Hey everyone, just wanted to add a quick AN for you all.
Since we can't exactly upload pictures here on FF (At least not that I'm aware of) I just thought I'd let you know that on Wattpad I did add a description of my OC's as well as some pictures I got off of google that I thought best represented my characters :)
You can look up the story by searching "A Hero's Revenge: MHA FanFic (BakugoxOC/EraserheadxOC/HawksxOC)"
Yeah I know the name is long lol but it was to help let people know who the MC's are in the story :)
But anyway, please enjoy the new chapter !
It had been almost two weeks since Akari had her run in with Toga and Dabi. Almost two weeks of avoiding Hawks, not that it was particularly difficult since he was so busy with meetings with Endeavor, Best Jeanist and the Commission.
But anytime she did happen to run into the pro-hero, she made an excuse to leave, or simply turned and high tailed it out of there. She knew she was being childish, but she was still upset about the way he had handled the situation with Dabi and Toga. He made her feel incompetent which she wasn't.
Yet her insecurities were weighing heavily on her more than usual. Akari had always felt inferior to her sisters because she felt that her quirk wasn't as amazing as theirs. Her quirks best feature was being able to manifest her tattoos and drawings into real life objects. Sure, she could manipulate all types of liquids as well, hence the little trick with her blood that she used with Toga and the water she tried to use to put out the fires, but it was nowhere near as impressive as her sisters'.
Noriko could quite literally create objects with her molecular manipulation using the chemicals in the atmosphere around her. Yaeko could quite literally tear a living organism apart and put it back together, no matter how horrific as it sounded. And in her prime, her older sister was able to do so much more with her quirk. On the other hand, Akari had to bust her ass to make it into the hero course and keep up.
So, the doubt that Hawks had placed in her had Akari take up Yaeko's offer to help her with her endurance training. She had been concerned about whether she would be able to handle the major reconstruction surgeries. It had been a bit of a surprise to Akari, but Yaeko had been frustrated with how long the effects of the drawbacks from her quirk were lasting.
After using her quirk on Akari after the bank robbery incident and then again on Noriko when she had fractured her wrist during training a couple days after, she had been forced to postpone Eraserhead's appointment. Something Yaeko was very pissed about, which led to her being in a foul mood since.
So here she was, in one of the empty training rooms of Hawks' agency, training with Yaeko. This had become their routine for the past week, coming to train during dinner hours so that they had the whole room to themselves. To make up for missing dinner, Yaeko had made a point of going grocery shopping so that they could cook dinner together after their trainings.
It was worth in in the end because her sister had greatly improved in the week they had been working together, not that it came as a surprise. Yaeko always had an affinity when it came to wielding her quirk, which was why she was so frustrated with the lack of control she had from not using it for so long.
The hardest part for Yaeko had been trying to regain her ability to use her quirk on inanimate objects. While her quirk was most efficient on living organisms, she was able to manipulate other organic materials, though she was severely limited.
In all actuality, she could only really manipulate wooden, or wicker, made objects, bamboo being the one she was able to use easiest. Because of that, Akari was grateful she held on to her sister's old hero support weapon; a katana made of bamboo, especially designed by their parents for Yaeko.
For the last two days, the sisters had been training with their support weapons, Yaeko in an effort to up her quirks resistance, and Akari to improve her skills as well as try to design new support items. So far, Yaeko was the only one who had really improved, having gotten the hang of continuously using her quirk for extending periods of time again.
Despite being happy for her sister's improvement, Akari was frustrated with her lack of progress, which was how she ended up being caught off guard during today's training. She gasped when she felt her sisters support weapon wrap around her middle tossing her high in the air before slamming her down hard.
A sickening crack echoed through the training room, making Akari wince slightly. Yaeko gasped, dropping the handle of her katana, which had been manipulated to morph into a whip. Immediately, the part of the whip that had wrapped around Akari's midsection dissolved as the katana took its original shape. She looked up to see that Yaeko's hands were covering her mouth while her eyes were wide with horror and guilt. Her full attention was on Akari's broken leg, bent at an odd angle.
