followed the path as he had done many times before until he arrived to his destination. Standing in front of two grave stones which was surrounded by multiple pictures. He looked up at the sky before looking back down at the stones.
"Hey, sorry it took me so long to get here. Kind of had a run in somewhere else, well y'all probably saw everything anyways… I miss you, the both of you. I really wish both… It's better if I don't finish that sentence, you never know who's listening. I'll try to visit more often, but for now it's goodbye. You may be buried here but I carry you everywhere I go." Just like that Danny left the graveyard, drops of tears staining his eyes as he reminisced on old times. Putting them aside and wiping his eyes he mentally prepared himself for the training he was about to do.
Ladies and gentlemen, the pilot is officially done. The wheels have been set in motion. Now to answer possible questions you may have:
How old is everybody?
Right now they're two years older than post series. Danny and the gang would be 16, Jazz 18 etc. There's a couple reasons for the 2-year skip.
Number 1: so that would be so that I can develop Jazz and Dash's relationship in a more realistic way (not confirming nor denying that they're end-game, they could end up splitting or getting married one day). Now I know what you're thinking "Why did you make Dash so OOC?" The simple answer to that is that is that I you'll have to see at a later stage because that was an impulse decision, meaning I now need to create a whole extra backstory and more content for a new couple.
Number 2: In order to deal with the change in characters' personality, a time skip would be necessary. Yes, change can happen overnight but let's be honest that would feel bland and forced.
Number 3: The legal age for kids to drive in America is 16 years old so it'd make date nights much easier to write if they can drive around.
What is the lost day?
That will come in future chapter (cliché I know). I personally know what I want it to be, but I need to watch the series' first so that I can make the background to it much better. I was actually thinking about giving it away right off the bat but I'm trying to have one of the best (at least top 5 of all time at some point) Danny x Paulina stories and in order to do that I need an audience. In order to do that I need suspense.
Why are there so many holes in the chapter?
Trust me when I say that every hole within this chapter was planned (mostly). From the concept of the lost day to the date of the lost day to his different powers. I have had a couple months to think about what direction this story will go, now I didn't get far but I do have a small idea about some things so just stick with me please everything will be explained.
Also I've created at least 5 different pilot versions of this story so it wasn't an easy thing, my respect for writers has actually sky rocketed so if you're a writer, reading this… You're an amazing human.
When will the next chapter be?
I can't answer that right now. Let me put this into perspective for you, I barely read books in other words NOBODY knows I read fanfiction and they definitely will never know I write. So in order to keep it this way I only get to write when everybody is asleep around 12 a.m. and that's if I do write that night. Another factor is that I am not a natural writer, my vocab sucks, my punctuation is extremely bad etc. etc. This story is purely based on my imagination and the little skills I learnt from high school English lit essays. Lastly I am researching a lot for this fanfic between documentary's in order to understand things or even reading action/romance fanfics to see what they do right and wrong so it is very time consuming, I can't go into too much detail about it without exposing the story's future so I'll leave it there. I also have a social life that I have to maintain, I am also a gamer… not really a good one, I'm more of the squad clown that isn't good but makes jokes I also have other hobbies but you get my point. I do hope you can understand my perspective and support me.