"It's fine, I'm fine!" Akari spoke quickly through gritted teeth, trying to breathe through the pain.
She knew Yaeko probably felt horrible, but it really wasn't a big deal. She would often get hurt when training, and now was no different from those other times. If anything, it was better because now she didn't have to rush off to the hospital.
"Fine?!" Yaeko's voice was a little shrill. "I broke your leg!" Her older sister jerked, almost as if shaken by her own words, right before she lurched forward to land roughly on the ground next to Akari.
"Yeah, during training." Akari breathed, leaning back on her elbows, head tilted back as she fought back the pain.
"Doesn't make me feel any less guilty." Yaeko muttered, carefully wrapping her hands around the area where the break was.
Akari rolled her eyes but stayed quiet to allow her sister to work in peace. It took a few minutes, but eventually she felt her leg shifting as the bones stitched back together. She let out a sigh of relief when Yaeko let go a few minutes after. She looked down to see her leg back in its original position, before turning to her sister, who looked completely unphased.
"Oh, look at you, healed me in no time. And you don't look like one of the zombies from that TV show Noriko loves." Akari teased, poking her sister's cheek.
Yaeko slapped her sister's hand away with a halfhearted glare. "You're annoying."
"But you love me anyway." Akari chirped, moving to stand up. "So now that we had proven your quirk resistance is basically back to your usual level, when are you gonna call Eraserhead for his surgeries?"
Pulling her right knee up to her chest and stretching her other out, Yaeko stayed quiet as she thought about Shouta Aizawa. She had called him the day before his appointment to let him know that they needed to reschedule due to the overuse of her quirk. She had thought he had sounded disappointed, but she couldn't be sure.
The day after, during lunch, Noriko had brought up how she had been surprised to see her teacher show up for class the day of his surgery and how he had been extra grumpy. Yaeko hadn't put much thought into it, simply chalking it up to him being upset that she was wasting his time. She knew he was eager to get back to work, especially with the school year coming up quick.
"I'll send him a schedule appointment notification in the morning. He's in the middle of his lessons and today is Noriko's midterm, I don't want to disrupt." Yaeko said with a sigh after looking at the clock. Eraserhead had Noriko's classes run late, making sure to cover as much material as he could each night.
"Why not just call him? Don't tell me you're still bothered by his stupid comments and judgments?" Akari wasn't stupid; she had known how much it had hurt her sister to learn that a hero she finally looked up to, thought so little of her.
Yaeko had told her about how her meeting with the erasure hero had gone, and then Noriko told them about how he called her a villain when she first met him. It had pissed her off, but Noriko, surprisingly, had been the voice of reason.
"We can't exactly blame anyone for judging us. No one knows the truth; all they know is that you killed a hero and went to prison for it." She muttered; her eyebrows furrowed in frustration. "It'd be easier if they knew the truth, and sometimes I want to shout it so everyone can hear the truth… but then I think about how it's none of their goddamn business."
"You know it's completely up to you if you want them to know or not. But I want you to understand that I don't care what people think of me." Yaeko ruffled her hair affectionately.
Noriko hadn't said anything to that, just slapped her hand away half-heartedly.
"His opinion doesn't matter." Yaeko said, but even to her own ears she sounded unconvincing.
"Then chin up, Yaya. You're a hell of a doctor and you're doing this for the sake of humanity. Eraserhead is the best weapon we have against Shigaraki and the Liberation Army. And he knows you're his best chance to get back to hero work."
Biting her lip, Yaeko nodded slowly before reaching over and grabbing her phone. Akari chuckled as she sprawled out on the ground, already knowing what Yaeko was going to do. She opened her email app and sent an appointment request for Eraserhead to come in the next day.
Yaeko was hoping he'd accept, so she could get this over with already. He had made it clear that he didn't feel comfortable with her being his doctor, so she wanted to end this as soon as possible to spare both of them the unease of being in each other's presence.
Yet, part of her was sadden by the fact that after his surgery she probably wouldn't see him again. He would most likely put in a request for a different physician to take over any of his follow ups if he even went to them. The other part of her was relieved by the thought, if only to spare her the pain from his opinions of her.
"How much longer are you two planning on skipping dinner?" Hawks voice rang out through the room startling both sisters.
Yaeko turned her head in time to see her sister shoot up from her spot on the ground. Raising an eyebrow at her, she also stood but at a much slower pace. Her sister had been acting weird the past two weeks, but she didn't say anything, knowing that Akari would talk to her when she felt ready to.
Seeing how anxious she was to be around Hawks just confirmed that the problem was with him. Akari was usually a very confident woman, so to see her fidgeting with the hem of her workout shorts, her head turned away to look at a rack of weights and biting her lip anxiously, made Yaeko frown.
The fact that Hawks was the reason for her weird behavior, had Yaeko narrowing her eyes at the blonde man standing a few feet away from them. It was clear he had just come back from patrol since he was in his hero suit, minus his signature beige coat. He looked tired, the bags under his eyes a stark contrast to his lighter complexion. His facial hair was also slightly more grown out than she was used to seeing, as was his hair. The only reason his hair was somewhat tame was because of his visor that was pushed up on top of his head.
"We don't skip dinner, Hawks-san, we just eat a little later than the rest." Yaeko answered smoothly once she realized that Akari wasn't going to speak.
Hawks raised an eyebrow at them, but the unamused expression on his face didn't change. His eyes were partially hidden by the lazy way his eyelids dropped and his mouth was downturned the slightest bit.
"Cook said he hadn't seen either of you attend dinner in over a week." Hawks drawled, tucking his hands into the pockets of his baggy pants.
Despite being extremely busy the last week with trying to track down Dabi and Toga, he knew something was wrong. Akari had been avoiding him since the day she had her run in with Toga and almost faced off with Dabi. She had been quiet the entire ride back to the agency after they had found her but shrugged it off as exhaustion.
She had overused her quirk, having tried to put out Dabi's flames by herself, which wasn't easy. Without her help, his little wind trick wouldn't have worked, since the last time they had to put out the blue flames it had taken three heroes with water quirks and himself.
But when they got back and it was time for her to brief them on what had happened, she barely looked at any of them. She also only responded between bites of food to questions they asked, and her answers were short and clipped. When Endeavor made a comment about how reckless she had been, her eyes connected with his and had darkened to a deep blue.
"I was reckless for doing what any hero would have done in my position?"
The coldness in her voice had made all three pros shiver, tension rising between them and her.
"We usually lose track of time when we train, so we cook dinner for ourselves." Yaeko crossed her arms over her chest.
Her dark eyes were studying Hawks with such an intense look, he began to feel uncomfortable. Now more than ever he knew something was wrong between Akari and him. He cleared his throat, preparing himself to ask for a moment alone with Akari, but was interrupted by her finally speaking up.
"I think-" Akari began but was interrupted by Yaeko's phone going off in her hand.
Taken off guard, Yaeko glanced down to see that Eraserhead had accepted the appointment for tomorrow. Almost immediately after she finished reading the confirmation message, a call came through.
Her heart dropped when she read the caller ID. Yokumiru hadn't reached out to her since the first day to see how they were settling in, so it made her uneasy that he was calling her. Especially because it was almost 9pm.
She hesitated for a second, before she let out a deep sigh. As much as she didn't want to take the phone call, she knew she had no choice. Plus, it gave her a good excuse to leave the awkward atmosphere that had filled the training room. It seemed like a good enough time to make Akari deal with whatever was going on between Hawks and her.
"I have to take this." She muttered, her finger sliding across the screen to answer the call as she grabbed her water bottle on her way out of the training room.
"Wait!" Akari's eyes widened, taking a step to follow her sister, but was stopped when Hawks moved to block her.
"Not so fast Imai." Hawks murmured, looking down at her, his hands still in the pockets of his pants to stop himself to reaching out to touch her.
"What is it Hawks-san?" She took a couple steps back to gain some space, but he moved with her.
"You've been avoiding me." He didn't beat round the bush, wanting to get straight to the point.
"You've been busy." She countered, making him frown.
"You've literally ran out of the room whenever you saw me."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"You've even asked to switch patrolling schedules to avoid going on patrol with me." He was starting to lose his patience.
"Why would you want to go on patrol with someone whose capabilities you doubt?" She countered with a glare, finally looking at him.
"What are you talking about?" He looked baffled.
"You doubt my capabilities as a hero, as if I'm unable to handle myself in dangerous situations." She snapped, taking a step forward. She fully felt as all the emotions she had been suppressing finally let loose, and there was nothing she could do to stop them. "I didn't go through hero training for years, working on my quirk every day to make it stronger, just for Japan's number 2 hero to belittle me the minute I faced a dangerous villain. Nor did I do all of that for that same hero to take me into his agency out of pity because of my family's situation!"
"When the hell did I belittle you?! I have never doubted your abilities as a hero! For fucks sake, Imai, I watched you take down a villain almost four times your size!" He practically shouted back, feeling a little pissed by her accusations.
"Then why the hell did you treat me like some invalid because I ran into Toga and almost Dabi?! And before that you couldn't stop calling me to make sure I made it back to the agency without any problems! Like did you believe I wouldn't be able to handle myself if I ran into the most wanted villains in all of Japan? Or is it that you have so little trust in me that you'd think I'd run off at the first chance I got?!" She snarled, stepping even closer to him, not at all aware of how little space was left between them.
Hawks' mouth dropped open in disbelief at what he was hearing. Akari really thought he didn't trust her; to protect herself or to not go behind their backs. He was speechless for a moment, just staring at Akari with wide eyes while he tried to process everything she said.
Thinking back to the day everything happened, he remembered how much he hovered around her. But it hadn't been because he didn't trust her, it was because he was worried. It was crazy to admit that he had been so concerned about a woman he barely knew, but he also knew that she wasn't just any woman.
She was a lot like him, so much it was a little scary to him. Even during the past week that she was avoiding him like the plague, he was able to observe her from afar. She was always smiling, her natural personality being playful, but it was to hide just how perceptive she was.
While her eyes always shun with that playful spark of hers, there was also this light in her eyes that gave away just how smart she was. She was cunning, and it was reflected in her abilities, having taken down multiple small-time criminals in the past two weeks with minimal collateral damage.
She was quickly becoming popular amongst the community, with only a very small percentage still wary of her. Most of the mixed feelings were due to the more closed-minded people who looked down at her because of the ink on her skin. A lot of those feelings were vocalized in the news, specifically reflecting on Hawks' Agency for taking her on.
But Akari Imai was loyal to a fault, defending him even though things between them were clearly not okay. During one of the occasions when the paparazzi ambushed her after an arrest. She delivered a few cutting remarks about the people who were so quick to judge the agency of the number 2 hero for taking in a hero they saw had great potential. She also reminded them that Hawks had sacrificed himself selfishly to infiltrate in a villain organization for the sake of trying to protect society.
Not to mention her loyalty to her own family. She follows her oldest sister blindly, believing that whatever she decided to do was for the good of their family.
It was a lot like how Hawks was, he hid his true feelings behind his playful smirk and usual mischief. But it was to hide how lonely he felt. He was raised and trained by the HPSC since he was very young. His whole life he believed that whatever they decided and ordered him to do, was for the good of society. He never questioned his orders, and sacrificed himself for the good of Japan, and never did he regret that.
His only greatest regret was not being able to save Bubaigawara and then having to kill him. Hawks had truly considered the man to be a good friend, a good person, just caught up in a shitty situation.
Meanwhile, Akari stood there, her chest heaving as she waited for Hawks to respond. But the more time passed and all he did was stare at her, the more irritated she became. Finally having enough, she scoffed, brushing past him to leave the training room.
"Wait!" Hawks jumped, moving quick to grab her arm.
"Let go of me Hawks or I swear to everything, I'm dropping you." She hissed as she tried to yank her arm out of his strong hold.
"Dammit Akari, stop being so stubborn and wait for a second!"
She froze when he slipped and called her by her first name, but he didn't seem to notice. He took advantage of the fact that she stopped fighting back to respond to the accusations she threw at him. Adjusting his hold on her, he pulled her back towards him so they were standing face to face with each other, the smallest of spaces between them.
It was only then that Hawks noticed her attire. She was in short baby blue training shorts and a matching sports bra that was peeking out from under a loose, sleeveless black workout shirt. He swallowed hard, forcing his eyes to look back up at into her eyes. He lowered his hands from her arms to rest on her hips, pulling her even closer.
"I never meant to make you feel like you were incapable of protecting yourself or others. I know you're an amazing hero, because I've seen you work hard every day since you got here. Hell, day one you took down a man pumped with quirk enhancers. I only hovered so much because I was worried about you, not because I don't think you aren't strong enough, but because I don't want anything bad to happen to you."
Her mouth parted open in surprise at his confession, not having expected such honesty from him. And he was being honest, she could see it in the slight desperation in his eyes as they searched her own and the way he spoke so fast almost as if he was afraid he wouldn't be able to get it all out in time.
"Worried about me? Why? If you saw how capable I was?" She sputtered out, confused even as her heart started beating so fast, she was thought she was having a heart attack.
Her hand came up to rub the spot where her chest was starting to feel tight. Hawks brought his hand up to cover her own, feeling how crazy her heart was beating.
"Because Yokumiru expressed how he was afraid of what would happen if the wrong people found out you were back in Japan. That was why they made it mandatory you three always be escorted whenever you went out." Hawks sighed, his free hand coming up to rub the back of his head. "And the whole situation with Dabi and Toga… I almost went crazy when I heard you call Toga's name, and I couldn't help but think about the worst-case scenario. Dabi has killed over 30 people, mercilessly. And he hates heroes… I couldn't even begin to think about what he would do to you especially if he knew you worked for me. He's out for my blood just as much as he's after Endeavor."
Akari was silent for a moment, thinking carefully about what she was about to say next. "I understand where you're coming from Hawks, and I'm thankful that you care so much. But I'm a hero; I will always be put in dangerous situations because that's part of my job. If you trust me, then you need to trust that I can handle myself and not treat me like I'm made of glass. I am not weak or fragile. I can handle my own." She spoke softly, the look in her eyes was hard and determined.
"I know. And I'm not sorry that I worry about you… but I am sorry if I made you feel as if I think so little of you. That is not the case, I know you're strong and will make the top 20 in no time." He smiled charmingly at her, hoping to lighten the mood.
It worked, because her beautiful laugh echoed through the room, her eyes sparkling with that brightness he had come to admire from her. It was the same brightness that didn't hide anything, she was freely laughing without any worries.
"Who knows, boss man, maybe I'll be taking that number 2 spot from you soon." She teased, turning to leave the training room.
His eyes couldn't help but trail over her curvy body, appreciating how her workout clothes accentuated her as she walked away from him. He was entranced by the gentle sway of her hips, enjoying the way her shorts clung to her.
"I'd like to see you try." He croaked out, his voice hoarse from how dry it became.
"See you tomorrow, we have an early patrol schedule, right?" She asked with a smile on her face, looking over her shoulder to look at him.
Her breath caught in her throat at the look in his eyes. They had deepened to a dark golden color, with what looked like desire swirling in them. His eyes were half lidded, trailing over her body making her feel warm all over.
"Yeah, so long as you don't switch patrol shifts to avoid me." He muttered, his eyes finally connecting with hers again.
She smiled softly, but didn't say anything, turning before he could see the light blush on her face. She waved at him from over her shoulder as she slipped out of the room, waiting until the door closed behind her to let out the breath she had been holding in.
What the hell am I getting myself into, was all she could think about as she decided to take the stairs up to the apartment.
